Mikaelson Mansion

After Dinner

"And what are you two doing playing in the hallway?" Elijah scolded, after picking up the largest pieces of the remnants of the broken mirror. A ball was discarded off to the side, painting a clear picture of what had happened.

In perfect symmetry, the twins pointed at each other saying, "It was her fault!" "It was Julian's idea!"

Elijah frowned, "You could have been hurt by the glass. That was a very old mirror. I don't understand why you were even up here!"

Indy's lip trembled at the scolding and tears started to roll down her cheeks.

Elijah sighed and picked up the crying child.
"We got bored watching tv and wanted the ball," Indy confessed. "S-Sorry, we didn't mean to break the mirror. The ball just hit it by itself... It was a-an a-accident...Are you g-gonna send us b-back?"

Elijah hugged her closer and walked a little closer to Julian.

"No! Of course not," Elijah said, crouching to put her on her feet. "But I think you ought to go to time out and think about how you disobeyed me. Now, I was both of your noses in the corner. Separate ones."

Indy sniffed as Elijah placed her in the corner of the long hallway. His heart was saddened to hear her cry, but he needed to clean up the rest of the glass and remove the mirror. Elijah was relieved they hadn't gotten cut.

"Julian, what do you have to say for yourself, young man," Elijah reprimanded lightly.

Julian scowled and backed away, his brown face crumpled up in anger.

"I tole you. It was Indy who tole me to throwed it," Julian yelled.

"Well, at any rate, you are in time out. I need to vacuum up the rest of the glass and I want to keep an eye on you," Elijah said, going to grab his arm gently.

"No!" Julian shrieked, suddenly sinking his teeth into Elijah's hand.

"Oh," Elijah gasped in shock. The Original vampire had bitten thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of humans, but this was the first time he himself had been bitten.

"Don't touch me!" Julian wailed, backing away.
"I need you to go into the corner unless you want a spanking," Elijah warned, Julian's teeth had broken his skin. But Elijah watched as it healed instantly.

Sage came out into the hallway, saying, "Oh my, I was just in the restroom. I thought I heard a crash."
Julian ran to her and she looked at Elijah.

Elijah explained, "He just bit me."

"Oh," Sage said, leaning down to Julian's level. "Julian, we don't bite here. What do you say?"

Julian stomped and tried to pull away from her, but Elijah caught him.

"You need to settle down," Elijah said, as Julian kicked at his feet. "That's it!"

Elijah turned the struggling six year old and popped his bottom over his pants.

Smack.
"I hate you!" Julian thrashed, trying to escape.

Smack! Smack! Smack!

Elijah swatted him a few more times, not hard, but enough to cause a sting on his chubby rump.

Smack! Smack!

"Are you ready to do your time out? If not, you're going to get a real spanking," Elijah threatened.
Julian threw back his hands with his palms out and started to cry.

"No! I'll go!" Julian wailed.

Elijah nodded and carefully led him to the corner on the other side of Indy, who was turning to walk the whole scene.

"Turn back around, dear," Elijah chided. "Sage, would you get the vacuum, please? It's in the linen closet."

"Sure," Sage said.

Elijah knelt down. "I didn't want to have to spank you, but you need to listen or there are consequences. Now, you calm down and we'll talk when everything is cleaned up. Five minutes, alright?"

"A-Alright," Julian stammered, still rubbing his smarting backside.

Elijah patted his back.

"Okay, buddy. A couple of minutes," Elijah comforted, feeling guilty that he had resorted to spanking. He felt like a failure.

Sage returned with the vacuum and a small dust pan.

"Let me help you," Sage offered.

"No, thank you. I've got this," Elijah said, taking the cleaning supplies. "I didn't mean to smack him..."

Sage saw the guilt in Elijah's eyes.

"Hey, he'll be fine," Sage comforted. "You're doing a good job with them. Just let them know you care about them and they are forgiven after. I'll take this mirror, or what's left of it, to the garage. I know a refurbishing place in town. They can fix the glass."

"Yes, thank you. Niklaus is already grumbling they are spoiling the house," Elijah smiled.

"They are children. That's what they do," Sage retorted. "I'll leave you to it."

"Thank you, Sage," Elijah said, plugging in the vacuum. "I appreciate it."

"Of course," Sage said. She glanced back at the six year olds and they had seemed to calm down. There would be other storms, but this one seemed to be dying down.

Old Lockwood Property

Woods

"Caleb, throw those boxes on the fire," Tyler directed. As a athlete who lettered in three sports, Tyler saw that almost all of his team mates were present along with what seems like the rest of Mystic Falls High School.

