Chapter 17: James's Confession
Sofia
For some time after Amber and Edward left, Sofia sat there quietly glaring hard, icy daggers at the two idiots before her. She wanted to watch them squirm with terror before she would resume. Neither one of them uttered a single word or even the slightest sound as they looked back at her, petrified.
"So," Sofia said coolly. She tried to not smile when both of them jumped at the sound of her voice, knowing that they heard the careful rage at the edges of her tone. "Would either one of you two care to explain what happened just now? I mean, I already know, but I'd like to hear an explanation."
The only one who spoke up was James. She watched as his Adam's apple bobbed up and down as he tried to speak.
"Sofia," James said with heavy remorse. "Okay, I screwed up again by trying to pound in Hugo's ugly face –"
"Ugly?" Hugo looked offended.
James obviously heard him but continued on with his justification. "– but I saw you two on the floor so close to each other and he was touching you. So I just had to beat him. I don't like him close to you, Sofia. I want him out – out of this castle, out of this kingdom, and out of our lives."
"You piece of –" Hugo began to spat, anger swirling in his eyes and turning them into a dark hazel color. "I'll leave if Sofia and Amber goes with me. I'm taking them as far from you as possible, you crazy –"
"You want her to leave with you?" James's voice began to rise. Sofia heard the fear and rage starting to grow, making him look like a lost angry child. "Over my –"
"Stop it," Sofia warned them both. "Hugo, I know that you want to get out of here, and you're welcome to, but I can't leave with you. I'm needed here. I am going to save James and everyone."
"Sofia, please," Hugo rushed. His eyes begged for her to change her mind and rethink his offer. "I finally found you and I'm not going to lose you again. Plea –"
"I've made up my mind long ago, Hugo. I made a promise to try and save everyone, I'm not going to break that promise. I am going to save the kingdom. This kingdom. Your kingdom. Everyone's kingdoms.… However..." Her voice softened at his pleading eyes. "I would be honored if you stayed to help me and remain as my personal guard, but after everything you've been through, I won't try to stop you if you really do want to get away from all of this chaos. I just can't go with you."
Throughout their conversation, Sofia saw James looked back and forth between the two of them. She could tell that he was hurt and baffled by the warm air around her and Hugo.
And she was certain that he didn't like it.
But Sofia knew it was his fear that was getting to him. His fear that Hugo might win her heart somehow, that he'll lose her and be left brokenhearted.
"…. Alright," Hugo said after several minutes of contemplating silence. "I'm not going to let more than three years of trying to find you go to waste. I'm not leaving until you say that you want to go too."
"N-n-no!" James cried, his eyes were wide and frantic now. "Sofia –"
James looked like he was ready to explode at any moment now, and she knew that it was because her conversation with Hugo was getting to him. She remembered how James admitted that he never liked her around 'Cyrus' or any other boys.
I guess I need to talk to James without Hugo, I don't want another fight to break out between them. And maybe, with Hugo gone, I can get honest answers from James.
"Hugo, can I talk to James alone please?" Sofia politely asked, looking over at her clock. "It's well past midnight now, go back and get some rest. Tell everyone else to go to bed too and for Amber to not worry about me."
"Alright," Hugo said, rising from his spot on the floor. "But, please think over my proposal. I'll wait as long as it takes for me to get a 'yes' out of you."
"'Yes'? 'Yes' for what?" James frantically asked, glaring hard at Hugo's retreating back. Then James turned his hurt and angry glare at Sofia when the door was firmly shut closed. "What was that about his proposal? Hmm? Sofia, explain to me!"
"Don't you dare yell at me, James," Sofia angrily said, letting all of the bitter emotions she didn't understand return to her. "I am in no mood to hear you shout and scream at me after what I learned."
She began to rise from her seat on the ground. Her butt became numb from sitting for so long on the hard marble floor. She knew that her short walk back to her chair was going to kill her in agony, but she didn't want to give James the satisfaction of seeing her weak especially after how she chastised him.
