WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT

Mary runs up the stairs and into Sam's nursery.

John gives baby Sam to Dean.

"Take your brother outside as fast as you can! Now, Dean, go!" John tells four-year-old Dean.

Dean runs downstairs with Sean. While John looks back.

WHAT THEY WITNESSED

Mary burns on the ceiling.

"Mary! No!" John screams.

John watches the nursery burn, Mary with it.

SENT TWO BROTHERS, AND LATER, THEIR YOUNGER TWIN SISTERS

December 24th, 1989

Maternal Unit, Hospital

Two couples this day were giving birth two sets of twins. John had remarried to a woman, Angel Gianna Winchester nee Williams (Mary look alike) for a short time and then Bobby Singer and his wife, Karen were there, John was expecting girls, Bobby and Karen, sons.

John's wife of two years delivered the twins but she was a tiny thing and didn't survive the birth. John named his daughters Laila Melek Winchester (Willow Shields FC) and Lorelai Freyja Winchester (Sierra McCormick FC). Bobby's wife, Karen Singer had sons they named Hadraniel Seraphiel Singer (Timothee Chalamet FC) and Raziel Harahel Singer (Nick Jonas FC). They would grow and learn to hunt with their brothers for the Winchester sisters and with Ellen and Jo for the Singer boys' years after their mom die.

On Sylvania Bridge, Dean, Sam, Lore and I turn to face the onlookers.

In Sam's apartment, Dean speaks to Sam, Lore, Jess and I.

"Dad's on a hunting trip." Deano says.

Outside Contance's house, Dean and Lore fire through the Impala's window at Constance.

In Sam's bedroom, Sam pulls out his curved knife.

In Sam's apartment, Dean speaks to Sam, Jess, Lore and I.

"And he hasn't been home in a few days." Dean tells us Winchesters.

"Jess, excuse us." Sam tells Jess

ON A QUEST FOR ANSWERS 22 YEARS LATER FOR THE BROTHERS, 16 FOR THE SISTERS

In the stairwell from Sam's apartment, Sam speaks to Dean.

"I swore I was done hunting." Sam told Dean.

In the Impala, Constance tries to rip Sam's heart out.

"For good." Sam tells Dean.

"I can't do this without you." Dean says.

In Sam's bedroom, Jess speaks to Sam.

"And now you're taking off in the middle of the night to spend the weekend with them?" Jess asks Sam.

"Hey. Everything's going to be okay. I promise." Sam tells Jess.

Outside, the Impala drives along a two-lane road.

"You think Mom would have wanted this for us?" Sam asks Dean

In John's motel room, Sam looks at the photos John left of us five Winchesters.

"Dean, we were raised like warriors." So were Laila and Lorelai, their mother wouldn't want this either." Sam tells Dean.

In Sam's apartment, Sam packs his curved knife.

On Sylvania Bridge, Dean talks to Sam.

"You have a responsibility." Dean says.

In 1983, John and Dean sit on the hood of the Impala, John holding Sam. In 1990, John sits with a ten-year-old Dean, six-year-old Sam, and Laila and I are a few months old on the impala.

"To Dad? And his crusade?" Sam asks Dean and I inch away and into my own room.

On Sylvania Bridge, Sam talks to Dean.

"Even if we do find the thing that killed her, Mom's gone. And she isn't coming back." Sam tells Dean.

Dean grabs Sam by the collar and shoves him up against the railing of the bridge.

"Don't talk about her like that." Dean practically growls at Sam.

In the Jericho County sheriff's office, the Sheriff throws down John's journal. The Sheriff flips some of the pages.

"Dad's gone. I've got his journal. He left me a message." Dean tells Sam.

In the Impala, Sam compares the coordinates in the journal to a map.

"These coordinates he left us, it's weird, man." Sam tells Dean and Lore.

In John's motel room, Sam talks to Dean.

"Hey Dean? What I said earlier, I'm sorry." Sam tells Dean.

Dean raises a hand.

"No chick-flick moments." Dean tells Sammy.

Sam laughs.

In Sam's apartment, Sam lets himself in.

"Jess?" Sam calls out.

In Sam's bedroom, he lies on the bed, eyes closed, and sighs. Blood drips on his forehead and he flinches, opens his eyes, and gasps in horror. Jess is pinned to the ceiling, bleeding.

"No!" Sam cries out.

Outside Sam's apartment, Dean watches the firefighters handle the situation, then goes to Sam at the Impala. Sam finishes loading a shotgun and tosses it in the trunk.

"We've got work to do." Sam tells us.

Sam shuts the trunk.

NOW

Blackwater Ridge

Lost Creek, Colorado

Forest

Night

Third Person POV

Two tents are set up near a fire ring. Crickets chirp. Inside one tent, two young men, Brad and Gary, are playing head-to-head handheld video games.

"Dude, you're cheating." Brad tells Gary.

"No, you just suck." Gary tells Brad.

Something growls outside. In the other tent, a third young man, Tom Collins, records a video message on his cell phone.

"Hey Haley, day six, we're still out near Blackwater Ridge." Tom says in the video recording.

Something dark flicks behind the tent wall behind Tom, too fast to be identifiable as more than 'something dark'; the screen on Tom's phone, displaying the video as Tom records it, caught it.

"We're fine, keeping safe, so don't worry, okay? Talk to you tomorrow." Tom says, knowing his sister worries.

Tom stops recording and sends the message.

Brad closes his game system and tosses it aside. Gary stares at his system for a moment, then turns to look at Brad, who is getting up and unzipping the tent.

"Hey, where ya goin'? My moment of victory." Gary tells Brad.

"Nature calls." Brad tells Gary.

Brad goes outside and zips up the tent behind him. He goes to stand against the tree to relieve himself. The fire crackles. Something snaps a stick. Brad looks towards the sound and sees the trees rustling. Brad shakes his head and returns his attention downward, then looks up sharply. Something growls.

Inside Tom's tent, Tom, who is reading Joseph Campbell's The Hero with A Thousand Faces, hears Brad scream. Inside Gary's tent, Gary hears the same and rolls over.

"Brad?" Gary calls out.

Tom sits up.

"Gary, what's goin' on?" Tom calls out to Gary

Gary opens the tent and sticks his head out to look around. He sees nothing. Growling. He looks up. Something pulls Gary out of the tent. He screams.

