Tot prompted: " Kol has a hard time fitting in, and as a result, he starts falling in with the wrong crowd, which causes him to start doing bad stuff for fun (skipping class, cheating on tests, stealing, backtalking at school and home, sneaking out, etc.)? :)"
Elijah leans in the doorway of the kitchen, smiling as he watches his wife slice lemons on the cutting board. Her soft, hazel eyes dedicated intently. This woman could read the phonebook and it'd be sexy to him.
"I can feel you staring," she says, not moving her gaze.
Elijah chuckles, taking a step closer. "Guilty. If one can truly be over lusting after their wife."
Hayley rolls her eyes, shaking her head. She pushes the lemons to the side of the board and drops the knife, finally looking up at him. "May I help you?"
"Perhaps."
He wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her closer, gently kissing her lips. She returns it for only a moment, pulling away with a soft smirk.
"Where have you been all day?"
"Boring business at Marcellus', I'm afraid." He shakes his head. "I didn't realize how many little fires he has to put out."
"Anything I can help with?"
"Nay." He looks around at the fruit she's cut up into little bowls. "What are you making here, anyway?"
"Lemonade. I already fixed the juice, I just need to add the rest." He raises a brow. She shrugs. "I got bored."
"Perhaps next time you should come along with me."
"I'd like that."
Hayley pulls away from him and grabs the pitcher filled with the lemonade. Elijah helps her mix in the fruit.
"Where's Kol?"
Hayley tilts her head. "He hasn't called you?"
"Nay. Why?"
"I assumed he told you where he was."
"He's not home?"
Hayley nods, a bit of worry etching her face. "School let out a couple of hours ago. When I dropped him off this morning, he said he'd text you if he made plans."
Elijah pinches the bridge of his nose as his wife sighs. He pulls out his phone and checks his messages he may have missed. Nothing.
"This has happened far too often," he says. "We've told him countless times to phone or text if he's going out."
"I'm sure he's okay."
He fixes her with a Look. "It's Kol. Our son. He could be up to anything."
"Aren't we supposed to trust him?"
"Only if he gives us a reason to."
The front door creeks open. Elijah vamps out of the room with Hayley hot on his tail. Kol kicks off his shoes and tosses his jacket in the direction of the coat rack, completely missing. Elijah folds his arms over his chest.
"Just where have you been?"
Kol glances up, shrugging. "Around."
"Kol," Elijah fights to keep his voice even. Hayley places a hand on his back, grounding him to the Earth a bit. "That is not an acceptable answer."
"I was just out with some friends."
Hayley speaks before Elijah can. "You know you're supposed to text us if you're going out after school."
Kol shrugs once again. Elijah fidgets. "I forgot." Elijah doesn't change his stern face. "I'm sorry, alright? Why are you acting like I snuck out of the house or something?"
"We were worried," Hayley barrels on, giving Elijah a look. "We're still fairly new to the French Quarter."
"I've lived here before, Mama. I'll be fine."
"Regardless," Elijah finally gets a word in, pulling away from his wife. "You are to tell us where you are going and who you are going to be…"
He trails off as his nose perks up. Taking a step forward, he picks up Kol's discarded jacket and sniffs it out. His jaw locks, holding it out to Hayley. His wife barely has to hold it before her face changes.
"Kol Mikaelson, you know you're not supposed to smoke," Hayley says, her voice firm.
Kol's mouth drops open. "I wasn't!"
"Your jacket reeks of cigarettes."
"The people I was with were, but I wasn't."
Elijah shakes his head. "Maybe you shouldn't be hanging out with those who do that. Aren't these children a bit young for that?"
"It's not up for me to judge." Kol snatches his jacket back. "What's the big deal, so long as I don't do it?"
"You are the company you keep, young man. We've been over this plenty of times. You aren't going to hang out with these people anymore."
Kol glares at him. "You can't decide that."
Elijah clicks his tongue. "Pardon? I don't believe I heard you right?" Kol opens his mouth to speak, but the elder presses on. "Because what should've come out of your mouth is "Yes, Dad. I will obey your rules". Correct?" Kol rolls his eyes. "I repeat, pardon?"
