Chapter 2: Gaudium Daemoniorum
Edited by Soul River
Blue Rose was quick to receive the message sent by E-Rantel, and they couldn't believe what Pluton had written to them. However, it was his handwriting, so it had to be true.
They had just arrived at the Royal Palace, ready to meet with the Princess to discuss this topic.
As they entered their usual meeting room, the Princess was already there, Climb right behind her.
"Her Highness welcomes you, Blue Rose," Climb said, giving a short bow to the highest-rank adventurers of the kingdom.
"Good to see you again, Climb," Gagaran said, while the others simply nodded and went to their chairs.
Princess Renner took a sip from her tea elegantly and began the discussion.
"So then, Lakyus, what happened exactly?" Renner asked, knowing full well what was going on. The Royal Palace had received messages as well, but she knew even before then from other, hidden sources.
"Your Highness, we… we received a message from E-Rantel, that a horrible creature attacked the city. And from what the guards could gather, it is said to be a demon of sorts, but we still don't know if this is true."
At Lakyus's words, Renner made a surprised expression, just like a princess would do when hearing the terrible news.
"That can't be true!" Renner said dramatically, making sure she monitored her actions correctly.
Lakyus's expression and demeanor became serious as she spoke, "The source of this information is the Guild Master of the Adventurers Guild in E-Rantel, and I believe him to be trustworthy. Pluton wrote down the words the being had said, according to the recount of the adventures. It called itself the Great Demon of Catastrophe, a World Disaster, Ruler of Demons, and his name is Baphomet."
The Princess was shocked, and so was Climb, but remembering his duties, he returned to his alert position.
Climb scanned the room and noticed that the members of Blue Rose, the mood became grim and showed unprecedented tension.
Sighing, Evileye dropped a bomb," And let's not forget that the "demon" destroyed half of the city."
Climb became frozen as he was not able to follow the conversation. No, he could, but the words were not reaching his brain. It had to be a joke.
"I must tell you not to jest to Her Highness!" Climb told Evileye, but Lakyus intervened.
"This is nothing but the truth, we have taken the letter with us, and I am sure the Royal Palace has received a similar message." Said Lakyus, looking Climb dead in the eyes.
Climb stepped back in panic, bowing for his rash response.
"Forgive me, but I could simply not believe it. Princess, please forgive my behavior as well." Climb bowed before the Princess, who chuckled at Climb's cute demeanor.
"I don't mind it, Climb." The Princess said, her eyes watching the boy like a hunter watching its prey. Turning her head, Renner looked at Blue Rose as if nothing had happened. "So, are you able to defeat it?"
The adventurers could only look at each other with a grim and uncomfortable look. How were they to answer her?
Evileye, the masked magician, sighed and decided to answer.
"Well, we don't know how powerful the demon is nor the true extent of his powers. But we can guess he was able to destroy half the city because there weren't any Adamantite adventurers present. So we should be able to handle the demon."
Renner and Climb looked reassured hearing those words! It's possible!
"Yeah, we'll show him who's boss!" Gagaran shouted, lifting her hammer into the air.
Tia and Tina only nod in silence.
"When the time comes, we will banish this demon back into hell. We cannot let such evil go unpunished. Of course, we have to find it first." Lakyus says, all knowing that she wields one of the Swords of Darkness, which could destroy a country if she wasn't being careful.
The Golden Princess looked relieved at Blue Rose's words and wiped the corner of her eyes of tears, "I cannot agree more with you, Lakyus. Soon the kingdom will put out a bounty for this demon, meaning every adventurer will be looking for it. But as the only Adamantite adventurers of the kingdom, I hope Blue Rose will face it first. If weaker adventurers find the demon, it will waste precious human life."
"Well, we need to go to E-Rantel and see if we can find clues to seek it out. Maybe it's still in the region." Said Evileye.
"About that. I would like to accompany you to E-Rantel." Remark the Princess, which garnered varying surprises from everyone.
