Chapter 5: Kursed Identity
At the last moment, Peter jumped back and grabbed onto the ledge as the Rhino ran off the balcony! Rhino flew through the air and was knocked against the Sphinx! The robot stumbled, allowing Kong to punch it in the face! The gorilla then lifted the Sphinx high above his head and tossed it against the wall! "Eat this, you monstrous monkey!", said the Green Goblin as he tossed some grenades at Kong! Kong dodged each explosion and tossed a rock at the Green Goblin as the Sphinx ran forward! "Tear him apart, Sphinx", cackled the Green Goblin.
Kong was knocked back by the robot's claws, but then charged forward! He punched the Sphinx in the face before sending it flying with a back hand! Kong punched the robot again and then grabbed it by the tail, hurling it into the walls of the castle! It smashed through and fell into the forest! Kong roared and charged after it, continuing the battle in the heart of the Black Forest! "Now to get the Darkhold", said the Green Goblin as he flew into the castle. There, he found Susan holding it in her grasp. "Hand over the book, girl, or I'll have to use my pumpkin bombs on you", the Green Goblin snarled. "How about a third option?", said a voice, and the Green Goblin was then hit in the eyes by a glob of webbing! "Spider-Man!", cried Susan. "Toss me the book", said Spider-Man, "I'll handle this". Susan threw the Darkhold over to Spider-Man as the Green Goblin tore the webs off of his face! "Hey, Gobby, come and get it!", said Spider-Man as he swung off into the woods!
As he leaped between the trees, the Green Goblin flew in and tossed grenades at him, blowing up several trees! Spider-Man webbed onto the Green Goblin's glider and swung underneath him! Then, he leaped up and kicked the Green Goblin in the face! But then, the Green Goblin punched Spider-Man in the gut, sending him flying to the treetops! Spider-Man then jumped out of the way as the Green Goblin threw some blades shaped like bats at him! He fired some webs at the Green Goblin, tangling him up! The Green Goblin snarled as he fired missiles from his glider! Spider-Man kicked away one of them, sending it exploding into the other missile! Just then, they both ducked out of the way as the Sphinx was tossed through some trees!
Kong roared and beat his chest as the Sphinx charged forward! But then, Spider-Man swung down and webbed up its legs, knocking the Sphinx over! Spider-Man then leaped out of the way as the Green Goblin fired missiles at him! "Good thinking, Gobby", said Spider-Man as he landed in a tree, "Destroy the book so no one can have it". "Not if I destroy you first!", snarled the Green Goblin. He threw some blades, but had to duck out of the way of Kong's fist as he punched the Sphinx in the leg! He then grabbed the robot and slammed it into the ground, shattering it into pieces! Kong growled and tried to attack the Green Goblin! But then, Rhino and Scorpion arrived with Bobby, Professor Bond, and Susan in their grasp! "LOOKING FOR SOMETHING?", asked the Rhino. "Hand over the book, Spider-Man, or we'll stage a good ol' fashioned execution in the woods like ye olde times", said the Green Goblin. "Don't do it, Spider-Man!", cried Bobby. "Quiet you", said Scorpion. "Stay back, monkey", said the Green Goblin as he aimed his missiles at Kong, who growled with rage, "We'll kill them all if both of you come close". "There's no need for that", said Spider-Man, "Let them go". The Green Goblin gave the signal, and the hostages were released. Spider-Man then tossed the Darkhold over to the Green Goblin. "Nice to business with you", said the Green Goblin as he and the other villains ran off.
"You let them get away?", asked Susan. "Nope", said Spider-Man as he tossed something over to Susan, "I put a tracker on his glider. With that receiver, you should be able to track them down". "Wait, they didn't get Peter", said Professor Bond. "Don't worry, I'll go check on him", said Spider-Man as he swung away.
Elsewhere, the villains flew off in their jet, the Darkhold locked firmly behind a metal container. "Excellent work, gentlemen", said Dr. Octopus. "Indeed", said Dr. Who, "However, due to your previous failures, I have decided to accompany you to the next goal". "Which would be a temple complex in Cambodia", said the Vulture as he looked over a map posted on the wall, "Unless they find some way to fly Kong across two continents, we should be in the clear". "Don't underestimate Kong or the Bond family", snapped Dr. Who, "They may not have the edge on power, but they're clever. Rest assured, I'll be waiting for them".
