Chapter 9 - Holding out for a Hero
Before his mind could process anything, Kamijou's body was already moving on its own. He walked over to the small commotion and ignored the group of thugs. His plan was simple, he would use his good old secret technique.
"There you are, what took you so long?" Kamijou walked over to the girl with a smile on his face "You got this Kamijou-san worried" he put a hand in his pocket and gestured for the girl, who was still smiling, to follow him.
The group around the two were confused for a moment. From their point of view, these two knew each other, judging by the smile on the pink-haired girl's face when she saw him and the casual way he was acting.
"I'm sorry Kamijou, I just got lost" Said the girl with shocking pink hair. Her voice was sweet, almost like music to the ears.
"No problem. We'd better go now, we're late."
Without warning, the girl simply stood next to him and grabbed his left arm, getting uncomfortably close. Not satisfied, she rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. If Kamijou tried to speak at that instant, he would probably stutter. The spiky-haired "Hero" had to give that girl credit, she was putting effort into her performance. If all the girls he used this trick on played together this well, his trips to the hospital would decrease substantially.
"Hey, wait" One of the delinquents stood in the path of the two. He looked at Kamijou with sharp eyes, it looked like he was analyzing him "You just said Kamijou didn't you? As in Kamijou Touma?"
When the delinquent said this, Kamijou sighed. He knew exactly what would happen next.
"Kamijou Touma" Another delinquent, wearing a white bandana, also stood in the way "It's our lucky day"
All the other delinquents, six in all, began to surround him. The girl didn't seem concerned at all, but Kamijou heard her sigh softly. She leaned her body even more toward his, anyone who saw that scene would be completely convinced that they were a couple.
"That was a good try" The girl whispered in his ear. If he wasn't so alert from being surrounded by delinquents, he would be freaking out right now "How about this. I'll take the left and you take the right. What do you say?"
It happened very quickly. Just as the girl finished whispering those words, she stepped away from the boy and landed a blow on the bandanna-wearing delinquent. It was a high kick, right in the temple, which was more than enough to knock him out judging how he spun comically in the air.
The other delinquents wasted no time. One of them pulled out a knife, which was aimed in Kamijou's direction, who stepped out of the way and hit him with a right hook. In that moment of distraction, one of the street thugs landed a punch in the ribs of the spiky-haired boy, who gritted his teeth. Taking a step back, he realized that two of the thugs were surrounding him. A baseball bat was swung in the boy's direction, and he ducked as he made a wide swing, which knocked the armed offender to the ground and knocked the other off balance. Kamijou kicked the thug's face into the ground, who lost consciousness as his head was almost smashed into the asphalt. Startled by the violence of the blow, the unbalanced bandit could not even defend himself when a right fist hit him in the face, knocking him off the ground and causing him to fall on his back.
In Kamijou's peripheral vision, he noticed when another bandit tried to hit him in the back, but he didn't have to worry. The pink-haired girl moved quickly and grabbed the bandit's neck, giving him an arm wrench.
"That calls for a team effort, don't you think?" Said the girl smiling, as she held the man, who seemed stronger than her, effortlessly.
Understanding what the girl meant, Kamijou walked over to the man and hit him with a punch to the stomach. He didn't hit him with maximum force, but it was enough to make his eyes roll into the back of his head, causing him to lose consciousness.
"That was the last one" Kamijou announced, looking around as he stroked his ribs "Thanks for the help"
"Wasn't I the one who should be thanking you?" She widened the smile on her face and walked slowly toward the boy. Her steps strangely didn't seem to produce a sound "It's a pleasure to meet you Kamijou Touma"
Still smiling, the girl offered a handshake. The strange thing about it was that the girl held out her left hand instead of her right. Kamijou thought about it for a moment, but ended up extending his left hand as well. Maybe the girl was from a country where one greets with the left hand instead of the right, so he didn't want to offend her.
"Nice to meet you..."
"Etsu. Aihana Etsu" She shook his hand enthusiastically
"You fight incredibly well, Aihana-san" He glanced at the other bandits the girl had taken down while he was busy fighting .
"You think so? It's an honor to hear it from you."
"Eh?"
"I mean, you are 'the' Kamijou Touma. The boy said to run around the city at night, knocking out even the mightiest warrior with his clenched fist, and snatching up every girl in his path no matter how young or old."
