Chapter 4 - Trapped
Leo's portal opens just out of sight of the old, abandoned gas station, and the team jumps out. Right away, they split up into two groups. Raph leads Donatello and Casey in one direction. Leonardo leads with Michelangelo and April in the other. They go around the block, up and down the buildings and through the alleys. They want to ensure there are no signs of betrayal from the E.P.F.
They meet up near the entrance at almost the same time. Still, on high alert, each of them scans the area wearily. Then, finally, movement captures Leonardo's attention, and he spots a small camera rotating in their direction.
"Do you think they know we are here?" Raphael asks.
"Oh, I'm sure they do now," Leo responds, pointing with his sword.
Everyone follows Leo's direction and sees the camera scanning at each of them.
"So, now what?" April asks.
To show they have no intention to harm, Leonardo, swings his swords over to his backside and slides them through the sheathes.
He faces the camera and says, "We got your message. How do you want to do this?"
A moment passes before a door opens.
"Here we go," Donnie says as a passing comment.
"Right, stay on high alert, team. We don't want to be caught off guard." Leo warns.
"Aye, aye, captain," Mikey responds.
One by one, the team enters the building. Once everyone is inside, the door closes, and an elevator, masked as an old display fridge, slides open.
"Well, that's convenient." Raph thinks out loud.
"Yes, but what concerns me is that there is no escort," Leo adds.
Donnie scans the area on his gauntlet tech. The screen displays different coloured dots in various locations below ground.
"It shows they are waiting for us at the elevator next level down. I also see where they are keeping the imprisoned yokai and mutants." The intelligent turtle notes.
"All right," Leonardo nods, appreciating his brother's info. "Let's push forward – still, keep your guard up, however. Something seems a little off."
"Right," everyone responds as they follow their leader into the elevator.
The moment the elevator stops and the doors open, five agents greet them. Everything seems normal, nothing suspicious, yet.
"Turtles, welcome." One of the agents says. "Follow us; our bro-commander is looking forward to meeting you."
Hearing the subtle correction from the word 'bro' to 'commander' has Casey raising his eyebrow. The boy looks up at Raph and notices a twitch in his eye, almost like he sensed something ominous about this situation.
The two glance at each other with concern. However, seeing Leo continue with the others, the two hold their tongues, hoping they may have been hearing things.
Two doors open, and the agents lead the team through a corridor. Eventually, they walk through the section where the prisoners are still housed.
The first thing Leo and the others notice is the fear on their faces. Some of them look like they want to scream out, but they are kept silent for some reason. Even Repo's cat is so scared that she is curled up to her owner, visibly shivering.
"Watch out, friends; it's a trap!" Todd finally shouts, unable to keep quiet, knowing their danger.
This started a loud uproar from the other prisoners. Todd's puppies start yipping while some prisoners shout at Todd for saying anything. At the same time, others joined in warning their friends of the situation.
At one point, the word Kraang was uttered. This shakes up the turtles, and they quickly draw out their weapons.
Black spikey vines and oozing tentacles with eyes suddenly appear from above each cell room. Leonardo realizes quickly that the prisoners could instantly be killed. Some may have been his enemies, but Leo only cared about their safety.
With one swing of his swords, he portals the prisoners out before they are all skewered. He then turns to his team and shouts.
"Guys, we are getting – "
Before Leonardo can finish his sentence and portal his team out, the 'agents' reveal their Kraangified forms and start attacking. Unfortunately, this has the red-eared slider on the defence instead of getting everyone to safety.
"Leo, we could use a portal about now," Raph says.
"I'm working on it," The leader in blue responded, fending off some slimy mutants.
Donatello creates weapons from his purple mystic tech that extends across his bow and starts shooting mystic bullets at some of the Kraang zombies, knocking them off their feet.
Michelangelo whips out his nunchucks, and with his orange mystic flame, he whips around a few other tentacles reaching down from the ducts.
Raphael uses his red mystic power to strengthen his fists and punches the remaining Kraang zombies and other tentacles threatening his family.
Casey and April stay back-to-back as they fight off the puffy pink tentacles reaching out for them.
"Leo, things are getting super tight in here," April warns, realizing the hallway is getting smaller by the second with Kraang goo.
