Part of the Unexpected Series and I have wanted to write something like this for a while. I am absolutely in love with Hozier's cover of Arctic Monkey's "Do I Wanna Know" and this song definitely inspired this chapter. I really want to get the feel of yearning that I get from Hozier's cover in this chapter and I feel that Riven and Musa would be the best couple and the Unexpected plotline would be the best for this scenario.
Here is the cover for reference: watch?v=xSbAFPeIv8Q
Musa and Riven- Hoping That You'd Stay
The windows to the shared dorm room that Riven shared with Helia and Timmy were open as a light breeze filled the room and blew Musa's hair as she slept. There were fainted sounds of students outside in the courtyard and faint moonlight spilled in and Riven hoped that it would not wake Musa.
It was Tuesday night and for the past two months, she had been coming over to his room every Tuesday and Thursday night as her boyfriend, Orlando, had been practicing with his band. Neither Riven nor Musa knew how this affair had begun but Riven couldn't lie that he was upset that it did. For those two nights a week, Musa was his and he was Musa's.
He had missed the feeling of Musa's hands on his chest and her lips on his. She still tasted so sweet and every time that they were together, he was reminded of the beautiful and passionate parts of their relationship. He had been so dumb to let that go. He was the one who fucked up and it was a miracle that Musa was talking to him let alone sleeping with him every Tuesday and Thursday. She was a much better person than he was.
However, despite the fact that he and Musa had been "sleeping" together, this was the first time that Musa had actually slept. They usually had sex and laid together as they caught their breaths. Then, Musa would thank Riven so casually before she stood up and got dressed. She would leave and Riven would once again be alone before Timmy and Helia returned back to the room. But tonight, Musa had fallen asleep as he brushed back her bangs that stuck to her forehead as she turned to him and caught her breath.
She always looked so peaceful when she slept and Riven could stare at her for hours. But they only had a few more minutes together before Musa would have to get up, get dressed, and go back to Alfea, leaving Riven to count the minutes until she was back in his room and in his arms Thursday evening. Wednesday was always torture. Mostly because he knew that Musa went back to being with Orlando.
The other days were hard as well, but the pain began to lessen as the days went on. Tuesday was euphoric, Wednesday was like a knife through his heart, and Thursday was the day that Musa came back to him to suture the wound. Riven didn't want Musa to leave because when she did, she would plunge the knife back into his chest and he wouldn't have the strength nor the desire to pull it out.
Looking back, he should have just let Musa live her life with Orlando. He should have never gotten involved, told her that he missed her, and put it in her head that he still wanted her. But as he saw her with Orlando, her lips on his and his hands on her, Riven realized that he needed Musa more than he ever thought that he could ever possibly want anyone or anything in his life. He told her that it was just sex and that "if she needed to let off some steam and have some fun" she could come to him, and come for him. He never thought that she would show up at his bedroom door one Tuesday evening and jump in his arms.
But this was more than sex. So much more than sex.
He could no longer deny his feelings for Musa, he supposed that they had never gone away. He loved Musa and it scared him so much. Riven prided himself on not being scared of anything but being in love with Musa was the one thing that made his blood run cold and the breath still in his chest. He was scared because he didn't know if the feeling was reciprocated in the same way.
Musa loved having sex with him, but that didn't mean that she loved him. And why would she? He was a terrible boyfriend when they were together, always putting her second and just acting like a general ass. He ruined every relationship that he had. His father left his mother when he was young and the worst part was that Riven had heard the stories about how in love his parents were before he was born and then he had to come and ruin it. All he did was disappoint and there was no way that Musa could ever be in love with someone like him.
Riven took a deep breath before he carefully lifted the blankets off of his body and crawled out of bed. He picked up the jeans that had been thrown to the floor when he and Musa had undressed each other and slipped them over his hips. Riven walked over to the window and stood on the balcony where he closed the shutters behind him. Lifting the flower pot on the balcony, Riven stuck his hand inside of the hollow center and pulled out a pack of cigarettes.
