Mystic Falls High School
Aaron stifled another yawn, but couldn't hide the dark circles under his eyes today.
Nessie tried to talk to him in class during silent reading.
"Vanessa, turn around please," the teacher said.
Nessie's fair cheeks burned at the mild reprimand. She didn't want to get in trouble, who knows what her dad would do if she got a detention.
"Sorry," Nessie uttered and turned around. She already had read the entire chapter, but apparently no one else did. Or even tried to.
As the teacher was yelling at some big, dumb jock named Luffy or Lumpy, she wasn't sure which, she turned to Aaron again.
"What's with you today? You look like shit," Nessie hissed.
Aaron did yawn this time.
"I couldn't sleep," Aaron whispered. "I think there is something wrong at the house."
Nessie's multicolored eyes widened, "What? Do you need to get my dad involved. He's been real busy at work, but I think he's mostly fawning after Sheriff Forbes. But I can talk to him if you want?"
Aaron considered this. "Maybe. Could he do a background check on someone?"
"Who?" Nessie demanded, but then the teacher was talking.
"That new horse lady. Hayley," Aaron replied. "Something is going on. She's up at all hours lurking around and always getting calls. I told them, but no one believes me."
"Ah, my dad probably wouldn't look into it without cause, but I might have hacked his computer...," Nessie grinned. George Singerman knew his daughter was smart, but didn't realize how easily she could override parental controls on her devices. She told him he needed to get more tech savvy, but he said he was too busy.
"Since y'all can't read quietly, maybe we oughta have a pop quiz?" the woman announced.
Most of the class groaned, but Nessie was excited. She loved tests. She winked at Aaron with her green eye and got her pencil ready.
Aaron cursed, he hadn't read a word, he had too much on his mind. But if Nessie could help, that would be something.
Aaron fought to ignore the pit of worry in his stomach and focus. But Sage was acting more as a real mom to him everyday. And Finn was acting like a real dad, asking him to help him do things and checking to see how he was doing in his classes. If you failed a quiz in this class, you had to get it signed at home. Shit, this wasn't good.
Aaron realized that Nessie was tilting her paper so he could see her answers. Aaron breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe the day was looking up.
Mikaelson Mansion
Lunch
"There, gently. You got it. He likes that," Hayley complimented. She was letting the kids help her groom Azul. Damon had just ridden him.
"Did you have a horse when you were little, Miss Hayley?" Julian asked.
Hayley frowned, flipping her brown ponytail.
"Um, no. Not unless I went to school when I was older," Hayley answered, patting the small boy on the shoulder. She didn't want to say that her memories were disjointed, fragmented. She remembered almost nothing. "That's right, Julian. You are doing a great job."
Julian beamed, "I know. Azul told me. He really likes you."
Hayley blinked, "Yes, horses have a way of communicating with us through their body language."
Julian paused, "No, I mean Azul told me he likes it. He would like his carrot now."
Hayley opened her mouth to question the boy more when Elijah walked in.
"Children, it's time for your lunch and then some lessons," Elijah interrupted. "Leave Miss Hayley in peace."
Elijah pulled out some workbooks for the children to start learning the basics. Enzo volunteered to help. It may have been a way for him to get out of his own lessons with Elijah, but the Original gladly took him up on his offer. To teach was to twice learn, he had quipped to Enzo.
Hayley laughed, "No, they have been a big help, but I am hearing Azul wants his snack. Isn't that right, Julian?"
Julian nodded, "Yes, Daddy she doesn't believe that he can talk to me. Tell her!"
Elijah picked up his son. "Oh, I will. Now, you run to the house. Enzo has your books in the kitchen. He said if you behave, he'll take you all into town with him later."
"To get ice cream?" Indy inquired.
"I think he has to go to the florist, but maybe we can see about the ice cream. Now, thank Miss Hayley and go," Elijah said.
Ava shyly hugged Hayley, "Thank you. How come the dogs like to stay here?"
Andrei, the German Shepherd and Ioana, the collie mix, barely seemed to want to leave Hayley's side. They still slept in the children's room at night, but in the day they prefer hanging out near the stables.
"I think they like Azul a whole lot," Hayley replied.
Julian smirked, "They like you, too! They are happy here, but they like all of us."
"Yes, they do, buddy," Elijah cut in. "Now, I am wondering which one of you can make it to the house first..."
The children took off in a cloud of dust, racing toward the large mansion. It was an overcast day, with rain threatening.
Hayley patted Azul and then walked to the door to watch them.