"Oh my god... not that again" Kamijou was practically melting in place as he rubbed his head with his free right hand, trying to disguise his embarrassment " I swear I'm going to find the person who keeps making up these rumors and have a talk... a very, very 'kind' and important talk"
The girl noticed when the boy clenched his right fist as he finished that sentence. Coming out of his little fit of anger, the boy looked up into the girl's face. She had blue eyes and her smile was bright as a star. There was a gentle expression on that perfectly drawn face, plus one detail that the boy only realized now: a scar. It was not a horrible scar, in fact it was barely visible. It started on her eyebrow and went down, across her intact right eye and almost reached her cheek.
"I know what you're thinking" The girl said. She held the boy's left hand even tighter "That's the only scar I have, on my whole body. The last one left."
The girl's voice was so soft that Kamijou lost himself in it and didn't even realize that his left hand was being guided. Aihana brought the boy's left hand up to her face, and then tilted her head slightly, making him touch her scar with the tip of his thumb, almost as if he were wiping a tear from her face.
"At least the last one on my skin. And that's why I like it so much."
"What? What do you mean?" The boy was a little confused by the girl's assertion that he liked the one imperfection on her angelic face. He almost forgot that he was touching the soft skin of her face.
"That scar helps me remember something" As she said this, she used her left hand to adjust the boy's hand to her face "Can you guess what?"
"I'm afraid I can't"
The girl tilted her face even more, almost as if she were snuggling into the left hand of that boy, who was so close but seemed so far away. She peered her blue eyes into that bluish darkness before she spoke.
"This scar helps me to remember that I am not a monster"
Kamijou was silent. He tried to think of something to say, but his lips seemed to have been sealed. Looking into the girl's eyes, he moved his left hand away, which seemed to make the girl a little disappointed. The reason he did this was because the girl looked away slightly, looking at something behind Kamijou.
"This is not over yet" A male voice interrupted the interaction of those two.
Turning quickly in the direction of the voice, Kamijou realized that the bandanna's delinquent, the first to be knocked out, had returned to consciousness. That didn't worry him, at least not immediately. It was only when he noticed that small plastic bag in his hands that the boy put a confused expression on his face. What was that almost transparent 'Dust'?
"Let's see how you handle this, Kamijou Touma" The bandit tore open the plastic bag, which looked like a sachet of clear ketchup, and poured its contents into his mouth
By reflex, Kamijou extended his left arm in front of the pink-haired girl. The girl stepped back, as if she didn't mind being protected. The spiky-haired "Hero" clenched his right fist once more, and at that instant a bright light dazzled body of the bandana-wearing delinquent was now covered in flames, and to Kamijou's surprise, he seemed to be screaming in pain. That sure was strange. Generally, espers were technically immune to their own ability, or rather, almost all of them had a way to use it safely. It would be useless for someone to be able to conjure a fireball capable of melting metal, if his fragile body could not withstand enough heat to produce it. But that seemed to be the case here.
"Behind me!" shouted the spiky-haired boy, almost shoving the girl.
Kamijou's right hand was raised by pure instinct. If he had taken another half second, he would have been devoured by the sea of flames produced by that delinquent. The fire spread in all directions. Because of the fight from before, the streets were not so busy anymore, so there were only a few students near there, who were not caught in that uncontrolled attack. Like a windshield, the flames were blown away from that boy, and the girl behind him. But that attack was not stopped. The flames continued to be produced, while the Esper behind the attack screamed in pain. Not understanding what was happening, Kamijou did the only thing that would make sense in the situation. He advanced towards the offender, who would not even be able to react to what was happening. The pressure on the boy's arm was increasing, but Kamijou had total confidence in that right hand. As long as it was supernatural, it didn't matter if the attack had the power of an atomic bomb, that hand would serve as the ultimate shield, it would destroy and return everything to zero. And that's what he did.
"What's going on?" Asked the boy, as he touched the delinquent with his right hand, which caused him to fall to the ground instantly, as if he were a doll that had its strings cut.
Although that poor boy was covered in his own flames a moment ago, he was not so badly injured. His clothes were in terrible condition and his body was full of burns, but he was still breathing. Perhaps if Kamijou had taken longer to touch his AIM field, the thug would have destroyed his own body.
"We'd better go" Aihana Etsu said, as she looked at the fainted esper on the floor "I'll call an ambulance for him" She pulled her cell phone from her pocket.
