BloodyKitsune: Wow, we have a somewhat eventful chapter filled with information for the future, but the next one involves us moving forward! I can't wait. I hope you guys enjoy this one!
Reviews:
Gabriel Herrol: That would be the question, wouldn't it? Guess you'll have to wait and see in a future chapter.
Jostanos: So many questions, Dearest friend. So little answers able to be given, I wonder if the chapter below might have a few answers *Wink*.
Chapter Nine
Staring at the woman who was supposedly his aunt though not quite, Ash wasn't sure what to think of the woman though apparently Gary was quick to take to her. His best friend had readily accepted the woman, it surprised him since Gary rarely ever took to anyone outside of their close family. He was usually the one to initiate contact with anyone and push his best friend towards people which often surprised those that weren't familiar with them. But right now though, Gary was acting as if he'd known Yellow his whole life rather than just an hour earlier.
Shaking his head, Ash got up quietly from the small wooden table where Yellow had them sitting down while she checked over their pokemon eggs and headed outside. He felt Pikachu jump onto his shoulder and reached up to run his fingers under the mouse's cheeks. Dropping onto the porch steps, he stared out into the forest well aware of Vali's pokemon taking small peeks at him every now and again. Pikachu shifted to settle into his lap after a moment and they settled there in silence for a little while as his thoughts whirled. When he heard the door open and felt that unfamiliar aura exit, he flinched a bit having hoped that Gary would be the one to join him.
Staying silent as he still didn't know what to say to the woman, Ash laid his head on Pikachu's and kept his eyes on the forest. He jolted a bit when Yellow dropped onto the porch beside him rather heavily heaving a deep sigh. The blonde haired woman spoke softly, "I never expected him to have a child, ya know? We all never really expected it," He froze at those words and knew almost immediately that she was speaking of his father, "Red...He was always more focused...At home with pokemon," A soft laugh left her, "Blue used to joke that Red would probably end up with a Ditto rather than a human," He glanced at her and saw a sad smile form, "But he surprised us all with you."
Heart beating fast, Ash stared at her as Pikachu made a sound of concern. He knew that his parents had never planned for him. Delia and Sirius had ensured that he knew that fact when he'd turned ten years old though they alongside everyone else in his life made sure he'd never felt for a single moment that anyone had regretted him being born. The only one who had remained silent was Red though Delia, Sirius, and Vali had all assured him that the man had his reasons whatever they might be. Still though, it made doubts linger within his mind. Swallowing heavily, he asked, "D-does he regret-"
"Never," Yellow looked at him with her eyes taking on a green sheen that made Ash's eyes widen, "For all that Red never once expected that he'd be a father anytime soon, you..." She smiled in a way that reminded Ash of how Vali and Sirius used to when they were reminded of their old world: Filled with bitter melancholy and longing, "Love was the only thing that filled his eyes when he'd speak of you. That and worry,"
"Worry?" Ash wanted to know why Yellow smiled that way when speaking about his father.
"Dex Holders have duties, Ash," Yellow looked towards the forest as her smile dropped, "Some like your father and I have duties that extend further than the others," She sighed deeply and shook her head, "We hadn't known of these duties when our own journeys began, but became aware of it as they progressed. Much like your sister and those like her, we were chosen for something greater than other Trainers. But as our journeys came to an end, we were given the opportunities to live our lives out as we wished without problem or so we thought," A shadow passed across her face and she clenched her fists, "Red had a feeling that something was wrong and out of all Dex holders, he has the best instincts besides Sapphire. He was prepared for something going wrong and just after Delia gave birth someone tried to attack him,"
Ash's eyes widened at that, "S-someone-"
"He was alright thanks to his Gengar and Espeon," Yellow assured him tiredly and rubbed at her face, "But he realized that staying with you two would only make things worse. Even with his powerful pokemon to help, Delia wasn't a trainer and you were just a newborn and winter was coming fast. So...he had to leave," She closed her eyes, "He set things up to ensure you both were well taken care of then left after explaining things to Professor Oak. Green and Blue were on the fast track of doing the same as they'd been attacked as well though thankfully no one had been harmed thanks to the lab being heavily protected,"
"All that..." Ash sunk against the warm wood and felt tears sting his eyes, "Dad wanted me...he actually wanted me..."
