Larissa was unsure of how long she had been trapped in the white, windowless room. Which was empty save for the bed, and an attached bathroom. It felt like she had been in there for a week, but she was sure it hadn't been that long. Her demands to be released had been ignored for the most part, and other than the occasional guard dressed in white who brought her food she had no contact with anyone else. She wanted out, she could feel herself growing restless, once the tiredness had worn out. She was currently pacing back and forth while biting her thumb. Suddenly, the door opened and the brown haired scientist she knew as Dr. Burke stepped inside of the room, leaving the door open. Larissa wanted to run, but she suspected that guards were waiting just outside should anything go wrong.
"Sit." Came the simple command from Dr. Burke as he pointed at the bed. In his hand he held onto a clipboard.
Larissa narrowed her eyes on him, why should she listen to him? He was the one who ordered that she be kidnapped from her home.
Dr. Burke smiled, as if amused. "That is unless you'd like to remain in observation? Your sister's already cooperated and has been released to general population…"
Larissa's eyes widened at this. "My sister's here?" She questioned in disbelief, but how? Her older sister didn't have powers. But then again, Larissa didn't think that she had any until…well she wasn't sure how long ago.
"She is, so if you'd like to see her, I suggest you sit down and do as you're told," Dr. Burke said, a hint of annoyance in his tone, then looked at her expectantly. When she didn't move he raised an eyebrow. "I'm waiting."
"How do I know you're not lying?" Larissa demanded, folding her arms across her chest. She wished she had of known about her powers sooner, maybe then she could have been able to fight, to get away.
"This is your sister, Miss Seraphina Zane, correct?" Dr. Burke asked, as he showed her a picture of a girl with waist-length chestnut brown hair and light brown eyes.
Larissa glowered at him, but reluctantly sat on the bed, bringing her knees up to her chest. She felt powerless against him, even if she knew how to use her powers, the bracelet on her wrist made her completely vulnerable.
"Atta girl!" Dr. Burke chimed. "Now, let's get started, shall we?" He said cheerfully as he pulled a pen out of his lab coat pocket. "So, Larissa Zane, tell me, when did your powers awaken?"
"When I was kidnapped," Larissa mumbled.
"So, three days ago." Dr. Burke muttered to himself as he scribbled that down. "Does your family have a history of odd abilities? Anyone double jointed, high intellect? Anything of the sort?"
Larissa shrugged and tucked her blonde hair behind her ear. How would she know? Her parents were too busy working to truly take care of herself and her sister, and they were mainly left to their own devices.
"Were you aware that your sister had powers prior to your arrival here?" Dr. Burke continued to press, either unaware or unconcerned that Larissa did not want to cooperate.
Larissa shook her head.
"Really?" Dr. Burke mused. "So, there were no signs? No changes in her behaviour or mood?"
"If you want to know about my sister, ask her," Larissa ground out with a glare. "When can I see her?"
Dr. Burke chuckled. "Ah, you still seem to not understand how things work around here, and here I thought letting you stew would do the trick. Your questioning is mandatory, seeing your sister is a privilege. I would choose your next words wisely."
Larissa scowled and looked away as she wrapped her arms around her legs and rested her head on her knees. I just wanna go home, she thought.
"Much better." Dr. Burke commented with a grin. He continued to question the fourteen-year-old girl in front of him, who gave minimal answers.
"And to wrap things up, do you have any medical conditions or allergies we should be aware of?" Dr. Burke questioned.
Larissa shook her head.
"Very well then." Dr. Burke said as he clicked his pen and placed it back in his pocket.
"When do I get to see my sister?" Larissa demanded.
"Well, let's see Larissa, you've been entirely unhelpful during our brief encounter, normally this takes much longer, but since you don't want to cooperate, I see no reason why I should help you see your sister," Dr. Burke said simply. "So, unless you give me something I can work with, you will not be seeing your sister, let alone leaving this room for the foreseeable future."
Larissa sighed. "I don't know the answers!" she exclaimed frustrated. "I didn't even know I had powers until your people kidnapped me!"
"Let's try this, then." Dr. Burke said as he approached the girl. He dropped his clipboard on the foot of her bed. "I am going to deactivate your bracelet, and you are going to demonstrate your powers for me. Don't even think of leaving, we have your sister, and well, we know where your parents live."
"But…I…I don't know how to use my powers…" Larissa trailed off quietly.
"Then figure it out!" The scientist snapped. "Hand, now."
Larissa bit her lip as she extended her hand towards him. He grabbed her wrist in a tight grip and pressed a few buttons on her bracelet.
Larissa squeezed her eyes shut, taking a deep breath. She willed herself to turn invisible, and a few moments later, saw the scowl on Dr. Burke's face was replaced with a satisfied smirk.
"That's enough," Dr. Burke instructed.
Larissa blinked and soon Dr. Burke snatched her wrist and pressed a few buttons on her bracelet.
"From here on out, I would appreciate it if you didn't lie to me," Dr. Burke warned, tightening his grip on her wrist. "You're clearly capable of figuring out how to use your powers, you will explore them more in the lab."
"Let go!" Larissa whined as she tried to tug her wrist free, suddenly it slipped through Dr. Burke's hand and a shock went through her body. Larissa flinched and yelped in pain. Dr. Burke grinned.
"My, my, it seems you're more powerful than you realised, and your powers seem to respond to threats, you might want to work on that," Dr. Burke mused. "That will be all for now."
"Wait!" Larissa called as he started to walk away. "What about my sister? You said I could see her!"
Dr. Burke chuckled. "When did I say that?" he taunted as he picked up his clipboard. "I said if you'd like to see her, I suggest you cooperate, I made no such promise."
Larissa clenched her jaw in anger. Without thinking, she grabbed a pillow from behind her and went to hit the scientist with it, but he snatched it from her.
"I'm going to warn you once that we do not tolerate violence in this facility." Dr. Burke snapped as he smacked the girl with the pillow. "Next time I'll call the guards, and I can guarantee you that they will not be as kind as I am."
With that, the Dr. Burke grabbed his clipboard, and left, taking Larissa's pillow with him. Larissa ran her hands through her blonde locks as she watched him leave. She felt trapped, she didn't know if he would move her into whatever general population was, and also wasn't sure if wanted to be moved there. She sighed as she laid down and rolled onto her side, curling into a ball. She played with the bracelet on her wrist, turning and tugging it.
Hello friends!
Sorry this update took forever, I work 2 jobs, so I am quite busy. I am still open for submissions, I still need more mutants, guards, teachers, and scientists, and of course the warden.
If you're interested in submitting, please PM me the proposal form. If I'm waiting on a character from you, please try to get them in sooner rather than later.
Also, if you enjoyed this chapter feel free to drop a review.
Thanks!
