Evening

Elijah tucked the children in and then thanked Sage for tending to them. They ambled in the hallway. Elijah wasn't sure whether he should punish them. Did they really understand why they had done wrong? They were so young and innocent, babies really...

"Of course," Sage said, putting her red hair back in a pony tail. "I really think they are dear children, but that skunk! What a stench."

"We scrubbed it out, but it seems it is here to stay. So what's this I hear about you becoming our neighbor?" Elijah asked politely.

"Yes, I love the land. I know Finn wants something rustic, but I like the classic style of this house," Sage admitted. "I always wanted a castle."

"Then, you should have one. I'm sure you two lovebirds will work out a nice compromise," Elijah quipped.

"We shall see," Sage laughed, leaving to enter Finn's room.

Elijah retired to his room. He was sure tomorrow would be another hectic day.

Donovan House

Tyler Lockwood swung by and picked up Matt. He had his music blasting and pounded the steering wheel waiting for his friend. Just as he was ready to lay on the horn, Matt emerged from his ramshackle house.

"Dude, what the fuck? You jerking off in there?" Tyler snapped, lowering the volume.

"Yeah, Ty, that's exactly what I was doing," Matt retorted. "I was actually trying to find a clean shirt. I don't have a freaking maid like you do at your mansion."
Tyler laughed, "So bring your shit over and old Helga will wash it. She won't care."

"Yeah, I'm sure your mom would be thrilled," Matt grumbled. "She already thinks me and my sister are bad influences on you."
"That's totally ironic," Tyler said, driving away from the curb. "Considering you are the one who tries to stop me from doing dumb shit half the time," Tyler reasoned.

"Yeah, well, my truck is barely running. If you get kicked out of school, I'm back on the bus," Matt grinned, putting on his seat belt. He liked Ty's vintage 1971 Buick GS. Tyler's dad had bought it for him on his sixteen's birthday. Matt hadn't even gotten a phone call from his mom.

"So any word from Vic?" Tyler asked, glancing at Matt a moment.

"Nah, so far she's still in rehab. That's the important thing," Matt said. "But...never mind, I don't want to weigh you down with my problems."
"Matt, I'm your best friend. Quit being a whiny bitch and tell me what you need," Tyler demanded.

"I think we're getting evicted," Matt admitted. "My mom was paying the rent or at least talking to our landlord...But he came by last night and said that he couldn't keep extending us credit. He wants me out by the end of the month. So when Vic comes home, she won't have a home to come back to."

Tyler slowed down to a stop sign.

"Whoa, how much do you need? You know I have a trust fund," Tyler said. He didn't like to rub it into Matt's face, but he had plenty of money.

"It's not that," Matt said. "Well, it is. I think the back rent is a couple of thousand, but he wants to rent to someone reliable. I think my mom was stringing him along and now he realizes she's never going to do him or something."

"Move in with me," Tyler said. "Look, my parents don't like anyone who isn't a descendent of a founding family. But dude, they are never home. You could live with me and hell, they would probably not even notice. I mean, we have like 20 rooms. You could have your pick."

Matt leaned back and ran his hand up and down the seat belt.

"Thanks, Ty. But I don't know...," Matt protested. "What about Vicki?"

"She can move in, too," Tyler said. "Okay, that would piss off my mom a lot..."
"And Caroline!" Matt said, forcing a smile. "She would not agree at all."

"Look, let me run it by my mom," Tyler said. "If she says no then I'll get you the cash. No landlord is going to say no to that."

"But what should I tell my sister?" Matt pressed.

"Nothing," Tyler said. "Just let her get better. Have you tried to contact your mom?"

"Yeah, a hundred times. I even tried to call her boyfriend. They all go right to voicemail," Matt fumed. "She doesn't know Vic is in rehab. If it wasn't for Sheriff Forbes dealing with social service for me, I'll be in a foster home."

"Yeah, that sucks," Tyler agreed. "Now, let's focus on this weekend. You up for a party in the woods? I was thinking since the last one got rained out that we need a re-do. You up for that?"
Matt shrugged, "Yeah, I can get the kegs again. That's one perk of my job."

"Exactly," Tyler said, pushing on the accelerator. Caroline would be irritated if he was late for civics again.

Mikaelson Mansion

"Come on, Aaron. Get some breakfast," Wes said, gathering his paperwork.

Stefan broke into a smile to see the human boy so dressed up. He was wearing a jacket, a button down shirt, and slacks.

"Um, I think you forgot your tie," Stefan added.