What the villains didn't realize was that the Venture was equipped with jets, allowing the ship to swiftly catch up to them in secret. As the shipped skidded across the water, Susan was making adjustments to the tracker. "What are you doing?", asked Peter. "I'm fine tuning the device so that we can track down more than the villains' signal", explained Susan, "In fact, I'm hoping the prediction protocol I installed will tell us where they head to next". "How did you install the program?", asked Peter. "I just recalibrated the internal servers to allow for more spacial memory", said Susan. "Walloping web snappers", exclaimed Peter, "That's incredible!". "I know, right?", said Susan, "Anyway, the protocol is saying they're headed straight for Cambodia". "Do you think we'll find what they're after first?", asked Peter. "Hard to say", said Susan, "All I know is that Kong, the big galoot, is just itching for a fight".
Soon enough, the Venture arrived on the coast, and the Bond family and Peter followed Kong in a river boat as the mighty ape trekked through the jungles until they came upon their destination, one of the fantastic stone temples that seemed to grow out of the jungle itself, with trees growing along the aged stone walls and vines covering the door. Kong snorted before pulling the vines away and entering, with his companions not far behind. As Professor Bond lit up his flashlight, everyone saw carvings of a massive ape warding off invaders. "Is that Kong, Dad?", asked Bobby. "Looks like it", said Professor Bond, "Though it might also be a depiction of the Hindu monkey God, Hanuman". Soon, enough, they all entered a massive area with several statues of men with monkey attributes, stone pillars taller then Kong himself, Wood scaffolding on some of the higher alters, bursting geysers, and a single podium with a single stone that glowed with red energy. Just then, the doors behind them slammed shut as torches lit up, revealing the Green Goblin, Vulture, and Dr. Who! "I should have known you'd be involved with this, Dr. Who", said Professor Bond as he ushered, Peter, Bobby, and Susan behind him. "That, right there, is why I'm the superior scientist, Professor", said Dr. Who, "Any man with half of my intellect would see that my allies are working in my area of expertise: Mondo Island mythology". "Don't even think of taking the Kurse Stone", said Vulture, "Not even Spider-Man can stop us from taking it". "What's to stop Kong from taking it?", asked Bobby as Kong growled.
Dr. Who pulled out a remote and pushed a button, revealing sixteen smaller robots that looked like Kong with arm-mounted guns and bat-like wings on their jet-packs. "I present the Tactical-Kongs", said Dr. Who, "Not quite the masterpiece Mechani-Kong was, but they'll do the job". "Enough chatter", snarled the Green Goblin, "Attack!" The Green Goblin, Vulture, and the Tactical-Kongs suddenly flew in and began firing electric bolts at Kong, who swatted at the attacking robots! "Remember, we need them alive", said Dr. Who, "Professor Bond, however, is of no use to us". He pulled out his rifle and aimed at Professor Bond, only for Peter to tackle the man out of the way of his shot!
Kong snarled as he blocked electric bolts with his forearms! He ducked behind one of the stone pillars and pulled it out of the ground with all of his strength! The dust kicked up provided him the cover he needed, and Kong grabbed two of the Tactical-Kongs and slammed them into the ground! He punched out another of the robots before stepping on two more of them! Five of the Tactical-Kongs flew in to attack the Bond family as they ducked behind a stone pillar to avoid machine gunfire from Vulture! Peter dodged an electric bolt and threw a rock at one of the Tactical-Kongs, drawing its attention! "Fool", said Vulture, "Just one of those bolts is enough to kill an average man". Just then, Peter was blasted away by a single electric bolt! "Peter!", cried Susan, just as Kong crushed the Tactical-Kong with his fist!