"I am not some puppet that you can control. You cannot tell me who to hang out with."
"I can if you wish to not be grounded!"
"Hey!" Hayley stands between the two, holding up a hand. "Enough, the both of you. Elijah, you need to calm down right now." Elijah's mouth drops open. She turns to their smirking son. "And you…" Kol's face grows solemn over her stern gaze. "You will not speak to your father that way. He is just looking out for you. We both are. If he says you can't see these kids, then you will not see them. Are we understood?"
Kol grumbles. Hayley raises a brow.
"Kol," she warns.
"Fine," he growls. "May I be dismissed?"
Hayley sighs. "Yes. Go to your room and start on your homework."
Kol nods and starts for the stairs. Elijah snatches the jacket from him. Kol narrows his eyes but vamps away. Hayley tilts her head as she watches him dig through the pockets.
"Just what are you doing?"
"Checking for cigarettes," he mutters, turning each pocket inside out.
"I doubt he'd bring them home if he were."
Elijah doesn't respond until he's inspected all of the jacket. "With Kol, you can't be too sure."
Hayley sighs. "His attitude wasn't right, but flipping out on him for acting like a teenager isn't going to help."
"I am not raising any other teenager. Kol needs to be a proper young boy. That includes hanging out with the right crowd."
"I don't disagree. But if you treat him like a criminal, he'll act like one." Elijah runs his fingers through his hair. "We're his parents, not his wardens. He isn't going to blindly agree with everything we say."
"Well, he can certainly have a better attitude about it."
"Honey, he's frozen in time as a teenager. They rarely respond well to being forbidden from something."
Elijah purses his lips. "I suppose…"
"As I said, I agree with your message. And we shouldn't be too soft with him. I just think we should exert some patience."
Elijah nods, glancing back at the stairs.
"Shall I talk to him about it?"
"I'd give him some space." Hayley looks at the jacket and wrinkles her nose. "And perhaps throw that in the wash."
Elijah chuckles. "Right away."
Hayley shifts uncomfortably as she sits in the front row of Mr. Franklin's classroom. She's been on edge ever since they got the call from the biology teacher called and asked they join him after class. Elijah shoots her an amused look. She rolls her eyes.
"You wouldn't understand. You never got to attend a proper school."
"I attended law school," he points out.
"Yes, but never high school. I spent many a time being held after class to be reprimanded over my behavior."
Elijah chuckles. "You? Be anything other than my angelic wolf?" He fakes a surprised scoff. "Can't picture it."
She playfully smacks his arm and he chuckles. "Hush. You know, I used to think Kol got his cheekiness from Klaus, but I'm starting to see it's you."
"I have my moments," he admits.
Mr. Franklin enters the room. He's a tall, rail-thin man with balding, grayish blonde hair and glum brown eyes. Elijah and Hayley rise, shaking his hand. He hums as they introduce themselves, barely muttering his own name in response. Hayley nervously returns to her seat beside her husband's.
"So…you wanted to speak to us about Kol?"
"Yes," Mr. Franklin grumbles. He picks up a folder from his desk and flips through it. "It seems your…son?" He raises a brow for confirmation on the relation. The pair nods and he continues, "Your son has missed quite a few classes since the start of the term."
Elijah frowns. "We only kept him home one day, he was…ill." In reality, Kol had dropped quite considerably and there was no way he'd be able to sit through class.
"Yes, that is his only excused absence. The rest seem to occur on days he'll attend a few other classes, likely so the school won't call either of you and report him missing."
Hayley slowly nods. "Why didn't you call us sooner?"
"I was hoping the problem would sort itself out. We all understand that Kol has been homeschooled up until this point. However, he must learn the rules of a regular classroom." Mr. Franklin drops the folder. "Especially when he does attend."
Elijah stiffens. "What do you mean?"
"Kol has a fast mouth. I can barely get through class without him making one comment or another. Usually, he's goofing off in class. There was the incident with the frog…"
"A frog?"