Tom turns out the lantern he had on. Shadows move very quickly around the outside of Tom's tent. Tom looks around, his eyes following the shadows and growling. Silence falls. Something slashes open Tom's tent. Tom screams.

Cemetery - Day

Palo Alto, California

Sam POV

Birds chirp. I, wearing a suit and tie and carrying a bouquet of various flowers excluding roses, walks through an otherwise deserted cemetery.

I sigh and stops next to a gravestone. It reads "JESSICA LEE MOORE", "Beloved Daughter", "January 24th 1984 – November 2nd 2005". There is a small picture of a grinning Jess set into the stone above her name, a black-and-white picture of her leaning against the stone between a white teddy bear and a wooden box with a crucifix leaning on the picture, a small American flag next to the box, and three candles standing on the gravestone; one is of the Virgin de Guadalupe.

I look between the gravestone and the flowers.

"I, uh..." I try to say.

I laugh.

"You always said roses were, were lame, so I brought you, uh..." I say.

I look at the picture set into the gravestone, then look away, choking back tears. I step closer to the gravestone.

"Jess...oh God..." I speak. I kneel to set down the flowers. "I should have protected you. I should have told you the truth. Now Henry Prim and Kate are without a mom." I speak.

I lean the flowers in front of the crucifix. An arm covered in dirt shoots out of the ground and grabs me by the wrist.

Impala -Day

I jerk awake. It is 10 Nov 2005, I am riding shotgun next to Dean, the twins in the back with Henry, Prim, and nine-day-old Kate, Foreigner's "Hot-Blooded" is playing, and the cemetery visit is days behind me if it ever occurred.

I'm hot-blooded, check it and see
I got a fever of a hundred and three
Come on, baby, do you do more than dance?

I blink and rub my eyes. Dean looks over, concerned.

"You okay?" Dean asks me.

I'm hot-blooded

I glance over and away.

I'm hot-blooded

"Yeah, I'm fine." I tell Dean.

Dean nods. "Another nightmare?" Dean asks me, as Lore is listening to music and Lei is reading.

I clear my throat.

You don't have to read my mind

"You wanna drive for a while?" Dean asks me.

To know what I have in mind

I laugh.

Honey, you oughta know

"Dean, your whole life you never once asked me that." I state.

"Just thought you might want to. Never mind." Dean says.

Now you move so fine

"Look, man, you're worried about me." I say.

Let me lay it on the line

"I get it, and thank you, but I'm perfectly okay." I say

I wanna know

"Mm-hm." Dean says.

"Right." Lore says.

"As if." Lei says.

What you're doing after the show

I grab a map.

"All right, where are we?" I ask Dean, ignoring the twins.

Now it's up to you

"We are just outside of Grand Junction." Dean tells me.

We can make a secret rendezvous

I fold down the map, which is of Colorado and has a large red X labeled 35-111.

"You know what?" I ask.

Just me and you

"Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon." I speak. And I hear Lore and Lei groan, but they groan also since Henry, Kate, and Prim start crying.

Lore tends to Henry, Lei to Kate, and they both tend to Primrose.

I'll show you lovin' like you never knew

"Sam, we dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you wanna find the thing that killed Jessica—" Dean goes to tell me.

"We gotta find Dad first." I repeat what he has told me.

That's why I'm hot-blooded
Check it and see

"Dad disappearing—" Dean starts to say.

"Which is not good." Lore says, interrupting Dean after she finishes changing Henry and then feed him then rock him to bed.

"At all." Lei finishes, as she's feeding Kate formula, then changes her, then puts her to bed.

Then they have to change and feed Prim, then put her to bed.

I got a fever of a hundred and three

"—and this thing showing up again after twenty years, it's no coincidence." Dean finishes.

Come on, baby, do you do more than dance?

"Dad will have answers. He'll know what to do." Dean says but I see Lei rolling her eyes then nod off to bed.

"It's weird, man." I speak.

"When are we going to tell the twins the truth about their mother? That she was on a hunt and got injured and while yes she was tiny, she may have survived if not for the wound on the abdomen a certain Siren left behind? That the reason they aren't dead is because dad got them to a hospital?" I ask.

I'm hot-blooded

"These coordinates he left us." I tell Dean.

Hot-blooded

"This Blackwater Ridge." I speak.

"What about it?" Dean asks me.

"There's nothing there. It's just woods." I tell Dean.

I put down the map.

"Why is he sending us to the middle of nowhere?" I ask Dean.

They drive past the National Forest sign that says, "Welcome to LOST CREEK COLORADO National Forest."

Ranger Station - Day

Lorelai Freyja Winchester POV

I wake after no sleep since I tended to the babies, to the Impala parked next to a sign that says "RANGER STATION Lost Creek Trail, Lost Creek National Forest".

"So, Blackwater Ridge is pretty remote." I hear Sam say to Dean and Laila.

Inside Ranger Station – Day

Sam and Lei look at a 3D map of the national forest, paying particular attention to the ridge labeled "BLACKWATER RIDGE". Dean and I look at the decorations.

"It's cut off by these canyons here, rough terrain, dense forest, abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place." Sam tells me, Dean, and Laila.

"Dude, check out the size of this freaking bear." Dean tells us. I know Dean and right now, he's avoiding something.

Sam looks over. Dean is looking at a framed photo of a man standing behind a much larger bear. Sam comes to stand next to Dean.

"And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area. It's no nature hike, that's for sure." Sam says, holding Henry (little Sam).

"And maybe something else." Laila points out, holding baby Kate (combo of Sam and Jess).

"Like werewolves or a wendigo." I point out, holding Prim (little Jess).

A forest ranger, Ranger Wilkinson, walks up behind them; when he speaks, Dean and Sam whip around, startled.

"You boys aren't planning on going out near Blackwater Ridge by any chance?" Ranger Wilkinson asks.

"Oh, no, sir, we're environmental study majors from UC Boulder, just working on a paper." Sam says.

Sam laughs a little, Dean grins and raises a fist, Laila raises her eyebrow, and I smile.

"Recycle, man." Dean says.

"Bull." Wilkinson says.

Sam's eyes flick to Dean, Laila, and I, and we just don't move or care.

"You're friends with that Haley girl, right?" Wilkinson asks us, as I look at my knife.