"I'm impressed. They are lucky to have such a nice family," Hayley mused.
Elijah guffawed and then followed her gaze, saying, "Yesterday, they were fighting and beating the hell out of each other. Today, they are best friends again. But it is us who are fortunate. Children are so precious. It breaks my heart that they were ever mistreated."
"You're a wonderful father," Hayley remarked, putting a hand on the ancient vampire.
Elijah turned and looked at the lovely young werewolf.
"You flatter me," Elijah said. "I have a lot of help. And this isn't the first child I've helped raise."
"Oh?" Hayley asked in surprise.
"Yes, my brother Kol and our little sister Rebekah have always been a handful. Don't get me started about Niklaus. He can be worse than a cranky toddler on his best day," Elijah ruminated. He was pleased that Niklaus' people had captured Aurora, but did Niklaus need gloat so freely? He thought Finn ought to give him another round of the ruler.
"Did you need something?" Hayley inquired after a moment.
"Oh yes, forgive me. My mind is elsewhere today," Elijah apologized. "Any update on the status of the ponies? For the children?"
"Yes, it will be a few more weeks," Hayley confirmed. "They aren't quite old enough to be weaned, but they are yours. So, Julian, and the animal talking? Is that a thing?"
Elijah nodded, "Indeed, it is. All three of those children are part witch. It is rare for powers to manifest in ones so young, but Julian can speak with animals."
"That's amazing," Hayley breathed in awe.
"You have a remarkable talent yourself with animals," Elijah countered, he patted Azul's sleek rump. "You are aware of that, are you not, Miss Hayley?"
Hayley smiled at his formality.
"Oh no, I just love them. That's all. I really don't have any special talents," Hayley said. "Maybe just on the full moon."
Elijah shook his head. "That's not true. You are special and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You know, you need not spend all day in here. Why don't you take a break for lunch. I made a chopped salad."
"I have no idea what that is," Hayley chuckled.
"Come, I will show you," Elijah said, offering his arm. "It is iceberg lettuce, salami, cheese, and marinated garbanzo beans."
"Oh, sounds good," Hayley confirmed. She was starving.
"And I make my own dressing. That, my lady, is top secret," Elijah effused. "I could tell you but-."
"Then, you'd have to kill me!" Hayley finished.
Elijah stopped short. "No, never, but I might have to swear you to silence!"
"Lead on," Hayley said.
Elijah noticed that the dogs trotted after them into the yard. Yes, she was very special indeed.
Mystic Falls High School
Caroline was freaking out. Tyler tried to get her calmed down, but she said she had a million things to do before the dance.
Matt was laughing after she snapped at Tyler to fuck off for the third time.
"Dude, leave her alone!" Matt begged. "She's going to kick your ass if you don't get off her case. Caroline always gets bitchy before an event."
"Yes, but before she wasn't a damn vampire," Tyler hissed. "She could snap."
Matt took a guzzle of his soda and then took a big bite of his sandwich. Mason was generous with lunch money and the boys could order whatever they wanted at home for groceries. He had never eaten so heartily. Well, unless he was sneaking food at the Grill.
"Then, go get Stefan," Matt tried, with his mouth full of corned beef.
"What?" Tyler demanded.
"Go. Get. Stefan!" Matt repeated, after swallowing.
"Yeah, that's not a bad idea," Tyler admitted. Matt had been driving him crazy. They had a bunch of classes together and now that they were sharing a bedroom at home, he never got away from him.
Tyler scanned the outside for the blonde vampire. He finally spotted him chatting with Kol Mikaelson under the trees. Tyler rolled his eyes, he used to make fun of the geeks who were outcasts, like Jeremy, who hung out in the grass with the other losers. Tyler caught sight of Jeremy a distance away, lounging on the grass with Annabelle. How did that dude get a girl? She was a weird chick, but sorta hot, in their weird chick way.
Tyler abandoned his food, getting up.
Lumpy hollered, "Ty, can I eat this, man?"
"Yeah, whatever," Tyler said, waving him off. Tyler couldn't even eat today. He was too wound up.
Tyler had to bite his tongue when a couple of other freaks passed him. Band kids. He missed messing with them. They were easy prey, but no, he had to talk to Stefan before Caroline flipped out.
And he couldn't get caught bullying other kids again.
They had a game tonight and he was one step from getting tossed off the team or worse...Yeah, his Uncle Mason would whoop his ass if he got a call home. But did Mason even care about him anymore? Maybe he wouldn't even say a word?