"Yes. We were on our dissection unit and Kol took it upon himself to release his. It's not the first time I've had it happened. I approached him about an alternative assignment and he told me to…hold on, I wrote this down so I didn't paraphrase."
Elijah's muscles are already tense as the teacher flips through his folder once more. He stops at a piece of paper, pointing at a paragraph.
"Yes, "Why don't you jump out the window and join him, you old toad?""
Mr. Franklin's face is blank as he shuts the folder again. Elijah and Hayley exchange a horrified glance. Kol's got quite the mouth on him usually, but he's gotten better about respecting other adults…or so they thought he had.
Elijah clears his throat, doing his best not to stutter over his words. "Mr. Franklin, I apologize. I assure you, this isn't how we are raising Kol to act." Mr. Franklin hums, disbelief in his eyes. Heat rises to Elijah's cheeks. "I promise. We have taught him to respect his elders. I truly do not know where this behavior has come from."
"As I said, Mr. Mikaelson," Mr. Franklin says. "I understand this is new for him. However, Kol must attend class and he needs to practice decorum. He was already held back a grade due to his illness and he won't be able to progress further until he shows he's ready both academically and socially."
Hayley squeezes her embarrassed husband's hand. "We've been a little worried about his friends. Can you tell us who he's been hanging out with?"
"Yes, of course. I found he lingers towards the older boys, they're juniors and seniors. A few of them repeat seniors."
"What does that mean?" Elijah asks.
"They didn't pass last year, so they're back again. The group tends to be a little rowdy. There's a reason they didn't graduate, they rarely attend their classes. Oftentimes, security finds them out by the quarry."
"All the way in the woods?"
Mr. Franklin nods. "I speak with these boys' parents as well. I understand it is hard to raise a teenager these days, however this behavior isn't acceptable."
Elijah swallows. "Of course. We'll talk to him about it."
Mr. Franklin shoots them a wary gaze. By this point, Hayley can feel the heat radiating off her husband.
"Thank you for your time, Mr. Franklin," she says. "I promise, you shall see a change in Kol's attitude."
The two raise from their chairs and exit the room. Elijah begins to pace the vacant hallway. Hayley attempts to put a hand on his shoulder, but he's quick.
"Elijah, you aren't raising him like this."
"I look like one of those parents," Elijah makes a face along with the words, as if he's tasted something vile. "The one who lets their child get away with bloody murder."
"You and I both know you aren't. If we had known, this would've been squashed earlier."
"He's making the entire family look horrid."
"Elijah…" He continues pacing. "Elijah!" She grabs his arm, forcing her husband to look at her. Irritation is written in his eyes. "I understand you are upset right now, but the family name isn't what's important right now."
"Of course it is…"
"Our son is acting out. We need to get to the reason behind it, and then discipline for his actions."
"Yes, that's exactly my point."
"If you start on him humiliating the Mikaelson name, he's not going to understand you care about him."
Elijah softens a bit. "Of course I care about him, he's my little boy."
"Then don't mention the Mikaelson name. I highly doubt he is doing this to embarrass the family name. He's a teenage boy."
Elijah sighs, slowly nodding. Hayley relaxes a bit herself.
"Let's go. We told him to wait in the gym."
She locks her hand in his as they walk down the stairs. Elijah attempts to open the door, but it doesn't budge. Hayley frowns.
"Why would they lock this and not the other rooms?"
Elijah pulls away from her and puts both hands on the door. He groans. Hayley tilts her head as he looks back at her.
"He used his magic to lock it."
Hayley's mouth drops. "He used magic? In school? Someone could've caught him!"
"I don't think that was on his mind." Elijah shakes his head. "Where did Mr. Franklin say those little hellions like to gather?"
"The quarry. I'll text Marcel and see if he knows where it is."
Elijah holds out a hand to stop her from pulling out her phone "No need. I know the spot."
Kol leans against the log, dangling his feet into the water. Tate sits beside him, passing over the bottle of vodka. Kol takes a long sip, a lazy smile falling across his face. The group gathers around the quarry, some splashing around and others smoking a cigarette on shore. Tate takes the bottle back and sips it himself.