When Yellow hugged him, Ash partially wanted to push her away, but accepted the embrace as Vali or his mother wasn't around. He broke down sobbing and heard Pidgeotto's pokeball burst open. Warm feathers brushed against his face as she joined in on the hug, Yellow murmured softly, "Red has never stopped wanting to be with you, Ash. It killed him to be away from you. He's hated missing even a single moment..."
Sobbing even harder, Ash burrowed his face into Yellow's neck as the weight of what she said fully hit him and all those doubts he'd had about Red began disappearing. He still wanted to hear it from Red himself, but now...now he could wait a bit longer without it hurting as bad.
Returning with a camera filled with rather nice pictures and plans more firmly in place, Vali noticed Elrond stiffening a bit against her chest as they landed in the clearing. He spoke as they dismounted from Celina's back, "Due to his wariness of her and the way he worded his questions, Yellow deemed it right to inform him of why Red was not there during his early years."
Bolt of anger shooting through her at that, Vali wanted to rip both of her brothers from Yellow's home as the blonde had no true right to speak the story for all that she was a dex holder. On the other hand, Yellow was also one of the few other than Professor Oak, Red, and Delia that even had a true idea of what exactly happened the night of Ash's birth. Still though, she needed to know if Yellow had been given permission to actually tell Ash that. If Yellow had been given permission, she would have no reason to be angry despite how Ash was likely feeling. If not, she would definitely be making calls and letting Red deal with his fellow Dex Holder alongside Delia.
Taking a deep breath to center herself, Vali dropped onto the ground as she muttered, "Where is she?"
"Inside ensuring the stew she's made is ready for us to eat, I have informed her that we wish to speak and she is on her way out," Elrond informed her as Thorin jumped off Celina's back, "You will not personally deal with her?"
"Much as I may wish, Delia and Red have more right to it than I do," Vali grimaced a bit as her inner Arcanine seethed in anger.
The door opened and Yellow walked out as Celina took off to go find the others. The blonde spoke as she leaned against doorway with a slight frown, "I assume that your Raichu has already figured out what Ash and I spoke about, Vali?"
Nodding her head, Vali crossed her arms with a dark frown, "Getting closer to them is one thing, Yellow. Did Red or Delia give you permission to tell Ash that story?"
Yellow's eyes flashed a dark verdant green and her face shifted into something inhuman for just a moment though Vali stood her ground. Yellow stood up straight, "I don't see why I need permission-"
"You need permission when that story isn't yours to tell!" Vali's fury bled through and she glared at the blonde as irritation hit her, "I understand wanting to get close, but that doesn't mean telling a story without fucking permission! I-"
"Ash needed to know why his father abandoned him!" Yellow cut Vali off with a look of fury, "Do you have any idea how long it took me to get him to calm down? Even with Gary's help? Three hours once he started to cry, Valkyrie! He thought Red didn't fucking want him," Vali jerked back at that and Yellow let out a low laugh, "You didn't know that, did you?"
"No...I..." Vali had an inkling of it as Ash's energy always dimmed when he spoke or even though of Red, "But that still doesn't mean you should have gone behind their backs,"
"No," Yellow shook her head with a grimace, "And Red is likely going to be fucking pissed at me. But if it means his child doesn't think he abandoned him, I'll be happy," She let out a low sigh, "Our world is fucked up enough as it is...Red's life is fucked up enough as it is. He doesn't need to lose Ash..."
"Yellow..." Vali felt the anger drifting out of her as she saw the sad smile curl across Yellow's lips and tears slowly start to fall.
"Did you know that he was actually planning on proposing to Delia, Vali?" Yellow asked her earning a wide eyed look, "When Ash was born, he was going to propose to her then all that shit happened," The blonde let out a low sob and began to sink onto the porch, "I...He spent years breaking apart bases and killing people for threatening his family. Just when he'd finished, he came to me and I got him fixed up," Vali rushed over to her quickly pulled Yellow into a hug as a sob left the blonde, "He left to see her getting married to Sirius Black..."
"Shit," Vali remembered that day very clearly.
"When he came back...I..." Yellow let out another sob, "I could see how broken he'd become, Vali. We spent our entire adolescents, teen, and adult years trying to keep the world safe. We gave ourselves to keep this world save and even more than that to ensure the very balance would be maintained," The blonde sank into Vali's chest as another sob left her, "We saved legendaries, sealed them away, gave up pieces of our very souls to the very devil, and one of us...one of us had to died just to ensure the balance would be maintained,"
"Yellow..." Vali rubbed Yellow's back.