"Princess, you cannot be serious! Not even a few days ago, a demon attacked the city! We don't know if it's safe!" Lakyus said, knowing the consequences if the Princess, the kingdom's well-respected Golden Princess, was to be harmed. The amount of backlash that would do to Blue Rose was not something they could imagine.
"I need to help those who have suffered through this tragedy. As a noble, no royalty, it's my obligation to make sure my people are being taken care of. And…" Looking at Climb, a smile appeared on her lips as Renner continued, "Many have become displaced and orphaned by this demon. The very least I can do is, provide a place for them. This is an order!"
"Hell yeah, Princess!" Suddenly Gagaran yelled, causing everyone to chuckle and shake their heads.
The way everyone looked at the Princess changed a little, even more, could be felt.
Climb looked at the Princess, feeling happy that she had not changed one bit. She was still kind. "Then this is settled. I will leave tomorrow morning. I hope you will accompany me." Renner said, and Blue Rose could only accept the invitation. Who were they to deny the Princess?
"What is going on?" As if waking up from a deep sleep where he was fighting monsters and men alike, Gazef slowly tried to get himself up, waking up in a completely different bed where he had imagined landing.
The last thing he remembered was fighting the Sunlight Chapter when suddenly, a hand could be felt on his back, and he appeared here, in what seemed to be Carne Village. It was strange, to say the least that he was still alive.
Gazef had planned to die in battle, buying time for his soldiers, yet here he was, alive and well.
Gazef remembered he got stabbed by the angels, but as he went over where he expected the wounds to be, he found nothing but undamaged skin. Not even bloodstains.
"Strange."
Maybe this was a dream or the afterlife for all that he knew. Gazer's thoughts were interrupted as a man walked into the room, which he recognized.
"A, Warrior Captain, your awake! We had thought you would sleep the entire day. You must be hungry. If you like, my wife can bring you something to eat!" The village chief said, too energetic for Gazef's liking.
"Sure, but explain this situation. How did I end up here? Also, who saved me?" Gazef could not remember much, but the situation was bizarre.
"Ah, yes. However, I believe you should eat your meal first. Then we will talk." As the chief spoke, an elderly woman walked in with a tray of steaming vegetable soup. Gazef didn't look at the soup; he simply ate it as if it were his last meal, consuming all the calories to ease his hunger.
Putting the bowl down, Gazef tried to leave the bed. He did not face any difficulties, but he felt his body was still exhausted from all the fighting he had done earlier.
Gazef went out of the house to see his troops all over the place, talking to the villagers and some even helping rebuild the place. However, looking at the numbers, some of his brothers had fallen. He had expected this, but it's still hard to see. "Master Stronoff, if you may follow me." The village chief said, and the Warrior Captain turned to follow the man, eager to meet his savior.
They walked a short distance, and as they turned around a corner, they arrived before a man standing with his back to them as if observing something. From Gazef's point of view, the man was slightly taller than him, not too skinny and not too wide, as if he had perfect proportions.
As if sensing something, the man turned to face the Warrior Captain face to face, or rather mask to face.
The man wore a golden mask with two horns sprouting from his forehead, both curved to the side. Only the mouth and the eyes were visible.
The only thing the mask didn't cover was the mouth and the stranger's dark red eyes. Observing the man further, Gazef noticed his attire as nothing he had ever seen. The dark suit the man wore seemed of exquisite quality. He wore a cloak as well. And if this man wasn't a noble, Gazef wouldn't know further. When looking at him, the man screamed power, money, and authority. But he also had a mysterious miasma surrounding him.
"So you're finally awake, huh." The man said, his voice young yet deep and experienced. No novice at all.
"Yes. May I ask, are you the one who saved me?" Gazef asked, already aware of the answer.
The man simply nodded and laughed softly.