"I can't just leave him here" Kamijou replied, looking the girl in the eye.
"He'll be fine. The only difference between staying here and leaving is that the first option will draw more attention to us."
The girl put her cell phone away again. She probably used one of the emergency applications that sent her location with a single ring. An ambulance would show up soon, that was for sure, this was Academy City after all.
"You did very well" The girl smiled at him again "You managed to protect even them" She used her open hand to refer to the other delinquents lying there.
The esper that almost destroyed himself caught Kamijou's focus so much that he didn't even realize that those flames could have killed those knocked-out thugs. That was a little strange, he hadn't been paying attention, but he was pretty sure that those delinquents weren't that close to each other. Had the girl done something?
"Still I have to stay. I have to be sure" He couldn't look at the girl for some reason.
"I know" The smile on the girl's face was even more radiant "That was a perfect answer"
With a farewell nod, the girl turned her back to him. Her smile broke in that instant. If the boy approached her now, he would see the pained expression on her face. She started to walk away from the boy who was crouched near the esper, still checking to see if he was still alive.
" I hope we can see each other again soon, Touma-chan" Her voice no longer had that softness, but no matter, those words were not heard by the boy who remained so far away "Please... don't change until then. I still need to be saved "

By late afternoon the next day, the 4 girls of the ITEM group were gathered in the living room. Mugino needed to report that the mission had been accomplished, so she had Frenda take pictures of all the information on that clipboard before they communicated with the ITEM liaison. A few minutes later, a call came in. The TV in the room now displayed a message with the text 'Sound only'.
"We received the information you sent us" The distorted voice began, not bothering with greetings "I have to say that I am indeed impressed. We did not expect that you would be able to accomplish this mission so cleanly"
"Of fucking course" Mugino spat, crossing her arms "Something tells me you gave us this priority mission just to try to screw us"
"You talk as if I'm not part of the same group as you" The voice seemed offended by that "For your information, I was also afraid to give you this mission, but I'm glad to see it accomplished. You even took the trouble to cover your tracks by leaving several security cameras on a loop. That was impressive work"
At that moment the ITEM girls looked at each other. This was not a video call, so they didn't have to worry about the clear confusion on their faces.
"If you thought our work was so good, then I hope to get more varied missions from now on" Mugino said with a smug tone "I'm tired of all the tedious shit you tell us to do"
"hmm... I thought you guys preferred operations with a higher amount of 'action'. I will keep that in mind. Your payment will be deposited soon, I am ending this connection unless you have something to tell me" The woman waited, but they all remained silent "Well then, I will be in touch with a new assignment soon"
The connection was broken. This time level 5 seemed pretty calm, so that TV would survive another day before eventually needing to be replaced.
"Suck on that, bitch" She said this with a smile on her face
"That was super weird" Kinuhata commented. She looked at Level 5 with a doubtful expression on her face "What was that with the security cameras?"
"Basically, I don't remember us having anyone supporting us" Frenda didn't understand what was happening either.
"That's his thing" Mugino said, bringing a hand to her chin "When I asked for those favors, that was one of the reasons it was so hard to find anything about him. Kamijou must have someone backing him, and that person is very good at what it does. As far as I know, he may have more than one actually."
At that moment when Mugino was pensive, her Smartphone started emitting an annoying noise. She reached into her pocket, a little annoyed, but soon she changed her gaze to interest when she saw that she had received a message from a person who did not usually answer hers.
"What the hell?" Level 5's reaction upon reading the message was one of pure confusion
"Any super problems?" Offense Armor tried to glance at the message with the corner of her eye, but Meltdowner put her cell phone away immediately.
"Do any of you know where 'Diamond Dust' is?"
"Diamond Dust? Of course I know where it is. It's that super amusement park in district 11."
"Wait, there's an amusement park in district 11?" Meltdowner was genuinely confused "Doesn't that district just serve as some sort of warehouse? Why on earth would anyone put an amusement park there?"
"I don't know. Some executives are super weird" Level 4 shrugged and then looked Meltdowner in the eye with a mischievous smile on her face "Don't tell me Kamijou asked you on a super date at an amusement park? He seems to like the classics"
"Date?" Frenda was uneasy hearing that word "Basically, I didn't know you guys had that kind of relationship"
Meltdowner was too busy trying to understand why that spiky-haired boy had invited her to such a place, so she completely ignored Kinuhata's banter and Frenda's growing restlessness.
