Chapter 12
If anyone had told Uraraka after her first day at U-A, that by the end of her first year, she'd not only have been inside Bakugo's room but would one day be sitting down on his bed, kissing him, she would have laughed and called you crazy. She probably would have asked if they were feeling well and suggested they go see Recovery Girl because…Bakugo?! No freaking way!
And yet, that was exactly what was happening.
One minute she was laughing the next she felt his warm and surprisingly soft lips on hers.
Alarm bells were ringing in her head.
WARNING!
BAKUGO KATSUKI IS KISSING YOU!
I REPEAT.
BAKUGO KATSUKI, LORD EXPLOSION FUCKING MURDER HIMSELF, IS KISSING YOU!
Her body went stiff in surprise.
Before she could even react, however, she felt him pull back.
Uraraka sat in a daze. Her fingers touched her lip gingerly. She could still feel the ghost of Bakugo's lips lingering on them, making her lips tingle.
She slowly turned to face Bakugo. He looked even more confused than she did.
Uraraka got up from the bed, the book on her lap falling gently to the floor and landing with a small thud but neither seemed to notice.
While Uraraka was still too stunned to form any coherent thought, Bakugo's brain was shouting at him. Fuck! Fuck! You didn't even ask...if you could...you...you just...attacked her!
"Uraraka...I'm so..." He used her name for the first time she could remember. What if she freaked out on him? Shit. He had just wanted to...
Uraraka's tittering laugh cut off his train of thought, dragging his full attention back to the girl standing next to him.
Uraraka said nothing as she turned toward Bakugo. They stared at each other before Uraraka tried opening her lips to try and say something but nothing came out. She scratched the top of her head in confusion, her brows furrowed as she nibbled on her bottom lip.
"Hmm." She managed, before turning on her heels and walking towards the bedroom door.
Bakugo stood up in a flash, unsure if he should stop her or let her go.
"I'm...I'm going back to the dance." She said, her voice distant.
"Ok," Bakugo responded simply, unsure of what else to do at that moment.
Bakugo saw her leave his room, closing the door behind her. He hadn't realized he had been holding his breath until he heard the faint ding of the elevator.
Exhaling, he sat back down on his bed.
What the fuck just happened?
A nauseating feeling washed over him. Worse than acknowledging the fact that he had just fucking kissed one of his classmates, was her reaction. Or better, lack thereof.
He would've preferred her screaming at him. He could handle screaming. But she laughed and then just left. Bakugo couldn't tell what she was thinking and for the first time in a long time, his mind was drawing a blank.
Bakugo took a deep breath before sitting back down on his bed.
Well, at least that's done with. He thought quietly.
He began to lie down when his shoe nudged something small. Instinctively, he looked down and groaned. "You have got to be fucking kidding me!"
After probably one of the most mortifying 24 hours of his entire life...he still had her stupid book.
"Grrraah!"'
Uraraka arrived at her room thoroughly exhausted from the night.
After leaving Bakugo's room, Uraraka made her way back to the dance and found a very concerned Mina outside the hallway leading up to the school's auditorium. She immediately began to apologize but Uraraka waved her off. "I'm fine Mina, I just needed some fresh air." She mustered up a genuine smile for her friend before leading the way back inside the dance, "Come on." Mina followed after her making promises to never do something like that again to which Uraraka responded by laughing and saying that it was fine.
Because well it was fine. In the end, it wasn't really that big of a deal. Right? Her friends were teasing them for sure but it was all in good fun.
So what if she and Bakugo had kissed, or well he kissed her, but still, nothing to freak out about, right?
People kissed all the time.
Everything was fine.
"Oh, I love this song!" Uraraka exclaimed as she and Mina made their way inside, cutting off any further questions from the acid-quirk user. Mina gave Uraraka a quick once over before smiling and nodding at her friend. "Let's go dance then!" She said, looping her arm in Uraraka's and making her way toward the dance floor.
Uraraka had managed to spend the rest of the night dancing and laughing with her friends. Thoughts of dirty novels and loud blondes with amazingly soft lips nowhere to be found. Mostly.
About an hour in, Uraraka became aware that he had also returned to the dance.
Not that she was looking for him.
She had just overheard her classmates announce his return.
That's all.
Thankfully, Uraraka must have exceeded her "awkward teenage encounters" quota for the night, because she was successful in avoiding him for the rest of the dance.
Tsu was the first to announce that she would be calling it a night as she still needed to pack her stuff for the break and it was getting late. Uraraka offered to walk back with her. She needed to pack as well, and to be honest, she also needed some time alone to think about everything that had occurred in the last couple of hours.