"Why, yes. Of course, it was me. There is no one other than me who could have done that. My name is Ulbert Alain Odle, by the way." The man called Ulbert said.
Gazef wondered if Ulbert was a noble. From his knowledge, only nobles had such a long name and clothing that screamed capital.
Since Ulbert attacked the Theocracy, he had to be from somewhere that studied magic, so the empire? "Then I must thank you for saving my life and the life of all the villagers here, Sir Ulbert Alain Odle. My name is Gazef Stronoff, Warrior Captain of Re-Estize." The Gazef said and bowed slightly to his savior.
Ulbert looked at Gazef and was surprised by the gesture.
"There is no need for thanks. I hope you can return the favor by allowing me to follow you to the next city. I would rather not travel alone, as I have already spent much of my mana fighting against those magic casters." Ulbert said, and Gazef understood completely.
Gazef knew mages needed mana, and if he fought off an entire Scripture by himself, Ulbert surely had little mana left.
"Of course. That is the least we can do, Sir Ulbert Alain Odle. But may I know how you did it?" Gazef asked, Ulbert simply looking at Gazef as if he didn't understand his meaning.
"Did what?"
"How did you defeat the Theocracy? How did you beat one of their Scriptures?" Gazef asked, and Ulbert now understood what the man was talking about.
"Well, if you want to know." Ulbert removed a crystal from his jacket, but to Gazef, this did not clear up his confusion.
"This sealing crystal housed a powerful spell that I unleashed on the Sunlight Scripture. It ended them in one shot, but unfortunately, the spell is gone forever." Ulbert explained, putting the crystal back into his suit.
Gazef was surprised to hear this, a noble sacrificing his property to save a commoner like himself, that was unheard of.
"Please, let me thank you once more for sacrificing such an important item to save our lives, Sir Ulbert Alain Odle. If there is something you want, tell me, and I will see to it that the king bestows it to you."
"Gazef has access to the king? I thought he was just some dude. But, well, that could change anything."
"Mmh, at the moment, there is nothing I wish which I do not have. But maybe in the future, can I count on you when I decide on a favor?" Ulbert asked, and Gazef smiled, seeing that his savior didn't deny a wish from the king.
"Of course. You can find me either at the Royal Palace or the barracks. Just ask for me, and they will tell you where I'm at."
"I see. I thank you for the information." Said the devil.
"No thanks needed." Gazef looked into the skies and continued, "It seems it's almost noon. We should ride out soon. The faster we reach E-Rantel, the better." The Devil agreed as this aligns with his thoughts.
It took some time, but soon the soldiers of Gazef's troops were ready to depart.
To Ulberts luck, Gazef found him a horse that lost its rider to ride upon.
Ulbert didn't know how to ride a horse, so he tried to mimic what Gazef did with his. He had to use a spell, [Dominate], to bend the horse to his will.
No matter how powerful Ulbert was, it was impossible for him to become an experienced rider without training.
"We should reach E-Rantel soon. It's a fortress city located at the edge of the kingdom. I suppose you have heard of it already." Gazef explained.
Ulbert only hoped for it not to be the city he destroyed when he came to these lands.
"But who will suspect me? Nobody. I look completely different than before." Ulbert current appearance could not be linked to Baphomet, as the villagers themselves are his alibi.
Punitto Moe once said: "The best disguise is under the ones that try to find you."
"I mean, I have a literal mask that portrays a demon, but that doesn't mean anything in retrospect.."
The strategist of Ainz Ooal Gown was rarely wrong, and Punitto was right about this as well.
Ulbert didn't believe the Warrior Captain even thought of him being the demon, even if he portrayed his horns quite clearly.
After a long and quiet ride, the city walls of the fortress city made themselves visible. However, Gazef's face did not appear happy but sad, as he could tell something was wrong.
The soldiers had hesitant looks on their faces, looking at Gazef for guidance.
"Continue. We won't stop." Gazef said, seeing tents and the like outside the city walls. In his eyes, it seemed like a refugee camp, and as they came closer, his thoughts became a reality.