Tyler concentrated on making it to that big tree. He ruminated on the fact that Mason hadn't been around much. They were going to go to a game in the city over the weekend, but then some crap happened and he cancelled. Tyler suspected it was Katherine who was the "crisis." It was just like his parents all over again. Tyler was just an afterthought.
"Whoa, someone is about to go mad?" Kol quipped. The fury was pouring off the young werewolf in waves.
"Fuck you, Kol," Tyler hissed. "I'm just here to talk to Stefan."
"Alright then, mate," Kol said tightly. "I'll just be off. Stefan, thanks for the advice."
Tyler scowled at the jaunty vampire. He didn't know what girls saw in that guy. He was like a million years old!
"Bye," Tyler said sarcastically.
Kol stood and brushed off his slacks.
"If I was you, I'd watch my bloody tongue," Kol hissed. "A little pup like you can get smacked in the nose, if he gets too...peppy."
"Dude, take a hike," Tyler scoffed.
Kol gave Stefan a wave goodbye and went off to find his date. Stefan had given him some good advice and he thought he'd have a decent costume.
Stefan also brushed himself off and stood.
"Not smart, man, to provoke him," Stefan said. "And he's a pretty cool guy, actually."
"Yeah, you say that about all the mass murderers in town," Tyler retorted.
Stefan put his arms up. "Whoa, Ty, man. Calm down. Tell me what's going on!"
Tyler sighed loudly. "Sorry, Stefan. It's Caroline. She's being a total, raging bitch!"
Stefan's eyes got wide. "You didn't just call a lady a bitch, did you?"
"But I need your help!" Tyler protested.
Stefan grabbed Tyler by the arm.
"Oh, you need my help alright, but not in the way you think," Stefan growled. He marched Tyler into the school. Tyler was shocked at the strength of the vampire, he stumbled a few times, but Stefan just dragged him along.
"W-Where are w-we going?" Tyler shrieked.
"Ric's room. He doesn't have a class now. I'm sure he won't mind the intrusion once I explain how you are behaving. Or rather, misbehaving," Stefan fumed.
"Hey, man, come on," Tyler protested. "You need to be talking to her, not me!"
"I checked in with Caroline earlier. Yeah, she's stressed, but handling it," Stefan confirmed. "You are her problem. She mentioned that you have been rude and aggressive."
Stefan knocked tersely on Ric's door and found it unlocked and vacant. He pushed Tyler into the empty room and locked the door. He sent Ric a quick text saying that he was in there with Tyler. He locked the door.
Tyler balled his fists up, trying not to explode. He was seeing red.
"Now, you wanna tell me what's going on, Lockwood?" Stefan asked cooly, leaning up against Ric's desk.
"No, it's now of your business," Tyler ranted. "And I'm going to kill Matt for suggesting I come to your abusive ass for help!"
"Abusive? You are the bully around here. I am just trying to help. Tyler, you can't go around this angry and being a dick to people. Do you realize what Kol could do to you? You are stirring a hornet's nest here," Stefan said in a compassionate tone.
"I'm not afraid of him," Tyler spat.
"Yeah, well, maybe you should be. Now, talk or I'm getting out the paddle," Stefan said sternly.
"Paddle? You have no right!" Tyler erupted, now suddenly realizing his position. He could fight, but like Caroline, Stefan was stronger. Tyler fingered the moonlight ring on his finger. There was one way he could get out of this without talking or getting spanked.
"Don't even think of it!" Stefan warned.
With the moonlight ring, Tyler could now turn at will into his werewolf side. He hadn't done it before as turning broke every bone in his body, but maybe this was worth it?
Stefan vamped to Tyler and pocketed his ring before he could make the choice.
"Hey, fucker! That's my ring," Tyler shouted.
Stefan grabbed Tyler's bicep and turned him, laying down a flurry of hard smacks on his backside.
Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
"You prick! That hurt," Tyler whined, cradling his throbbing behind.
"Yes, well, it's going to hurt more. Now, take down your pants and bare your butt. Lean over Ric's desk. I'm getting the paddle," Stefan said firmly.
"No! Fuck, come on, Stefan. I'm sorry," Tyler bellowed.
"Keep your voice down. Now, obey me or I'm going to call your uncle right now," Stefan said. In truth, he didn't have the mayor on speed dial. But an idea popped into his head. "Or I could call Caroline to come hold you down. I'm sure she wouldn't disagree that you need a bit of discipline."
Tyler's face flamed at his girlfriend seeing him spanked and even helping. Yeah, he was sure she would help after the way he had been snarking at her.