'Does it have anything to do with that 'advantage'?'
In addition, there was something else that Meltdowner didn't miss.
'The name of that mall was 'Emerald Dust' right? Are they all from the same business conglomerate?'
"Sometimes I wish that guy would at least give me more details, but I guess that's the best I can hope for now" She sighed and then finally brought her attention to the two girls "I think I'll be gone for a few hours. Maybe I'll be back before dinner, so if you order food, order me something too...actually, I wonder if I can convince him to cook. He said he would move here, didn't he? What's taking him so long?" Those questions were not asked for the two girls in front of him.
Without waiting for an answer, the Meltdowner left the living room and headed toward her room, leaving the two girls without understanding much of what was going on.

School district 11 was located southeast of Academy city, bordering Tokyo in its southern area. It was mainly used for storage, but for some reason the international business conglomerate known as 'Dust' got permission to build an amusement park near the border.
"So that's how it feels?" Kamijou said that out loud, while looking at the time on his cell phone "I guess I have no right to complain when someone is late but... such misfortune"
Our protagonist was at that moment at the entrance of the 'Diamond Dust' as he watched the happy couples walking by.
'Now that I stopped to think about it...that kind of counts as a date' He shook his head to try to push those thoughts away.
"What am I thinking? As if this Kamijou-san has any chance of having a real date with a girl" He crossed his arms and closed his eyes, ignoring his surroundings "Kumokawa-senpai keeps saying that I have a strange effect on the girls around me, maybe that's why I have no luck with anyone... even Hana-chan who is so kind feels uncomfortable when I'm around... maybe I'm too weird..."
"I agree, only weird people talk to themselves out loud"
The voice that interrupted his thoughts came from very close by. Practically jumping at the interruption, Kamijou opened his eyes to see a Mugino Shizuri standing there with both hands on her waist. She had a serious expression on her face, probably annoyed that she had suddenly been called to that place.
"Mugino?" The boy was clearly uncomfortable "How much did you hear?"
"If you care so much about what people hear about you, then have you tried thinking instead of speaking aloud? It usually works very well."
Kamijou sighed audibly as the girl put an enigmatic smile on her face. She probably hadn't heard much, but she would leave it ambiguous to torture him a little. The boy relaxed his posture as he looked intently at the girl in front of him. Mugino was wearing a black wrap dress that went to mid-thigh, with a classic v-neckline that showed a moderate amount of cleavage. She also had a dark blue sash tied around her waist that accentuated her curvature.
"You've been staring at me for a while now," The girl said, crossing her arms, which only served to accentuate a certain 'hilly region'.
Level 0 looked away at that instant. You could say that Kamijou was lucky he wasn't in a manga, so he didn't have to worry about Mugino seeing him blushing, did he?
"Good thing you came in black" He commented stupidly, trying to hide his embarrassment
"Eh? Is that your best attempt at a compliment?" The girl was clearly disappointed "Seriously, I had expected you to tease me about my choice of clothes, but this was even more pathetic. I thought I was beginning to understand how you act and think, but apparently it would take me billions of years to accomplish that"
"I guess I should be angry at being treated so coldly, but for some reason I'm starting to get used to these gratuitous insults of yours. This must be the influence of another busty, demanding girl."
Mugino didn't even know what to respond in the face of all the nonsense that boy was saying. Instead, she focused on what interested her.
"Okay, now that we've said hello, let's cut to the chase. Why did you call me here?"
"You have a strange way of saying hello, bad girl"
She noticed that the boy was trying to be evasive again. She also noticed that Kamijou was looking around suspiciously every few seconds. Of course 'normal' people would let this go, maybe at most think that the boy was nervous about being in public, but Mugino was not just another normal person.
"How about we go inside? The line for the Ferris wheel must be huge by now," Kamijou said, putting a shy smile on his face.
"I really don't know why I still listen to you"
Despite the complaints, the girl walked alongside the level 0. The first thing she noticed was that the amusement park was a little strange. It wasn't very big, which meant that Academy City probably hadn't given much land for construction, the second thing was the park's attractions.
"I think I know what you're thinking, bad girl" Kamijou Spoke this in a lower tone than usual "This place looks more like a sort of 'festival' with a few modern things here and there than an amusement park. You know what that means, don't you?"