"Brought back by the Legend's grace or not, we've never been the same since... none of us have," Yellow sobbed as hot tears splattered against Vali's t-shirt, "Red...He can't lose Ash, Vali. He can't. I don't care if it means he'll hate me. I don't care. Just please...Please don't-"
"Yellow," Vali murmured softly, "It's okay. I won't say anything. I promise,"
It took another couple of moments before Yellow's sobs died down and Vali felt comfortable enough to release the dex holder. It was a testament to how much she'd grown and how often she had needed to comfort those around her that it wasn't so troubling to help the blonde right now. Slowly helping Yellow up, she wiped away the Dex Holder's tears as the blonde asked, "I...Can we not talk about this?"
"It's a bit part of my job to keep secrets," Vali reminded Yellow with a soft snort, "What's one more?"
Yellow let out a somewhat wet laugh and punched Vali's shoulder, "Thanks...Sorry for offloading on you like that, I-"
"You needed it," Vali waved her off, "You'd be surprised how many people tend to do that with me," She saw Yellow's curious look and rolled her eyes, "Again, I'm a secret keeper,"
"Damn," Yellow let out a tired laugh and glanced towards the door, "We should head inside and eat,"
"Right," Vali rubbed at the back of her neck as she looked at the door as well, "How are they?"
"Ash is doing alright enough. He's been curled up with his Pikachu and Pidgeotto by the fire place," Yellow answered with a slight smirk looking a bit better, "They have his egg out of the incubator since it's safe enough,"
"And physical contact will establish a good bond," Vali nodded her head, "Gary?"
"With his own partners set up by my book shelf readings as many book as he can pretty much doing the same thing," Yellow answered before gesturing towards the woods, "Apparently, he's interested a Spearow that's pretty much watching him like a Talonflame,"
Letting out a laugh as she recalled the Spearow Yellow was likely speaking of, Vali grinned a bit, "Hopefully those two will battle soon, Gary's been worried about that one and wanting to see it again."
"Oh?" Yellow raised an eyebrow at her.
"I'll tell you later," Vali waved her off as Elrond floated up with her bag while Thorin trotted behind him, "For now, I'm fairly hungry. I'd love to show you the pictures I've taken,"
With that said, they headed inside and Vali found herself almost dogpiled by her brothers though they were thankfully careful enough to leave their eggs within small nests of blankets. After a couple minutes of allowing them to fuss over her, she got them resettled and quickly began checking over Ash while Yellow went to look over the cooking stew. Ash spoke softly as he settled back down with his pokemon, "I...Vali, you have Dad's number, right?"
Vali could hear Yellow's sharp intake of breath as she replied, "I do. Let me guess, you want to talk to him about what Yellow told you?"
"I do," Ash stroked the shell of his egg softly with an unreadable look on his face, "But...I also just...I need to speak with him, Vali. I've been avoiding it. Mom had his number even if she didn't really call him unless something big happened. I could have called him when you were around. But...but I didn't..."
Letting out a low sigh, Vali laid her head on his shoulder as she murmured, "You want to start the actual process of getting to know him, huh?"
"I...I need to," Ash trembled slightly and his breath hitched, "Vali..."
"I'll be there with you...if you need me to be," Vali murmured making Ash's shoulder's relax and he slowly leaned into her side, "We can make that call after eating,"
"C-can it wait until tomorrow?" Ash asked softly earning a nod, "T-thank you,"
"It's no problem," Vali pressed a kiss to his cheek while glancing towards Yellow who looked a bit pale.
More than likely, Yellow was scare of how Red would react to the fact that she'd spilled the beans to his son without his permission. But Vali doubted that Red would come charging to Viridian Forest on his Charizard looking to fight with his fellow Dex Holder, the man would likely just be a bit miffed.
Taking the ringing phone from his sister as they sat down on Yellow's porch together, Ash stared at the screen as it rang for the second time which had earned a somewhat exasperated look from his sister. When his father's somewhat unfamiliar face appeared, he jolted a bit at seeing his own eyes staring back at him even as the man's eyes widen while Red's Pikachu let out an excited squeal. Before Ash could speak, Red's eyes narrowed and the man grunted, "Valkyrie, what is going on?"