Caroline jogged up to him, kissing him on the lips.

"Hey, nice turn out. The rain didn't keep anyone away," Caroline noted, pleased. They all needed a little fun after the events of the week.

"Yeah, it's clear now," Tyler said, looking up.

Damon parked and pointed Kol, Rebekah, and Enzo to the fire pit.

"You guys grab some beers," Damon directed. "I'm going to look for my brother."

Rebekah adjusted her jacket and waved goodbye and took off without a backward glance.

Kol tapped the hood of Damon's car.

"I need a car," Kol said to Enzo. "These new engines are really powerful."

Enzo chuckled, "Aye, you could kill more people driving than eating them in one of these babies. I should get one, too, but I don't know how to drive. Your sister is already making friends."

Enzo watched the beautiful Original vampire introduce herself to a group of girls. They offered her a drink and sat around one of the bonfires.

Kol was looking at the property, his mind looking for anything familiar.

"I think the werewolf village was here. Damon, your granddad might have lived here. If I am correct, there are caves below us."

Damon wasn't interested, "Oh, huh...That's interesting. Um, don't kill anyone in the meantime. And remember, a bunch of the kids are probably on vervain, so don't try anything funny."

"We shall be perfect gentlemen," Enzo assured Damon as he trotted off in the other direction. "I for one am here for the ladies..."
Kol chuckled and headed for the keg.

Stefan parked his red '65 Porsche 356C and then came around and opened the door for Lexi.

"My lady," Stefan said, helping her out.

"All these kids, jeez," Lexi said in awe. "It's cold out here, too. I guess they really want to party."
"We used to be like that, too," Stefan reminded her. "We could have taken off and caught a concert..."

Lexi grabbed her purse.
"Nope, this is where we need to be. How's your behind? Still smarting," Lexi grinned.

"Yeah, that blood helped, but not that much," Stefan grumped. "And you don't need to bring your purse."

Lexi laughed aloud, quipping, "But my brush is in here. And my gloss. Now, you plaster a smile on your face and have fun. Or else!"

Stefan rolled his eyes, "Yes, Lexi. I'll have fun...You know, when we met, it wasn't too far from here."

"Oh yeah, it was 1864 and you tried to kill me. What a surprise you got that night," Lexi recalled fondly.

"I kinda thought you were easy prey and I was awfully hungry," Stefan smirked. "Oh, there's Elena. Would you excuse me?"

"Go on," Lexi said. "I can make friends on my own. Go."

Stefan tucked his keys in his pocket and went to see what was going on.

"Stefan! You made it," Elena said happily. "Hey, Bonnie, Stefan is here!"

Bonnie turned, "Good. We forced April to come. She's still a mess..."
Stefan watched the pretty young girl hang by herself around an unoccupied fire.

"I wish I could relate. But since I killed my father, it was a bit different," Stefan said morosely. Elena looked at Bonnie and then back at Stefan.

"Are you okay? Where's Lexi? I want to say hi," Elena said cheerfully. "Come on."

"No, I'm looking for Damon. Where's Jeremy?" Stefan said.

Elena pointed, "He's helping Tyler with the kegs. Oh, there's Lexi. Are you sure you are okay, Stefan?"
Stefan grimaced, "Fine. Um, I'm going to check on something with Jeremy. Tell Lex, I'll be there in a minute..."

Bonnie interjected, "I need to find Damon, too. I wonder if Klaus told him that he gave me his car."
Stefan laughed, "He loves that damn car. I'm sure Klaus was joking."
Bonnie stiffened, "Stefan, no. Klaus told me it is mine. I don't think Klaus knows how to joke."

Stefan's eyes widened, "I would love to be there for that. I'll catch up with you girls."
Elena said, "Okay, whatever."

Stefan walked to the boys, saying hi to a couple of kids in his classes.

"Hey, I see you two are getting along," Stefan commented. "Need a hand?"

Tyler put down the heavy keg.

"Um, you can just keep your hands in your pockets, Salvatore," Tyler joked. "Yeah, Gilbert and I are bonding. We didn't have much choice there."
Jeremy laughed, "That's for sure. Beer, Stefan?"
"Yeah, hit me," Stefan said, getting a plastic cup from the sleeve. "Pour me one for my friend, if you will. Thanks."

"Who's that guy in the leather jacket?" Tyler asked, pointing at Kol. "Him and that other guy are getting pretty cozy with the cheerleaders."

"Oh, that's Damon's new 'Uncle Kol' and his friend, Enzo," Stefan said in surprise. "Guess he can't go anywhere without his new family..."