Dean and Laila consider and look at me, I nod.

"Yes. Yes, we are, Ranger—" Dean starts to say but fishes for the Ranger's name.

Dean checks the Ranger's nametag.

"Wilkinson." Dean says.

"Well, I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater until the twenty-fourth, so it's not exactly a missing persons' now, is it?" Wilkinson says.

Dean shakes his head, Laila gives Wilkinson the stink eye, and I glare at him.

"You tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brother's just fine." Wilkinson says.

"We will. Well that Haley girl's quite a pistol, huh?" Dean asks.

"That is putting it mildly." Wilkinson says.

"Actually, you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date." Dean says.

The Ranger eyes Dean and Dean raises his eyebrows.

Outside the Ranger Station - Day

We leave the ranger station. Dean is holding a piece of paper and laughing, while I roll my eyes and Lore raises her eyebrow.

"What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?" Sam asks Dean.

"What do you mean?" Dean asks Sam but sees the looks Lei and I have on our faces.

"The coordinates point to Blackwater Ridge, so what are we waiting for? Let's just go find Dad. I mean, why even talk to this girl?" Sam asks Dean.

"Unless he wants to be like dad." Lei says.

"A father to a bouncing baby boy or twins." I say.

Dean and Sam stop on opposite sides of the Impala, whil Lei and I get in the car, doors open.

"I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it?" Dean asks.

A pause.

"What?" Sam asks.

"Huh?" Lei asks.

I look at Dean like he's crazy.

"Since when are you all shoot first ask questions later, anyway?" Dean asks us as he doesn't like where it's going.

"Since now." Sam says.

"You should know I prefer blades, swords, knives, sais, the lot. But I do use guns." I say.

"I prefer bow and arrows, spears, but yeah, I will use guns." Laila says.

Sam turns away; the sound of the car door opening is heard.

"Really?" Dean asks us. Dean goes around the car.

Collins House - Day

Dean, Sam and I are standing at the door to a house. The door opens to reveal Haley Collins.

"You must be Haley Collins. I'm Dean, this is Sam, and this is Lorelai, we're, ah, we're rangers with the Park Service. Ranger Wilkinson sent us over. He wanted us to ask a few questions about your brother Tommy." Dean says and I facepalm.

Haley hesitates.

"Lemme see some ID." Haley says.

Dean pulls out a fake ID with the name 'Samuel Cole' and holds it up against the screen. Haley looks at it, then at Dean, who smiles. Haley opens the door.

"Come on in." Haley tells us.

"Thanks." Dean says.

The door swings open; Haley catches sight of the Impala.

"That yours?" Haley asks Dean.

"Yeah." Dean tells Haley.

Sam is looking back at the Impala.

"Nice car." Haley says.

Haley turns to lead Dean and Sam into the kitchen, where Ben Collins is sitting at the table on a laptop. Dean turns his head to mouth "Holy shit, did you hear her just say she liked my car? Did you see how pretty she is? I'm in, dude, I'm in!" to Sam, who rolls his eyes. I smack Dean on the head as she saw what he said. Lei is in the car with Henry, Prim, and Catherine Diana Winchester.

Kitchen – Day

Sam POV

"So, if Tommy's not due back for a while, how do you know something's wrong?" I ask, looking back at the Impala for a second, knowing Laila is watching over Henry, Prim, and Kate, but I can't help but worry.

Haley comes back into the room with a bowl she places on the table.

"He checks in every day by cell. He emails, photos, stupid little videos—we haven't heard anything in over three days now." Haley tells us.

"Well, maybe he can't get cell reception." I tell Haley.

"He's got a satellite phone, too." Haley tells us.

"Could it be he's just having fun and forgot to check in?" Dean asks Haley.

"He wouldn't do that." Ben says.

"Maybe he lost hist phone?" Lorelai asks.

Dean eyes Ben. Ben looks away. Haley puts more food on the table to which I see Lorelai eat some.

"Our parents are gone. It's just my two brothers and me. We all keep pretty close tabs on each other. And Lore, you have a point. If he went hiking..." Haley says.

"Can I see the pictures he sent you?" I ask Haley.

"Yeah." Haley says.

On a laptop, Haley pulls up pictures.

"That's Tommy." Haley tells us, showing us an image of her brother.

Haley clicks twice and another picture comes up, then the still frame opening the latest video.

"Hey Haley, day six, we're still out near Blackwater Ridge. We're fine, keeping safe, so don't worry, okay? Talk to you tomorrow." Tommy says.

Sam spots the shadow flicking past.

"Well, we'll find your brother. We're heading out to Blackwater Ridge first thing." Dean says.

"Then maybe I'll see you there. Look, I can't sit around here anymore. So, I hired a guy. I'm heading out in the morning, and I'm gonna find Tommy myself." Haley tells us.

"I think I know how you feel." Dean says.

"Hey, do you mind forwarding these to me?" I ask Haley.

"Sure." Haley tells me.

Bar - Night

Someone breaks a game of pool. A waitress goes past us carrying beer.

Dean, Laila, and I sit down at a table as Lorelai is babysitting my babies.

"So, Blackwater Ridge doesn't get a lot of traffic. Local campers, mostly. But still, this past April, two hikers went missing out there. They were never found." I speak.

I open John's journal.

"Any before that?" Dean asks me.

I pull out newspaper articles to show Dean. "Yeah, in 1982, eight different people all vanished in the same year. Authorities said it was a grizzly attack." I tell Dean.

Dean reads the headline in The Lost Creek Gazette.

GRIZZLY BEAR ATTACKS!
UP TO EIGHT HIKERS VANISH IN LOST CREEK AREA
HIKERS DISAPPEARANCE BAFFLE AUTHORITIES'
Families continue search and rescue efforts in spite of disappointing [...]

I pull out my laptop. "And again in 1959 and again before that in 1936." I speak. I open my laptop, which already has a window open to Tom's video.

"Every twenty-three years, just like clockwork. Okay. Watch this. Here's a clincher. I downloaded that guy Tommy's video to the laptop. Check this out." I tell Dean and Laila.

I pull up the video and goes through three frames of the video one at a time. A shadow crosses the screen.

"Do it again." Dean says.

I repeat the frames. "That's three frames. That's a fraction of a second. Whatever that thing is, it can move." I speak

Dean hits me. I look up. "Told you something weird was going on." Dean tells me.