"Oh, I thought...," Aaron said. "Is this not what they wear?"

Stefan shook his head.

"Let me grab you a pair of jeans," Stefan said. "I don't want the other kids to think you are a substitute teacher."
"Thanks, Stefan," Wes said gratefully.

Damon gulped down his mug of blood.

"Stef is kind of an expert at this high school thing," Damon explained. "He's been going on and off for like forty years."

Klaus put down his toast.

"How does that work? Don't they have photographs from earlier classes?" Klaus wondered, looking at his son.

"Yeah, but he used to go under a different name. Until our 'nephew' Zach passed away, there was always a Salvatore living in the house. On paper, Stefan and I are our own great, great nephews," Damon said.

Elijah added, "We did something similar in New Orleans. Though, there, no one ever dared question our credentials. The human council was appointed by us, which helped cloak our true identities."

Rebekah came down with her hair pulled up with a clip. She turned her head.

"Tell me the truth, can you see the green?" Rebekah demanded.

"No," Klaus fibbed. "It looks fine. I don't think humans could see anything."

Damon chuckled, "And in that get up, no one will be checking out your hair..."
Elijah frowned, "Sister, that skirt is very short. Can you not wear trousers? I thought that was your new prerogative."

"It's the fashion, Elijah," Rebekah insisted, sitting down. She poured herself some blood from the tea pot. "This is good."

"Thank Wes, it is his," Klaus answered, gesturing toward the human.

"Nice," Rebekah said. "Shouldn't we go? I thought we had to go early to get our schedules."

"Aaron is changing," Elijah said. "I believe all of the paperwork is in order. Now, Stefan will be there if you need something. Ric also will help look after you. Remember, no feeding at school. None. We are living as humans and there could be hidden cameras."

Kol muttered, "Sounds delightful. What if we get hungry?"

Elijah smiled, "I have prepared you lunches. The blood is in the metal thermos. Drink all you can now, though."

"So instead of plastic, our blood shall taste like metal?" Kol complained.

"Kol, you agreed," Klaus reminded him. "We need to blend in the best we can. You have your stories straight?"

"Aye, we're orphans living with our mature elder siblings," Kol started.

"And we hail from Europe where you sold antiquities," Rebekah finished, rolling her eyes. "Will anyone believe such a story?"

"People believe what they wish," Klaus added. "There's Aaron. Have a fine day."

"I wish I could sleep in like Enzo and the children," Kol mumbled.

"I will get Enzo and the children up when I get back," Elijah informed him. "Now, everyone in the car. Wes, you are coming?"

Wes piled up his file folder and followed the vampires into the SUV.

Mystic Falls High School

Mrs. Clark, the petite African American secretary processed the paperwork as Principal Weber herded the new arrivals into his office.

"So, you are transferring here from Europe?" Principal Weber asked, after getting everyone seating.

"Yes, we hated to have to enroll the children so late in the school year, but it couldn't be helped," Elijah said smoothly.

"Of course," the middle aged balding man replied. "Here is a copy of our student handbook. We, Timberwolves, pride ourselves on academic excellence as well as domination on the fields of sport. Please become familiar with the contents."

"They shall," Elijah assured the man. "Since Rebekah and Kol have been instructed by home tutors, they have never attended a public school."

Wes added, "And Aaron has only attended boarding schools. This will be a new experience for him, too."
Aaron grumbled, "I think I can handle it, Wes!"

Principal Weber looked confused, "Aaron, Dr. Maxfield is your guardian?"

"Yeah, my parents are dead," Aaron responded.

"Oh, I'm very sorry to hear that. Well, my office is always open to you if you need to talk. I'm sure Mrs. Clark has your schedules ready. Why don't you kids go out and get started. Miss Forbes and our welcoming committee will get you to your classes," Principal Weber shared. "I'd like to speak to the adults."
"The adults," Kol muttered with a short laugh.

Elijah turned around, "Kol, behave yourself. You too, Rebekah!"

"Of course, Brother," Rebekah said sweetly. "And thank you for your kindness, Principal Weber. I'm sure we will fit in fine."

Principal Weber smiled, "Now, I hope you know that my door is open to you also. If there are any concerns, phone or come in. High school can be a challenging time, but we want every Timberwolf to excel here and after graduation. And I see you are now living with Stefan? He's a fine student and a great football player. I am sure he will help the others adjust nicely."

"That's nice to hear," Elijah said, lending forward. "Wes, why don't you say goodbye to Aaron? Remind him to not let his attitude cast a pall on his first day."