"Fuck," Tyler cursed, unbuttoning his jeans. "I hate you. I came to you for fucking help!"
"And I am helping you," Stefan called from Ric's closet. He had to dig to find the old school paddle. Kol had been awfully sore after Ric gave him a taste of it, so Stefan thought it might settle down Tyler. He hoped.
Tyler was standing there defiantly with his jeans down, boxer briefs up.
"I hate that freaking thing," Tyler hissed.
"Yeah, you know when I went to school here before there was a paddle hanging on plenty of chalkboards, when there were chalkboards. There were still asshole kids, but they knew where the line was, unlike you. I don't really care for these whiteboards myself...," Stefan drawled.
"Who cares? Let's get this over with!" Tyler demanded, chucking down his underpants and taking position over the desk. He gripped it so hard that his knuckles turned white.
Stefan examined the flat wooden board. Holes were drilled into it and it looked old. It was lighter than he expected and perfect for what he had planned.
Stefan tapped the flat side on Tyler's lily white, but well-muscled behind.
"Shit," he heard Tyler say.
"Yeah, now you keep your hands there and don't move," Stefan warned. "You don't have to count. I always hated that."
Pop!
Stefan cracked the paddle down across both of Tyler's trembling cheeks.
"Stop clenching," Stefan ordered. Tyler grunted and forced himself to try to relax. "I don't know if Ric has this coated with wolfsbane, but I don't want to bruise your ass. Well, not too much."
Pop!
Stefan was swatting firmly, but not as hard as he could. In fact, he had more experience on the other end of Lexi's hair brush rather than doing the spanking. He knew Tyler would heal, but he didn't want to go overboard. He lowered his swing below the first two across Tyler's crease.
Pop!
"Arggggghhhhh!" Tyler roared, popping up and grasping his behind.
"Back down or I'm dialing your girl. The one you called a bitch," Stefan chided.
Reluctantly, Tyler go back in position, wiping rogue tears off his face. No, he would't give Stefan the satisfaction of crying. Fuck him.
Pop! Pop! Pop!
After three stringers in the same spot across the fullest part of Tyler's bottom, he howled.
"S-Stef, I-I'm f-fucking sorry," Tyler wept.
"I know, buddy. But you gotta talk this out. Now, what's going on?" Stefan said, tapping the paddle lightly across Tyler's now red butt.
"Idon'tknow," Tyler blubbered.
"Fine," Stefan replied.
Pop! Pop! Pop!
Tyler shifted his feet and wailed as he hung onto the desk for dear life. His backside was burned, the pain settling deep into his muscles. Yeah, he remembered, Ric had coated the paddle in wolfsbane.
Stefan was about to give Tyler another good lick when Ric unlocked the door with the key.
"Jesus, I could hear that down the hallway. It's a good thing half the teachers on this floor are at lunch or deaf," Ric griped. He glanced at Tyler's backside. "Whoa, what did he do?"
Stefan handed the paddle to Ric.
"He called Caroline a bitch," Stefan said grimly. "He won't talk to me, but maybe you can get through to him. I'm going to go see if she needs some actual help with the dance."
Tyler was sniffling over the desk.
"D-Don't tell h-her," Tyler begged.
Stefan sighed himself and said, "Okay, but I'll let you do that later when you apologize. Ric, Tyler, I'll see you guys later."
Stefan walked out and Ric locked the door.
"You really did that? Called Caroline that name?" Ric prodded, hefting the paddle.
"Not to her f-face," Tyler said weakly.
"Your behind is getting pretty red, but I think a couple more might do you some good," Ric said.
He cracked the paddle down hard.
Thwack!
"OWWWWW!" Tyler yelped, raising his head and lifting his right foot.
"Two more should do it," Ric said. "Foot down. Push that butt out."
Tyler obeyed, wiping his eyes and then clasping the desk again.
Thwack!
"You gonna tell me what the hell is going on?" Ric wondered.
"YES! Y-YES, sir!" Tyler promised.
"Good," Ric said, raising the paddle higher. He slammed it down firmly.
THWACK!
"Ohmygod," Tyler said, collapsing over the desk in sobs.
Ric put the paddle away and grabbed some Kneenex for the crying teen.
"Here, come on. The bell is going to ring. Let's get you up," Ric encouraged.
"I c-can't," Tyler sniffled.
Ric handed Tyler the tissues and let him dab his eyes and blow his nose and then helped him up.
"I think you better unless you want my next hour to see that red behind," Ric advised.