Gazef looked left and right, seeing people with burnt skin and amputated legs and arms. Children praying for their parents returned to life, elders sad but with no tears.
"What happened here?!" Gazef shouted.
Seeing all the wounded made him believe a fire did this, but a man quickly corrected him.
"I-it was a demon! A demon, I say, hahaha!" The man was clearly not right in his mind, having lost his sanity just as the massacre started.
For Ulbert, it was a completely different experience. Where Gazef felt empathy and pity for these people, he felt nothing. He has no connection to these humans as if he was never one to begin with. To an extent, it was true. Even before he began to roleplay as a demon, he was already one. It did not help that according to the lore, demons are supposed to hate mortal and holy races.
"What's a noble doing here?"
"Look at those clothes he has. They must be worth a fortune."
"What's that mask he's wearing?"
They looked at Ulbert with mixed expressions. Some looked at him with hate for wearing such a devil's mask. Others simply thought of it as a decorative piece. Whatever they thought, they couldn't possibly do anything, as this man was undoubtedly noble.
"A demon, you say. Care to explain how it looked." Gazef asked, the man hyperventilating as he recalled the memories.
"The demon was in great size, having two wings and surrounded by fire. I didn't see anymore, but the sight can only make a man go insane!" The man completely lost it, falling to the ground and laughing until he let out no sound.
Gazef decided to move on to the barracks to see what was happening. But just before he entered the city, he was halted by two city guards.
"Halt! Oh, it is you, Warrior Captain. I must advise you to enter with care. The destruction has caused quite a chaos. Streets are blocked, and houses could collapse at any second. There is also a demand for food, and thieves have made quite the fortune these nights." The guard said, but Gazef didn't think such would stop him.
"I need to see what's going on there myself. Sir Ulbert Alain Odle, excuse me, but I must leave for the barracks. It was a pleasure meeting you." Gazef said, slightly bowing on horseback.
"Farewell, Warrior Captain." Ulbert replied, and the Warrior Captain went off.
On his way, Gazef couldn't stop thinking about the person called Ulbert. He was a mysterious character, to which even his intense gaze was immune.
Ulbert was arrogant, yet he still saved himself and his men, risking his own life. Gazef guessed that in his heart, Ulbert had a good side that he tried to hide.
Lost in thought, Gazef noticed a familiar adventurer group talking to the commander near the barracks.
"Greetings, Warrior Captain." Lakyus said, the other four nodding at his arrival.
"To you as well, Blue Rose. What brings you here?"
"The same as you, probably. We heard of an attack on the city and came as quickly as we could." Said Lakyus.
Gazef only looked more confused as to how long ago this had happened. Was he sleeping so long that even the capital didn't have time to send him this news?
Sighing, Gazef looked at the chaos with a sense of pity and unease and replied, "I see. What exactly do you know of this "demon"?" He wondered if this would still happen if he had been here, but he was unsure.
"Well, we haven't seen it ourselves. But Pluton gave us quite a good description. Goat face, wings, big horns, etc. Just like one would think a demon would look." Evileye said, the Warrior Captain slowly connecting the dots. This demon was the same creature that saved the villagers, odd.
"So you have come here to investigate?"
"That and protect the princess while she stays here. Princess Renner decided she wanted to help the children and families that lost their loved ones." Lakyus said, now surprising Stronoff.
Gazef knew the Princess was kind, but this was almost too good to be true. He had a feeling something was wrong but didn't know what.
"Good. I must return to his majesty then. I cannot leave him without a guard. But it was nice talking to you, Blue Rose." Gazef bid farewell and disappeared in the distance on his horse.
"Well, what do we do now? There are no clues, nothing the demon left behind to give us any knowledge of where to find him!" Evileye said, slowly turning to Lakyus, who had a similar expression.
