I let out a long sigh as I stretch my arms above my head, wiping an eye as I continue to look over my newest research paper.

"Scientific Breakthrough: The 18th Pokemon type:
The past one hundred years or so has been a wondrous age of change for the pokemon world. Through the assistance of the internet, allowing dozens of the world's most brilliant minds to connect whilst being oceans apart. Discoveries are being made at a genuinely astounding pace. From the discovery of the dark typing one hundred and fifty years ago, to the advancements of medical science.

I, personally, have assisted this world's advancement through my own research of S.T.A.B.

But. Today I bring a new idea. One which will shake this world far more than the concept of Same Type Attack Bonuses.

I propose, much like the legendary Doctor Neem and Professor Mahogany of old, that there is a new undiscovered pokemon type which does not fit into our standardized pokemon type system.

Please, take a look at this short *clip* from a gym battle one of my traveling companions had against Gym Leader Cheren of Aspertia's Normal Type gym.

Do you notice anything strange about this fight?

To put it simply, Dachsbun is wading through the dragon breath of a Altaria. Allowing it to wash over its body as if it were simply water from a hose.

This sort of scenario is utterly inexplainable. Dachsbun, one of this level of strength, should in no way be able to resist the full force attack of a fully evolved dragon type pokemon, even if it is one of the generally weaker ones like an Altaria.

This can be solved with one simple thing, however, a new type.

For a while I have noticed certain pokemon being strangely resistant to dragon type moves, that is why I propose for a new pokemon type to be instated. The 'Fairy' Type.

From what I can tell, the qualities of the Fairy Type is quite simple. A near immunity to dragon type moves, comparable to a dark type's resistance to Psychic Type moves with a normal resistance to Bug, Fighting, and Dark Types.

Conversely it seems to be super effective against Dark, Dragon, and Fighting type pokemon.

Finally, the weaknesses of this type seem to be firstly Poison type, then surprisingly enough, the steel type.

So far, I have only discovered a few pokemon which I believe qualify for the entirety of this new typing, first and foremost being Dachsbun and its pre-evolution, but I believe that many pokemon of all sorts should be recategorized into this type."

I glance to my right. "Hey, Courtney, does this look good?"

"Hm?" She hums, leaning over, her shoulder pressing against mine as her eyes skim the first line.

she flinches back as she seems to comprehend the words on the page.

Her eyes snap to my own. "Is this true?!"

"According to my findings, yes." I nod once.

The girl cups her chin, I can see her eyes flicking between me and the text, her eyes calculative.

"This is... big." She robotically intones. "This is... perhaps... magnum opus material."

"Perhaps to some, but for me? Eh. This is just a means to an end. My true passion is ancient pokemon. This is just something to get people to take me seriously beyond my work on S.t.a.b. and the nature of high speed pokemon who starve themselves... of course. I won't be revealing the nail in the coffin until lines in the sand have been drawn."

"Using controversy to allow your message to reach new people... before proving you are unequivocally correct and putting an end to any and all opposition. I see." A small evil smirk appears on her lips as she gives me an approving nod. "That is interesting."

"Depending on how large the initial conflict is, I predict that I will be getting requests to attend a recorded debate. At which point I will be sending my coup de grace." I continue, causing the girl's smile to grow.

There's a knock on the door, causing both of us to glance over.

Cynthia enters a moment later as she is flanked by a brown haired man with orange clothes and a hat of the same color, there's also a lasso at his hip.

He crosses his arms as he looks over us.

"Good. You're still awake." Cynthia smiles.

Klara tiredly sits up from the bed, rubbing her eye.

"This is Divael, a pokemon ranger. He would like to ask a few questions while everything is fresh on your minds." Cynthia introduces while gesturing to the man.

He nods once in thanks. "I am here to inquire about how you knew that there was a team plasma outpost atop this mountain."

"We didn't." I frown.

"Then... why travel all the way out here?" He continues.

I give him a half-lidded stare. "Driftveil. We aren't 'all the way out here' we are merely half way from point a to point b. you're making it sound like deciding to not travel on a floating tin can in a bay that was up until very recently infested with titanic, angry, murderous rage serpents and instead deciding to go through a- up until recently- very calm mountain range isn't something someone would decide to do."