"Yeah." I tell him, looking Lei's way as at least she doesn't rub it in my face. I close my laptop. "I got one more thing." I tell Dean and Laila.

I hand over another newspaper article. "In 'fifty-nine one camper survived this supposed grizzly attack. Just a kid. Barely crawled out of the woods alive." I say to them.

Dean and Laila look at The Lost Creek Gazette.

"Is there a name?" Dean asks.

Shaw House - Night

Lore POV

An old man, Mr. Shaw, talks to Sam, Laila, Dean and I, as I called Razi to babysit Henry, Prim, and Kate on the promise that I will go to the movies, while leading them inside his house. Shaw has a cigarette in his mouth.

"Look, ranger, I don't know why you're asking me about this. It's public record. I was a kid. My parents got mauled by a—" Shaw starts to say.

Sam interrupts.

"Grizzly? That's what attacked them?" Sam asks and Laila and I facepalm.

Shaw takes a puff of his cigarette, takes it out, and nods.

"The other people that went missing that year, those bear attacks too?" Dean asks Shaw.

A pause.

"What about all the people that went missing this year? Same thing?" Dean asks but I shake my head, telling him to stop.

A pause.

"We knew what we were dealing with, we might be able to stop it." Dean tells Shaw.

"I seriously doubt that. Anyways, I don't see what difference it would make." Shaw says.

"We could try." Laila says.

"And succeed." I speak.

Shaw sits down. "You wouldn't believe me. Nobody ever did." Mr. Shaw says.

Sam sits down across from Mr. Shaw.

"Mr. Shaw, what did you see?" Sam asks him.

Mr. Shaw pauses. "Nothing. It moved too fast to see. It hid too well. I heard it, though. A roar. Like...no man or animal I ever heard." Mr. Shaw says.

"It came at night?" Sam asks Mr. Shaw.

Shaw nods.

"Got inside your tent?" Sam asks Mr. Shaw

"It got inside our cabin. I was sleeping in front of the fireplace when it came in. It didn't smash a window or break the door. It unlocked it. Do you know of a bear that could do something like that? I didn't even wake up till I heard my parents screaming." Mr. Shaw says.

"It killed them?" Sam asks.

"Dragged them off into the night." Mr. Shaw says, and Lei and I give him hugs of sympathy. Shaw shakes his head. "Why it left me alive...been asking myself that ever since." Shaw says. A pause. Shaw's hands go to his collar.

Motel? - Night

Dean and Sam walk the length of a corridor with rooms on either side while Laila, Henry, Prim, Kate, Razi, and I are on the beds, the motel we picked has three bedrooms.

"Spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. If they want inside, they just go through the walls." Dean tells us.

"So, it's probably something else, something corporeal." Sam says.

"Can't be a werewolf. Mr. Shaw would have been turning into a werewolf since the incident with his parents." Laila says.

"So maybe it's a Kitsune." I speak.

"Or a wendigo." Raziel says.

"Corporeal? Excuse me, professor." Dean says and Laila and I roll our eyes.

"Shut up. So, what do you think?" Sam asks us.

"The claws, the speed that it moves...could be a Skinwalker, maybe a black dog. Whatever we're talking about, we're talking about a creature, and it's corporeal. Which means we can kill it." Dean says.

"Dean, I think it's time for Lore and Lei to-" Sam starts to say

Suddenly, there's knocking at the door. Dean looks out the peephole and pales when he sees the someone at the door.

"What is she doing here? And who are the others with her? One fling! Just one fling with Sasha (Maggie Grace FC)!" Dean rants

Sam looks out the peephole after Dean, and sighs.

"She brought a fling of mine, Hope Wilson (Sonja Bennett). Before Jessica, I slept with someone, and I thought I never see her again." Sam says.

I look out the peephole and recognize the third as a fling of Dad's.

"They've brought Rebecca (Jennifer Lawrence FC), a fling of Dad's." I tell Dean, Laila, and Sam.

We open the door to see a surprise. They brought two-year-old's, Sam has a two-year-old son, named Liam Abel Winchester (Cole Heppell FC).

Dean has two, two-year-old daughters, one named Victoria Artemisia Winchester (Mackenzie Foy FC), and the other Joan Dina Winchester (Selma Blair FC)

John has two three-year-old's, one named Evander Michael Winchester (Tom Welling FC) and Alexander Mordecai Winchester (Monroe Jackson Rathbone V aka Jackson Rathbone FC). We call Harry and Bobby to come get the babies after the mothers leave them with us with paternity tests showing that Dean, Dad, and Sam are the dads. All of them for now until we're done with the job.

Parking Lot - Night

Dean opens the trunk of the Impala, then the weapons box, and props it open with a shotgun. He puts some guns in a duffel bag. Sam leans in. Bobby and Harry pull up to get the kids, having baby seats, diapers and the like for the babies and for toddlers, some still need diapers, but others don't, and they have the booster seat. Everything they need for them.

"I'll see you later Henry, Prim, Kate, Liam." Sam says to his kids, kissing them as he buckles them into Harry's car.

"See you soon you rascals." Dean tells Victoria and Joan, as he buckles them in Bobby's truck.

"See you little brothers." Laila says, as she buckles them in Razi's car and, seeing Sam buckled too many in, unbuckles Liam, and puts him with Evan and Alex, buckling him in.

Soon, the Singer's drive off and I see Sam ready to cry.

"We're going to get them. We just need to finish the case first. Don't know about Dean." I tell him.

"We cannot let that Haley girl go out there." Sam says, now focused on the case as he doesn't want to focus on how far away his children are from him.

"Oh yeah? What are we gonna tell her? That she can't go into the woods because of a big scary monster?" Dean says, doing the same thing but also because he doesn't want to think that he's a dad.

"Yeah." Sam and Lei say.

Dean looks at Sam and Laila.

"Her brother's missing, Sam. She's not gonna just sit this out. Now we go with her, we protect her, and we keep our eyes peeled for our fuzzy predator friend." Dean and I speak.

Dean picks up the duffel.

"Finding Dad's not enough?" Sam asks Dean. Sam slams the weapons box shut, then the trunk. "Now we gotta babysit too?" Sam asks Dean.

Dean stares at Sam.