"What?" James asked, standing with her. "What did that jackass tell you?! Whatever he said to you, they're all complete lies. He just wants to make you hate me! What did he say?!"
"Hugo told me enough, James," Sofia said, concentrating on walking tall and not showing any signs of pain on her face. "He said that you tried to keep me and Amber hidden away from everyone. That you spelled Baileywick from telling anyone where our location was."
The pain grew too great for her, it stung like her legs were being cut open with a rough piece of glass. The burning returned with full force, quickly building at the bottoms of her feet and rising like a powerful wave up past her waist until it reached the pit of her stomach. Sofia was sure that she would end up paralyzed from the waist down after this.
No tears, no pain. No tears, no pain, Sofia chanted in her head. She didn't want any tears to escape her eyes, as if the moment they fell down her cheeks then she would have to acknowledge her pain. No tears, no pain.
By no matter how determined she was, the immense pain was too much. Giving up on trying to reach her chair, Sofia grabbed hold of her one of her bedposts and sat down near the foot of her bed. She relished on the immediate relief her bed gave her and her legs the moment she sat down.
"And he said that you've been in other women's beds," Sofia said after trying to compose herself through her pain and fierce animosity. She dropped her hands onto her lap and stared as blankly back at James as possible. "Is that a lie? Was any of what I just said a lie?"
James remained where he stood, the color drained from his face. He looked completely scared of her, like whatever he might say next will either make her hate him or run into Hugo's awaiting arms.
A part of her was glad to see him so afraid, telling her that James deserves at least this much for keeping that secret from her. Her angry emotions thrived on seeing James's scared reaction, liking that she could produce this type of emotion out of James. But another part was ashamed at herself and regretted making James this scared. She didn't want him scared, she would never want to be the one to do this to James. She just wants him back in her arms, to know that he could find security and love in her like she would find it in him.
But at the moment, her bitterness wouldn't fade and refused to let James see her waver against him. It wanted her to remain stubborn and angry.
"Just tell me the truth," Sofia said, her tone harsh and bitter. But the longer she stared into James's wide, frightened eyes, she felt her shoulders slumped and slouched further into her lap. Her determination to remain mad and upset at James was fading ever so slightly and she felt herself willingly releasing some of her boiling rage. "I'm not mad at you, James."
And when those words left her mouth, Sofia was surprised at how true the words rang to her heart.
Sofia wasn't mad at James, she was mad at the fact that she's never going to be his first.
This kind of thought never crossed her mind before. It wasn't like she was ignorant of what can happen at night between a man and woman, Sofia is an educated princess after all. It just wasn't in her nature to think about it.
But he was her true love and, when she was ready and sure that the time was right, she was going to let him have her. She was going to let him be her first and was hoping that she might be his as well. She would have liked to know that they were going to experience their first times together.
"Yes, it is," James replied, his voice was strained and thick with an unrecognizable emotion. "I did try to hide you and Amber away…. And I have been… with other women… before you, Sofia."
Before me… there was women before me…. Sofia let the words sink in. She felt the small hope that wanted to believe that what Hugo told her was a lie break into small minuscule pieces. I know that James is a guy and was well sought after, so it shouldn't be so surprising to know that he has had past relations with other women. But it won't get rid of the hurt and… jealousy?
Yes… jealous… I'm jealous! Sofia thought, surprised to find herself feeling this type of emotion. Never in her many years has she ever felt a jealousy this strongly before. I'm jealous that some girl was with James for his first time and I can't be! That we can't share it together and make it special! I'm jealous that he's been with other girls before me!
"Why…?" Sofia asked, not fully ready to let her bitterness and mild rage die just yet.
She didn't know which question to ask first, unsure if she really wanted to hear either one of the two. The latter question could burst a door of answers she might want to hear while the first would bring with it a storm of answers about the evil that resides in the castle.
Was she even ready to hear them?
"Why what?"
Best if I left the second one for last… I'm already hurt enough as it is.
"Why did you try to hide us from everyone? Hugo told me that you forbid anyone from trying to contact us." Sofia saw a small amount of relief flash before his eyes, as if he was glad to push back the one topic that remained on the top of her mind for the moment. "And be honest with me, James."