Wes left and shut the door behind him. Was Elijah going to compel the principal? He didn't know, but before he could speak, Caroline led off the new MFHS students to start their day.

Mrs. Weber smiled, "He'll be fine. It's normal to be a little nervous on your first day."
Wes nodded, "I fear I'm more nervous than him. But thank you."
Elijah came out a moment later, looking confident.

"Come on, Doctor," Elijah said. "The day is getting ahead of us. I was going to stop in and chat with Ric a moment."

Mrs. Weber shared Ric's classroom number and directions to get there.

"Mr. Saltzman said you might be stopping in," she said politely. "Have a good day."

"You too, madam," Elijah replied, leading Wes down to Ric's room.

Mikaelson Mansion

Enzo heard the scuttling of the animal feet before he saw the rabbits. He and Stefan were sitting in Elijah's office as Enzo worked on his reading.

"Stefan, looks like lunch for you came early," Enzo chuckled, pointing.

"Rabbits? What the hell?" Stefan gasped, getting up and going into the living room.

Indy and Julian were standing by the sofa looking perplexed and whispering to each other.

"Guys, please tell me that you didn't do it again?" Stefan moaned.

"It was him," Indy said, pointing. "Julian don't listen to me!"

"Doesn't," Stefan corrected, crouching down. "Come here, little fella."

"We want a real pet," Julian whined. "He's soft and furry! Can't we keep this one?"

"I don't think so," Enzo said, chuckling. "And I don't think Uncle Elijah will be best pleased that you disobeyed him again. Do you?"
"Dis...disobeyed? What is that?" Indy asked. Stefan tried to catch the one rabbit, but without using his fast movement due to the children present, he missed it.

"It means being naughty," Enzo clarified. "And this is naughty. If that rabbit chews on something..."
"I'll tell him not to," Julian exclaimed. "But I have to look at him or it doesn't work!"

Sage heard the raised voices and came to see what was happening.

"Oh children," Sage said. "You weren't even to be outside. Did you wear your jackets?"

"We only went out for a minute!" Indy corrected.

Sage leaned down.

"I don't care. I told you I'd take you out in a bit. I think you ought to go to your room and wait for Uncle Elijah," Sage said firmly.

"I just want to play with the rabbits," Julian wailed.

"Ah, how many did you bring in?" Stefan said, from the floor.

"Only four," Indy said, counting off with her fingers.

"Four!" Sage gasped. "You are lucky I don't get you a spanking right now. Up you go. And do not leave that room! Get on your bed and think about what you did!"
Julian started crying and Sage softened and leaned down to him.

"I'm sorry for yelling, honey," Sage comforted. "But you two need to listen. There are lakes out there and it's not safe for you to be out there alone."

"But we were alone for a l-long time," Julian cried. "The a-animals won't let us get hurt!"

"I'm sure that is true, but we need to get these animals out of here," Sage said. "And you need to start listening to the adults."

Indy frowned and pulled Julian up the stairs.

"I'll see to them," Enzo said, picking up Julian and taking Indy by the hand. He hated to see them in trouble and upset.

Finn came in, "What's going on now?"

Sage cleared her throat.

"Honey, you know how you like to hunt? Well, we have four rabbits to catch," Sage said. "But don't hurt them, the children want them for pets!"

"Pets?" Finn asked in disbelief. "I never heard of such a pet, now a dog is a fine pet. But a rabbit?"

"Just help us catch them," Sage sighed. Stefan caught one and cradled it.

"It is cute. Think we can get them out before Elijah gets home?" Stefan pondered.

"He's their father now. He needs to know," Sage said firmly.

"But he won't be happy," Stefan said, petting the small creature.

"In their defense, at least it wasn't another skunk," Finn chuckled, catching another one and holding it by the scruff.

"Elijah needs to know exactly what happened. Just because they are little and cute doesn't mean they can do what they wish," Sage commented. "That's how you create entitled brats. Now, release them, I'll get the other two."

Stefan and Finn took the rabbits outside.

"They didn't mean anything," Stefan said, as he gently set down the rabbit.

"Nay, maybe he ought to get them a real pet, though," Finn determined. "Julian's gift is a rare one. It ought to be nurtured."

"Yeah," Stefan agreed.

Finn let his rabbit go with a sigh. "That could have been supper."

Stefan shrugged, "I don't know how Julian is gonna take it if he ever finds out that I have to eat his little friends."

Finn put an arm around Stefan.

"Well, we all have to eat. Better than people, I assume," Finn commented, as they went back to the house.

