Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of the thief and the girl who walked on fire. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth do.

Cye warmed his hands in front of the fire. The crackling of the embers drew his attention to it more than it did Cinder.

She rubbed at her feet, the cold slipping through her shoes easily. Her aura being gone didn't help as she continued to shiver and shake.

Cye added another log to the fire before he turned to look at Cinder. His eyes looked at her various cuts and bruises.

"Your hurt badly." Cye said as Cinder said nothing. "Why didn't you tell me? I thought you were a criminal or something." Cye said as Cinder hummed and hugged her knees to her chest.

Cye said nothing. Her eyes continued to dart over everything. Cye was quite curious as to what happened to the girl to make her like this. Cye crossed his arms and sighed while rubbing at his temples.

"Hmm…" Cinder hummed to herself before watching Cye turn to look at her.

"Where did you live before now?" Cye asked as he looked at Cinder. "I lived in Mantle's crater for a bit. I came here to see if I could find some lien to leave." Cye said while he cracked his fingers and then turned to look at her once more.

Cinder closed her amber eyes and shivered. A flood of painful memories came flooding back to her. Cye said nothing and decided to drop the issue at the moment and then rubbed at his covered face.

He knew very well if they stayed out in this cold? They'd freeze to death. Cye didn't want to watch someone freeze to death when it came down to it. Cye cleared his throat for a moment before slowly pushing himself to his feet. He grabbed his weapon from beside the log and turned to Cinder.

"We need to find shelter." Cye said and pulled his hood up and over his head. Cinder caught a flash of auburn hair before the Faunus turned to look at her. "If you would prefer not to freeze out here? I'd come with me so we can find somewhere that isn't covered in ice and snow." Cye stated as he turned, offered his hand to Cinder… And then cast a gaze at the fire.

Cinder pushed herself past him. Cye made only a slight attempt to grab her arm which caused her to flinch and swing her blades at him. Cye dodged the strike and dropped his hand from her right arm.

"Sorry." Cye said and then started to move on. He paused as Cinder looked at the fire.

Cinder turned and kicked snow onto the flames. The fire smoldered for a second and then sizzled as Cinder turned to Cye.

"We should head for mantle." Cinder said as Cye hummed and nodded.

"It will take us a half hour of walking through the snow to get there." Cye put in as Cinder shivered. "Do you think you can make it there?" Cye questioned and got a nod from Cinder.

Cye hummed and then begun walking towards the city. He knew they'd run into Grimm before long. He could deal with them no problem.

"You ever killed a Grimm?" Cye questioned as he readied his weapon. "Because we're going to have to fight them and I don't know if your swords are as good as Nightingale." Cye stated as he hummed and pulled out his weapon.

Cye hummed and then slowly turned to look at Cye. He was quite sure they'd run into more Grimm on the tundra. He was quite curious what beast would greet them. Sam continued to slowly pace through the tundra.

"Do you think you can follow me?" Cye questioned as he flicked a switch on his sword.

Cinder watched the weapon's gears and circuits shifted before the weapon transformed into a gun. Cye looked through the scope of the armament and then rested it on his shoulder as he hummed.

Cye started to walk across the tundra as snow crunched under his boots. He was quite cold, but he had lived here for a while… And he knew how to weather it just find. He sighed and looked up at the moon in the sky.

That was before a howl split the air. Cye looked at Cinder who shook in the cold. Cye waited for a minute and stepped closer.

Cinder looked at him before he reached for his neck and then slowly started to reach for his neck. Cinder expected him to smack her with it.

Cye unfurled the scarf from his face and held the garment out to her.

"Here. I'm not letting you become a popsicle." Cye said as he held out his hand to her.

Cinder blinked and then looked at Cye who waited a moment for her to take it.

That was the start of an odd and unique bond between the duo.