"Ash wished to speak with you," Vali answered laying her head on the shoulder that didn't contain Pikachu, "So I agreed especially seeing as we're at Yellow's abode right now," She smirked at his dad, "Perfectly safe on our side for this little call,"
Grimacing into the screen, Red's eyes glared at Vali for a moment making Ash's stomach twist a bit before the man let out a low sigh. He took of the worn red and white cap from his head revealing scraggily brown toned black hair. Running a hand through it, Red muttered, "Impish fucking Arcanine and their need to cause mischief without proper warning..."
"I wouldn't be me otherwise," Vali giggled softly, "Ash, you wished to speak with Red. I'm just here for support as is Pikachu here. So..."
Feeling her nudge him, Ash jolted a bit as Red's eyes focused on his face in an almost searching way and he took a deep breath trying to steady his thoughts. He felt Pikachu nuzzle him which helped settle his nerves. Clearing his dry throat, he said, "You...Yellow said you left us for a reason," Red's eyes widen a bit and he winced a bit wondering if he'd worded that wrong, "I...Dad..." He felt tears burn at his eyes, "For years...I wondered why you weren't there. Why I didn't have my dad around," Ash's fist clenched, "And when I turned ten, Mom and Sirius told me I'd been unplanned things got worse in my mind even with everyone making me feel loved," He ignored the tears starting to curl down his cheeks again, "Yellow...Dad," He stared at his dad through blurry eyes, "You left to protect us?"
Red was silent for a few moments before sighing, "Damn it, Yellow," He looked at Ash with a sad look, "Yes, Ash. I left to ensure you would be safe. I...When you were born, I got attacked by enemies that had been waiting for a moment when I'd be weak. When I finally managed to beat them, I learned that there were so many more left and realized that unless something happened, I couldn't be sure our family would be safe."
"You had to leave," Ash murmured softly feeling that tightness in his chest loosen.
"I had to leave," Red confirmed sadly, "It took until your mother and Sirius' wedding for me to hunt down every single one of those bastards that could possibly harm our family. By then...by then, it was too late for me to be apart of the family I'd dreamed of,"
"Dad..." Ash's heart hurt at that.
"But," Red smiled sadly at Ash, "That doesn't mean I don't love you, Ash. My pokemon and I...We've dreamed of raising you. Hell, my pokemon planned on having an entire team's worth of eggs ready for you. Had things worked out the way we wanted it, we would've raised you up with one hell of a start,"
Heart hurting and warming, Ash was glad when Vali hugged him tightly. He spoke softly, "Dad, you wanted me. You really wanted me?"
"Always," Red said forcefully with a dark look in his eye, "Anyone who says I don't is a damned liar,"
Going almost boneless as all the doubts he felt went away, Ash let out a low sob as the pokenav dropped from his fingers. Vali caught it quickly and murmured something to his father before quickly pulling him into her lap. He cuddled into her chest as she murmured, "I gotcha, Little brother. I gotcha. Let it out."
Sobbing as the sheer relief rushed over him, Ash cried his heart out.
Unnoticed by the humans and pokemon within the clearing, Ash's aura brightened considerably as the almost soul deep doubts that had lingered within him were dispersed. Within his bag, the feather gifted to him by great Ho-oh brightened and pulsed merrily for a few moments making a shadowy form that lingered near the edges of Yellow's property flinch back a bit. Red and black eyes narrowed on the boy's form as a low chitter of annoyance echoed through the air, it was cut off a moment later with a yelp as a pale hand grasped a large tendril of shadows attached to those eyes.
Jerking it back, Xen spoke with a deep frown, "Marshadow, you know the rules. You are to test the boy, but not outright harm him."
"But Xen!" The little ghost squeaked trying to shake itself free of the practically immortal human, "That child has done little to show he's worthy of Master Ho-Oh's feather! Even that Fire Bear is more worthy and she's a damn dog,"
Xen snorted a bit at how Vali was being described by the little Legendary. Shaking his head, he walked deeper into the Viridian forest away from where Vali and her brothers were staying with the Dex Holder of Healing. He only released the little shadow who still had much growing to do once they'd gone a few miles and stared down at Marshadow. He dearly missed the older Marshadow that once walked beside him, but like many ghosts, it too had decided to venture past the veil of distortion to see what else the eves of creation offered. Even Giratina would one day do so and Xen would likely walk with his master during that time, he wondered what it would be like and perhaps they might finally meet their ends together though it was a long time off as Giratina had quite a long time before they even wished to mate or hatch a replacement.
