Third Person POV

Roosevelt Asylum, Rockford, Illinois

Inside the Asylum

A deserted building. Graffiti and rubbish everywhere. Torch light moves along the walls, a chain across a door is broken.

Outside the Asylum

A police car pulls up. Two cops walk up to chain link fence surrounding the building.

"Can't keep kids out of this place." the first cop says.

"What is it, anyway?" the second cop asks.

"I forgot! You're not a local. You don't know the legend." the first cop says.

"Legend?" the second cop asks.

"Every town's got it's stories, right? Ours is Roosevelt Asylum. They say it's haunted with the ghosts of the patients. Spend the night, the spirits will drive you insane." the first cop says.

Inside the Asylum

The cops enter with flashlights.

"Hello? Police Officers...Po-lice Officers!" the first cop says.

They see the broken chain on the floor.

"You telling me these kids brought bolt-cutters? C'mon. Let's split up." cop 1 says.

"Right." Cop 2 says.

"Hello? Hello?" cop two calls out, now alone.

POV switches between cops wandering about alone.

"Alright, c'mon out." Cop 1 tells the kids, as he wanders into another room.

The flashlight reveals three kids sitting in the dark.

Cop 2's flashlight goes out and he shakes it.

A door creaks open, POV from the doorway, looking at cop. He slowly turns to look at the door.

Outside the Asylum

Cop 1 watches a car drive off then reaches for his radio.

"Kelly, you copy?" Cop 1 asks.

Cop 2, Kelly appears suddenly behind him.

"Jeez! Where the hell you been?" Cop 1 asks, jumping.

"In there..." Kelly says.

"What was it? See anything?" Cop 1 asks.

"Huh. No." Kelly tells Cop one.

They return to the police car.

"This is patrol one four. We are clear and returning to station." Cop 1 states into the car radio.

"Roger." the voice on the radio says

Kelly's nose starts to bleed. He wipes it slowly.

Inside Kelly House

Kelly enters bedroom. A woman is reading in bed.

"Hey." the woman says.

Kelly begins lining up gun, keys, etc, on a chest of drawers.

"So, what? You're still not talking to me? Walt! I said I was sorry about before – how many times do I have to say it?" Kelly's wife says.

Kelly picks up the gun.

Outside the Kelly House – View of the Window

Sounds of gunshot. A brief pause, then another gunshot.

Inside the Motel Room

Lore POV

"No, Dad was in California last we heard from him. We just thought...he comes to you for 'munitions... maybe you've seen him in the last few weeks. Just, call us if you hear anything." Sam says, on the phone.

"'kay." the voice says on the phone.

"Thanks." Sam says.

"You bet." the voice says.

"Caleb hasn't heard from him?" Dean asks.

"Nope. And neither has Jefferson or Pastor Jim. What about the journal? Anything leads in there?" Sam asks.

"No, same as last time I looked. Nothing I can make out... I love the guy, but I swear, he writes like friggin' Yoda." Dean tells us as Laila paints momma.

"You know, maybe we should call the Feds. File a missing person's." Sam says.

"And maybe you should tell us the truth." Laila says."

We've talked about this. Dad'd be pissed if we put the Feds on his tail." De says, while trying to ignore us."

I don't care anymore. And we need to tell them De. Now or never." Sam tells Dean.

Dean's cellphone rings. Dean crosses the room.

"After all that happened back in Kansas, I mean...he should've been there, Dean. You said so yourself. You tried to call him and... nothing." Sam says, staring Dean down.

"I know!" De says. He rummages through his duffel. "Where the hell is my cellphone?" De asks.

"You know, he could be dead for all we know." Sam says and I whack him for that.

"Don't say that! He's not dead! He's – he's..." De starts to say.

"He's what? He's hiding? He's busy?" Sam asks Dean.

Dean finds and flicks opens the cellphone.

BACK REPLY

"Huh. I don't believe it." Dean says, quietly.

"What?" Sam asks.

"It's, uh... It's a text message. It's coordinates. And an order. To tell the twins." De says. Dean tells us everything. How dad met mom on a hunt saving her from a werewolf, marrying her 2 years later, how she discovered she was pregnant, and the hunt. Where she was fatally injured by a siren, but dad didn't believe in C section at the time.