She took another look around. Strangely enough, the security of the place seemed exaggerated. Why did they need so many people guarding a place like this?
"This is just a facade" She leaned in Kamijou's direction, to make sure only he heard what she wanted to say "What's in here? Does it have something to do with that favor you asked me?"
"I wouldn't call you here if it wasn't" He stopped suddenly, looking up discreetly "There are many cameras here, they probably don't pick up sound, but I don't want to risk it"
"Why didn't you text me at least giving me some details?"
"I didn't think it was necessary. Or actually maybe I'm just a little paranoid" He shrugged and started walking faster than before "Let's focus on something else for now. I want to go on the Ferris wheel, but which ride would you like to go on first, bad girl?"
"What I would like first is for you to stop calling me by that ridiculous nickname"
"And here I thought you were starting to like this. I guess I have to keep persisting, one day it will happen."
"I'll try another approach then. I'll pick a stupid nickname for you too. Let me think..." The girl looked up at the night sky with her index finger on her chin "I got it, I'll call you 'hedgehog'. That goes with your ridiculous hairdo."
The boy gave her a rather serious look, which made her smile rather smugly. She would show that this game could be played by two.
"Hedgehog? Like that little blue guy who runs really fast?" He shook his head positively "Cool. I have confidence in my running abilities."
"What?" The girl made a confused face "You do know there is an animal by that name don't you?"
"Are they fast in real life too?" That seemed like a pretty serious question.
"You know what? Never mind" She suddenly started walking faster "You're a fucking idiot, you know that don't you?"
"More gratuitous offenses. The effect gets smaller and smaller, bad girl."
Rolling her eyes, the girl looked at him with a cold stare. She stopped suddenly and crossed her arms, tapping her foot lightly on the artificial grass.
"Is it that hard to call me by my damn name?" The girl seemed to be reaching the limit of her patience.
"If that's what you want, then fine by me... Shizuri-chan" He said this smiling brazenly.
That almost made the girl shoot a Meltdowner beam. She contemplated that scene for about five seconds before she could calm down enough to formulate a sentence.
"You are probably the person with the greatest amount of guts in the entire world"
"You are handling it very well, Shizuri-chan" Kamijou really was testing the limits of that level 5.
"Can you get that goddamn 'chan' out of my name?"
"Wait, is that what you're angry about? So you see no problem if I call you Shizuri?"
"I think I've had enough. Do you want me to send the charred remains of your body to Kamijou's family, or would you rather be completely cremated with my Meltdowner?" She raised her right arm at that instant, but Kamijou was quicker and grabbed the girl's wrist with his right hand
"What are you doing? We can't attract attention, have you forgotten?" He changed his tone from friendly to slightly irritated.
"Don't act like it's all my fault" She tried as hard as she could not to scream as she tried to disengage herself from the boy "Will you let go of me? I don't want you to destroy my entire AIM field by accident"
"Huh?" The boy was completely confused, but decided to let go of the girl before asking "What are you talking about? What do you mean destroy your AIM field?"
"Hmm... you seem interested" She suddenly felt like smiling again "I found out something interesting about your ability, and from the looks of it even you didn't know. Either that or you act very well"
Level 5 observed the boy, who was in doubt of what to say. She so far knew almost nothing about how this boy's ability worked. All she knew was that he could easily stop her ability and even prevent her from using it. But she knew the effect, not the cause. But the most intriguing thing was that maybe the boy wasn't pretending when he said he wasn't sure how his ability worked.
"We'd better get to the Ferris wheel line" The boy said, leaving aside what the girl had said "We need a high place to get a good look around"
Passing her without saying anything else, he quickened his pace and headed toward where the Ferris wheel queue was. An uneasy silence now stood between them. The line was not very long, but it would last forever if it continued that slow. The biggest problem there was that Mugino didn't know what to say. She didn't even know why the boy had suddenly become so serious. When he held her wrist, he was irritated because he didn't want to attract attention, but he only got serious when she commented about him destroying her AIM field, but why did it shake him up so much? Meltdowner just wanted to be direct at that moment, but every time she opened her mouth, something stopped the sound from coming out of her lips.
Finally, after exhausting minutes that seemed to stretch into eternity, their turn in line came.
"What exactly are we looking for?" Mugino asked finally, waiting until they were near the top
"I don't know" He answered simply.