"Yeah," Jeremy replied. "You'll have that."

"Have you seen Damon?" Stefan asked, searching through the crowd.

"Nah, man," Tyler said, pulling more beers for the gathering crowd.

"I'll catch you guys later. Don't do anything I wouldn't do," Stefan said, walking off.

"Does he seem weird to you?" Jeremy whispered to Tyler.

"Yeah, but everyone in this town is weird," Tyler replied. "Tap that other keg, we're going to need it."

Damon leaned against a tree in the shadows. He watched Elena and Bonnie chatting with Lexi and another young girl whom he didn't know. He didn't bother listening in. Sometimes he missed Elena's husky voice so badly that it hurt. He imagined he could smell her scent from here. His new senses were so sharp, but it was also difficult to isolate them all. Damon shook his head to clear his mind.

"Hello, Brother," Stefan said, from behind.

"Stef!" Damon replied, surprised that his brother had snuck up on him.

"You look the same," Stefan said dryly, handing him the beer. "How do you feel?"

"Different," Damon admitted. "It's like overwhelming. My eyesight is even better, but it's hard to focus. I can hear more, but isolating the sounds is tricky. Klaus said I'd get the hang of it, but...Never mind me, how are you? I see Lexi made it."

Stefan followed Damon's gaze.

"Yup, she made it. I can't believe you called her," Stefan accused, hating the whining tone in his voice.

Damon turned and looked at his little brother.

"I was worried, Stef," Damon admitted. "You were acting shady."
"I answered your call. I just didn't want to hang out with your new 'family,'' Stefan defended. "You know Klaus and I go way back. How the hell can I trust him? What if he tries to compel me to go on another binge with him?"

Damon frowned, "He wouldn't. He promised not to compel me ever. Look, Stefan, he's, um, trying. The guy is a thousand years old. He doesn't think in one step, he's like ten steps ahead."

Stefan downed his beer in one gulp.

"This isn't a game of chess, Damon. This is our life, our home. What do the Mikaelsons want with Mystic Falls? With you?" Stefan demanded, feeling irritated that he even had to ask.

"They were born here," Damon stated. "Long before you and me, this was their home. I don't think they are planning anything nefarious, but they are planning to settle here."

"But you just say that Klaus always has another plan up his sleeve. What about the Founder's Council? And this explosion at the farm? I don't think it takes a master strategist to realize something foul is going on," Stefan shot back heatedly.

"Calm down, Brother," Damon said, as Lexi looked over and caught his eye. Damon waved and Lexi shot him the middle finger. "I think some shit when down in New Orleans and they can't go back. Liz hasn't said anything about the council. Things are under control. Now, relax and try to have some fun tonight. I would hate to have to tell Lexi you are acting up again."

Stefan's face heated up in the darkness.

"Damon, you're in a dangerous place. I know Klaus is your real father, but that doesn't mean you have to be his bitch," Stefan pleaded. "Look, why don't you just come home? I'm better and we can go back to the way things were..."

Damon chuckled, "You threw me out, remember? You are the one who called Klaus and now you are backpedaling. You have a lot of stones, Stef. Plus, there is something else."

"More? I can't take anything else," Stefan snapped. "What? You're already a hybrid, what could be worse."

Damon finished his own beer and crumpled the cup, tossing it. He pulled out a flask.
"Um, I'm actually a tribrid," Damon announced. "I can feel it, Stefan. The magic, I am now a witch, too."

Stefan leaned back against the tree. He surprised Damon by laughing.
"This is too rich," Stefan said. "I remember Father ranting about witches and evil being all around us. Funny, that he was right all along."
Damon growled and turned to Stefan, pinning him against the tree.
"What do you mean by that? Giusseppe was insane and probably all fucked up from booze," Damon hissed. "He didn't know what I was!"

"Maybe he sensed it?" Stefan said, pushing Damon off of him roughly. "I killed him. Maybe you will do the same and put a sliver of the white oak into Klaus' heart, if he still has one?"

Damon spat on the ground, saying, "We're linked, you prick. Killing him would destroy our whole bloodline. Is that what you want?"

Stefan smirked, "It would end this all. Isn't that what you always wanted? A way out. Then, you'd be free."

"I'd be dead and so would you. You know what, Stefan? Go fuck yourself," Damon said, turning away. "And don't call me again until you get your head out of your ass!"

"Go do some spells, Brother," Stefan taunted. "Maybe turn yourself into a reasonable person. You're one of them now, a Mikaelson, always and forever."

Stefan vamped away, but Damon muttered, "Jealous. He's fucking jealous." A part of Damon wanted to go after him, but he was too angry. The buds on the trees swayed and a torrential downpour descended on the party.