Shaking those thoughts from his mind, Xen peered down at Marshadow who was attempting to complain at him and snapped his fingers creating large ropes of ghostly energy to form around the shadowy pokemon. Marshadow squeaked in surprise and struggled against the ropes for a long moment before falling against the ground with a whine. Shaking his head, he spoke, "You were given a task, Little Shadow. Just as we all are when it comes to that boy."
"But-" Marshadow whined at him.
"Do you really think you're the only one who loathes this?" Xen felt the faintest bit of bitterness rear up and knew it was mostly due to his closeness with Vali that had caused that feeling, "To allow a child that is barely even a teenager to attempt the Chosen's challenge, it sickens even me," He wouldn't have cared had it not been for his meeting with Vali and regaining these damn human emotions, "But we have a duty as given by not only Ho-oh, but Lords Giratina, Arceus, and Lady Mew! Do not assume you're above them, Marshadow,"
"I...I won't," Marshadow bowed their head.
Snapping his fingers again to dismiss the ropes, Xen turned and began to walk away, "I will be returning to Master Giratina's side for a bit. Do not attack the prospective or I will ensure you will regret it."
There was a shiver of fear behind him though Xen did not feel any pleasure in it, he had Gaia and Fran shadow him to his Master's side. After a long moment, they arrived to find Giratina floating with Shaymin nowhere in sight meaning the little hedgehog had gone to the otherworld to get some proper sunlight and enjoy some life energy for a bit. Giratina turned a crimson eye on him as the large dragon rumbled out, "Little Ghost, you have returned. I assume that dipshit hasn't completely fucked up it's mission."
"No, Master," Xen settled down on a broken pillar as the large dragon laid down not far away, "It was about to when I'd arrived. I had to scare some sense into it,"
Snorting softly, Giratina shook his large head, "Why Father and that bird brain deemed that damn dipshit worthy of testing the perspective chosen, I do not know. Even Mew's choice of freeing Hoopa from Kalos for a bit would have been safer than using that dipshit and the damn imp has been known to send humans to the fucking moon if given half a chance,"
Snickering a bit, Xen remembered how difficult that particular incident had been to clean up especially as the humans that had managed to be returned had been turned into Bramblin. Hearing a low grumble from his master, Xen cleared his throat, "I apologize, Master. I know that the humans are still blaming one another for that dis-"
"Of course they're blaming one another! How do two ships worth of people?" Giratina growled softly, "We are so lucky that just Paldea is still throwing up a damn stink about it and refusing to allow entrance into their borders. Has Osi's brat said anything about Kalos or that other Region...the one with that overly pompous knight king? Ya know, the one with those emo versions of Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno? Not to mention the other Trio,"
Snickering a bit at how Giratina was describing Galar's legends, Xen took a minute to remember what Vali had told him when they'd last talked a couple weeks back. It had been when she'd been on a ship heading for Hoenn, so they couldn't speak for long. But he'd gotten a bit of information from her, he nodded to himself as the information came running back to him. Looking at his master, he answered, "Vali informed me that Kalos has opened up it's borders while Galar is still taking some time to do so. It might be another year or two before they do so though Vali's boss, Lance, believes that it may happen sooner if he can speak more with his fellow champion."
Scoffing with an eyeroll, Giratina stood, "Humans speak too much. They need to be more like pokemon and solve their issues with battles. But it cannot be helped," He shook himself off and held out tendril towards Xen, "Continue your observations, Little Ghost. I am interested to see if this little one is our next Chosen as it has been far too long since I've shed scales within battle."
Nodding his head, Xen reached out to touch Giratina's tendril and shivered as a burst of coldness invaded his body for a moment. He closed his eyes and relished in the slight amount of power that worked its way through him. He spoke softly, "I will, Master. Until next time."
"Until then," Giratina rumbled before withdrawing his tendril as Xen opened his eyes.