James
James was glad that she didn't try to push the issue of his unchaste past any further for the moment, but a bitter aftertaste filled his mouth as he realized that to explain why he exiled them away, he would have to tell her about the voice in his head.
He had hoped that he would never have this conversation with anyone, especially with Sofia, but he had no choice. She wanted the truth, and, knowing Sofia, she wouldn't accept anything less.
But… James just couldn't bring himself to tell her the truth. He would do anything for her, but this? This was the one thing he didn't want to do; to give her the truth and see the aftermath of it all. It was like he was holding onto a massively unstable magical bomb and in any minute now, it would explode right in his face.
"James," he heard Sofia say, impatience ringing in her voice after he didn't reply for several moments. "Tell me the truth."
Letting out an upset and irritated sound as he ran his hands through his hair and disheveling it even more than it already was; he was frustrated at her and himself.
"I can't, Sofia," James answered defeated. "I can't tell you truth."
"Why?" she replied even angrier than before. "Why can't you?"
"I just can't."
"James, it's not that you can't." She glared up at him, her red lips pressed into a furious, thin line. "It's that you won't." James could tell that she was purposefully trying to provoke an answer out of him.
"Okay, fine," James spat. "I won't tell you."
"And why not, James?"
"Because, Sof! I never wanted you to learn this stuff about me!" he yelled at her, ignoring that she told him to not scream at her. "My past isn't something that I'm proud of, Sofia! I don't want you to know that for about two or three years, I had a line of women coming and going from my bed and that I purposefully tried to keep you guys hidden away from everyone!"
"I already know that!" Sofia shouted back at him. "I already know that this stuff isn't pretty! But I want to learn more about you if I'm going to help you! So just get over yourself, James, and stop trying to keep this a secret from me! I want the secrets out!"
"Secrets?" James bitterly snapped, not liking how she was accusing him of keeping secrets when she was doing the same thing. "What about you, Sofia? You can't call me out on keeping secrets when you won't even tell me who helped you realize that you love me."
"Don't turn this around on me, James!" she angrily yelled back. "My situation and your situation are two totally different things! And the secrets I hold aren't even mine to tell!"
"So?!" James was growing more frustrated and upset as their loud conversation continued on. And through his fog of frustration, it dawned on him that for as long as he's known Sofia, she has always been keeping a secret from him! Even when they were kids, she's been hiding something from everyone around her. As kids, whenever he would try to ask her about this, she would just behave weirdly and shoo him away. "Sofia! You're being such a hypocrite! You can't demand secrets from me and not tell the truth yourself! It's not fair!"
Their shouts and yells at one another continued on, the volume of their angry voices rising by the minute. Glares and heated barks were thrown back and forth, neither appearing to relent in this argument between them.
"This isn't even about me, James! It's about you and your buckets of girls and secrets!"
James stepped forward and leaning his face close to hers so that she could hear the determination in his voice. "Well, I'm making it about the both of us now."
Either they were going to leave this room without spilling one of their secrets or they were going to remain here until they do.
"I can't believe you," Sofia seethed, the angry fire in her eyes blazing strong and hard. "Why are you even making this about me too?"
Because I want to be the one to carry your secrets, too, an honest and small part of his mind spoke.
He was surprised at how true his subconscious thought rang. James wanted Sofia and him to stand equal with one another, that if she was to help him carry his secrets than it should only be fair that he helps carry hers too. That is fair. He was determined to be her prince, and this was just one way he knew how to be one.
Suddenly an idea popped into his head. James realized that most of the problems between him and Sofia all stemmed from him trying so hard to keep his secrets hidden. If he truly wants to make his relationship with Sofia better, then he needs to get this all out – no matter how painful it's going to be.
"This is about us, Sofia," James said, trying to soften his voice so that she would calm down. "I'm making this about us. You want to know my secrets so that you can help me, but I'm doing this now so that I can help our relationship."