"I know it seems impossible. But we have to start from the bottom first. We can't just think the demon might appear before us. Let's go to the refugee camp and see if someone has seen anything we overlooked." Lakyus suggested, and the group complied. "Good, now let's go."
They followed the road outside the city, hearing coughing and screams of agony coming from the camp. It was terrible. People had been burned and survived.
Blue Rose could not imagine what that felt like.
And seeing it with one's own eyes did not help but made it more frightening. Death was simple, but the agony wasn't. Even their hardened hearts could not look at the scene unfazed. They had seen similar scenes before, but it was never on this scale. Lakyus was angered that a monster could even do this much damage. It needed to die!
"Oh, yes. The agony of these people. What a shame. Who in their right mind would do this?" Suddenly a voice appeared.
Lakyus turned to see a man standing nearby, leaning on a wooden pole.
The man wore an eccentric-looking suit, dark yet stylish. The inner part of his cape was dark red, and a red rose was portrayed on his left shoulder. However, the most interesting part was his face.
He wore a mask where his face should be, showing the visage of a demon they didn't know about. Red light seeped out from the mask's eyes, looking a bit mysterious. Long pitch black hair cascaded down his shoulders. Putting everything together, the man looked mysterious. He had no adventurer plate, nothing that could identify him.
"My name is Ulbert Alain Odle. A pleasure to meet you, Blue Rose, I suppose?"
Hearing the name, Lakyus tried to find any mention of such a name. It was a noble's name, no doubt about it, but no noble in the kingdom possessed such a name, not one she knew of.
"And who are you?" Gagaran asked with a deep tone that Lakyus noticed, stopping her friend from doing something stupid.
"Excuse, my comrade. I am Lakyus, the leader of Blue Rose. This is Evileye, Gagaran, Tia, and Tina." Lakyus gestured to each individual while saying their name.
"A pleasure to meet you. But what are you doing at such a place, if I might ask?" Ulbert questioned.
"We could ask the same about you." Evileye said, her tone filled with suspicion.
"Oh, well. I just arrived in this city not too long ago with the Warrior Captain. I met him at a village named Carne and helped him out. He left me here because he was in a rush. However, to think a creature could do so much damage, I suppose it is indeed a demon." Ulbert said, catching Lakyus's attention.
"So you know something about this creature?" Lakyus asked, curious about what Ulbert knew.
"Well, yes. From the descriptions I have gathered, I can say it is the same creature that appeared in Carne Village. However, I'm confused by this demon more than anything. In the village, it did not kill anybody but the attacking enemies of the villagers. First, it destroys a city, then saves some villagers. There doesn't seem to be any patterns."
"What? So it did make another appearance! We need to go to this village!" Lakyus said, but Ulbert was quick to stop her.
"It is far too late for that. The demon already took off. I don't know where it went, but it just disappeared in flames, according to the villagers. It must have some kind of lair, but to find that, well, good luck." Ulbert explained, destroying Lakyus's plan.
"You seem to know your stuff, dude." Gagaran said, eyeing the stranger carefully.
"Well, I have some knowledge of dealing with demons." Ulbert said, "some" being the biggest lie he ever told. He is the ruler of demons, the biggest one! That would be the biggest joke if he didn't know anything about demons.
Trying to act like a third party was not easy, but Ulbert could control himself to fulfill his role. "Does this mean you are trying to hunt this demon down?"
"Yes and no. We're also here to protect the Princess." Evileye answered, Lakyus suddenly remembering what they needed to do at this moment.
"Not good! The Princess must almost be on her way! I forgot we needed to escort her." Lakyus said, palming her face.
"The Princess?" Ulbert asked, tilting his head in confusion.
"Yes, she came to see the people harmed by the demon's attack. She is the only one amongst the royals to be kind to the commoners." Lakyus said.
"Mmh, very kind." Ulbert replied, finding it almost too good to be true. A Princess helping the poor? There was good in the world, but to find it in royalty? Impossible. "I must see this with my own eyes."