Xen stayed where he was as Giratina flew off into the distance. When he finally stood, Gaia and Fran quickly joined him once more having left his side for a bit to join their other team mates for a bit. They once more headed to the otherworld and ventured to the Viridian forest as he wondered what the future would bring. Perhaps he would fight beside Vali in the coming chaos should her younger brother be the Chosen. It would be interesting to see how she fought both within that animal form and outside it.
Looking over Gary and Ash as the two played with Yellow's pokemon alongside some wild ones that had taken up residence with the Dex Holder, Vali spoke to the blonde beside her, "We'll be leaving in the morning."
"I figured," Yellow looked just a bit sad at that, "Do you ever wonder what it'd be like to stay in one place?"
Blinking a bit at that, Vali looked towards Yellow in surprised and tilted her head, "What do you mean?"
"I know you have a room for yourself at Delia's and an apartment in the Plateau," Yellow's cheeks flushed a bit, "But... with Lance being the way he is, don't you just want a place to get away from it all? A place to stay where no one save for you and your pokemon can just be there together existing?"
Hesitating a bit, Vali admitted softly, "I do have something like that," Yellow looked at her in surprise and she looked away from the blonde with a slight flush coating her cheeks, "We got it when I'd turned seventeen. I got pissed off after I'd come back to the Plateau after a really hard mission pretty badly cut up and just wanting to crash once everyone was taken care of. I pretty much told everyone to fuck off in varying ways though tried not to be too impolite, but apparently someone forgot to inform a certain champion."
"What happened?" Yellow asked making Vali's blush deepen.
"I got out of the shower and found him in my fucking bedroom," Vali saw Yellow cover her mouth and snorted at the flush coating Yellow's cheeks, "Fucker tried to say he was 'concerned' about my well being," She used air quotes, "I could smell the damn alcohol on his breath and knew he'd been drinking his ass off. I had Eli throw him out of my room and grab me clothes before we went dark for a few days with Surge. Went house hunting during that time while Lance and Steven alongside a few others were being fended off, we bought a nice place that's pretty secluded off the beaten path by Blackthorn,"
"Steven Stone came looking for you?" Yellow raised an eyebrow at her.
"Came to do 'peace talks' with Lance," Vali shook her head, "In reality, they're just battling and agreeing on easy bullshit since neither of our countries are about to go to war. Lance lied to him about why I'd 'gone' missing. The minute Surge told him the real reason had Steven kicking Lance's ass from one end of a battlefield to another. I have the video save somewhere,"
Yellow snickered softly and shook her head, "I'd say that I can't believe that boy actually had the balls to do that, but..."
"I swear half the shit Lance does..." Vali mimed strangling him, "I love him to death, but some days..."
Yellow made a soft sound earning a raised eyebrow from Vali. The blonde cleared her throat, "Vali...I have a small question if you don't mind me asking," Vali waved a hand to continue, "Who are you with? No one knows not even among us Dex Holders."
Shaking her head softly, Vali looked towards the sky with sad smile on her face, "No one. The few times I've tried to be with someone it's never truly worked out. At this point, I've pretty much settled for being fuck buddies with the few people that I've actively admitted feelings for," She sighed deeply and ran a hand through her hair, "Doesn't help that I'm a dense person apparently."
"Dense...person...?" Yellow murmured slowly.
"Apparently," Vali let out a low laugh, "Thia, my partner of some regularity, pointed it out to me. I don't recognize when someone is flirting with me. Hell, it took us actually kissing for me to realize she liked me,"
"That dense? Damn," Yellow shook her head, "I never realized considering how playful you are,"
"There is having a playful nature and being flirty, Dearest," Vali shook her head lightly before looking back down at the boys, "But considering how busy I am, it's probably for the best that no one wants to date me. After all, how in the world would I find the time? Hell, considering what's going on and what might be at stake, I probably shouldn't date anyone right now,"
"Vali..." Yellow place a hand on Vali's shoulder.
"If it does come, I'll accept it," Vali glanced at Yellow, "But for now...for now," She nodded towards Ash and Gary who had moved onto training their pokemon, "I need to focus on them. I need to ensure they're ready for what's coming,"
But that didn't mean a part of Vali wasn't aching the same thing Sirius and Delia had, she longed for that same closeness every time she'd pass a couple walking through the streets. Even when spending time with Cynthia, it didn't hold the spark that she craved and a part of her blamed the pokemon that laid within her very soul. It craved and longed for something that she didn't know.