"What?" Sam asks Dean.

"Nothing." Dean tells Sam.

He throws the duffel bag at Sam and walks off. Sam stares after him.

Forest - Day

Haley Collins POV

A man, Roy, talks to me (who is wearing shorts) and Ben while checking a shotgun. We're all carrying full backpacks.

"I'll tell you again, I don't think Ben should come." Roy tells me

"Roy—" I say.

"Look, you're paying me good money to keep everybody safe. I think Ben's safest at home." Roy tells me.

Laila Melek Winchester POV

The Impala pulls up. Roy, Haley, and Ben stare. Haley shakes her head. Sam, Lore, Dean and I get out of the car. Sam and Lore open the back doors of the Impala and pulls out the duffel bag and Lore gets our backpacks.

"You guys got room for four more?" Dean asks them.

"Wait, you want to come with us?" Haley asks us.

"Yeah." Lore says.

"Who says men do all the work?" I ask.

"Who are these guys?" Roy asks Haley.

"Apparently, this is all the park service could muster up for the search and rescue." Haley tells Roy.

Sam heads past everyone.

"You're rangers?" Roy asks us.

"That's right." Dean says.

"Trainees." Lorelai and I speak.

"And you're hiking out in biker boots and jeans?" Haley asks Dean as Lore, and I are dressed in tank tops, short shorts, socks and hiking shoes or for me hiking boots.

Dean looks down at himself.

"Well, sweetheart, I don't do shorts. I'm not like my sisters."

"Obviously." Lore says.

"Ain't that the truth." I speak.

Dean heads past Haley.

"What, you think this is funny? It's dangerous back country out there. Her brother might be hurt." Roy says and with my eyes, I beg Dean if I can clock Roy.

Sam turns back.

"Believe me, I know how dangerous it can be. We just wanna help them find their brother, that's all. And no, not right now." Dean says, telling me no, that I can't clock Roy. Dean heads past us.

Third Person POV

Inside the Mine – Day

A mine shaft lets in light. Tom and Gary are hanging by their wrists from the ceiling. There are assorted corpses with them. Growling. Gary spots a tall skinny shape and starts yelling. Tommy does his best to turn away and does close his eyes tightly as Gary yells.

Forest - Day

Lei POV

The group hikes through the forest, Roy in the lead, then Dean, Haley, Ben, Lore, Sam, and I bringing up the rear.

"Roy, you said you did a little hunting." Dean says.

"Yeah, more than a little." Roy says.

"Uh-huh. What kind of furry critters do you hunt?" Dean asks Roy.

"Mostly buck, sometimes bear." Roy says.

Dean passes Roy. "Tell me, uh, Bambi or Yogi ever hunt you back?" Dean asks Roy.

Roy grabs Dean. Sam looks on while Lore and I take out our weapons and aim them at Roy. Lorelai aims her gun at his head, I aim my arrows at his groin.

"Whatcha doing, Roy?" Dean asks, trying to calm Lorelai and me.

Roy grabs a stick and pokes the bear trap Dean had almost stepped in. Haley looks annoyed.

"You should watch where you're stepping. Ranger." Roy tells Dean and Lore and I put away our weapons.

Roy drops the stick and retakes the lead.

"It's a bear trap." Dean says.

We hike on. Haley catches up to Dean.

"You didn't pack any provisions. You guys are carrying a duffel bag. You're not rangers." Haley says.

I clear my throat and show inside my backpack I have sufficient food and Gatorade for me.

Lorelai shows the same except for the drink, she has Coca-Cola and Root Beer, the root beer is for me if I want to switch a Gatorade.

Haley grabs Dean's arm.

"So, who the hell are you?" Haley asks Dean well all of us really.

Ben goes past Haley and Dean. Sam, Lore and I look at Dean, who indicates with his expression that we're to go on by; Sam obeys but Lore and I don't until he threatens to make sure Razi and Harry won't see us ever again. Dean watches us go for a moment.

"Sam, Lorelai, Laila and I are siblings, and we're looking for our father. He might be here, we don't know. I just figured that you and me, we're in the same boat." Dean says.

"Why didn't you just tell me that from the start?" Haley asks Dean.

"I'm telling you now. 'sides, it's probably the most honest I've ever been with a woman. ...ever. So, we okay?" Dean tells/asks Haley.

A pause.

"Yeah, okay." Haley says.

"And what do you mean I didn't pack provisions?" Dean asks Haley.

Dean pulls out a big bag of peanut M&Ms and sticks his hand in the bag as he hikes on. Haley waits a moment, then follows.

Later

Dean POV

Roy leads the way, followed by Sam, Ben, Haley, Lorelai, Laila, and me.

"This is it. Blackwater Ridge." Roy says.

Sam heads past Roy.

"What coordinates are we at?" Sam asks Roy.

Roy pulls out a GPS, which reads N 35o 45.383, W 111o 00.55.

"Thirty-five and minus one-eleven." Roy says.

I come up to Sam. We listen.

"You hear that?" I ask Sam.

"Yeah. Not even crickets." Sam tells me.

"I'm gonna go take a look around." Roy says.

"You shouldn't go off by yourself." Sam tells Roy.

"That's sweet. Don't worry about me." Roy tells Sam.

Roy waves his gun and pushes between Sam and me to retake the lead. I turn back to the others as Ben, Lore, Lei, and Haley catch up.

"All right, everybody stays together. Let's go." I say.

"We got it big brother!" Laila tells me.

"I can take care of myself brother." Lore says.

Campsite

Sam, Lore, Lei, Ben, Haley, and I are looking around near a large rock.

"Haley! Over here!" Roy calls out.

Haley runs towards Roy's voice, followed closely by the others. They come to a halt.

"Oh my God." Haley says.

The tents are torn open and bloody and all the supplies are scattered.

"Looks like a grizzly." Roy says.

Haley and I look around.

"Tommy?" Haley calls out. Haley takes off her backpack and goes through the campsite. "Tommy!" Haley shouts.

Sam moves to catch up with Haley.

"Shh." Sam tries shush Haley.

"Tommy!" Haley shouts.

"Shh-hh-hh!" Sam shushes Haley.

"Why?" Haley asks Sam.

"Something might still be out there." Sam tells Haley.

"Sam!" Dean calls Sam.

