After parting ways with Master Yoda, Obi-Wan and R4 made a beeline for the Jedi's personal quarters.

Master, R4 asked as they entered, what exactly is so important that you couldn't leave without it?

"Something that saved my life years ago," he replied as he began digging through an old trunk in the corner. R4 watched curiously as he tossed aside a few credits, a couple of training remotes, and several other random bits of junk before finally pulling out a familiar looking device.

A lightsaber?

"Yes. This was the weapon of my late master, Qui-Gon Jinn. I've kept it all these years as a memento of our time together."

Late…what happened to him?

"He was slain by the Sith lord, Darth Maul, during the battle of Naboo."

I'm sorry…

"It's all right. He's one with the force now. What's past is past. Right now, we must focus on the here and-"

"Captain!;" a clone suddenly appeared in the doorway. "Have you found anything of note, sir?"

"Indeed;" Obi-Wan seamlessly fell back into his clone impression. "Think they'll let me keep it?;" He asked while igniting Qui-Gon's saber.

"Who knows;" the trooper replied, "I hear the emperor plans to outlaw those weapons, but he also plans to grant them to special individuals."

"Of course;" he paused for a moment, "Did you need something, soldier?"

"We've finished carrying out your previous orders, sir. What shall we do now?"

"The emperor has yet to contact me again. For now, just guard the temple courtyards."

"Yes sir!;" The trooper saluted before marching off to regroup with the others.

That was a close one.

"Yes it was. R4, I have a favor to ask of you."

Shoot.

"I'd like you to hang on to this, keep it save for me.;" Obi-Wan said as he handed R4 the now deactivated lightsaber.

Are you sure?

"Absolutely. You have always been a competent unit, and I trust you to safeguard this most cherished possession of mine."

I'll do the best I can, Master.; R4 said as she took the Jedi weapon into her fine grasping arm and hid it away inside her chassis.

"And that's why I trust you to do this. The very fact that you're willing to give it your all is reason enough to put my faith in you."

Well then, I won't let you down.

"Thank you, my friend. You've no idea how much this means to me. Now, we'd better get going. I have a bad feeling that Padme might be planning something particularly risky. We must warn her before it's too late."

A/N: Sorry again for the long wait. This chapter is certainly a shorter one, but I wanted to set up this chekhov's gun for later. Here's to hoping this can hold over anyone who actually reads this story(IDK who all does).