Bobby pulled Professor Bond out of the way as Dr. Who fired another shot! Just then, the Green Goblin and the other Tactical-Kongs flew in and fired missiles, setting off another geyser! What no one noticed was that Peter pulled himself behind a fallen pillar and put on his mask. While that was happening, Kong crushed another of the Tactical-Kongs before blocking Susan, Bobby, and Professor Bond from the blast of the Green Goblin's grenades! "I have the Professor in my sights", said Vulture as he aimed his machine gun at Professor Bond.
Just then, a web pulled the gun away as Spider-Man punched the Vulture in the face! He then swung his way over to Dr. Who and pulled his rifle away from his hands! "So you're the infamous Dr. Who", said Spider-Man as he landed below him, "What's the matter, can't find your police box, guvnor?" "No, but I still have a few tricks up my sleeve", said Dr. Who as he pulled out a pistol, "At the risk of sounding droll, I won't go down without a fight". Just then, Spider-Man fired a web and pulled himself forward, spinning in mid-air to avoid one of the bullets fired at him before punching Dr. Who in the face! Dr. Who pushed a button on his remote, summoning three more Tactical-Kongs! As soon as they fired, Spider-Man dodged, letting the robots destroy each other! He then ran across the wooden bridge after Dr. Who, but the mad doctor detonated a bomb, setting off a geyser that knocked Spider-Man over! But as he was falling to the ground, Spider-Man fired a web and swung over to a wall, which he then ran up to punch Dr. Who! Dr. Who fired wildly, only for Spider-Man to block the barrel of the pistol with webs! Dr. Who swung at Spider-Man, who dodged the attack but was punched by the evil scientist! Suddenly, both of them jumped out of the way of the Green Goblin's missile! As soon as he got up, Dr. Who tore the webs off of his gun, only for Spider-Man to hit him with web balls!
"Just stay in my sights", snarled the Green Goblin as he aimed his machine guns at Spider-Man. Suddenly, he dodged a strike from Kong, who threw another punch at the Green Goblin! Below the battling giant, Spider-Man ran out of webs! "Walloping web snappers!", cried Spider-Man. Before Dr. Who could fire his gun, Spider-Man ran forward and tackled him of the side of the alter! He then kicked his gun away and knocked out Dr. Who with a single punch! "The tide turns against us", said the Vulture, "Grab the doc and get out of here!" The Green Goblin flew in and picked up Dr. Who before flying out with Vulture and the Tactical-Kongs!
"Glad that's sorted out", said Spider-Man, "Susan, can your prediction protocol tell us where they're heading". "Oh, come on, Peter", said Susan, "I know its you". "But didn't Peter get shot by those robots?", asked Bobby. "Yeah, but the Vulture said it would kill an average man, and Spider-Man is anything but average", said Susan. "What gave it away?", asked Spider-Man. "You mean aside from saying walloping web snappers?", asked Susan, "The only person I told about the prediction protocol was Peter, and that whole protocol thing was something I made up. I took a guess based on what the villains were looking for. There were other things too, like the doors being sealed shut and just the general coincidence of Spider-Man showing up just where we were". Kong chuckled at Susan's rant. "Wait a minute, you knew!?", she said as she pointed at Kong. Kong groaned and facepalmed. "This is so cool", said Bobby, "My sister's boyfriend is a superhero". "HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND", Susan snarled. "That's a shame, I think you kids would make a great couple". "DAD!", whined Susan as she covered her blushing face. "Let's just get the Kurse Stone out of here and head to the next place", said Spider-Man as he picked it up. "Where are we going next?", asked Bobby. "After the Master Emerald in San Francisco", said Susan.
Meanwhile, the villains took off on their jet and flew across the Pacific. "I'm no expert, Doc, but I do know what you did with Spider-Man is what we in this business call 'failing'", said the Green Goblin. "Still, it wasn't a total loss", said Dr. Octopus, "As we are speaking, I have arrived in San Francisco and Mechani-Kong is now fully repaired. As soon as you land, we'll all rendezvous at the wharf and gather our findings". "You said the doors were fully seeled, right Dr. Who?", asked the Scorpion. "Indeed", said Dr. Who, "Only four people came in, and Spider-Man wasn't among them." "I think I have an inkling of just who Spider-Man truly is", said Dr. Octopus, "and as soon as you land, I'll be ready for him".