Elena shrieked as she felt the cold water drench her. She pulled off her jacket and grabbed April.

"Let's get back to the car," Elena yelled over the storm.

Bonnie said, "You guys go. I'm going to tell Jeremy we're leaving."

The rain seemed abnormally cold and hard. Bonnie could hardly see through it, before hearing the voice.

"Miss Bennett!" a voice called out. Bonnie shielded her eyes with her hand.

"Professor Shane? Is that you?" Bonnie questioned, seeing the figure in the darkness.

"Yes, I need a word," Professor Shane said. "Hurry, before someone sees me."

Bonnie looked back, but everyone else was heading to their vehicles in the now freezing rain.

"What are you doing here? How did you find me?" Bonnie demanded.

"It wasn't hard. How's your magic?" Shane said, they were huddled under a copse of trees. Bonnie threw up a magical shield to let the rain bounce off it.

"Does that answer your question?" Bonnie said.

"It's back, I see. We never finished our last conversation," Professor Shane said, wrying.

"The one where you tried to get me into sacrificial magic?" Bonnie inquired. "I don't need you anymore. Leave me alone."

"It's not a bad thing, Bonnie. Covens all over the world have always used sacrifice in their spells. It is a part of nature," Atticus Shane shared.

"No, it's evil," Bonnie said. "And dangerous. I don't do dark magic."
Professor Shane laughed, "But you already did it, Bonnie. You think the ripples of your spell to unleash a new tribrid on this world were not felt? You may lie to yourself, but you can't lie to me."
Bonnie was starting to feel nervous. "What do you want?"

"I want many things, Bonnie. But what I need is you?" Silas said.

Bonnie threatened, "I could snap your neck right now. Back away, Professor."

Professor Shane threw back his head and laughed, "Fine, but do it and you'll never see your mother again!"
"Abby? I don't even know where she is. She abandoned me," Bonnie snarked. She raised her hands to cast a spell on the professor, but something stopped her.

"What would your grams think if you let her daughter die?" Professor Shane asked. "I think you better come with me."

Bonnie was defeated, she knew Shane was right. She looked back to see if anyone was watching, but no one was around. Bonnie turned and followed Professor Shane deeper into the woods.

Elena went to dig out her car keys but they weren't there.

"Shit, my keys are gone," Elena cursed.

April's teeth chattered, "Elena, I'm freezing. This rain!"
Kol was about to get into Damon's car, but he stopped.

"Ladies, trouble?" Kol mused.

"Yeah, my car keys are gone. April is freezing. Can she get in Damon's car?" Elena asked.

Kol looked at the car, it was too small for them all.

"Come with me," Kol suggested. "I think I know where we can find shelter. Enzo, come on."

Damon wasn't anywhere to be found, so Enzo followed.

Kol put his jacket about April's head to protect her from the weather. He walked them to a cave hidden in the treeline.

"Ah, still here. Come on," Kol said, opening the metal grate blocking the entrance. It had been locked, but with a terrible groan, the rusty lock broke off.

Enzo laughed, "You know all the nooks and crannies here, Kol. I'm sure you have been here before."

"Aye, this cave system runs under the entire town now, I imagine," Kol stated. He dug a lighter from his jacket and found a stick after tearing wrapping a cloth handkerchief around it. He lit it making an impromptu torch.

"Wow, that was cool," April said, shaking the water from her hair.

"Yes, Kol knows a lot of 'cool' things," Enzo remarked. "I am Lorenzo St. John, but call me Enzo. And you are, my luv?"

"April. Um, April Young," April said, overwhelmed by the handsome man in front of her.

"And I am Kol," Kol smiled, taking April's hand and kissing it.

"Guys, I need to find Bonnie. We left her out in the storm to find Jeremy," Elena said, fishing out her cell phone. "That's no service in here."

Enzo grunted, "Allow me to find the lady. Kol, I assume you have things here under control?"
"Always, mate," Kol said, grinning. "And I have a few questions for Elena about my new nephew."

Elena shook out her jacket, spraying Kol with the rain.
"Um, I'm not saying a word. Damon might trust you, but I do not. Your brother tried to...," Elena looked at April and her sentence died on her lips. "Look, April, doesn't need to hear about this stuff. Let's just wait out the rain in silence. We've had a long day."

Kol looked at the dark circles under April's eyes.

"Sorry, luv. You're father was the one...," Kol stated, but stopped when Elena glared at him. He corrected, "Was the pastor?"
April sniffed, "Yeah, he's gone now. I'm an orphan."