Dean is typing on laptop.

"You think Dad was texting us?" Sam asks Dean.

"He's given us coordinates before." De says.

"The man can barely work a toaster, Dean." Sam tells De.

"Sam, it's good news! It means he's okay, or alive at least." Dean says.

"Well, was there a number on the caller ID?" Sam asks.

"Nah, it said 'unknown'." Dean says.

"Well, where do the coordinates point?" Sam asks.

"That's the interesting part. Rockford, Illinois." De says.

"Ok, and that's interesting how?" Sam asks.

"I checked the local Rockford paper. Take a look at this." Dean says. "This cop, Walter Kelly, comes home from his shift, shoots his wife, then puts the gun in his mouth, blows his brains out. And earlier that night, Kelly and his partner responded to a call at the Roosevelt Asylum." Dean says.

"Okay, I'm not following. What has this have to do with us?" Sam asks.

"Ditto." I say.

"Dad earmarked the same asylum in the journal. Let's see..." Dean says. "Here. Seven unconfirmed sightings, two deaths – till last week at least. I think this is where he wants us to go." Dean says.

Sam snorts. "This is a job... Dad wants us to work a job." Sam says.

"Well, maybe we'll meet up with him? Maybe he's there?" Dean tells Sam.

"Maybe he's not? I mean, he could be sending us there, by ourselves, to hunt this thing." Sam tells Dean.

"I'm with Sam on this." Laila says.

"Who cares! If he wants us there, it's good enough for me!" De says, and I roll my eyes as I know how stubborn he can be.

"This doesn't strike you as weird? The texting? The coordinates?" Sam asks De.

"Sam! Dad's tellin' us to go somewhere, we're goin'." Dean says.

"Dean, you're impossible!" I tell him.

Sam makes a bitchface and sighs. Too bad Lei and I don't have our cars or motorcycles. Apparently, they needed tuning so Harry and Razi took them to Bobby.

Inside the bar

Cop 1 sits at the bar.

"You're Daniel Gunderson. You're a cop, right?" Dean asks.

"Yeah." Gunderson says.

I won't just survive Oh, you will see me thrive Can't write my story I'm beyond the archetype I won't just conform No matter how you shake my core 'Cause my roots, they run deep, oh

"Huh. I'm uh, Nigel Tufnel, The Chicago Tribune. Mind if I ask you a couple of questions, about your partner?" Dean asks Gunderson

"Yeah, I do. I'm just tryin' to have a beer here." Gunderson tells De while I read Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis, while listening to music.

Oh, ye of so little faith

Don't doubt it, don't doubt it

Victory is in my veins

I know it, I know it

And I will not negotiate

I'll fight it, I'll fight it

I will transform

"That's okay, I swear it won't take that long. I just want to get the story in your words." De says.

"A week ago, my partner was sitting in that chair. Now he's dead. You gonna ambush me here?" Gunderson asks.

When, when the fire's at my feet again

And the vultures all start circling

They're whispering, you're out of time

But still, I rise

This is no mistake, no accident

When you think the final nail is in, think again

Don't be surprised, I will still rise

"Sorry. But I need to know what happened." De says.

Sam pushes Dean aside roughly.

I must stay conscious Through the madness and chaos So I call on my angels They say

"Hey buddy, why don't you leave the poor guy alone! The man's an officer! Why dontcha show a little respect!" Sam tells De.

Dean pauses, staring, then walks off.

Oh, ye of so little faith

Don't doubt it, don't doubt it

Victory is in your veins

You know it, you know it

And you will not negotiate

Just fight it, just fight it

And be transformed

"You didn't havta do that." Gunderson tells Sam.

"Yeah, course I did. That guy's a serious jerk. Let me buy you a beer, huh?" Sam tells Gunderson. Sam looks at the barman "Two?" Sam asks the bartender.

'Cause when, when the fire's at my feet again And the vultures all start circling They're whispering, you're out of time But still, I rise This is no mistake, no accident When you think the final nail is in, think again Don't be surprised, I will still rise

"Thanks." Gunderson says.

Don't doubt it, don't doubt

Oh, oh, oh, oh

You know it, you know it

Still rise

Just fight it, just fight it

Don't be surprised, I will still rise

Sam Laila, and I walk out of the bar.

