AN: This one is a little different. It's my first attempt at poetry. I wish my mind was better at imagery. The prompt for this was a whole scene written by author/poet Kristina Mahr. Since it's probably as long as my poem below, I'm just going to add the first section to show the idea behind the prompt.

Edit: unfortunately, I can't figure out how to make the formatting work so this is just showing up as one big piece without any paragraphs.

The Fic Lab Prompt: "Two years ago someone built a sandcastle and I said it was beautiful while you said you'd seen better. I think that sums us up."

I can see it coming.

Your wings are too big for this small town.

Where I see its graceful beauty.

Its quaintness makes you frown.

"I've seen better," you say.

We hang out with our friends.

You talk about all of your dreams.

With one look at my face.

They know we're falling apart at the seams.

"It'll be better," you say

Every day I wonder.

Is there a way to make you stay?

But as hard as I try.

I know you'll soon go your own way.

"I can be better," I say

You tell me you love me.

And I know you think that you do.

But that love is not nearly enough.

And I've finally accepted it's true.

"I deserve better," I say.