It was a nasty habit that he had picked up from their time on Earth. He admittedly hadn't smoked in weeks but tonight was screaming at him to indulge. All he could think about was the sleeping fairy in his bed and how much his heart hurt with every snore that left her mouth. He wasn't a crier and the nights of drinking in the forest did very little to assuage his thoughts, so he would smoke.
His hands shook as he pulled out a thin cigarette and pulling out the small lighter that he had in his jeans pocket, he placed the cigarette in his mouth and lit the other end.
Riven took a long drag of his cigarette, letting the smoke fill his lungs and the nicotine calm his head, as he did his best to banish the deep feelings that he had for Musa. With each inhalation of bitter-sweet smoke, Riven felt the pain lessen. But it was like treating a phantom blade wound with a bandaid. It wasn't really helping. He would need much more than a contraband pack of cigarettes from Earth to help him with his racing thoughts and his love for a woman who would never completely be his.
Not that she belonged to anyone but he would give anything to hear her call his name on days that weren't Tuesday or Thursday. He would fight the entirety of the Omega Dimension to hear Musa tell him that she loved him. Musa didn't belong to anyone but he wanted her to belong to him.
Sure, Riven had thought about finding someone else. Musa had moved on so why couldn't he? He knew that he was attractive and that there were witches and fairies alike who would jump at the chance to be with him and warm his bed. He thought so hard about fucking the witch that walked by the arena, sneaking a glance at him when he trained. She was cute, a little dark in attitude, and she had tits that any heterosexual man would die to touch. But as soon as Riven thought about being with someone else, Musa popped back into his head.
Riven's lips burned as he finished the cigarette and as the end extinguished at the butt, so did the small reprieve in his mind and the thoughts of Musa came flooding back in just as strong. He flicked the cigarette butt from the balcony, not caring where it landed or who would find it. Nothing mattered more to him than the woman who was currently sleeping in his bed.
He turned and opened the shutters of the balcony and walked back into his room to see that Musa was still sleeping soundly. Her arm was lifted and the back of her hand was resting softly on her face, just like those paintings he had seen of those women when Helia dragged him to the art museum in a futile attempt to make him feel better when he discovered that Musa had begun dating someone knew. It hadn't worked but seeing Musa in a similar position as the portraits made all that art mambo-jumbo that Helia is always going on and on about make a lot of sense. Musa was art and he would gladly put her likeness to canvas if he was artistic.
Riven walked over to Timmy's desk and grabbed a mint from the small container of mints that Timmy kept on his desk to suck when he was studying. Timmy claimed that mint helped people study better or something lame like that but Riven just needed the mint so that his breath wouldn't smell like an ashtray. He looked to the small digital clock on Timmy's desk and saw the bright, red numbers. There wasn't much time left.
He crawled back into the bed and Musa moved. Riven held his breath, hoping that he had not woken her. She stirred and Riven's heart stopped in his chest when she curled into his chest, her breath hitting his pecs as she snored. Did he have to wake her up? Did she need to go? He wanted to stay like this forever.
Rough and calloused hands, worn form training and working on LevaBikes, resumed their stroking across Musa's forehead, pushing back her bangs so that he could see the entirety of her face. Her face reminded him of the moon, round and pale and full of light. She was the most beautiful fairy, witch, woman, being that he had ever seen. Everytime that he looked at her and touched her soft skin, he was filled with a happiness and warmth that he didn't think that he could ever feel again.
Musa's snores were light and just as melodious as her singing voice and it was enough to put him in a trance. Was she sure that she wasn't a witch? Because the spell that she had him under was more cruel than anything that Icy, Stormy, or Darcy could ever conjure. Just as easily he crawled back into bed with Musa, he was crawling back to her even though he knew that she was with someone else.
Riven looked over to the small clock again and wished that he hadn't because it was time for this quiet moment to end. He would have to wake Musa and tell her that it was time for her to leave. While she had to leave him, he would wake her up in his own way. A way that he knew would be dangerous but a way that he would hope to convey just a fraction of how he felt for her.