"You traveled at night."

"Yes." I nod once as the small black fox who had been lounging nearby stands up and shakes himself off.

"With this much snow on the ground?" He asks.

"It was better than traveling in a blizzard, to be completely and totally fair." I shrug.

"You think that traveling a dangerous icy mountain in the middle of the night is safer than in the day?" The man frowns. "Were you not trying to escape the watchful eye of Sinnoh's regional champion?"

"Oh, that was just a bonus, really." I admit as Loki prances over and hops up into my lap, seemingly sensing my vague annoyance of being forced to talk to this schmuck. "I also don't particularly like how you are characterizing my actions. You are making me sound villainous. The guy who basically singlehandedly stopped Team Plasma in this mountain."

"He's right." Cynthia nods. "They selflessly risked their lives to stop whatever plot that Team Plasma had in this area. I won't have you considering them as the suspects for some form of asinine villainous plot."

He nods his head. "I... apologize. It's just suspicious how they traveled and acted as if they knew that there was something in this mountain."

"I never said that I didn't have suspicions that there was something in this mountain." I shrug with a small impish smile as I gently begin stroking the unnaturally fluffy Eevee. "Just that we didn't know for sure. It was suspicious how the storm appeared, and, considering that Team Plasma used some form of mind effecting device in the past I made the fairly reasonable assumption that something was amiss in these mountains. Then decided it would be better to travel under the cover of darkness, as while it would obscure our vision, it would do the same to the much larger group of people I had predicted to be here."

"And you attacked them. Why? That was incredibly dangerous and it could have taken your lives!" The man frowns.

"The reason as to why we attacked is simply because when we discovered the camp, it was nearing dawn. We could have easily continued on, but I knew that the resident Sinnoh champion here was following us due to the fact I heard her slip, let out a girlish cry, and fall roughly... three times?"

I glance to Courtney who nods twice, a passive expression on her face.

"-and at that point in time we held the advantage most of the trainers were asleep." I continue.

"You ordered your pokemon to attack defenseless people?!"

"I've dealt with Team Plasma before. They do the exact same thing. Targeting trainers instead of pokemon. A large majority of them carry weapons specifically for this reason. Maiming and killing. You have problems with us risking our lives... but you also have problems with the safest way we could possibly do it with the least casualties on both sides. You need to make up your mind, sir."

He lets out a long sigh. The conversation with me probably grating on his patience. "You being here is contaminating a crime scene."

I gesture to Cynthia. "Cynthia here has already collected any important documents that were in plain sight and we will certainly inform you if anything else is found. Besides, we will be leaving after we get a little rest. Something that will come far sooner if we didn't have to answer questions."

The man sighs and nods once. "Very well. I will allow you to rest."

"Thank you! Goodbye!" I smile brightly.

My smile falls into an impassive glare as the door clicks shut behind him, letting out a mutter under my breath. "Disrespectful little bastard."

Cynthia, who is still in the room, gives me a curious blink. "Do... you feel you are deserving of respect?"

"Of course. At least enough so that I am not treated as either a criminal or a child. We took out an entire team plasma forward operating base with four people. You honestly barely even helped fight. Though I will say your ability to clean up this little disaster has been nothing short of a godsend so I deeply appreciate that."

"Though. Now that we are alone, I feel as if we should clear the air. Why exactly are you following us?" I ask with a slight frown.

"I... saw your battle. Your one of a kind pokemon... and in that moment I knew that you were more than likely going to be targeted for that. I want you to reach your full potential."

I look her dead in the eyes. "So you basically are molding me into becoming the perfect challenge for you as you have grown tired and resigned at the current state of trainers across the regions."

I give her a small impish smile as I watch her body slightly stiffen, her eyes widening the smallest fraction.

"Yes. I am quite good at reading people. Living with pokemon all of my life has left me with almost no equal when it comes to reading someone's body language. Be it dragon type, normal type, or person. From what I can tell from you, you yearn for a challenge, something that is extremely rare when you have a pseudo legendary of such strength, not to mention the other aspects of your team being top notch one in a million pokemon. Next... you are an absolute pervert when it comes to anything relating to ancient history. In particular, ancient Sinnoh history, or rather... Hisuian History."

"I do not like your characterization of that." The woman frowns.