"Our relationship? What about it? We're soulmates, James. So?"
"You said that you wanted all of my secrets out, right?" James began to negotiate. "Fine, I'll tell you whatever you want to know as long as you tell me what I want to know. I want the secrets between us gone. If the air between us is honest and clear, then I know that we'll have something great."
He carefully watched her expression as she stared up at him, her brows were furrowed and her eyes searched his own. She was so deep in thought that her expression was clear and unguarded, he could practically see the motors of her mind working.
After several minutes of silence, James heard her say, "I think you're right. To be fair to you and our relationship, I'm going to need to tell the truth too. But, I can only tell you what I can. I have to respect my friend's right to secrecy."
"Alright, fair enough," James warmly smiled down at her. "We'll take turns explaining our secrets and –"
"You first," Sofia cut him off, her expression calm and decisive. Without waiting for a response from him, Sofia immediately asked, "tell me why you tried so hard to hide us away from everyone."
James had to think long and hard, trying to find a clear and understandable way to explain his actions to her. He agreed with himself that he would tell her, but how exactly? How could he even say to her that the very reason why they were exiled away was because the voice in his head forced him to do it? That for the very first year after they were removed from the castle, his mind was in a state of fog and murkiness?
"I… I hid you guys away because it was the best way to protect you all," James admitted.
"Protect us from what, James?"
He didn't reply immediately. He couldn't.
Crap, this is a lot harder than I originally thought it would be. I knew that it was going to be hard, but not this hard.
His throat was so tight and dry, as if his own body didn't even want him to tell her everything. But he knew he had to if he wanted to make everything he had with Sofia right.
James drew himself even closer to Sofia, standing between her legs and brushing some of her loose hair away from her round cheeks. He saw that the angry fire in her eyes diminished a little, they still burned bright in her eyes but not as furiously as before. They didn't look like they were ready to burn him anymore, instead they were warm and soothing to look into.
"From me. From the monster in my head."
There I said it, James mentally prepared himself for the backlash of shock and disgust. Ready to see the love of his life turn him away as some sick, mentally insane patient.
But he didn't see any of that.
He only saw Sofia look calmly up at him like she was waiting for him to continue on. He saw no disgust, no pity, nothing. Just her neutral expression. It was as if she already knew what he was going to say.
"Keep going," Sofia softly encouraged when another moment passed between them in silence, reaching out and pulling him down beside her on the bed.
But James didn't know where else to go from there. How can he further explain the voice?
I guess I should just start from the beginning….
Taking her hand, James carefully intertwined his fingers with hers. "That monster in my head is the reason why I killed dad. Why I killed everyone that night. It controlled me to take the throne. And after that, the voice kept trying to make me go and kill you and Amber."
"Kill me and Amber?" Sofia quietly gasped. "Why?"
He was slightly glad to see some reaction from her, but it was all too bitter for him to welcome. It was hard to see the fear quickly rush into her eyes when his words registered to her. A wave of pain washed over his heart when he saw how scared she looked, it hurts to know that he was responsible for the look of fear on her.
"I don't know why it wanted me to kill you guys," James strained to say. His voice sounded hard and choked to his own ears. "It told me to kill dad because he cheated on my mom, but it never gave me a reason to kill you or Amber. It just kept telling me and trying to make me slaughter you all and take all of the jewels."
"But you didn't," she whispered.
"I couldn't." James brought their interwoven hands to his lips, kissing her knuckles. "I couldn't bring myself to do it. I couldn't kill you, Amber, or Mom. I mean, Amber may be some annoyingly spoiled princess but she's still my sister and I love her. I love Mom, too. I love you even more. I may not have known it at the time, but I just loved you too much to even think of hurting you in any way. I could never hurt you. And with whatever will I had in me, I managed to resist the voice's command to kill you guys and just sent you all away. I figured that if you guys were exiled from the castle, then you and Amber and Mom were safely away from the voice's reach. It was my way of protecting you all."
And oddly enough, the longer he talked and explained himself to her, the easier it became for him to continue on. The burden and heavy weight he would always feel on his shoulders grew lighter, like it was being lifted off.