Elena put an arm around April and comforted her. Kol peered out and noted, "It doesn't seem to be letting up. Odd, they weren't predicting a storm tonight, were they?"
"No," Elena agreed. "It was supposed to be over. Weather people are always wrong, I guess."

"In my day, we used to rely on the seasons, animal behavior, and the feeling in our bones to predict rain," Kol said. "Also, I suppose the clouds..."

"In your day?" April clarified. "You look like you are 17?"
"Aye, um, I am," Kol laughed.

Elena cleared her throat. "Kol, she doesn't know much about the history of Mystic Falls."
Kol realized April didn't know about the supernatural at all.

Kol leaned over and said, "You will remember me as a complete human lad. Though a very handsome one. You won't remember this next bit."

April's eyes gazed over and she repeated, "I will remember you as a handsome human..."

Elena snapped, "Kol, you didn't have to compel her!"

"But I did," Kol said. "Now, about Damon...Is he still in love with you? Come on, you can tell Uncle Kol."
Elena's eyes flashed, "I am on vervain, thank you very much. You want to know about Damon, ask him yourself."

Kol was about to say more when he heard Enzo coming. He stepped out of the cave entrance.

"Any sign of her?" Elena called out.

"Nay, she's gone," Enzo said. "Completely gone."

Rebekah came over, "What the devil are you all doing? Damon is ready to leave."

Elena was frantic, "Bonnie? Where could she be? Something is wrong."
Rebekah introduced herself to April.

"Don't worry, we'll find her," Rebekah said. "Kol, come on. I think the rain is stopping. Let's find the Bennet witch and go."

"Witch?" April asked in shock. "That's not very nice. I don't think you should call her that!"
Rebekah laughed, "Oh, you are a funny girl, April. Come on, let's get out of this filthy cave. Kol, are these the same caves...?"

"Aye, Bex," Kol said. "They are."

Rebekah touched the damp walls.

"I haven't been down here in centuries. I can't believe they are still here," Rebekah said, lost in memory.

"You people are really strange," April said, looking at Rebekah and Kol.

Enzo called out, "Hurry up. It's bloody chilly out here. This girl is freezing."

Elena and April trudged out with the vampires, determined to find Bonnie.

Mikaelson Mansion

Bedroom of Julian and Indy

"There," Elijah said brightly. "All cleaned up."

Elijah had gotten the children bathed and into their footie pajamas. He tucked in Indy, after giving her the stuff rabbit she seemed to prefer. The children had taken to sleeping in the full bed at the bottom of the bunks as Julian was still afraid of the top bunk.

"Julian, what do you want? The teddy bear or the dog?" Elijah coaxed.

"Both," Julian said with a yawn. "Hi doggy. Hi teddy."

Elijah smiled and put the stuffed creatures in Julian's arms. Indy rolled over and was almost asleep.

"Now, you know why I smacked your bottom earlier, right?" Elijah inquired.

"I bit you," Julian said, hugging the stuffed dog.

"Yes, and that was naughty behavior. But I want to be clear that I needed you two out of the way so I could clean up the glass," Elijah started, not wanting to upset the child again, but wanting to avoid this in the future.
"Okay," Julian said, his blue eyes resting on Elijah's face.

"But you were not bad, just your actions. When you disobey, there are consequences. If you won't go into time out, you can expect a spanking," Elijah clarified.

"I don't like that," Julian grumbled.

"I know, my sweet. And I don't like smacking you. So next time I ask you to go into time out, I expect you to do it," Elijah went on.

"I will," Julian said with another yawn. "Can you tell me another story?"

Elijah leaned over and kissed the boy on the forehead.

"Of course, let me think. I have a good one about Uncle Niklaus," Elijah started. "He was always running off into the forrest looking for paint. One time, he got lost. My mother sent me off to look for him and what did I find?"
Julian giggled, "I don't know."

"Well, he had found a friend. A big fluffy dog and was playing with it in the clearing," Elijah shared. "We had dogs on the farm, but never as a pet. I couldn't get my brother to come with me without the dog. So we brought it home. We named him 'Garmr', which just meant dog in Norse. I suppose we weren't very creative on that front. The whole family grew to love that dog. Rebekah would try to dress it up. Finn took it hunting, but Garmr developed the habit of chasing the chickens...They were terrified of that old shaggy beast..."

Elijah looked over and saw that both children were fast asleep. He was glad as he didn't want to have to tell the ending of the story where they had to rehome the dog before Mikael came back. Oh, how they all cried, even Mother. He wondered if he should get a real dog for the children. They deserved to have all the best in life.