I prop my head up with one hand, leaning on the arm of the couch I rest in, I shoot Cynthia a small smile. "Tell you what, you really helped out with the annoying bits of arresting people today. Ask me one question and I will answer it truthfully."

I can see her eyes light up. "Really?!"

"Yes." I nod once, sharing a glance with Courtney.

"Then... what relationship do you have with Hisui?" She questions, stars practically in her eyes. In the moment she seems to have forgotten that she saw me get stabbed which is pretty good, I suppose.

"My clan, the Welsh Clan, used to live in the Hisui region for perhaps millennium. But something happened like... maybe... five hundred years ago that got us to move to Unova. Though... now I am the only one left. My mother died, and my father was actually an outsider... whi has also disappeared. I don't actually know what happened to them, as my parents disappeared when I was merely a child, but I do know that most dwindled when my mother was a child, and by the time I was born... my mother and myself were the only ones left."

"I-" she pauses briefly, trying to find the right words. "I apologize for reminding you of that."

"Eh. It's been a long time. Don't worry about it. I was too young to remember much about them anyways."

"Vee... Eevee." Loki states as he looks up to me with his big adorable red eyes.

I let out a quiet yawn, rubbing an eye as I pat the top of my fox pokemon's head. "Now. It's been a pretty long day; I'd say it's about time for some rest."

"Right." The woman nods "I apologize in advance, however, the pokemon rangers outside may be quite loud."

'let's see here...'

I gaze over an edited version of my research. It's a little bit longer now and some parts have been reworded. I have kept a lot of the first draft's original points, but now, it's less 'this exists.' And more of a 'this probably exists and I will prove it does so through key points of data which are listed here'.

With a deep breath I post it, glancing over to Courtney who is sat beside me. "Well, I posted the thing."

"Oh? The thing you showed me yesterday?" She questions a small smile appearing on her lips.

"Yes, that thing." I slowly nod. "Anyways, after looking over your team, do you need a fire stone?"

"I will need one for my Vulpix eventually, but if I evolve it prematurely it will be far weaker than normal." She replies.

"Oh, in that case, don't worry about it. I want it to be the strongest it can be, which was why I was going to say I could give you a truly one hundred percent pure fire stone if you needed it."

"O-One hundred percent?!" I hear Cynthia gasp, causing my eyes to stray to the woman who is leaned against a nearby tree. She had now actively started following us in close proximity. Mildly bothersome, sure, as we can't do any less than legal actions now, but at least we have an ample meat shield in the form of an incredibly powerful woman. "That sort of thing... it would be a genuine treasure. You could sell it for millions. Tens of millions, possibly even hundreds of millions."

"And the cost to get it would be roughly that much as well." I sigh as I scratch my temple.

"Pardon?" The woman mutters.

"Oh, think nothing of it. The Welsh family has a special art I like to call 'alchemy' that was passed down through the generations, I learned it from my mother's Eevee... its similar to chemistry in a way that converts things and materials into a more usable state, so I was planning on purchasing a truly ludicrous amount of Type Gems at Driftveil, hopefully at a discount for buying in bulk, maybe some lesser firestones with a low purity, then I would convert all of that into one sole fire stone far better than the sum of its parts."

Cynthia seems genuinely dumbfounded, Courtney's eyes glitter with greed and yearning. She already sees me as her 'New Maxxie' and... frankly? I'm completely for it. A smart, attractive, and sociopathic scientist girl? One whose only lapse in sociopathy is her entire devotion and infatuation with you?!

Maxxie truly was a great fool. One who I will kill without remorse if he ever realizes what he has lost and comes for her.

I let out a yawn as I stretch my arms above my head. "Anyways, getting the materials right now isn't that big of a deal, it's just a shame that the price of materials is probably going to skyrocket in the coming months due to Team Plasma."

"Wh- wait... why?" Cynthia

"Oh, it's pretty simple, they're more than likely going to attack Driftveil soon." I shrug as I get up off the tree stump I was resting on, Loki falling from my lap and landing on the ground below on his feet, he looks up and makes a mildly annoyed pouting growl.

"eeVEE."

I reach down and stroke a finger down his back, he leaps, landing on my shoulder as I rise to my full height.