He felt lighter. Freer.
But he knew better than to rejoice in the fact that Sofia now knows about the voice in his head. And soon, she'll learn of his inner demons.
"After I exiled you guys, the voice got pissed as hell at me," he said, tightening his grip on Sofia's hands. "It tried to make me bring you all back, but I managed to outsmart it. I had Baileywick determine your specific location. All I knew was that you were put into the countryside on the outskirts of the kingdom. Taking even more precaution, I had Cedric put a spell on Baileywick and himself so that they couldn't tell anyone of your location unless I said so. And I made Cedric enchant himself so that he couldn't reverse the spell unless I permitted it. I even burned the paper that had the reverse spell."
"If you had all of these precautions, why did you even forbid anyone from trying to contact me or Amber?"
Taking a deep breath, James said, "During the battles for the other kingdoms, one of my spies informed me that some of the princes and princesses wanted to drag you and Amber right into the middle of the chaos as leverage against me. I couldn't have that happen because even if they didn't know where you all were, I knew that they wouldn't stop until you guys were found and brought back to Enchancia. I couldn't have that, so I made a proclamation that no one could try to find or contact you or Amber or Mom."
"And that kept everyone from trying to find us?" Sofia asked.
"The death sentence did. I threatened anyone and everyone that if they were to contact you guys, I would have them all killed for treason."
"Killed?" Sofia looked at him with wide eyes. "Why go to such extremes? Was it because of the voice?"
"Kind of," James solemnly said. "For the first few months after your exile, the voice would continuously drag my mind through hell, just trying to convince me to bring you back. I don't know why it only wanted you. It used every tactic imaginable to persuade me. But I realized that if I kept my mind busy, I can keep the voice away. So since it wanted control of everything, I just went out and conquered every kingdom because it kept my mind occupied. And at first, just the military combats and tactics were enough to occupy my mind but the voice was so damn persistent. It got to the point where I was so desperate that I did practically anything and everything I could to keep it away. So I went on a killing spree, I sent out death sentences, I ordered so many innocent people to be imprisoned and killed. Their lives and blood are on my hands, Sofia."
James didn't know what else to feel except for shame and utter regret. He wishes he could wash his hands of all of the blood that coat it like a large glove, but he knows that he can't. He couldn't change his past.
The only thing he can do is try to continue on forward and hope that Sofia will always be at his side. But to ensure that she will be, she needed the truth from him.
"But I already know that. Everyone knows of how many lives you had killed," Sofia said, grimly confused. "And I understand now, the voice made you kill."
"No, you don't." James shook his head low. "After that night, I was in control of every single one of my movements. Everything I did, I was in control. The voice tried to make me do things but because I kept my mind busy, it couldn't control me. Killing people and conquering kingdoms was just one of the ways I kept busy. I selfishly took lives because it kept me busy…. Sofia, I've lost count of how many people I personally killed with my own two hands."
He watched as her eyes grew wider as she gaped at him in pure shock. James could take it as a small victory that she didn't rip her hands away or try to run, but it still hurt to see the disgusted horror in her eyes.
"Y-y-yo-you killed everyone? Not the voice?" She pointed a shaking finger at him. "On purpose?"
"Yes…." James bleakly answered back as she stared at him. "I don't know how many people I ordered dead, nonetheless how many people I killed with my own two hands."
A long silent moment passed between them as she took in this new information. And the longer the silence grew, James could feel each and every part of his heart being consumed with dread and fear.
Then her eyes narrowed at him, the corners of her lips turned down. It was like the horror changed into something bitter.
"…And what about the girls?" she asked him in a low voice.
"They were another way for me to keep busy," James replied, so much more shame washed over him that he felt like he could drown in it.
If the situation between them wasn't so tense, James would have laughed at the fact that this was the toughest topic he could talk about. Not the issue of the monster voice in his head.
"You didn't love any of them?"