"You sure you can't come to that party tomorrow?"
Kol shakes his head. "My parents are having a ton of people over. There's no way I can sneak out."
Tate scoffs. "They sound kind of lame."
A familiar, feminine voice comes from behind the group. "I don't know about that, I'd say I'm a cool mom."
Kol tenses up. He can hear the alcohol being thrown into bags and cigarettes smashed into the ground. Kol still doesn't move. Even as his friends scurry off for their cars, he stays frozen in place. His eyes stay on the water, refusing to look back at his parents'.
"Kol," his father says. "Come here."
"No."
"Excuse me?"
"No! You just embarrassed me in front of my friends! I'm not going anywhere with you!"
Hayley's voice comes into the picture. "You think us showing up is embarrassing? I could've just as easily done this in front of them."
Kol barely makes out the whoosh before she's by his side. His mom pulls him up by his ear and lands three firm smacks onto his jean-clad bottom. Kol squirms, trying to get away. Hayley keeps a tight hold on his ear. Soft, kind mama is gone. In her place is his strict mother that a part of him is a little scared of.
"Mama!"
"Don't Mama me," she lectures. "You are in so much trouble, right now. Do you wish to make it worse on yourself?"
Kol manages to pull off, nearly stumbling into the water. Elijah appears on his other side and grabs him. "Stop! I'm not leaving!"
"Your friends are gone," Elijah points out. "What purpose do you have here?"
"It's far away from the lot of you!"
It's his dad's turn to pop his bottom twice. Kol jumps.
"Stop it!"
"That is the last thing I am going to do. Once we get home, your bottom is in for it."
"Fuck off!"
The quarry grows quiet for only a moment. Kol goes from upright to over his father's knee in a matter of five seconds. He struggles against him.
"Not here! What if someone sees?!"
"Everyone is gone," Elijah says calmly as he unbuttons his son's jeans and pulls them down. He lays down five firm smacks. "And even if they weren't…" SMACK! SMACK! "You should've thought of that sooner."
"Ahhh!" Kol bangs his fist against the log his father sits on. "No!"
"You seem to think that's an acceptable answer, I can't imagine why." Elijah grips his boxers. Kol struggles against him, throwing his hands back. His father pins them both to the top of his head. "Now, now, you know better than that."
SMACK!
SMACK!
SMACK!
"Stop! Fuck! Ow!"
"You are only digging a deeper hole for yourself," Elijah lectures, peeling down the boxers. He smacks his hand down to each cheek. Kol turns bright red, looking around to make sure everyone is truly gone. "Not only did I get a terrible report from your teacher, you used magic in public, snuck off and then you talk back?" SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! "Cursing at that! I don't know where this behavior has come from, but it is not acceptable!"
Kol grinds his teeth, not letting up with his struggle. That only makes it worse. Elijah paddles his hand up and down his bottom. It doesn't take long for it to warm up beneath.
"I have all day," his father says. "The longer this takes, the worse the rest would be."
A smack hits his sit spot. "Ahh!" Kol whines, pounding his fists once more. "Okay, okay! I won't fight you!"
That doesn't end the spanking. Even as Kol stills, Elijah lays down ten more smacks. Kol's entire body burns. His father pulls up the boxers followed by the jeans. It smarts only slightly, likely will heal by the time they get home.
Kol isn't foolish enough to think it's over.
Elijah stands him up, holding him by his arm. "When we get back to the house, you will sit on your naughty stool with soap. Then your mother and you will have a discussion with her slipper."
Kol pouts, wiggling in his grasp. "No!"
"There's that word again," Hayley tsks. "You don't get a choice in the matter."
"I hate you both!"
"You are entitled to your feelings. That doesn't change what's about to happen."
Elijah keeps a grip on him as they lead him over to the car. Kol stares at the ground, his pout remaining. His father hasn't been this upset with him in years, not since long before Hayley entered the picture. This may be the first time he knows he's disappointed his mother.