Sam goes over to Lorelai, Laila, and I, snapping a stick, and crouches next to us.

"The bodies were dragged from the campsite. But here, the tracks just vanish. That's weird." I say.

Sam, Lore, Lei, and I stand up.

"I'll tell you what, that's no Skinwalker or black dog." I speak.

I go back to the campsite and Sam, Lore, and Lei follow. Haley picks up Tom's cell phone; it's bloody. She cries. She turns the phone over and the back is open. I crouch next to her.

"Hey, he could still be alive." I tell her.

Haley gives me a Look.

"Help! Help!" We hear someone shout.

Roy leads the way as everyone runs to the aid of the shouter, Lei and Lore still with their backpacks.

"Help! Somebody!" Someone shouts.

They find no one.

"It seemed like it was coming from around here, didn't it?" Haley asks everyone.

They listen.

"Everybody back to camp." Sam tells everyone.

Back at the campsite, all the supplies are missing.

"Our packs!" Haley cries out.

"So much for my GPS and my satellite phone." Roy says.

"What the hell is going on?" Haley asks us.

"It's smart. It wants to cut us off so we can't call for help." Sam tells us.

"You mean someone, some nutjob out there just stole all our gear." Roy says.

"You better shut up before I aim a bullet at your groin." Lore says.

Roy backs away from Lorelai and Laila smirks as she gets her bow out with her arrows.

Sam comes over to me.

"I need to speak with you. In private." Sam tells me

Sam, Lore, Lei, and I head a little way away from the group.

"Good. Let me see Dad's journal." Sam says.

I hand it over. Sam opens it and flips through until he finds a particular page. "All right, check that out." Sam tells me. Sam points to a First Nations–style drawing of a figure.

"Oh, come on, wendigos are in the Minnesota woods or, or northern Michigan. I've never even heard of one this far west." I tell Sam.

"Think about it, Dean, the claws, the way it can mimic a human voice." Sam tells me.

"Great." I say.

I take out my pistol. "Well then this is useless." I say.

Sam gives me back Dad's journal and heads past me, stopping for a moment.

"We gotta get these people to safety." Sam tells me.

Back at the campsite, Sam addresses the group.

"All right, listen up, it's time to go. Things have gotten...more complicated." Sam tells Roy, Haley, and Ben

"What?" Haley asks Sam.

"Kid, don't worry. Whatever's out there, I think I can handle it." Roy tells Sam.

"It's not me I'm worried about. If you shoot this thing, you're just gonna make it mad. We have to leave. Now." Sam tells Roy.

"One, you're talking nonsense. Two, you're in no position to give anybody orders." Roy says.

"Relax." I say.

"We never should have let you come out here in the first place, all right? I'm trying to protect you." Sam tells Roy.

Roy steps right into Sam's space.

"You protect me? I was hunting these woods when your mommy was still kissing you good night." Roy coldly tells Sam and with that, I see Lore and Laila aim their weapons at Roy.

"Yeah? It's a damn near perfect hunter. It's smarter than you, and it's gonna hunt you down and eat you alive unless we get your stupid sorry ass out of here." Sam tells Roy.

Roy coldly laughs. "You know you're crazy, right?" Roy asks Sam.

"Yeah? You ever hunt a wen—" Sam goes to ask Roy.

I push Sam, Lore and Lei glaring at him..

"Roy!" Haley shout at Roy.

"Chill out." I say.

"Stop. Stop it. Everybody just stop. Look. Tommy might still be alive. And I'm not leaving here without him." Haley tells us.

A long pause.

"It's getting late. This thing is a good hunter in the day, but an unbelievable hunter at night. We'll never beat it, not in the dark. We need to settle in and protect ourselves." I say.

"How?" Haley asks me.

Campsite

Forest - Night

Lorelai Freyja Winchester POV

The group has built a campfire, and Dean draws something in the dirt around the campsite while Haley pokes at the fire, with Laila polishing her arrows, and I am cleaning my gun.

"One more time, that's—" Haley says.

"Anasazi symbols. It's for protection. The wendigo can't cross over them." Dean tells Haley.

Roy laughs, gun over his shoulder.

"Nobody likes a skeptic, Roy." Dean tells Roy. Dean heads over to sit next to Sam, who is at the edge of the campsite. "You wanna tell me what's going on in that freaky head of yours?" Dean asks Sam.

"Dean—" Sam says.

"No, you're not fine. You're like a powder keg, man, it's not like you. I'm supposed to be the belligerent one, remember?" Dean tells Sam.

A pause.

"Dad's not here. I mean, that much we know for sure, right? He would have left us a message, a sign, right?" Sam asks Dean.

"Yeah, you're probably right. Tell you the truth, I don't think Dad's ever been to Lost Creek." Dean tells Sam.

"Then let's get these people back to town and let's hit the road. Go find Dad. I mean, why are we still even here?" Sam says, then asks Dean.

"This is why." Dean tells Sam.

Dean comes around to Sam's front and holds up our Dad's journal.

"This book. This is Dad's single most valuable possession—everything he knows about every evil thing is in here. And he's passed it on to us. I think he wants us to pick up where he left off. You know, saving people, hunting things. The family business." Dean says.

"Honestly guys, put your big boy shorts on." I say.

Sam shakes his head. "That makes no sense. Why doesn't he just—call us? Why doesn't he—tell us what he wants, tell us where he is?" Sam asks Dean.

"Maybe because you would have fought tooth and nail." Laila says.

"I dunno. But the way I see it, Dad's giving us a job to do, and Lore, Lei, and I intend to do it." Dean tells Sam.

"Dean...no. I gotta find Dad. I gotta find Jessica's killer. It's the only thing I can think about." Sam tells Dean.

"Okay, all right, Sam, we'll find them, I promise. Listen to me. You've gotta prepare yourself. I mean, this search could take a while, and all that anger, you can't keep it burning over the long haul. It's gonna kill you. You gotta have patience, man." Dean tells Sam.

Sam looks down, then up. "How do you do it? How does Dad do it?" Sam asks us.

Dean looks over at Haley and Ben.

"Well for one, them." Dean tells Sam.

"For Momma." Laila says.

"And for you guys." I say.

Sam looks over at Haley and Ben.

"I mean, I figure our family is so screwed to hell, maybe we can help some others. Makes things a little bit more bearable." Dean tells Sam.