"Shoved me kinda hard in there, buddy boy." Dean tells Sam, sitting o on the Impala.

"I had to sell it, didn't I? It's method acting." Sam tells Dean. I cough into my hand and say liar.

"Huh?" Dean asks.

"Never mind." Sam says.

"What'd you find out from Gunderson?" Dean asks us.

"So, Walter Kelly was a good cop. Head of his class, even-keeled, he had a bright future ahead of him." Sam says.

"What about at home?" Dean asks.

"He and his wife had a few fights, like everybody, but he was mostly smooth sailing. They were even talking about having kids." Sam says.

"Alright, so either Kelly had some deep-seated crazy waiting to bust out, or something else did it to him." De says.

"Right." Sam tells Dean.

"What'd Gunderson tell you about the asylum?" Dean asks.

"A lot."

Outside the Asylum

Laila POV

Sam, Dean, Lore, and I jump over the tall chain linked fence at the asylum and enter.

Inside the Asylum

"So apparently the cops chased the kids here... into the south wing." Sam tells us. Sam indicates a sign over one door.

"South wing, huh? Wait a second." De says and I wait. He flips through Dad's journal.) "1972. Three kids broke into the south wing, only one survived. Way, he tells it, one of his friends went nuts and started lighting up the place." Dean says

"History lesson over? We get it. Bad juju." I tell Dean

"So, whatever's going on, the south wing is the heart of it." Sam tells us.

"But if the kids are spelunking the asylum, why aren't there a ton more deaths?" De asks.

Sam looks around. He notices the broken chain. "Looks like the doors are usually chained. Could've been chained up for years." Sam says.

"Yeah, to keep people out. Or to keep something in." Dean says.

They look at each other, then Sam slowly pushes the door open.

Sam, Dean Lore and I walk down a hallway.

"Let me know if you see any dead people, Haley Joel." Dean tells Sam but Lorelai whack Dean.

"Dude, enough." Sam tells Dean.

"I'm serious. You gotta be careful, all right? Ghosts are attracted to that whole ESP thing you got going on." De tells Sam.

"I told you, it's not ESP! I just have strange vibes sometimes. Weird dreams." Sm says.

"Yeah, whatever. Don't ask, don't tell." Dean says.

"You get any reading on that thing or not?" Sam asks Dean.

"Nope. Of course, it doesn't mean no one's home." Dean tells us.

"Spirits can't appear during certain hours of the day." Sam says.

"Yeah, the freaks come out at night." De says.

"Yeah." Sam says.

"Hey Sam, who do you think is the hotter psychic: Patricia Arquette, Jennifer Love Hewitt, or you?" Dean deadpans.

"No, that would be me." Lorelai says, stunning our brothers.

Sam pushes Dean, who blushes.

Inside of Another room

We all look around.

"Man. Electro-shock. Lobotomies. They did some twisted stuff to these people. Kinda like my man Jack in Cuckoo's Nest." Dean says, whistling. Dean makes crazy eyes and grins at Sam, Lorelai, and me.

Sam, Lore, and I ignore him and Dean's smile drops. We look around some more.

"So. Whaddaya think? Ghosts possessing people?" Dean asks.

"Maybe. Or maybe it's more like Amityville, or the Smurl hunting." Sam tells Dean.

"Spirits driving them insane. Kinda like my man Jack in The Shining." Dean says and grins.

"Dean." Sam says. Dean looks at him) "When are we going to talk about it?" Sam asks Dean.

"Talk about what?" Dean asks.

"About the fact Dad's not here." Sam tells Dean.

"Oh. I see. How 'bout...never." Dean tells Sam

"I'm being serious, man. He sent us here..." Sam says.

"So am I, Sam. Look, he sent us here, he obviously wants us here. We'll pick up the search later." De says and I sigh.

"It doesn't matter what he wants." Sam says.

"See. That attitude? Right there? That is why I always get the extra cookie." Dean tells Sam.

"Dad could be in trouble, we should be looking for him. We deserve some answers, Dean. I mean, this is our family we're talking about." Sam tells Dean.

"I understand that, Sam, but he's given us an order." Dean says.

"So what, we gotta always follow Dad's orders?" Sam asks.