Ric's Classroom

Ric set his class to work and went out in the hallway to speak to Elijah.

"Ric, you've met Dr. Maxfield," Elijah said.

"Ah, not really," Ric said, shaking the smaller man's hand. "Ric Saltzman. Weren't you a professor at Whitmore?"

"Yes," Wes replied. "But I fear that chapter of my life is over. I think my ward Aaron has you for his history class?"
"Yes, during fourth hour," Ric commented, turning back to Elijah.

"Did you find out anything new about what we spoke about?" Elijah prompted.

"No, but I'm going to reach out to a friend at the Armory. It's hard to get in there, but I think they would have the information we need," Ric stated, turning back to his classroom to glare when it got a little loud.

"I am familiar with the Armory myself," Wes admitted. "They have been keeping records for decades, as well as magical objects. But it's hard to infiltrate. You said you have a connection?"

"Yeah, my friend Dorian works there," Ric acknowledged. "He could get in a lot of trouble if they know he is helping me. And I would need to offer him some things in return."

Elijah tilted his head. "Allow me to guess? Money and vampire blood?"

Ric was impressed, saying, "Yeah, that would be a good start. Dorian doesn't even know what they are hiding there, but security is tight. He'd be taking a risk even talking to me."

"Our Original blood is not something we share, but perhaps I could speak to Enzo or Stefan and have them contribute? Tell your friend we will get him whatever he needs within reason," Elijah answered.

"Good. I will. I'll be in touch. How'd the 'kids' do? I see Caroline is giving them the grand tour," Ric pointed down the hallway as Caroline was directing Kol to how to open up his locker.

"So far, so good," Elijah asked. "I noticed your principal is not on vervain. I asked him to contact me with any concerns or issues."
"He's a nice guy, but he basically hides in his office. Look, if the kids need me, I'm here," Ric said. "April is starting today, too. Poor kid has been through hell."

"I am sure of it. Her late father's death was connected to all of this. Of that I am sure. At any rate, thank you, Ric," Elijah replied, getting a check out of his jacket pocket. "We are indebted to you. Here is a small contribution."

Ric's eyes bulged, "Elijah, this is very generous! Are you sure?"

"Yes, tell Jenna it is an engagement gift," Elijah said. Ric poked his head in and told his class to settle down.

Ric reddened, "Um, well, thanks. I better get back to my class. I think they need a pop quiz."

The Original vampire and the doctor walked to the entrance to leave.

"Wes, I think I will need those funds from your Augustines sooner than later. Care to make a visit to Whitmore?" Elijah asked, checking his gold watch.

"Okay," Wes said. "But I will need to get back into my lab to get the files. I don't have the keys anymore."

"That shalln't be a problem," Elijah stated with arrogance. Then, his cell phone rang and they headed back to the house."

Lunch

"You what? Are you kidding me?" Caroline gasped. She glanced back at the table that sat Elena, Bonnie, Rebekah, and April. She lowered her voice, "Your mom won't let Matt stay with you! What were you thinking?"

"Care, he's almost homeless. What was I supposed to say?" Tyler whispered back.

"I don't know," Caroline admitted. "Maybe he could stay with me?"

"No way. I don't want another dude living with you. Plus, your mom is home less than my parents. But...there is another matter," Tyler mumbled, closing his eyes.

"What?" Caroline snapped. Out of all the dumb ideas Tyler had...this took the cake.

"Maybe Vicki could stay with you? Like after she gets out?" Tyler said, unable to meet Caroline's bright blue eyes.

Caroline laughed aloud. "Are you drunk? You want your ex to stay with me? Seriously?"

Tyler shrugged, "You guys used to be friends."

"Yeah, when she was on the cheer team...before she got kicked off for failing and giving blow jobs after the games!" Caroline fumed. "No way."

"It's not for me," Tyler whispered. "Look at Matt!"

Caroline looked at Tyler's lunch table and said Matt sitting there by himself, toying with an empty milk cartoon. She felt a wash of pity for one of her oldest and kindest friends.

"Okay, I'll bring it up with my mom, but not for you, for him," Caroline clarified. "Maybe if she's sober, Vicki will be like she used to be beofre the drugs?"

"Thanks, babe," Tyler smirked. "Hey, party in the woods this Friday? You down for it?"

"Yeah, of course," Caroline said, as Tyler hugged her tightly. "Now, I have to go back. Let me know what your mom says. I would love to be a fly on the wall of the Lockwood mansion tonight..."