The boy looked at the amusement park below them, searching for something that he himself had claimed he didn't know what it was. Level 5 sighed loudly at that instant, which made Kamijou turn his attention back to her.
"Is there a problem, Mugino-san?" he quickly looked back through the cabin window,
" Yes, he is right here beside me" She said dryly "Could you tell me something, anything, that will stop me from throwing you out of this cabin?"
"Have you ever heard of Ability Body Crystal?"
That question certainly took her by surprise if you were to judge only by her reaction. For an instant only, she hesitated, but she managed to keep up the pace of the conversation.
"Yes, it's a special kind of drug that overloads an esper's ability" For some reason she couldn't keep her tone of voice steady.
Meltdowner felt strange when the boy stopped looking through the cabin window and turned his full attention to her, only to look away soon after.
"As expected of you, Mugino-san. So smart" There was almost no emotion as he said it "That information we got yesterday confirmed some things I was investigating. Scientists on the dark side are trying to create a more 'stable' version of this drug.
"What exactly would be a more 'stable' version? As far as I know the drug serves its purpose very well."
"I am not a scientist, Mugino-san, and I understand almost nothing about this subject either. All I know is that I need to find a way to stop all this."
"So that's your goal?" She asked that rhetorical question and then was thoughtful for a moment "Is someone paying you to do this? Or is it some kind of personal crusade?"
"I don't think my motives fit either of those" This time the boy looked at her as he spoke "Last night I fought an pyrotechnician esper, or something like that. Apparently he seemed to be using this drug. His ability got out of control, as expected, and he ended up being hurt by his own power. If I hadn't been there, he probably would have killed himself. That's why I need to stop whoever is behind this"
Level 5 waited in silence until the boy had nothing more to say. She paid attention to every word, every gesture. But there was still something she was unable to understand.
"I don't think I understand" The girl said, looking at him with an unnatural intensity "From what I hear, you are literally getting nothing in return by doing this. What is your reason for saving these people you don't even know?"
"I don't need a reason to save someone" He answered so quickly that it seemed as if he was waiting for her to ask that question.
"What?" and the girl's reaction also came instantly.
In the world that Mugino Shizuri lives in, you could rarely come across kindness. It was hurt or be hurt, kill not to be killed. She already knew how against that boy was when it came to killing someone, but she still thought they were alike somehow, that they lived in the same world, just far away from each other. But now the girl was like a boat adrift, with no hope of rowing to shore.
"If I notice that someone is suffering, that someone has fallen and is having trouble getting up, I always offer a helping hand to that person, even if I don't know who they are." The boy said these words with a distant look, almost as if it was so natural that it needed no effort to be convincing. The honesty was clear as day "To me, it doesn't matter if it's someone I've known for years or someone I haven't even met yet. Even if I know I won't gain anything by it, I will fight until I drag that person out of the darkness"
"That... doesn't make sense" The girl didn't know what to feel. Nor what to say. The words just wanted to flow through her mouth "Anyone?"
At that moment the girl remembered something. At that shopping mall, when she was about to kill that Synchrotron user, he had said something that affected her at the moment, but she chose not to think about it. But now those words were echoing in an almost endless cycle in her head.
'He said he was trying to save more than one girl. So was he really talking about me? Doesn't he realize that there is nothing left to save?'
"Maybe it doesn't make sense, but that's the way I am" He shrugged at that instant "You can call me an idiot if you want, but it's not going to change the way I do things. Sometimes I think that's a rather selfish way of thinking, but I don't care, as long as I can put a sincere smile on someone's face, everything else is irrelevant."
"I... I..." She searched his eyes while still trying to understand everything she had heard "I can't understand you" The girl shook her head sharply in a negative way "You're not involved with the dark side because you wanted money or power or something?" Level 5 was trying hard to put some anger in those words, but she was not being convincing "All this time I thought I at least understood a little bit of what you were doing. You're not the only dark side agent who refuses to kill someone, it's a rarity but it exists, but now I find out that you're trying to save people, not because they sent you or because you're getting something in return, but because you want to... like it's a fucking hobby or some shit. It's like a bad twist in a movie that the screenwriters thought they needed because otherwise it wouldn't be interesting enough"
She stopped talking for a moment, waiting for the boy to reply, but he did not. He felt like someone who had already reached the top of a mountain, and now just enjoyed the view, without worrying about the cold wind blowing in his face.