"Of course we do." Dean tells us.

"The perfect soldier you are." Lorelai says.

"Honestly De, we want to find dad, not to blindly follow him." I tell De.

Sam gives Dean a frustrated face. Dean stares at him then turns away, ending the conversation.

"'Sanford Ellicott'...You know what we gotta do. We gotta find out more about the south wing. See if something happened here." De says, poking around and picking up the sign, and I wanna knee him in the groin.

Dean walks away, leaving the sign with Sam, who stares down at it with a bitchface.

Inside A Waiting Room

Sam POV

Sam sits on couch flicking through a magazine. A man comes to the open door. The sign on the door reads 'Dr James Ellicott, Clinical Psychiatry'.

"Sam Winchester?" Dr. Ellicott asks.

"That's me." I say.

"Come on in." Dr. Ellicott says.

We move into the inner room.

"Thanks again for seeing me last minute." I tell him.

I look around the room. "Dr...Ellicott. Ellicott, that name. Wasn't there a...a Dr. Sanford Ellicott? Yeah, he was a chief psychiatrist somewhere." I say.

"My father was chief of staff at the old Roosevelt Asylum. How did you know?" Dr. Ellicott asks me.

"Ah. Well, I'm sorta...a local history buff. Hey, wasn't there, an incident or something? In the hospital, I guess. In the south wing, right?" I ask.

"We're on your dollar, Sam. We're here to talk about you." Dr. Ellicott says.

"Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. Sure." I say.

"So. How's things?" Dr. Ellicott asks.

"Ah, things are good, doctor." I say.

"Good. Whatcha been doing?" Dr. Ellicott asks.

"Ahh, same old. I just been on a... on a road trip with my older brother and my younger sisters." I say.

"Was that fun?" He asks.

(long pause) "Loads. Umm. You know, we...ahh...we...met...a lot of ...interesting people. Did a lot of ...ah...interesting things...ahhh. You know? What was it exactly that happened in the south wing? I forget..." I ask.

"Look, if you're a local history buff, you know all about the Roosevelt riot." Ellicott says.

"The riot. Well, no. I know. I'm just curious." I say.

"Sam. Let's cut the bull, shall we. You're avoiding the subject." Ellicott says.

"What subject?" I ask.

"You. Now I'll make you a deal. I'll tell you all about the Roosevelt riot, if you tell me something honest about yourself. Like, uh, this brother and these sisters you're road tripping with. How do you feel about your brother? How do you feel about your sisters?" Ellicott asks.

I look a little freaked out.

Outside

Laila POV

Dean, Lore, and I lean against glass windows next to the door, looking bored.

Sam walks past. Dean, Lorelai, and I catch up and match his pace.

"Dude! You were in there forever. What the hell were you talking about?" Dean asks Sam.

"Just the hospital, you know." Sam tells Dean.

"And...?" De asks.

"And the south wing? It's where the housed the really hard cases. The psychotics, the criminally insane." Sam says.

"Sounds cozy." Dean says.

"Yeah. And one night in '64, they rioted. Attacked staff. Attacked each other." Sam says.

"So, the patients took over the asylum?" Dean asks.

"Apparently." Sam says.

"Any deaths?" Dean asks.

"Some patients, some staff. I guess it was pretty gory. Some of the bodies were never even recovered, including our chief of staff, Ellicott." Sam says.

"Whaddaya mean, never recovered?" De asks, as Lore and I continue reading our copies of Prince of Wolves.

"Cops scoured every inch of the place but I guess the patients must've...stuffed the bodies somewhere hidden." Sam says.

"That's grim." Dean says.

"Yeah. So, they transferred all the remaining patients and closed the hospital down." Sam tells us.

"So, to sum it up, we've got a bunch of violent deaths and a bunch of unrecovered bodies." Dean says.

"And a bunch of angry spirits." Sam says.

"Good times. Let's check out the hospital tonight." Dean tells us.

Inside the Asylum

Third Person POV

Torchlight approaches behind a door. Heads are seen. The door creaks open. A young man and woman, university aged, enter.

"Check this out! Creepy...yet terrifying." the guy says.

"I thought we were going to a movie." the girl says.

"This is better. It's like we're in a movie." the guy tells the girl.