"I'll catch her after bridge. She's always in a good mood then," Tyler suggested. "Yeah, that's the plan."

Mikaelson Mansion

"Four, you said?" Elijah asked again.

"Yes," Sage said. "I was quite firm with Julian. I'm afraid he went up to his room with tears in his eyes. But Elijah, if I am to watch them, they need to learn to obey. I think they both need a good spanking."

Elijah sat on the edge of the sofa and nodded.

"I did threaten them with one if they did this again," Elijah noted. "But they have been through so much of late. If you gave them a good talking-to, perhaps that is enough?"

Sage gave a small smile.

"I'm afraid it is not," Sage said. "I've raised many a young vampire and the thing I've learned is that you must keep your word. Children, like baby vamps, crave limits. They might not like the punishment, but they will learn to mind you next time. You need not be harsh with them, but let them know your displeasure."
Elijah frowned, "You are right, of course. Niklaus used to try to bribe his son when he was little with sweets and pocket money. He became quite portly and demanding until I stepped in with my slipper. He didn't like it but he became a good man."
Sage patted him on the shoulder.

"Finn and I have an appointment with an architect, but would you like me to stay?" Sage inquired.

"No, but thank you. I think I know what I need to do. However, distasteful it may be," Elijah said. He went upstairs and found the children coloring at their desks. Enzo was putting away their toys into the large wooden toy chest.

"Thank you, Enzo," Elijah said. "I hear we had an incident."

Indy popped up and ran to Elijah.

"I t-told him not to," Indy cried. Elijah hugged her and then put her down.

"Yes, well, we're going to speak about that now," Elijah said. Enzo left and shut the door.

Julian began coloring so hard, the crayon snapped and he threw it down.
"I hate this," Julian said. "Stupid crayon."

"Julian, come over here please," Elijah coaxed. He pulled a chair from the wall and sat on it. "Can you tell me what you were thinking? Sage said you went outside without her permission?"

Indy said, "We forgot!"

"Indy, let him speak," Elijah said gently, taking Julian by the arms. "Go on."

"I was bored and I wanted a pet," Julian said. "I know you said not to, but rabbits are nice."

"Yes, they are, but this isn't the way you get a pet," Elijah said. "Do you remember what I said would happen if you disobeyed again?"
"Consequ-," Julian tried.

"Yes, there would be consequences. That can be a punishment. And I think you two earned a spanking and a nap," Elijah said firmly.

Indy started to cry, "Why do I gotta get spanked? He did it."

"Did he carry in four rabbits on his own?" Elijah said, pulling the small girl to him closer.

"No, I helped. They were soft, but tickled me," Indy said, suppressing a giggle at the memory.

"I'm sure they did, but you disobeyed too. I am going to give you each five spanks. Now, lean over my knee," Elijah said, grabbing Indy but her arm. Before she could protest, Elijah swatted her firmly over her leggings five times. His large hand cover her entire small seat and he felt like his heart was ripping out. He willed himself to continue.

Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack.

Indy hollered and grabbed her backside as Elijah let her up.

"Now, you, young man," Elijah said, having to reach over and grab Julian.

"No!" Julian yelped as the five cracks descended upon his upturned bottom.

Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack.

"That was for bringing in the rabbits. I am not angry at you, but I don't like this behavior. And I think you ought to thank the others for gathering up the rabbits and taking them to safety. I imagine they enjoy their lives outside rather than being caged in the house," Elijah added as he watched Julian hop up and down and rub his backside.

"S-Sorry," Julian gulped.

"Now, can I have a hug? You are all forgiven," Elijah said with emotion, unsure of how the children would react. He opened his arms and both dove in for a hug. Elijah kissed their heads. "I love you both very much."

Indy blinked away a tear. "We love you too..."

"Are the wabbits okay?" Julian asked in a baby voice.

"Yes, sweetheart, they are," Elijah said. He picked them both up and took them to the bottom bunk. "Now, let's get you situated for a little nap."

"Will you stay with us?" Indy asked hopefully.

"Of course," Elijah said, arranging himself in the middle of the bed with each twin on one side. "We're going to get you two into school this week. Then, you won't be so bored. But I do have more to speak to you about. How would the two of you like to stay here?"

"For how long?" Indy questioned, raising her head.

"Forever," Elijah said. "And I wouldn't be your uncle...but more. Your father?"
Julian snuggling in closer, "That would be nice..."
"What do we have to do?" Indy asked.

"Nothing, luv," Elijah said. "Let me arrange it. Now, rest your eyes children. I am a bit tired myself..."