"How do you know that?" The woman frowns.

"Honestly, I don't. But knowing our luck and taking into account what I would do if I wanted to be a hypocritical evil organization who claims that 'pokemon must be free' while simultaneously abusing pokemon and taking away the free will of pokemon. That's how I'd do it."

"One moment. A visual aid would probably help." I mutter as I tap a few buttons on a holographic keyboard and allow a large screen to appear from my watch which displays the map of the Unova region. "You see, Unova is quite... unique in its design. Lush forests, mountain ranges, and most importantly, two gigantic rivers which divide the region into three parts."

"An organization like Team Plasma has to use underhanded tactics to defeat others. They are few in number. The average member being throw-away genuine garbage trainers that are doubtful to even reach their third badge if they were on an official Pokémon circuit. They would hold no candle to the pokemon League and their hordes of ace trainers, pokemon rangers, and police forces so they fight dirty."

"Taking that into account." I continue as I gesture to Driftveil. "I would attempt to place the sustainability of Unova in jeopardy. Create civil unrest. This makes Driftveil a prime target. Gym Leader Clay's mining operation brings valuable metals to all of Unova. Pokeball production, steelworks, type gems, fossils, evolution stones, this city is the backbone of basically all industry in Unova be it building, battle, or general retail. All of that shipped out through the use of one of the largest docks in Unova, second only to the capital, Castelia city."

"What would happen if someone were to stop production? Collapse a mine. Destroy Charizard bridge? Destroy the docks? Collapse the entrance to Chargestone Cave... Isolate this sole town from the rest of Unova?"

I stare into Cynthia's eyes as she instantly realizes what I am getting at eventually she formulates an answer. "The prices of everything will rise steadily if that were to happen. Shipping to other regions would also take a hit... I take it that they would also target Mistralton's airport?"

"it's likely." I nod once. "A way to stop any Unovan exports and to cripple the economy."

Cynthia nods along. "I can see the logic behind it... but... would they truly go so low? Most criminal organizations keep the majority of civilians out of the crossfire. There is a mutual respect. An unwritten rule since the great war which wracked Johto, Kanto and the other regions."

"Cynthia, you need to understand that these people are already breaking taboos. They carry knives, not to protect themselves from wild pokemon, but to injure, threaten, and potentially kill trainers themselves. They have attacked pokemon centers. Hospitals are probably going to shortly follow. They will make it their mission to make living in Unova genuinely just inconvenient to the normal person. A show of force that will tell them 'let us do what we want or we will continue to target your livelihoods'."

"That is why I use their methods when against them... the best way to fight a dragon... is with a second dragon." I state as I cross my arms, Zinnia smirks and nods once as Klara lets out a final sigh, stretching her arms above her head as she slowly rises to her feet Courtney finishes the small trail ration she was snacking on and nods slowly.

"Shall we continue?" She asks in her usual muted robotic tone. "It is likely that we could reach Driftveil by tonight if we were to keep up this pace."

I gaze out over a large bustling city from my spot atop a hill, Courtney is stood next to me, Zinnia on the other side.

Slightly behind me, is Klara who every now and then casts a slightly jealous look over at Cynthia and her Lucario before gazing forwards.

Klara's sort of a bitch. Hating anyone who is more successful than her. Myself, Zinnia, and Courtney seemingly being the exceptions to that little rule, or at the very least, I am while she tolerates Zinnia and Courtney as I place more trust in them than her.

She's the type to use her good looks to try and get her way, so she doesn't like more competition in the form of a far more successful, useful, and overall stronger trainer.

I wouldn't say 'hotter' as they are sort of in two separate demographics. Klara being more 'idol-esque' while Cynthia has more of a mature vibe to her.

You wouldn't compare the flavor of chocolate to a good cheeseburger. It's not really a fair comparison.

"Thought occurs." I begin slowly.

"Yeah?" Zinnia questions.

"Why don't we skip over this place and hurry back to my home so I can quickly flesh out the remainder of your teams?" I ask. "Instead of tackling this gym, we come back later so all of your team members can get experience rather than just the ones you have on you now."

"Wait... your home?" Cynthia mutters quietly.

"Oh, this one doesn't really concern you. You've got your incredibly powerful team to worry about. I just want to make sure my companions have the best team possible to complete our goal."