A pause.

"I'll tell you what else helps." Dean says.

Sam looks back at Dean.

"Killing as many evil sons of bitches as I possibly can." Dean says.

Sam smiles. A twig snaps.

"Help me! Please!" Someone, presumably the Wendigo cries out.

Dean stands and readies his gun and so do I while Laila aims her arrows.

"Help!" the Wendigo cries out, trying to lure us out.

Sam shines a flashlight about.

"He's trying to draw us out. Just stay cool, stay put." Dean tells Roy, Ben, and Hales.

"Inside the magic circle?" Roy asks Dean.

"Help! Help me!" the Wendigo cries out.

Growling.

Roy points his gun at the sound.

"Okay, that's no grizzly." Roy says.

Haley talks to Ben. "It's okay. You'll be all right, I promise." Haley tells Ben. Something rushes past. Haley shrieks.

"It's here." Sam says.

Roy shoots at the rustling, then again. "I hit it!" Roy says. Roy goes to see what he hit.

"Roy, no! Roy!" Dean calls after Roy

Dean turns to Haley and Ben. "Don't move." Dean tells Haley and Ben.

Haley's holding a stick, burning at one end, as a weapon. Dean and Sam run after Roy.

"It's over here! It's in the tree!" Roy tells us.

The Wendigo reaches down from the tree and snaps Roy's neck.

"Roy!" Dean shouts.

Sam shines the flashlight around.

Forest - Day

Sam is sitting against a hollow tree stump, holding Dad's journal and playing with a lanyard attached to it. Dean, Laila, Haley and Ben and I are among the tents.

"I don't...I mean, these types of things, they aren't supposed to be real." Haley says.

"I wish I could tell you different." Dean says.

"How do we know it's not out there watching us?" Haley asks us.

"We don't. But we're safe for now." Dean tells Haley.

"But we'll protect you." Laila says.

"Starting now. I'll take first watch." I tell Haley

"How do you know about this stuff?" Haley asks us.

A pause while Dean considers.

"Kind of runs in the family." Dean tells her.

Sam comes over. "Hey." Sam says.

Haley stands up.

"So, we've got half a chance in the daylight. And I for one want to kill this evil son of a bitch." Sam says,

"Well, hell, you know I'm in." Dean says.

"I'm always in." Laila says.

"You know I am." I tell them.

Sam shows the wendigo page of Dad's journal to Haley and Ben. "'Wendigo' is a Cree Indian word. It means 'evil that devours'." Sam says.

"They're hundreds of years old. Each one was once a man. Sometimes an Indian, or other times a frontiersman or a miner or hunter." Dean tells Haley and Ben.

"How's a man turn into one of those things?" Haley asks us.

Dean picks a couple things up off the ground. "Well, it's always the same. During some harsh winter a guy finds himself starving, cut off from supplies or help. Becomes a cannibal to survive, eating other members of his tribe or camp." Dean tells Hales.

"Like the Donner Party." Ben says.

"Cultures all over the world believe that eating human flesh gives a person certain abilities. Speed, strength, immortality." Sam says.

"If you eat enough of it, over years, you become this less than human thing. You're always hungry." Dean says.

Lei and I look away, knowing Tom might be alive but he could be dead.

"So, if that's true, how can Tommy still be alive?" Haley asks us.

"You're not gonna like it." Dean tells the siblings. Dean glances at Sam, Lei, and me, then back to Haley.

"Tell me." Haley says.

"More than anything, a wendigo knows how to last long winters without food. It hibernates for years at a time, but when it's awake it keeps its victims alive. It, uh, it stores them, so it can feed whenever it wants. If your brother's alive, it's keeping him somewhere dark, hidden, and safe. We gotta track it back there." Dean tells Haley, grim.

"And then how do we stop it?" Haley asks Dean

"Well, guns are useless, so are knives. Basically—" Dean says. Dean holds up the can of lighter fluid, the beer bottle, and the white cloth he'd picked up. "We gotta torch the sucker." Dam tells Hales.

Laila POV

Forest – Day

Dean leads the way through the woods, Molotov cocktail in hand. Haley follows, then Ben, then Lore, then Sam, then me. We pass trees with claw marks and blood.

Later

Sam is leading the group now.

"Dean." Sam calls Dean.

Dean catches up. "What is it?" Dean asks Sam.

Sam and Dean look around at the trees. There are bloody claw marks and broken branches everywhere.

"You know, I was thinking, those claw prints, so clear and distinct. They were almost too easy to follow." Sam tells us.

Growling. Sam and Dean whip around. Trees rustle.

Haley is standing under a tree. Blood drips on her shirt. She notices and looks up, then leaps out of the way; Roy's corpse lands where she'd stood.

Dean examines Roy as Sam goes over to Haley.

"You okay? You got it?" Sam asks Haley

"His neck's broke." Dean tells us after examining the body.

Sam helps Haley up. More growling.

"Okay, run, run, run, run, go, go, go!" Dean tells us.

Everybody takes off.

Ben falls and Sam hurries back to help him up, dividing the group two and two.

"Come on, I gotcha, I gotcha." Sam tells Ben.

Dean and Haley stop short: the wendigo is in front of them. Haley screams.

"Haley?" Ben calls out.

Sam stops running and picks up Dean's Molotov cocktail, the bottle broken.

"Dean!" Sam calls out.

"Jerkface!" Lore calls for Dean.

"Deano!" I call.

"If it keeps its victims alive, why would it kill Roy?" Ben asks us after we get our weapons, Sais for Lore and bows and arrows for me.

"Honestly? I think because Roy shot at it, pissed it off." Sam tells Ben.

Ben finds a trail of peanut M&Ms and picks one up.

"They went this way." Ben tells us.

"Thank you Dean." Lore says.

"For your unhealthy habits." I finish.

Sam catches up to Ben, who hands over the M&M. Sam laughs.

"It's better than breadcrumbs." Sam tells Ben.

Sam tosses the M&M away.

Sam, Lore, Ben, and I follow the trail. They come to a mine entrance marked with a sign that says WARNING! DANGER! DO NOT ENTER EXTREMELY TOXIC MATERIAL. Sam looks at Ben, shrugs, and goes inside. Ben follows, Lore follows after Ben, and I follow her. Above the entrance is a larger sign that says KEEP OUT NO ADMITTANCE.

