Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of the thief and the girl who walked on fire. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth do.
Cye didn't turn to engage the guards. A second wasted and he would not catch Cinder. Cye knew Cinder would not hold back like he would, nor would she trust him if he gave her even a SINGLE reason to not believe it.
"Damn it…" Cye muttered to himself, looking over his shoulder with interest.
The guards continued to fire, Cye deflected, only pausing to make sure the bullets hit the wall. He continued on his path without delay. He couldn't stop.
He WOULDN'T stop, Cinder would either be killed or never trust him again if he didn't reach her again. He was well aware of how Atlas just didn't care about children. He didn't hate the country, it wasn't horrible… But he knew for a fact that they didn't go easy on anyone or anything within their borders.
It didn't help for the fact that plenty of the rich in the kingdom could often just wave things under the table. It was one reason he only had an issue from stealing from people that needed it.
He heard the sounds of metal hitting metal as he turned the corner, blinking.
Cinder sent one of the guards across the room with a kick, the other aimed his gun at her. Cye crossed the room in a single bound, leaping off the inert guard to land a kick to his chest.
The guard crumpled as Cye grabbed his gun and shook his head. He turned to Cinder who planted the swords on her hips.
"You're going to get a bullet if they catch you." Cye added as he walked away with Cinder following behind him. "You're rattling the cage. They're going to get more excessive the more you prove your more dangerous." Cye said, clipping the gun to his hip.
"And what do you expect? I give up?" Cinder questioned to which Cye shook his head.
"Make them think you're not strong when you are." Cye responded, pointing a finger at her. "They see a poor, scared, defenseless girl with a mutt like me. They wouldn't have put up much fight." Cye added to which he cracked his neck.
"You're hurting people just like me." Cye heard from Cinder.
"I'm hurting people to watch your back." Cye responded, pausing to look at Cinder before a bullet interrupted them. "I'm a street rat, your… I don't know you, but I know you're not stupid." Cye stated which caused Cinder to blink.
Cye shook his head as he looked down the corner. He could hear the sounds of dozens of guards pounding down the corner.
"You, ok?" Cinder finally asked which Cye hummed.
"Yes, what about you?" Cye questioned to response as he and her rounded the corner. "There's an elevator down the hall. We need to get down there now." Cye added while pulling Cinder with him.
Cye paused to question more about the plan. He knew more guards were going to be here soon. More than they could fight, he could only hope that they lost the scent. If they got to the hanger without a big fight? They'd be able to leave without much of an issue.
"We need to go… Now." Cye added to which he simply rubbed at his eyes, knowing the path ahead was going to be FAR more dangerous than it looked.
Cinder simply followed, guessing that Cye had somewhat of a plan to back up him dragging her through the foul bowels of the structure. They were beginning to get close. There would not be so many guards unless they were closing in on the target at hand. Cinder knew the guards probably considered them dust thieves rather then anything else. It would cause some issues, but also solve some issues.
"You know the fact that they will probably believe we're here for the dust in the group." Cinder stated as Cye nodded while he started to think about what happened.
"Sure, I'm going to guess they're going to block off the tunnels that start to lead the dust channels." Cye stated and then cracked his fingers while he started to lean on the wall.
Still? This plan was just going to be hard to deal with it. Cye could only hope that they didn't have to deal with these guards. The more of them which would slowly pin them down? Cye knew those fights would be rather dangerous. His aura wasn't bulletproof and he doubted hers was either. Cye guessed that the best course of action was to simply avoid it and press onward, hopeful that he got there before he could worry about it.
"We keep moving before they pin us down and kill us." Cye added while he shook his head a moment later. "They get to us before we ward them off? We're all going to be dying in the worst way possible."