"Lady Lakyus, if it wouldn't trouble you, may I accompany you on your journey to defeat this demon? I might be a great help in that manner, as I am a mage myself." Ulbert said, looking at Lakyus.
Lakyus looked like she was thinking about it and was going to accept, but then.
"Hahaha! Seems you found a friend, Shorty! Now you two can play masks and magic tricks together!" Gagaran said while hitting the undercover vampire on the back, almost causingEvileye to lose her balance.
"Stop it!" Evileye shouted, and the two began fighting like children.
"Forgive their behavior, Sir Ulbert Alain Odle." Lakyus said, embarrassed by the display.
"Just call me Ulbert." He said.
"Same for me. Lakyus will suffice. I am an adventurer now, so I don't mind it. And for your question, we don't mind if we have some extra help." Laykus said, "But you might show your face first, you know, to know who we are talking to."
"Of course." Ulbert said, slowly reaching for his mask. Removing it was his biggest mistake, as all the girls suddenly looked at him with widened eyes and an impressive stillness.
Ulbert's face was what they would call perfect, symmetrical in all forms and ways, and charming that could even make a man fall for him. He didn't keep his mask off too long, putting it back on, causing sighs of regret and loss to faintly be heard. Evileye could only think how he looked like a vampire. Pale face, dark red eyes. But maybe it was just her imagining it?
"T-Thank you, Ulbert. There! The Princess is arriving!" Lakyus quickly changed the subject as a carriage carrying the royal symbol approached the camp. It was one of the best handmade objects the humans of this era could produce. For Ulbert, it was nothing impressive, maybe a little perhaps.
"Make way for the Princess!" The royal guards said as they cleared the road for the approaching wagon.
Ulbert watched closely as the doors opened, with a small girl exiting the wagon.
She was beautiful, her turquoise-colored dress reflecting the light perfectly while her long blonde hair poured down her shoulders like waves of water. She wore a small crown with a red flower attached to her diadem.
Immediately, all the commoners rushed there to see the Golden Princess, but the guards were steady in defending her.
Ulbert, without care, only walked around the Princess behind all the swarming people.
From all the peasants, Ulbert stood out the most, quickly catching the Princess's eye.
The Princess looked at him first with curiosity, seeing his unique appearance and mask, but swiftly switched back to her persona and greeted the people. From her flower basket full of blue roses, she went on to give each wounded one rose and her prayers.
"May the Six Great Gods guide you." Princess Renner said, her voice as soft as a commoner would imagine. However, in the back of the Princess's mind was still the figure of the mysterious man.
The man, neither rushed nor showed much interest in her.
Renner could still see his eyes, which showed darkness. She could read people like books and tell you their intentions.
That being said, Renner continued on until her basket was out of roses. Luckily, there was no one left to give a rose to, so she deemed her task successful.
Upon seeing that the Princess was finished, Blue Rose began to disperse the people until only Ulbert remained.
"Hey, Ulbert! You're coming with us, right?" Gagaran asked, seeing the mage to have stayed.
"Yes. I suspect you already have a place to stay?" Ulbert asked.
"Yes. We are currently at the Golden Pavilion. Just follow us." Lakyus said, and they left behind the royal carriage toward the lavish hotel.
On their way, Lakyus decided to find out more about their mysterious helper. "So, Ulbert, where did you come from?"
Lakyus noticed that Ulbert took a while before answering her question. Maybe he was pondering how to share? She didn't find this weird because nobles usually create false stories when they want to explore undisturbed.
"I came from the east. It is very far away, as I have traveled to get here for a couple of months. I do not believe it is a land you might know about." Ulbert replied.
Evileye looked at him this entire time, thinking it was her time to ask something.
"So, how did you end up here then?" The petite mage asked.