"No! I never loved a single one of them." James rushed forward and cupped her face, looking deep into her eyes. How could she even think that? "The reasons why I was even in bed with them was because I was either celebrating about conquering another kingdom and got drunk off my ass or because I was looking for some kind of companionship. But they were all a way for me to keep the voice out of my head. I was lonely out there and I needed someone, and those girls were just there. But I never loved any of them."
Sofia stared back at him, her eyes now vulnerable and afraid. But he saw a glimmer of some kind of light dash across her eyes, giving him a small ray of hope in his heart.
"Please," James tried. "Believe me. I never loved any of them. And this all happened before I realized my feelings for you. I was just young and stupid, looking for some form of love anywhere I could get it." His feelings were overwhelming him now. They wanted to burst out and try to make Sofia understand him. "I love you. And I'll only ever love you."
"James…." Sofia's voice was so soft and low, lighter than a whisper. "I believe you…. I know that you would never try to hurt or betray me in any way. This all happened before me, before there was even an 'us', and I can't change past. Your actions were because you were angry and lost, and because of that voice in your head."
And a rush of relief overcame his heart, filling it until he was sure his heart would overflow.
"But," she continued on, and it was like someone suddenly stopped the flow of wonderful relief to his heart and replaced it with dread.
"But what?" James saw Sofia's demeanor change. Her clear, icy blue eyes turned dangerous and… and possessive….
The bed shifted as he watched Sofia rise onto her knees, breaking his hands' contact from her, and looked down at him with dangerously burning eyes. She leaned in close, cupping his face. Some of her loose hair fell around him like a curtain of lush brown. She hovered her lips just above his, teasing him with soft and subtle brushes on his bottom lip.
"But, I still don't like knowing that you were with other girls before me," Sofia said, staring at him. Her voice was smoky and breathy as she looked down at him, a sexiness he didn't expect from her. But he could hear a hidden vulnerability beneath it all. "Honestly, James, I am just as possessive of you as you are of me. I am selfish and I want all of you. So I really don't like knowing that there is another girl out there who was your first."
James was at a loss for words.
This was a side of Sofia he has never seen before. She was dominating, controlling, and… and just utterly sexy. Every word that she said, she would intentionally run her lips over his just to tease and unravel him.
Oh how his body was wrecked with desire for her. His hands itched just to capture her face or to wrap them around her curving body. His mouth wanted to seize her apple red lips and kiss them until they swell.
"I was jealous of that girl. Of all the girls." He felt her dance a finger on his gaping mouth, tracing his bottom lip. "I'm still jealous. I don't like knowing that you were in bed with other girls. After all of this, I will make sure that we burn your mattress and get you a new one. I'm sorry, but I'm just being honest. I never knew of this-this jealous and selfish side of myself before, it's new to me. It popped up after I was told that you had a line of girls in your bed and I'm just going through the motions here, and so far, the only thing that makes sense to me right now is to make sure that you understand that you're mine, James."
Shit, that was the sexiest thing I've ever heard… James thought, wanting to just cover Sofia's face in kisses. He felt like laughing after what he heard her just say. She's just as greedy as I am…. She wants me to be only hers…. She's jealous that I've been with other girls…. She's jealous of them….
The thought of Sofia being jealous and greedy is hilariously mind boggling! This is Sofia for crying-out-loud! She's never like this!
But, she is. She's being selfish and greedy and stingy for me! She just admitted that she's as possessive as me!
"Okay?" she frowned down at him. "Just like I'm yours, you're mine. Promise me, James."
A small laugh escaped from James as he stared up at Sofia. He could just double over in laughter right about now.
He liked this. He liked seeing her be so selfish.
It sort of evens them both out, leaving him on an equal playing field with her.
He wanted to see more of this side from her. He wanted to hear her be so jealous that she would want to claim him as hers. It was good to know that she desired him like he desired her, that she was avid and greedy. It made him want to be everything she didn't even know she wanted, something she unintentionally craves for….
"I promise," James said, half grinning at her.
"Good," she firmly said. Sofia smirked down at him before pulling him to her, bringing him further into the bed, and kissed him.