Finally, Leonardo has his hands free and prepares to create a portal.
"Okay, here we are, outta here!"
However, before he can swing his swords, a black snakelike vine sneaks up behind him. The alive entity wraps around Leonardo's ankle and is instantly dragged down the hall. It whips him up against the wall as the turtle is thrown around the corner – towards the lab. One of Leonardo's swords is left behind as a result.
"LEO!" Everyone shouts, realizing the situation is now worse.
Before they can chase after their leader, Kraang Two drops down from her hiding spot with a psychotic cackle. Then, showing extreme intimidation, the female Kraang raises two sharp octopus-like limbs – ready to stab her victims.
"I've waited a long time for this," she chuckles.
"Oh, man, who let her loose?" April asks.
The teen girl bends and slides out of the way of Kraang Two's stab attack. This is quickly becoming a horrible situation and, without a doubt, planned.
The zombies rise again to resume their attack on the Turtles and Casey while the crazy Kraang lady focuses her attacks on April.
"Don't think for an instant I've forgotten what you've done to my eye. I shall enjoy tearing you apart piece by piece." The Kraang cackled with each vicious strike of her sharp limbs.
"You know, you really need a hobby." April comments, defending herself the best she can.
One careless step has April tripping over a Kraang vine. This leaves her open for the demonic alien to bounce.
Good fortune happens, though, as Casey knocks down his opponent and turns to leap in between April and the Kraang in the nick of time.
Even through his mask, one can tell his hatred of these alien overlords. They've taken the family he knew from his timeline and are attempting it again in this one. He vows internally that he won't let them succeed. Using his hockey stick/chainsaw, Casey can keep the Kraang distracted enough for April to get back up on her feet.
"Thanks, Cas." She says, acknowledging his heroic act.
Casey doesn't respond other than giving her a nod.
April lights up her mystic bat with a green flaming glow and swings it at the Kraang, knocking her back.
The two teens glance at each other before raising their weapons and charging at the Kraang together.
Donnie jumps back before a Kraang spikey vine can strike him. He quickly spins his bow and creates a shield from another potential hit. A rattling sound catches his attention, and he looks over his shoulder.
Leonardo's sword starts to shake and spark. This informs the smart turtle that his brother is about to portal back.
However, when it suddenly stopped moving, Donatello raised his thick brow in concern.
What happened? He thought to himself.
OoOoOoOoOoOo
Meanwhile…
Leonardo rams his side up against the impenetrable barrier. No surprise, it didn't budge. He growls in frustration at how dumb he must be if he'd thought that'd work.
The turtle then glanced down at his sword and realized the other one was still in the hall with his family.
"You think this door will stop me from getting back into that fight?" Leonardo asks out loud – not expecting a response.
He starts to focus on the energy of his other sword. Leo raises his arm as if he is about to grab it, and in doing so, his strips start glowing. As blue sparks snap and crackle over Leonardo's body and weapon, a black vine strikes him from behind. This distracts him enough so another can swing down and snag his sword, hurdling it a few feet away.
Before Leonardo can leap for his weapon, he hears heavy metallic footsteps echo through the chamber. This causes Leo to panic. He recognizes this sound and dreads that what he fears is here.
"No, it can't be." He mutters while trying to back away, knowing there isn't anywhere to go.
"Oh, but it is," Kraang One chuckles as he comes into view.
The red eye on the mech's head shines down with an intimidating glow. Being in the tall mech suit gives the Kraang an advantage as he sneers down at the young turtle. He grins at the sight of him shivering in fear.
"You are the tricky one," the monster recollects during their first fight and last. "I still have a bone to pick with you."
Kraang One spots the sword by his foot, and with one big step, he stomps hard – crushing the blade into several pieces. The handle, though bent in some areas, is still intact.
"That should take care of your sneaky abilities to zap around."
Leonardo quickly looks around for a quick escape or perhaps a makeshift weapon he can use as he finds a way to break free. However, there seems to be little help from anything he sees.
"My plans have been delayed long enough. We must rebuild before raising our army for world domination. But first, I wish to finish what I've started with you, back in the prison dimension."
The Kraang steps closer to the petrified turtle.
"There will be no portals to rescue you this time." He says with a toothy grin.