"Well, I was traveling until I reached Carne Village. There, I met Gazef, and now I am here. There isn't really anything interesting about how I got here. I just traveled a long time." Ulbert said.
"I see." Evileye responded, not knowing what else to say.
".."
"So, you said you're a mage, right? Let's say I'll tell you what Tier I can cast, and you tell me." Evileye asked all of a sudden.
"Tier? If I say Ten, then I am dead. Mmh, Tier 5 isn't bad." Ulbert thought carefully about his words, "I can cast one or two spells of the 5th Tier, but that's about it."
Suddenly all the faces of the girls turned pale upon hearing that, all stopping in their tracks.
"Huh!?"
All were amazed by that statement. Only Evileye could cast 5th Tier magic, and now then this person?
"You are joking, right Ulbert? 5th Tier is impressive, and I know only Evileye to cast it." Lakyus said, her voice not convinced by the magic caster.
"Then tell me a 5th Tier spell, and if I know of it, I will use it." Ulbert declared arrogantly, determining such a behavior should be acceptable.
Evileye began to think about what spell she should use.
"If you can use 5th Tier magic, then do this!" Evileye suddenly disappeared and appeared a couple of steps in the distance, only to notice Ulbert wasn't present.
"Behind you." Ulbert said, causing Evileye to jump from fear. She didn't expect that at all.
"You freaked me out! But, you can really use 5th Tier magic..." She said, astonished by that fact. Even Blue Rose was now more than surprised by the abilities of Ulbert.
"Yes, I said so, didn't I?" Ulbert replied, arrogance in his words.
"Well, you do not always find a caster of Evileye's caliber. But as I see, we are all tired right now, so better head for the Pavilion quickly." Lakyus said, and they continued to walk forward.
The Princess's wagon continued to the only palace in the city as Blue Rose and Ulbert turned right to enter the building.
It was pretty lovely, and Ulbert quickly found a room, and he pulled out some silver coins he found on the members of the Sunlight Scripture.
Finally alone, in his room, Ulbert could only think of one thing. "Adventuring, really? A demon of your talents?"
A dragon woke up in a place secluded from the rest of the world, feeling a presence he hadn't felt for a long time.
"So the time has come again." He said, knowing full well the owner of this filth would bring destruction to the world.
He had faced them before and almost lost to them. But this time, he would be careful and smart and make a good plan on how to eliminate this threat.
"Then it must be time to meet with you again, old friend."
Down in E-Rantel, where the dead lay for eternity until they reappeared as undead, two individuals are having the talk of their lifetime.
"So you're telling me you have enough negative energy now?" A feminine voice asked the elderly man standing beside her.
"Yes, Clementine. The massacre helped us. But we cannot act now. Too much is already happening, and this place will soon flood with adventurers." The man said, his tone worrisome.
"I didn't know Khajiit feared some little adventurers, hahaha…" Clementine taunted the necromancer, knowing full well what he meant.
"Stop with your games! If we act now, there is no chance we will succeed!" Khajiit declared, almost screaming, gritting his teeth.
"Bad luck then. If I see that again, I'll make him pay for taking away my fun!" She said, piercing her stiletto in the air.
"Don't you worry, you will have your fun." The necromancer said, but Clementine didn't respond, disappearing into the darkness.

There it is! Second chapter for this piece! Ulbert makes an entrance and hides under the people that want to find him. What a trickster! This is going to be a sort of adventure/mystery fic, searching for any clues on where the demon could be. But I won't tell too much. It could spoil the fun.
Tell me if you like the approach I am taking here or not.
And to answer one's question about;
Ulbert isn't evil!
Yes, he is. You don't understand that if you see his character, you notice that he has a BIG grudge against the high-ups in his world, something you notice in many villains. Not to say that his demonic nature will change him as well. So he has two reasons to turn evil/anti-hero, but more in the direction of a villain. And I take the perspective of a New Worlder here. To them, Ainz is already a villain, so imagine what Ulbert would be.