"Your goal." Cynthia repeats.

"Yep! Not getting killed by Team Plasma!" I smile brightly.

"So?" I ask.

"You said you've got some interesting dragon types, right?" Zinnia shoots me a feral grin. "The sooner I see them, the better!"

"I myself am fine with either option. Be it continuing on our current path to defeat the earth gym, or to gather new team members. Though, I must admit, this gym will be far more difficult for me to defeat, so it may be in my best interest to return at a later date." Courtney supplies.

Klara looks over. "Hm? Oh... yeah... I'm not really a fan of ground types. I'm fine with just skipping over this place... honestly I'd prefer it if I could go down to Striaton City and see if I can get my final badge that way."

I nod slowly. "So. We are decided, then."

I look to the fox on my shoulder. "Loki. Do you think you could teleport us all to Mistralton?"

His ears twitch as he tilts his head to the side.

He leaps off my shoulder and with a flash he transforms into his snow white espeon form.

He gazes off into the distance, the blue gem on his forehead glowing.

He looks back to me and nods once.

"Oh? That's great!" I look to Cynthia. "Are you coming wish us or not?"

"I... will." The woman nods after a short moment of deliberation.

"Alright. Whatever." I state as I turn to Loki, Klara and Cynthia walking closer. "Whenever you're ready, Loki."

He begins glowing brightly.

*FLASH*

*FLASH*

I blink the spots out of my vision, rubbing my eyes as I blearily look around.

In front of us rests a large rusted gate, extending out in both directions is a mesh fence with barbed wire along the top, on the front of the gate, and on the fence every one hundred feet or so is a single sign that reads one thing.

"Private Property. Trespassers will be eaten."

There's a picture of a Hydreigon's three heads at the bottom.

I look to the Espeon stood next to me who is panting tiredly. "Huh. You actually managed to get us to the front door. I sort of expected that we'd be forced to walk from Mistralton."

"Es-… Espeon!" The pokemon tiredly pants.

With a small poof, a black fox replaces it, I reach down and pick him up by the scruff, earing a small whine of protest that dies out as I place him on my shoulder.

His tail wags as I scratch his chin.

I reach out and push the rusted gate open, then gesture up a long twisted path.

"We... are being watched." The pokemon champion frowns suddenly.

"of course, we are." I scoff with a slight eyeroll.

"Oi! Nebula. Are you going to just stare or will you come out and let me introduce you?"

A green Espeon walks out of the underbrush, its murky purple gaze strays over the group around me as it takes a seat a short distance away.

"Espeon?"

"These are the people who have joined me on my adventure."

The fox-cat tilts its head.

"Esp...Peon?" It question quietly

"I brought them here because it is needed. Loki could you fill her in quickly."

There's a brief moment as the two foxes lock eyes.

Nebula rockets to her feet, body tense as her eyes widen. "Espeon?!"

"Yes. That's what we are trying to avoid... that is why I wanted to bring some more of the pack with us." I begin quietly.

The shiny espeon nods once in complete understanding.

With a dull flash she teleports away.

"Wh... what?" Klara weakly asks.

"Oh. She's telling the rest of the residents who live here to not kill you. While we are walking up, just stay close to me. Nobody here will attack as long as I am close by."

"it is... not good to have such violent pokemon." The woman frowns.

"Oh, believe me, they tend to leave humans who are dumb enough to ignore the warnings alive and uninjured, just utterly terrified... unless they actually manage to capture a member of the pack, in which case... they might get a little more 'hands on'. Of course, there are exceptions. Primarily if you treat them like the sentient creatures like they are and ask if they want to travel with you, but otherwise? eh, poachers gonna get poached."

We continue along the winding path, I glance over to Zinnia. "Oh, by the way. I'd personally suggest being sort of careful with your dragon types. Altaria should be fine, but your Shellgon might pick a fight with some of the Shellignant that are around... and let me just tell you it's going to lose that fight. Lose so bad."

"He won't be the alpha. Got it." The black haired draconid nods slowly.

"Ohoho he sure as hell won't be the alpha." I snort. "You know Magni?"

"Yeah? That strong ass dragon type you've got?" The girl questions.

"he's a first stage Pseudo Legendary." I reveal.

