The Institute - Prologue
Larissa groaned as she woke up. She blinked rapidly as the room swam around her. What happened? She thought. Where am I? She glanced around the room as her mind swirled, trying to recount what had happened before she had passed out. The last thing she could remember was government officials visiting her home, accusing her of being a mutant. She had denied it, of course, she had no powers. But then suddenly she disappeared from sight when they went to grab her anyways. She didn't know how she had done it, but it only lasted a few seconds before she came back into view. That was the last thing she could remember. She sat up in the bed she was in, feeling more steady. She glanced down and saw that she was dressed in black sweatpants and a black t-shirt. She never wore sweats and imagined someone must have changed her when arrived at….wherever she was. Before she could think to stand, the door to the room opened and a man in a lab coat stepped into the dimly lit room. He reached for the light switch, brightening up the room.
"Ah, Larissa Zane, so glad to see you're awake," the man greeted with an eerie smile. "My name is Dr. Burke and I'm one of the lead scientists in this facility."
Larissa's eyes narrowed on the man as she processed what she said. She remembered the government official saying something about taking her to an institute, but why was she knocked out?
"I must say, from what I've heard your powers are quite interesting, I look forward to studying them more extensively in the future, but for now I'll let you rest, you must be tired." Dr. Burke said as he approached the bed. "Oh, and do refrain from using your powers here unless explicitly instructed to, as that lovely bracelet you're wearing will give you quite a shock if you do."
Larissa glanced down at her wrists and saw a metal bracelet on her left arm. She tried to remove it, but it was far too tight.
"What is this place?" Larissa asked quietly.
The man smirked, as if pleased to share the answer. "This is the Perth Institute, for young mutants such as yourself, here we will get to the root cause of this x-gene and, well, quite frankly, how to fix you. Right now you're in observation, where you will remain until I decide you're ready for your questioning, from there we'll decide what to do with you."
"You can't just take me from my family!" Larisa shouted as she stood.
"Oh, Miss Zane, we already have," the man said with a sickly-sweet grin. "But not to worry! If you cooperate soon we'll have you cured and sent home. Won't that be nice, hmm?"
Larissa's jaw dropped at this, how could he do something like this? She was only fourteen for crying out loud! Before she could even respond, the man left and the door closed behind him. Larissa rushed to the door and reached for the handle, but there was none there. She banged on the door again and again, but of course nobody came to let her out. It was like he said, she was stuck here till they found a cure. Or until she found a way out.
The Institute - Submission Info
Hello and welcome to my SYOC! In this fic teenaged mutants are removed from their homes after mass government testing of DNA in high schools and sent to government facilities in which they look for a cure for the X-gene awakening.
I'm looking for a variety of characters here, obviously teenaged mutants, scientists, guards, and maybe even teachers (even though they're captive, they would still get an education).
There will be different forms depending on what you'd like to submit, but to ensure I'm only getting good quality characters I'd like to start off with a character proposal form.
Some ground rules for submitting - nobody's perfect, not even your character. I'm looking for a diverse cast both in terms of personality and appearance and powers.
You can recycle powers from X-Men, I don't mind.
And I am looking for a sibling for my OC, Larissa Zane - 14. If you're interested in making them please PM me.
You can submit up to 2-3 characters.
