My Little Pony: Civil War
I could not believe either my luck, or Gabby's. In one single day, she managed to bring one hundred Griffons to join up and take up arms. With the success, I was called back to Cantorlot while the Griffons were getting settled into the barracks not far from Ponyville. I brought my second-in-command Valiant Charge with me to help train our new recruits
At the start of their training, the Griffons prove themselves to be very capable soldiers. They are fast on their paws, alert of hearing, and swift on their wings. We are at a time when muzzleloading firearms are being phased out of frontline service. From hot summer days to the spring rains, they march and they train. What they need now are weapons
"Private Gilda, is there a problem?"
"How come we haven't gotten our uniforms yet, or anything for that matter?" she asked me, something is wrong. I had been going back and forth to the armory for the passed few days. I kept being told that the firearms and uniforms are still waiting to be processed and approved by the army. I also requested a specific rifle to be issued to the Griffons.
"Don't worry, we'll get this settled"
I winked to Gilda, and she grinned back. This unit in the Equestrian Army had been approved by her majesties Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. These soldiers are under the command of me and Valiant Charge. My second-in-command grinned as well as she walked beside me, and we went to the Royal Armory in Cantorlot to see this deed to be done
"Captain? Sergeant? What brings you by today?" asked the quartermaster-pony Brass Buttons. A dark brown stallion with a black mane and tail, his cutie mark is the dark blue jacket with brass buttons that we officers wear. Neither me nor my sergeant were there to make pleasant conversation with him as I saw a newly opened bottle of corn whiskey.
"I want one hundred uniforms and one hundred rifled muskets, and anything else you've been holding back from our troops" I demanded of him though keeping my voice to a conversational tone. A few griffons are outside the closed white door in case any of the Pony-Soldiers want to start up a ruckus. Brass Buttons made a chuckle, but I see his fear
"Piece of Rat Filth..." I hissed at him
"I'd like to help you, but we just don't have any"
"Not for Cat-Birds you don't" I fired back at him as I was getting up in his muzzle. Valiant Charge was waiting by the door in case Brass Buttons decided to make a gallop for it. Still, the quartermaster-pony was standing, or more specifically sitting, his ground at his polished wood desk. I can see him sweating a tad on collar, and it is not from the heat.
"Not for anypony" he defended, I nodded
"Pity, then I'll just have a look"
I walked passed his wood desk, and looked at the stores of canteens, coffee pots, and items reserved for only the Ponies. I began pull items off the shelves to his shock "Son of a Mangy Mutt" I snarled as I knocked over some neatly stacked tin cans. Now was the time Brass Buttons put a hoof down to my actions. A rather weak hoof I do say so myself.
"Hey! You can't-" I got up in his muzzle
"Can't I?! I'm a captain, nasty little cuss!" I rebuked "you really think you can keep one hundred soldiers of the Royal Army without uniforms or weapons because you think it's funny?! Now where would that power come from?!" now Brass Buttons looked scared, and stuttering his words. I think I got a point across to him. Valiant Charge smiled as well.
We left the quartermaster-pony, and went outside where our Griffon troops were waiting for the result. I smiled, and they all knew what they are getting. In no time at all, the Griffons are now in the blue of the Royalist Army. That is not all. Our rifled muskets arrived too. For our unit, we're issued Colt Model 1855 Cartridge Conversion Revolving Rifles
I was happy to start musketry training with the Griffons. In exercises of shooting from the air and hitting moving targets, they prove themselves as capable and skilled shots as well as being quick on the reloading processes. Their accuracy is as keen as the eyesight of their avian halves. Now splendid in their uniforms, they will bring hell on those Rebels
'Parade Day' soon arrived "Forward march!"
With bayonets fixed to the barrels and arms shouldered, they flew in perfect lines, twenty lines of five. I used my magic to unsheathe my saber as I marched alongside them. Fillies and colts and griffon hatchlings watched as we marched by. Our uniforms are crisp, and sharp from their jackets and kepis to their belts. I am so proud to be their captain.
We soon saw The Princesses "Eyes...right!"
Valiant Charge and I wore our feathered 'Henschel Hats' proudly. The thing about being a Tulparian 'Big Mare' is when I am marching or even just going for a stroll, I have a bit of jiggle in my flanks. A few stallions broke through the crowds of onlookers, and asked me to marry them. The same went for Valiant Charge until a police-pony held them back.
It will not be long after the parade that these new volunteers will be on the boats crossing the Celestial River to the front. I believe they will be a sight to behold once they see action. Those rebels won't know what hit them. Well, they will. It's called .44 Rimfire. The soldiers settled down at their camp with 'coosh' cooking in a pot. I guess it's meal time