Mine - Day

Sam shines the flashlight ahead of them. Growling; Sam shuts off the light and pulls Ben against, Ben pulls Lore, Lore pulls me against the wall. The Wendigo comes towards us. Sam covers Ben's mouth before he can scream. The Wendigo takes a different tunnel at the crossing. Sam, Ben, Lore and I keep going. The floorboards creak and Ben, Lore, Sam and I fall through the floor; we land in a pile of bones. There is another pile nearby of skulls. Ben spots them and leaps backward.

"Hey, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay." Sam tells Ben.

Sam, Lore, Ben and I look up; Dean and Haley are hanging by their wrists from the ceiling. Sam Lore and I run to Dean, Ben to Haley.

"Dean!" Sam shouts.

"Haley, wake up!" Ben shouts, trying to wake Hales

Sam grabs Dean and shakes him. "Dean!" Sam shouts at Dean.

Dean opens his eyes.

"Hey, you okay?" Sam asks Dean.

Dean winces. "Yeah." Dean says.

"Bull." Lorelai calls him out on his bluff.

"Haley, Haley, wake up, wake up!" Ben says.

Sam cuts Dean down and Ben takes care of Haley. They help them over to an empty patch of floor and get them sat down. Dean makes pained noises.

"You sure you're all right?" Sam asks Dean.

Dean grimaces. "Yeah. Yep. Where is he?" Dean says.

"He's gone for now." Sam tells Dean.

Haley divests herself of rope. She stands up and spots Tom still hanging and starts crying.

"Tommy..." Haley says. Haley touches Tom's cheek. Tom's head jerks up. Haley jumps back and shrieks. She turns to Sam. "Cut him down!" She tells Sam.

Sam cuts Tom down.

"We're gonna get you home." Haley tells Tom.

The stolen supplies are piled in the corner. Dean picks up flare guns.

"Check it out. " Dean tells us.

"Flare guns. Those'll work." Sam says. Sam grins. Dean laughs and twirls the guns.

They head down a tunnel, Dean, Sam, Lore, and I in the lead with the flare guns and Haley and Ben supporting Tom, who is limping.

Growling.

"Looks like someone's home for supper." Dean says.

"We'll never outrun it." Haley tells us.

Dean looks back at the others.

"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Dean asks us.

"Yeah, I think so." Sam says.

"All right, listen to me. Stay with Sam, Lore, and Lei. They're gonna get you out of here." Dean tells Haley, Tom, and Ben.

"What are you gonna do? " Haley asks Dean.

Dean winks and starts walking and yelling.

"Chow time, you freaky bastard! Yeah, that's right, bring it on, baby, I taste good." Dean tells the Wendigo and I facepalm.

The rest of Dean's words are indistinct.

Sam waits until Dean is a safe distance away.

"All right, come on! Hurry!" Sam, Lore and I tell the Collins' siblings.

The Collinses follow Sam, Lore, and I down the tunnel.

Dean POV

"Hey, you want some white meat, bitch! I'm right here!" I say.

Lei POV

Sam, Lore, Haley, Ben, Tom, and I hurry down a tunnel.

Growling. Sam points the gun at it, then lowers the gun and turns to the Collinses.

"Get him outta here." Sam tells Haley and Ben, knowing we'll follow.

"Sam, no." Haley says.

"Go! Go! Go!" Sam says, Lore and I standing with him.

"Come on, Haley!" Ben tells Haley.

Haley and Ben help Tom along the mine tunnel.

Sam holds the flare gun ready to shoot, looking down the tunnel.

"Come on. Come on." Sam says.

Growling. Sam turns: the Wendigo is right in his face. Sam shoots and misses, then runs after the Collinses.

"Sam!" Haley shouts.

Sam catches up.

"Come on, hurry, hurry, hurry." Sam says.

"We're hurrying." Lore and I say.

They run to the end of the tunnel, the Wendigo right behind.

"Get behind us." Sam says, gesturing to all three of us.

Sam is large enough to hide all three Collinses.

The Wendigo approaches, taking its time.

Dean comes up behind the Wendigo.

"Hey!" Dean says.

The Wendigo turns. Dean shoots it in the stomach. The flare goes off and the Wendigo goes up in flames.

"Not bad, huh?" Dean asks us.

Sam grins, Lore laughs, and I snort.

Ranger Station - Night

An ambulance loads up Tom. Two Police Officers interview Ben; Sam stands behind Ben.

"And the bear came back again after you yelled at it?" one officer asks.

"That's when it circled the campsite. I mean, this grizzly must have weighed eight hundred, nine hundred pounds." Ben tells him.

Sam nods.

"All right, we'll go after it first thing." the other officer says.

Haley talks to Dean; both have already been patched up.

"So, I don't know how to thank you." Haley tells Dean.

Dean smirks lasciviously. Haley smiles despite herself.

"Must you cheapen the moment?" Haley asks Dean.

"Yeah." Dean says.

"At least you told her the truth." Lore teases Dean.

"You always cheapen the moment." I tell Dean.

A Paramedic comes up to Haley.

"You riding with your brother?" the paramedic asks Haley.

"Yeah." Haley tells the paramedic.

The paramedic heads back to the ambulance. Haley turns to Ben.

"Let's go." Haley tells Ben.

Sam and Ben nod at each other. Haley kisses Dean on the cheek.

"I hope you find your father." Haley tells us. Haley and Ben head for the ambulance. "Thanks, Sam, Lorelai, Lei." Haley thanking us. Haley and Ben climb in the ambulance with Tom, who is shirtless and bandaged.

Sam sits on the Impala's hood with Dean.

"Close her up." the second paramedic says.

A third paramedic closes the ambulance doors.

"Man, I hate camping." Dean says.

"Figures." Lore and I both say.

"Me too." Sam says.

Noises of the ambulance driving away, sirens on.

"Sam, Lore, Lei, you know we're gonna find Dad, right?" Dean asks us.

"Yeah, I know. But in the meantime? I'm driving." Sam tells Dean and Lore and I laugh at that.

Dean tosses Sam the keys.

"Fly By Night" by Rush begins to play.

Sam, Dean, Lore and I get in the car, slamming the doors almost in sync.

Why try? I know why

The car starts and drives off.