The door opens and Kol climbs inside. Hayley does his belt up for him. Kol folds his arms over his chest, only squirming a little due to his sore bottom. The hand will be nothing compared to his mother's slipper…
Timeout is potentially Kol's least favorite punishment. At least a spanking is over within a few minutes. All he has to focus on is the pain and the lesson he's learning. Timeout means he's alone with his thoughts longer. There's nothing to distract him. He supposes that's the point.
The stool makes it worse. He's lower to the ground, his knees curled up as he stares at the wall, luckily getting to keep his pants. This time, a bar of wet soap is stuck in his mouth. He tries to hold his breath to prevent the suds from dripping down, but it's useless. His sharp teeth make indents on the bar and the disgusting taste seems up into his gums. Mama added that halfway through timeout.
"We're going to wash those naughty words right out of there."
Kol tried to clamp his mouth shut and avoid it, but she was quick. He knows he's messed up when she's not trying to tell Elijah to go easy on him. Even worse if she's got her slipper ready.
He hates the stupid slipper. That and the spoon make him feel like a big baby. The paddle and brush hurt, but at least it's something his dad would use on Klaus or Rebekah. There's something about being reminded that even with Rebekah being younger than him, he's the youngest. He's the baby. He has a mama and daddy.
He's not the big bad original he pretends to be. He's just a little boy who needs his parents.
Kol sits up straighter when he hears his parents entering his bedroom once again. Elijah kneels in front of him with a wastebasket. He barely gets the words out before Kol spits. The young boy rubs at his tongue, making a face.
"May I brush my teeth?"
"Not quite. You need to keep that taste in there for a bit," he says.
Kol groans. "I'm sorry I swore, okay? I won't do it again!"
"You best not. But you didn't only get it for your foul language to me and your mother. You seemed to have a few choice words for your teacher, hm?"
Kol squirms under the disappointment gaze of both his parents. "I…I was only joking."
"You cannot call your teacher an "old toad"," Hayley says, folding her arms over her chest. "That is not a joke."
"Mr. Franklin doesn't have a sense of humor!"
"You ruined your assignment and he was trying to give you an alternative. Which, frankly, is more than you deserved in that moment."
Kol huffs. "No one wanted to do the stupid dissection. I was just…" He trails off.
Hayley and Elijah tilt their heads. Kol shakes his own, pushing himself up off the stool. Elijah rises right along with him.
"Can you please just spank me and this can all be over?"
"No," Hayley says. "You finish that thought."
"But…"
"Kol Mikaelson," she warns, raising a brow.
Kol frowns. "I just…I wanted to make them laugh."
Elijah furrows his brows. "Laugh?"
"'Tis just a prank. I didn't expect Mr. Franklin to get all bent out of shape over it. Everyone was laughing and having a good time. Then he started on me and suddenly, they were laughing at me and not with me."
Elijah sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Kol, they're just children…"
"It was still embarrassing!" Kol argues. "So, I made them start laughing with me again."
"You could've avoided the whole incident without releasing the frog to begin with."
"Easy for you to say! I'm trying to make friends here!"
Hayley frowns, taking a step forward and putting a hand on his shoulder. Kol pulls away from her.
"You make me go to that stupid school, you made me move away from everyone."
Elijah shakes his head. "We had no other choice, Little Prince…"
"Well, I'm doing what I can to adjust."
"This isn't the way. If you have to act out to impress them, then they are not the company you want to keep."
"That's so easy for you to say! God! You don't get it!"
Kol stomps over to his bed and throws himself face down. He rubs at his tongue, desperately wanting to get the taste out. Both sides of the bed sink in beside him.
"I do," Hayley whispers, rubbing his back. Kol barely peeks his eyes up to look at her. "I was the new girl quite a few times when I was in foster care. It wasn't very fun."
"That's different," he mumbles.
"It wasn't. Until I found my pack, I didn't fit in anywhere. It's hard to be supernatural amongst humans." Kol shrugs. "It is very easy for us to say, but your father is right, those people aren't your real friends. Not if they don't love you for who you truly are."
