After making their way through the forest, Chara and Frisk worked together to get past the light absorbing dark crystals. Chara waited by the first lantern while Frisk ran to the next. As Chara made her way to the third lantern, Frisk would relight the one she stood next to when it started to get hard to see.

When they got past the darkening crystal room and sloshed through some thigh high water, it began to get darker and darker. Chara could only see the bright blue glow of an echo flower in the distance. Chara and Frisk headed toward the flower, quickly finding dry ground as they got closer.

When they got close enough to touch, Chara could hear glowing flower whispering something.

"Behind you."

Chara felt a chill run down her spine at hearing those words. Slowly, she turned around with Frisk as their surroundings lit up. Standing behind them, was Undyne in her shiny metal armor. Now that they were face to face, Chara noticed that with her new height, her eye level was at Undyne's shoulders.

As she stood in front of them, Undyne began to speak. "Seven. Seven human souls. With the power of seven human souls, our king, King Asgore Dreemurr, will become a god. With that power, Asgore can finally shatter the barrier. He will finally take the surface back from humanity and give them back the suffering and pain we have endured." She paused as she continued to stare them down. "Understand, my fellow monster? I thought that human was holding you hostage when I saw them pulling you along whenever I showed up. I apologize if I had hit you with any of my spears, I was aiming for the human."

Chara felt her muscles tense as Undyne took a knee before removing her helmet. "Now, I don't know what kind of monster you are but judging by your looks you must still be young. Whatever that human has told you, we can't be friends with them. The humans have been our enemies ever since they took away our only hope of getting out of the Underground. So come to me kiddo and I'll protect you from that evil human." Undyne offered her hand.

Chara glanced at Undyne's hand and shook her head. "No."

For a few moments Undyne looked surprised, then confused, then infuriated. "So, you're choosing to betray your own kind to help the humans." Undyne stood up, placing her helmet back on her head as she did so. "Fine then, after I take the human's soul, you will be captured, and I'll take you to the capital so the King can decide what to do with you."

Undyne summoned a spear in her hands and got into a charging stance, spear pointed forward. Chara pulled Frisk behind her, standing in the way of Undyne as she began to charge at the two of them. Chara's soul began to float out of her chest when suddenly, Monster Kid burst out of a patch of tall grass to her right.

"Unyne! I'll help you fight!" Undyne stopped dead in her tracks, spear just a few inches from skewering MK.

MK looked between Undyne and Chara and Frisk. "YO! You guys did it! Undyne is RIGHT in front of you! You've got front row seats to her fight!" MK looked between them again and frowned in confusion. "...wait. Who's she fighting?" Undyne grabbed MK by one of the small spikes on the back of his head and began to drag him away. "H-hey! You aren't going to tell my parents about this, are you?" With that they both disappeared down the rocky hall.

After a few tense moments, Frisk grabbed Chara's hand and started leading her down the hall. "Come on Chara, this way." She led them back into the pool of water and turned right around a corner. Following the pool, they passed many echo flowers, each one repeating the last wish that had been whispered to them.

Perhaps it was the cold water they were sloshing through, but Chara couldn't help but notice how warm Frisk's hand was in hers. Realizing this, Chara felt her heart skip a beat as she stared at the back of Frisk's head.

After rounding another corner, they quickly made their way toward a bridge that spanned over a deep chasm. But before they could reach the end of the bridge, Frisk stopped at hearing someone say "Yo!" behind them.

Chara winced before turning around with Frisk to see Monster Kid standing halfway across the bridge, staring after them.

"Yo, I know I'm not supposed to be here, but..." He said after closing the distance btween the three of them. "I wanna ask you two something. Man, I've never had to ask anyone this before. Umm... Yo..." He looked at Frisk. "You're a human, right?" He turned his attention to Chara. "And you're a monster helping the human, right? Haha." After a brief moment, Frisk nodded without saying a word. "Man! I knew it! ...well, I know it now, I mean... Undyne told me, um, 'Stay away from that human and especially away from that traitor.'" Chara flinched at hearing the word traitor. " So, like, ummm... I guess that makes us enemies or something. But I kinda stink at that, haha." Monster Kid paused before looking at Frisk. "Yo, say something mean so I can hate you?" Chara looked toward Frisk, who had a small, sad frown. Frisk shook her head no and Monster Kid frowned as well before turning to Chara. "What about you? Could you say something mean? Please?"

Chara was unsure of what to do, the LOVE in her soul compelling her to say the most hurtful things she could come up with. But she couldn't think of anything that could hurt him.

After racking her brain, she said the first thing that came to mind. "Your face is stupid."

Monster Kid raised an eyebrow. "Yo, that's your idea of something mean? My sister says that to me ALL THE TIME! Guess I have to do it, haha." Monster Kid took a deep breath. "Yo, I... I hate your guts."

Chara frowned at the poor attempt to say something hurtful. Chara glanced at Frisk who simply had a sad look on her face.

After several moments of awkward silence, Monster Kid sighed. "Man, I... I'm such a turd." He looked between the both of them. "I'm... I'm gonna go home now."

Monster Kid turned to leave but only took a few steps before he tripped and fell over the edge of the bridge, the front of his shirt catching on a branch.

"Yo, w-w-wait! Help! I tripped!" Monster Kid squeaked in terror as the branch holding him up began to creak.

Without even realizing what she was doing, Chara leapt forward, barely registering that Undyne had shown up at the other end of the bridge. In two strides Chara closed the distance between her and Monster Kid, diving forward she landed on her belly, knocking the air out of her lungs. Ignoring the pain in her ribs Chara reached down and grabbed Monster Kid by one of the boney spikes on the back of his head. Gritting her teeth, she pulled Monster Kid back up onto the bridge before flopping onto her back with a deep gasp.

As Chara laid on her back regaining her breath, a dialogue box appeared in front of her.

*Your LOVE has decreased!

As she closed the box and continued to get her breathing back under control, she could hear Monster Kid telling Undyne that she would have to go through him first to get to them.

Frisk appeared above her with her hand extended while in the background Chara could hear the clang of Undyne's armor getting further away.

"Are you alright?" Frisk asked as she pulled Chara back on her feet.

"I'm ok."

Behind her Monster Kid spoke up. "She's gone... Yo! You really saved my skin." Chara turned to face the small yellow monster. "Guess being enemies was just a nice thought." He laughed. "We'll just have to be friends instead."

After a few moments Chara nodded. "Alright, let's be friends then."

The young monster beamed as they shook on it, Chara with her hand and him with his head.

"Man, I should REALLY go home. I bet my parents are worried sick about me!" Monster Kid turned to leave but turned back around after only taking a few steps. "Later, dudes!" He then turned back around and took off back to Snowdin.

*Chara saved Monster Kid. You are filled with Determination.*