"And on top of that you dragged me into all this shit" But the girl was still nowhere near climbing that steep mountain "So that's why you were being so vague? You're trying to manipulate me into helping you with whatever shit you're trying to do in this fucking amusement park?"
"It's not like you have no choice, Mugino-san" Kamijou preferred to look her in the eye this time, proving that he wasn't being affected by the girl's words "Once this Ferris wheel stops, you can just walk away and leave me alone. I'll finish it one way or another. But I'd really appreciate your help"
"Sure, and I'll just help you with it for no apparent reason" She made an exaggerated gesture with her hands, like a magician revealing his trick.
"Like I said, you can just walk away. It will make a big difference, but the result will still be the same."
"I don't have a single fucking reason to stay one more second in this park, so I guess you'd better find a way to convince me. Did you forget? I'm a 'bad girl' Kamijou. Isn't that what you call me? You can play knight in shining armor all you want, but don't bring the others into your shit"
The Ferris wheel ride was almost over. The girl seemed determined to leave the wannabe hero alone, and that's what she was doing, but before she left the cabin, the boy held her wrist once more. But she realized something strange, he had held her with his left hand.
"So how about I give you a reason" He said, still holding her tightly "I mean, you're interested in my Imagine Breaker, and you seem to know some things that I wasn't sure were true, so how about I tell you what I know. Maybe we can solve this mystery together."
Meltdowner had already made her decision, but that boy probably already knew what she would choose. He revealed his reasons for being there knowing exactly how the girl would react, and then said that she had a choice, but he was now offering her what seemed to be a third choice. Level 5 narrowed her eyes at that instant, trying to analyze that oddly unreadable boy who always seemed to be two steps ahead of her. Her decision was obvious from the start, assuming there was something to choose in the first place.

*Thumbs-up. Hey. This chapter brings back a character that was obvious to appear again, but there's nothing for us to see here... just another girl being saved by our favorite 'Hero', is there? Shizuri-chan is slowly learning the way Kamijou acts and thinks. Will she continue to make the same decisions?
Zatchbell511:Scary Touma is scary. The virtual spin off can be read on the Baka-tsuki site.
Guest: Revenge is a dish best eaten cold
elementalgaming30: I'm glad you liked the scene. I don't plan to show much of that side of Touma, but he will return from time to time.
Theporgs0910: Thank you very much for reading. I usually update the story every 3 days , so you are in luck.
Xellos540: Shizuri got tired of cornering Touma in her dorm room, so she decided to make things more interesting. That description was made for the huge forehead or... you know. If I remember correctly, Fukiyose has no idea that Touma knows or has fought pretty much every level 5. From her point of view, Kamijou is just a guy who doesn't give a shit about school. Mugino was holding back xD. Shizuri doesn't believe this kind of thing, but she heard Touma complain a few times and just wanted to hear the story. Kamijou is not sure about it, as he said himself, in OT1 he even tries to use a rational method to explain his bad luck to Index, but when she says it's all IB's fault he doesn't even question it, as if he just needed one last push to confirm what he already knew(I have to reread OT1 to be sure oops). Did you mean 'real life Gekota'? You also know super well why LOL . The scenes with Kaibi and Seria were made to be ambiguous on purpose. Kamijou has no idea what effect he has on women, but at the same time he notices strange behaviors, but the density is too immense for him to be able to fully comprehend. Kinuhata is not dumb, but as Mugino explained, the information was full of scientific jargon from a specific area, but she still understood some things, unlike Frenda. Kamijou calling Mugino 'boss' was just a little reference and at the same time Touma making fun of our level 5 sweetheart. He is moving into the ITEM apartment, but he is still living in his dorm. I thought it would make sense for Mugino to react that way, she is kind of sadistic, but the idea is not to make her feel attracted to that side, especially considering that the whole thing was a big bluff. I think I expressed myself wrong when I talked about Kuroko and Touma, what I meant is that both of them have a heroic and serious side when they are in the field, but both she and Touma talk about perverted stuff all the time. Remember the time Kamijou asks to caress a 'certain mountainous region' of Fukiyose? But the comparisons end there, since Kamijou is a much deeper character than that. Did you know that the color 'pink' does not actually exist?
That's all, folks. No TVs were hurt in the writing of this chapter. Nio Leaving.