"…" Zinnia is silent for a moment. "Then is... is the alpha here-"

"Yes. Yes it is." I nod once, causing a grin to split her lips, seemingly just incredibly excited about seeing a new incredibly powerful dragon type.

"Shell...ignant?" Cynthia echoes my earlier statement, seeming to wrack her brain for any information on the pokemon I had mentioned but coming up blank.

"Don't worry about it. You're just about to see like thirty supposedly extinct species of pokemon, some from Hisui, some much older. Speaking of which. Don't release your Garchomp. Kori will probably take it as a challenge... and I don't particularly feel like watching two fully evolved pseudo legendary pokemon, both probably around the same strength, slug it out in my living room. they'll break stuff and honestly, that'd really piss me off as my home isn't exactly the best anyways."

"Er... right..." The woman mutters. "I understand."

"Good, Good." I nod slowly.

I can feel Klara's worry, Courtney's calm caution... and then Zinnia's and Cynthia's eagerness.

We come to a cave, causing me to bright up my watch as I step inside. "Please follow me, it gets a little labyrinthian at times, but I remember the way."

I lead them through the twists and turns, crouching under slightly lower tunnels, through numerous branching paths, after a couple of minutes, the path enlarges, growing wider, there's a quiet rumble of voices echoing off the walls of the cave. It appears that a large group of pokemon are having a discussion.

An endless wave of names reaches us as we step into a large cavern.

A large mass seems to have gathered around one of the remaining stone huts that still stand, Nebula, the espeon stands atop its roof, seemingly being the focal point. Her gem is glowing brightly as she swipes her gaze across the group.

"Wh-" Courtney loses her normal composure, eyes wide with wonder at the murals and rainbow light from the truly gigantic crystal in the center of the room.

Zinnia pouts slight as she looks over to me. "I wish my village looked even half this cool... it's covered in a bunch of obsidian now, though."

Klara is frozen in shock, and Cynthia?

Ohoho Cynthia looks like she just came from sheer historical overload.

A tannish Leafeon prances over to us.

"Oh, hey Greenie." I greet as I reach down and stroke the top of the leaf fox pokemon's head.

"Hey, young master!" It replies. "It has been so long! Are these your companions."

I nod once. "They are."

I gesture to Cynthia whose eyes are wide as she scans the room. "She is the newest, but she is strong. Really strong. Plus, she saved us when we were going up against a bunch of criminals."

I gesture to my tribal companion. "This is Zinnia, she is part of the Draconid tribe, a tribe from Hoenn, similar to the Welsh tribe."

The fox looks to her and glances back to me. "She is the source of the meteor's tale?"

"Yes, she is." I nod as I gesture to Courtney. "This is Courtney, an aspiring researcher."

Said pink haired girl glances down and offers a small wave to the fox.

"And finally, this is Klara. The second most recent. And an aspiring idol." I finish.

"What's an Idol?" The fox questions.

"Explaining idols would take far too much time to explain and I'm pretty tired after walking over a mountain. So, uh, I think I'll pass on that question and just go to bed. Has anything changed here?"

I begin slowly walking, gesturing for the group to follow along after me as the Leafeon trails beside me, looking up at me as its tail sways slightly.

"Oh, well. Hm... oh! We got a guest who is here to see you!"

"Wait... Guest?" I question, now suddenly my entire focus on the grass type. "There's someone here?!"

"Yep! She showed up a couple of days after you left and has stayed here ever since! Oh! She's also not human!"

"What do you mean by that?!"

By this point I had come to the front door of my abode, which looks slightly out of place, instead of the usual stone huts and holes in the wall of the rest of the cave it is more high tech, metal, like it was built here much much later. I grab the handle and twist, opening up the door as I glance forwards.

There's a blue-skinned girl with fiery orange hair and murky white eyes sat on the couch in nothing more than some EROTIC lingerie.

She looks up, eyes widening slightly, she lets out a small squeak, covering herself with her hands as I voice my confusion. "What the fresh FUCK?!"

Annnnd we're back! Xander returned home after a fairly long trip through the mountains, took one look at Driftveil and was all 'fuck it. I want to sleep in my own bed tonight'. But now he discovered a certain- totally willing- resident in his home.