Lowering his head, Riven placed his lips on Musa and slowly pressed into them. Her lips were so soft and he felt like everytime that they kissed, he was dirtying them up with his filth. His mouth had said enough hurtful things for the both of them, his lips stung with the burning feeling of the cigarette, and still, he had the nerve to kiss Musa. All that came out of her mouth was laughter, music, and the truth.
As Riven kissed Musa, he heard her moan and instinctually deepen the kiss. Riven's arms wrapped around Musa's body and pulled her close to him. Musa's hands rested gently on his chest. Riven's tongue ran across the seam of Musa's lips as he continued to deepen the kiss. He was more than surprised when Musa's lips parted and welcomed Riven's tongue and the minty taste that covered it. Musa continued to moan and soon her eyes fluttered open and Riven was immediately greeted with sapphire eyes.
As she woke and came to her senses, Musa pulled away and pushed her body away from Riven's. The kiss ended and Riven felt the warmth that he felt with Musa leave his body.
"What was that for?" Musa sleepily asked as she rolled over and stretched.
Riven couldn't help but feel a sudden sadness as Musa moved away from him. He wanted to tell her that he had kissed her because he was madly and deeply in love with her. He wanted to beg her not to go and to stay with him, pleading with her to stay.
But he couldn't. He wasn't ready.
"Why?" RIven smirked as he rolled to his back and placed his hands under his head, "You like it?"
Musa rolled her eyes as she sat up in the bed. She rubbed her eyes and reached for her phone on Riven's bedside table and her eyes widened.
"Did I fall asleep?" Musa exclaimed as she gripped the edge of the blankets and peeled them away from her body as she stood up and began to gather the clothes from the floor. "Shit shit shit. Why didn't you wake me up earlier?"
Riven shrugged, "You looked tired. I must have really worn you out tonight."
"Riven..." Musa whined as she looked over at Riven who was still lounging in his bed.
"What?" Riven sat up, "I woke you up didn't I?"
"Yeah, with a kiss." Musa huffed. "You shouldn't have done that."
"And why not? We just fucked less than ten minutes ago. My dick was buried inside of you and you want to bitch at me about me kissing you."
Musa ran her fingers through her hair, "Just..." Musa sighed, "forget it, alright?"
"Fine."
He wouldn't. Oh, how he tried to forget the moments, the touches, and the kisses that he had shared with Musa but the thoughts would not leave his head. He didn't think that they ever would. So he couldn't "forget it".
"I'll see you Thursday night, right?" Riven asked, knowing the answer.
Musa turned her head and glared at Riven.
"Whatever," Riven sucked his teeth and rolled his eyes, "I'll be here Thursday night. Come or don't come, if you don't, there is a witch who-"
"Then fuck her, Riven! Do whatever you want! I don't care." Musa turned her head away from Riven and scoffed in annoyance. Once again, Riven's heart skipped a painful beat. She wouldn't care? Just the thought of Musa touching Orlando made his skin crawl.
"I just might."
Musa turned back to face Riven as she grabbed her purse from Riven's desk chair. As she looked up slightly, Riven swore that he could see something pained on her face. He had unfortunately seen Musa cry multiple times and something in him told him that she might be on the verge of tears now. But that was all wishful thinking. He was just hoping for a moment that she would break down and crawl back into his arms but Helia taught him about projecting and Riven thought that maybe he was doing just that.
"You're an ass, Riven."
Musa slung her purse over her shoulder and made her way over to the door. Placing her hand on the door knob, as she turned her wrist, something in Riven turned and he felt the urge to speak yet again.
"Hey, Musa..."
Musa stopped and turned around.
"Yeah?"
What the Hell was he doing? What was he going to say to her? He couldn't say anything, he shouldn't say anything, but all he wanted to say that he loved her and that being parted from her filled him with so much pain. He wanted to tell her that the nights spent with her were the moments that he looked forward to the most. How he wanted to tell her everything that he was feeling but he couldn't.
"Just that I want to be on top on Thursday."