Oh, fates… James cursed as he instinctively twisted and turned his body so that he could kiss her easier. I'll never get tired of this… of her lips….
His arms wrapped around her lower waist, crushing her against him. Sofia remained leaning over him on her knees, kissing him with a ravenous need. It was like she was trying to satisfy a starving desire within herself. James understood that it was more her trying to mark him as hers, but he couldn't help but like how it was feeding his own passion for her, making him grow famished and wolfish.
And the longer his wanting for her grew, the more aware his body would become. His entire body became electric at how hard she pressed herself to him and how she rested her legs on both sides of his thighs. Her lower stomach warmed and heated his upper chest as his arms embraced her.
He hugged her body towards him with so much force that he broke his own balance and they tumbled back onto her bed. His arms were tightly around Sofia and their lips never broke contact. James felt himself fall backwards with Sofia on top of him, her hands flew out and braced themselves on both sides of his head.
With her on top of him, James's hands went up and tangled his fingers into her hair, undoing her braid. He let her hair free and enjoyed how they curled around him in waves of perfectly messy brown tresses.
The longer they continued to kiss, he realized how much bolder Sofia became. He felt her lips trail down and trace his jawline, leaving delicious marks and making his entire being shiver at the touch of her lips.
"Sofia…" James's raspy voice groaned.
This was what none of the other girls could do. They could never make his entire body and soul react to them the way Sofia was doing to him right now.
Damn... James blissfully cursed.
It was only Sofia. It could only ever be Sofia.
She is the only person who could undo and unmake him. Her touches and kisses are pure bliss to him. He would never be deserving of them but she make him feel like he was. Every kiss she gave and word she said was filled with a love that none of the other girls could ever manage to give him.
Beneath his hands, he felt her body jolt at his voice and stiffened. She immediately sit up, straddling his lower torso, and looked down at him with reddened cheeks. Her eyes were big and wide with embarrassment.
James couldn't help but give a half smile at how adorable she looked, blushing red cheeks and swollen lips that matched well with her blue eyes.
"Wait," Sofia breathlessly whispered, halfheartedly sweeping her hair aside. "I said I'll tell you the truth. It's only fair."
Oh, right. I almost forgot, James thought.
His eyes followed how his hands trailed down from her curving waist to her thighs. The skirt of her dress was rumpled up, exposing a lot of her long legs and thighs. His fingers lingered just above the hem of her dress, debating on whether or not he should feel how soft her legs could be.
Can we be in this position when you tell me everything?
"Maybe." Sofia smiled at him, placing her hands on his chest.
"Wait, what?" James stared up at her, baffled.
"You asked if we could stay in this position," Sofia said, playfully poking his nose.
Crap! Did I say that out loud?
"Well, can we?"
Lightly laughing at him, Sofia leaned down and kissed his forehead. "Like I said, maybe."
Chapter seventeen! Woo!
As always, a big "thank you" to all of my readers and reviewers! You all have made writing this story so much fun for me.
I'm sorry it took me so long to publish this chapter. I had my first ever college finals and that just completely obliterated my brain. And because I crammed and packed in as much studying as I possibly could, I forget about SPJ and pushed it aside. I'm so sorry...
And now with my chapter, what did you all think? I wanted to make up for the lack of JamesFia moments last chapter and filled it with a little more steamy fluff. How do you all like what I did with Sofia? I wanted to put her and James on an even level with each other, and this is where I kind of ended up.
Since I feel bad that I made you all wait so long for this chapter, I decide to tell you all the next title: Sofia's Confession. You already knew that with how I ended the chapter... But yes, Sofia is telling her secrets! The next chapter will be a little short though but filled with lots of steamy JamesFia moments.
And just like last chapter, if more than ten reviewers guess correctly on what Sofia might confess, I will release the next chapter earlier than usual. That means I can publish it in the next three (pacific time) days or five, but as long as there are ten of you who guess within that time frame. I set ten reviewers this time because I do need some time to edit my chapters.
So, read, review, and good luck.
Thanks :)