Tyler groaned as he got up and pulled up his pants.
"Come on, Tyler. Talk to me. What's going on?" Ric asked tenderly, pulling the boy into a hug.
Tyler let Ric hold him a minute.
"It's everything. Since I became a werewolf again when I snapped Care's neck, it's coming back. The anger...," Tyler confessed. "My uncle is always with that Katherine or at work. Care and I can't be alone because her mom is banging some deputy at their house. And Matt and I are sharing a room after the house flooded."
Ric thought he understood the problem.
"So you are horny, pissed at your uncle, and Matt is driving you crazy?" Ric summed up.
Tyler looked up at the taller man in surprise.
"Yeah, I guess. And Caroline is so busy with this stupid dance. It's like all she cares about," Tyler complained.
Ric took a breath.
"I think you are real overwhelmed here. You know, I've heard that wolves need to hunt. Are you doing that?" Ric questioned.
"Shit! My moonlight ring! Stefan took it," Tyler said in a panic.
"You can get it back when you talk to him. It takes a lot for Stefan Salvatore to react like this. You know that Caroline is very special to him and he doesn't want to see her disrespected. You were basically asking for a licking. You get that, right?" Ric went on.
Tyler looked down. "I guess. It's just that I was ready to explode, but hunting is a good idea. I just have to make time for it. It would be cool if Uncle Mason would join me, though."
"Have you tried to talk to him?" Ric pressed.
"I hardly see him!" Tyler exploded.
Ric yanked Tyler's arm and smacked his behind three times.
Whack! Whack! Whack!
"OWWWIEEEE," Tyler cried out, starting to cry and holding his bottom.
"You need to mind your tongue, Tyler. We are not your enemies. Your own worst enemy is yourself. Now, I can reach out and talk to your uncle. He's a great guy, I met him at a meeting this week. But I think it would be best if you tried to tell him how you are feeling," Ric suggested. "And it's okay for you to tell Matt that you need some space."
"Okay," Tyler said, still rubbing his butt. He didn't know how he would navigate the hard seats for the rest of the day.
"What about Caroline?" Tyler grumbled.
"Just like Stefan said. You ask how you can help. If she says that she's got it. Back off, give her some space," Ric said. "Look, it's not easy to be in a relationship. It's give and take. But you also have to respect each other. I would never refer to Jenna as a..., well, I don't even want to repeat it. Now, is there anything else?"
Tyler bit his lip.
"I was kinda dick to Kol Mikaelson. That guy thinks he's all that. Girls are always staring at him and he's so arrogant. I can't stand him," Tyler admitted.
"Actually, I really don't see that. Kol seems a little out of his element here because he was in a coffin for the last century. How about giving him a break? You sound like you are jealous of the attention he is getting," Ric noted.
"I guess he was pretty cool when Care was at the Mikaelsons," Tyler recalled. "This is a me problem, isn't it?"
Ric put an arm around Tyler again.
"Hey, class is going to start. How about you go wash your face and then try to get yourself together. If you need a break, ask to come see me or we'll call your uncle together," Ric stated.
"But he'll be pissed that I got in trouble at school!" Tyler said anxiously.
"He's a wolf, too, Tyler. I think he'll understand. We all have bad days, but you just have to learn when you are getting triggered," Ric started. "And sometimes we need a little help getting back on track from those who love us. Even at my age."
"Yeah, but you don't get the paddle when you have a bad day," Tyler concluded as the end of lunch bell rang.
Ric gulped and didn't say that Jenna's hairbrush was bad enough.
"Um, true, but I still screw up. Now, you okay to head to class?" Ric said, putting a hand on Tyler's shoulder.
"Yeah, I think I am. I'll catch Caroline after next hour and Stefan...," Tyler offered.
"And Kol?" Ric smiled.
"Ugh, I don't know. Can I play that one by ear?" Tyler asked.
"Yeah, but he's not an enemy you need to make. We're all on the same side here," Ric reminded him. "Now, get going."
Ric sent Tyler off with another light swat to the seat of his pants. He knew the boy would heal fast, but Tyler smirked and said thanks. He did feel better somehow, despite the raw stinging on his backside.
Ric couldn't help but feel a wave of sympathy. He remembered that he still had those smokes and flask in his desk. He quickly emptied them into his bag as his next class trickled in from lunch. Ric wanted to sneak a smoke with Dorian in that storage unit. But then he recalled that Dorian had taken off with Emma. Ric tried to follow the advice he gave Tyler. He'd call Jenna before his next class. He was struggling.