Tsu and Uraraka walked back towards the dorms chatting comfortably about the dance and what they were looking forward to doing during their break. Their last real vacation for a while. It somehow felt like they had to make this one worth it.
By the time she waved to Tsu as she got off the elevator on her floor, Uraraka was actually feeling cheerful.
Uraraka started to remove her hairpins and began to do a mental checklist as she walked towards her room - pack her bags, take off makeup, get ready for bed, and completely overthink the last couple of hours until she was all riled up.
Sounds like the perfect plan, she sighed to herself as she approached her door.
Uraraka was finally settling down from the night's events when her heart went into overdrive once more when she noticed what was sitting in the hallway in front of her door.
"My book!" She squeaked, picking it up in a hurry and shuffling into her room, locking the door behind her.
Uraraka placed the book on her nightstand, before taking off her heels and undoing her braid. Grabbing a makeup wipe, Uraraka sat down on her bed and began wiping one eye while the other stared at the book.
How could something so small be giving her so much trouble?!
Once she was done wiping off her make-up, she laid down on her bed and stared up at her ceiling.
Her room was quiet. The only light in her room came from the night sky shining through her window.
Bakugo Katsuki had kissed her.
He kissed her.
Had she liked it?
She hadn't hated it...
Uraraka grabbed a pillow and screamed into it.
She sat back up and turned towards her mirror and ran a finger across her lips.
If she thought about it hard enough she could still remember how it felt. A slight blush formed on her cheeks at the thought.
He was really warm…and he smelled…like cookies. Her blush deepened.
Bakugo Katsuki had kissed her!
A nervous laugh bubbled out of her.
This was insanity.
It's not that she didn't find him attractive. Anyone with eyes could see how damn hot he was. But he was also loud and rude and downright annoying at times. Especially when he was calling her Cheeks.
But…her brain interceded.
He had calmed down significantly. He had grown. He was willing to work as a team now, even though he still called everyone extras and was aggressive about it. He tried and he had shown progress.
Uraraka had noticed all this but somehow had never actually noticed him. Not in the way she was now. After the whole Deku situation, she vowed not to let her feelings distract her from her goals ever again. She would avoid any and all romantic feelings for the remainder of her time at U.A.
Romantic?! She didn't have romantic feelings for the blonde!
It was just a kiss.
You're overthinking this Ochako! She gently scolded herself.
"It's not that big of a deal." She told herself for the hundredth time.
But this time she'd prove it.
Uraraka grabbed her phone and searched through her contacts. After the summer training camp incident, all the students in 1-A had been required to have each other's phone numbers in case of an emergency. In true fashion, Bakugo had barked that he refused to give his information to a bunch of extras. Midnight-sensei could be pretty persuasive though, especially when she put him to sleep and had Kirishima give his number out to the rest of the class.
She was going to thank him for returning her book like she would any of her other classmates.
She tapped on his contact info, hit the message button, and began typing.
Uraraka Ochako: Thank you for giving my book back.
Send.
There. Piece of cake.
Immediately a sense of dread washed over her.
Oh no! What had she done? She shouldn't have texted him. What had she been thinking?!
Uraraka looked at the phone in a mild state of panic and read through her message.
To top it off, she came across as rude.
A happy face. Just add a happy face and then it'll all be fine. A casual happy face and all of this will be behind both of them.
Uraraka Ochako: ;)
Send.
Uraraka looked down at her phone once more.
"OH MY GOD NO!"
Un-send! Un-send! How do I un-send?!
Uraraka was more than mildly panicking now.
She was about to type out an explanation when she saw the three little dots inside a bubble pop up. Three little dots indicating the person on the opposite end of the message thread was typing a response.
Uraraka's heart dropped down to her stomach.
She stared intensely at those three little dots, heart pounding in her chest.
The dots disappeared.
Oh, thank God! Uraraka thought, feeling relieved before anxiety gripped her intestines once more as the three dots appeared again.
Her heart clenched in anticipation.
What was he going to say?
The three dots disappeared.
Uraraka began freaking out.
This is bad.
How do I explain this? And why was this so mortifying?!
She was about to begin typing her explanation again when her phone rang.
She dropped her phone quicker than if it had turned to fire in her hands.
"Uraraka?" A disembodied voice came from her floor. It sounded low and very far away.
Uraraka stared down at her phone blankly.
"Uraraka?"
...
"CHEEKS!? YOU THERE?! HELLO?!"