Elijah nods. "You have come so far, Little Prince. You shall not regress because of some bullies."
"I'm not being bullied," Kol whines.
"Regardless. You will find your group. You just need to give it time." Elijah runs his fingers through his hair. "While going to class and respecting your teachers, alongside your parents."
Kol grabs his special pillow and hugs it close to his chest. "Other kids don't need their mama and daddy so much."
"You aren't other kids. You're Kol." He kisses the top of his son's head. "And that's okay."
Kol frowns. "I'm sorry I cussed…and said I hated you…I didn't mean it."
Elijah isn't sure why his heart lightens. He didn't take Kol's threats seriously…or maybe a part of him did.
"I know you didn't, Little Prince."
"I'll apologize to Mr. Franklin."
"Yes, you will. You're also going to make up all the work you missed from all your classes when you ditched."
Hayley nods. "And we'll be checking on your progress every week, making sure you're attending and behaving properly."
Kol sighs. "Yes, Mama."
Hayley lifts him onto her lap and cuddles him close for a moment. Kol looks up at her with wide eyes, pouting.
"Are you really going to spank me with the slipper?"
"Yes, I am. Then, you'll finish your homework and write your letter. Once that's done, you'll have dinner, bath and bedtime."
Kol sighs again. Hayley unbuttons his jeans and pulls them down before laying him over her lap. His boxers are pulled down next. Hayley reaches to her foot and grabs the slipper. Kol isn't prepared for the first smack to his sit spot. He whines, kicking his legs. Hayley batters his thighs with it. That doesn't still him as she moves back to his bottom. As per her routine, she starts at the top of his left cheek and makes her way down.
THWAP!
THWAP!
THWAP!
"Ahhh!" Kol cries out. "Mama!"
"Why are you getting this spanking?" Hayley moves to the right.
"Owww! Ow!"
"Kol…"
"Ouchie!" Kol cries out, his eyes already burning with tears. "I…I…was disrespectful and used magic in public…Owwie!...I've been running off…a…and…Ahh! I used naughty words!"
Hayley nods, resuming the spanking. Kol's cheeks grow wet as his bottom burns beneath the slipper. He clings to his special pillow, inhaling his daddy's cologne.
THWAP!
THWAP!
THWAP!
"Ouchie! Mommy!" Kol whines. "I…I'm sorry!"
"I know, Lovebug, I know," Hayley says, her voice sympathetic even as she batters his bottom.
Kol howls as the slipper hits his sit spot twice. The tears continue to fall. He glances in the mirror and sees his bottom has grown bright red. Kol whimpers.
The last few spanks hurt the worse. Hayley switches from each cheek to his sit spot before moving down to her thighs. He isn't kicking his legs anymore, but she does this when she has to teach a very important lesson. Kol sniffles and rubs at his eyes the moment he hears the slipper fall onto the bed. Hayley sits him up on her lap. He yelps, rubbing at his bottom touching her jeans.
"Owwie," he complains.
"Shhh, it's all over, my little pup," Hayley promises, wiping his tears with her thumb. "All is forgiven."
"P…promise?"
"I promise." She kisses his forehead.
Hayley cuddles him close. Kol buries his head in her shoulder. A rough yet familiar hand falls on his shoulder. Kol sniffles as he looks into his daddy's kind eyes.
"Do you want Daddy to put on some lotion?" Kol nods, sticking his thumb in his mouth. "Come here, my sweet little prince."
Elijah gathers him in his arms and hugs him tight. Kol clings to his shirt.
"You still love me?"
Elijah nods, kissing his forehead. "Of course I do, I always will."
"Even when I'm naughty?"
"Especially then." He taps his nose. "Let's get some lotion on that sore bottom. I have a feeling you'll be sleeping on your tummy for a few nights."
Kol rubs at his bum. "I don't like Mama's slipper."
His parents laugh, causing him to whine a little. Elijah tuts, patting his back. "You are not meant to enjoy it. I think that would defeat the purpose of a spanking."