"I can't believe you call this a date." the girl says, huffing.

"C'mon, it'll be fun. Let's look around. C'mon!" the guy says.

They move further along.

"What's that?" the guy asks when there's jumping and swinging around.

The girl swings around. The guy pokes her and she jumps, then hits him. He laughs.

"Hey look. C'mon, let's check it out." the guy says.

"I...don't want to. Let's just go." the girl tells the guy.

"C'mon!" the guy says.

They stare at each other.

"Okay. Okay, you can wait here." the guy says.

"W– Gavin. No." the girl tells Gavin.

"I'm just gonna be a minute. Nothing's gonna get ya, I promise." Gavin tells the girl.

Gavin moves into the next room alone. The door slams behind him. He looks at it, grins, and keeps going. In the doorway a female figure with long hair is seen in shadow just as Gavin's flashlight fails. He shakes it.

"Damn it." Gavin says.

He turns around "Hey, Sweetie. Couldn't take it, huh?" Gavin says.

The female is coming closer and putting her hands either side of his face "Hey." the female tells Gavin.

They start making out.

"Gavin? Gavin, where are you?" the girl calls out in the distance.

Gavin pulls back and freaks out.

Lorelai POV

Back at the entrance. Sam pushes open the door, Dean, Laila, and I beside him.

Sam is holding a video camera and flashlight, Dean an EMF meter, I'm holding another camera and flashlight, and Laila is holding a recorder.

We come into this world unknown

But know that we are not alone

They try and knock us down

But change is coming, it's our time now

"Getting readings?" Sam asks Dean.

Hey, everybody loses it

Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes

And hey, yeah I know what you're going through

Don't let it get the best of you, you'll make it out alive

"Yeah, big time." Dean says.

"This place is orbing like crazy." Sam tells us, not knowing I see the actual spirits.

Oh, people like us we've gotta stick together Keep your head up, nothing lasts forever Here's to the damned to the lost and forgotten It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom

"Probably multiple spirits out and about." De says.

"And if these uncovered bodies are causing the haunting..." Sam says.

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

We are all misfits living in a world on fire

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

Hey, this is not a funeral

It's a revolution, after all your tears have turned to rage

Just wait, everything will be okay

Even when you're feeling like it's going down in flames

Oh, people like us we've gotta stick together

Keep your head up nothing lasts forever

Here's to the damned, to the lost and forgotten

It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

We are all misfits living in a world on fire

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

"We gotta find 'em and burn 'em. Just be careful though. The only thing that makes me more nervous than a pissed off spirit... is the pissed off spirit of a psycho killer." Dean tells us.

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

You've just gotta turn it up loud when the flames get higher

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

They can't do nothing to you, they can't do nothing to me

This is the life that we choose, this is the life that we bleed

So throw your fists in the air, come out, come out if you dare

Tonight we're gonna change forever

Everybody loses it

Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes

Oh, people like us we've gotta stick together

Keep your head up nothing lasts forever

Here's to the damned, to the lost and forgotten

It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

We are all misfits living in a world on fire

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

You've just got to turn it up loud when the flames get higher

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

They keep walking. Meanwhile, we didn't see a crazed-looking bald man strapped into a straitjacket in the corner.

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

We're all misfits living in a world on fire

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

You've just got to turn it up loud when the flames get higher

Oh, woah-oh-oh, woah-oh

Sing it for the people like us, the people like us

Sam, Dean, Laila, and I keep looking and move into separate rooms. After a minute Sam and I see an old woman through the video lens; white haired, one eye bloody and hanging out, moving toward him.

"Dean? Dean! Laila!" Sam calls Dean and Laila, since, well I'm already here. Dean and Laila run into the room, rummaging in their bags at the same time. "Shotgun!" Sam and I say.

"Sam, get down!" Dean shouts at Sam.

"Lorelai get down!" Laila shouts at me.

Sam and I throw ourselves on the ground. Dean and Laila shoot the woman. She disintegrates.

We all look around, gasping.

"That was weird." Sam says.

"Yeah." I say.

"Yeah. You're telling me." De tells us.

Dean and Laila start moving out of the room. Sam and I follow.

"No, Dean, I mean it was weird that she didn't attack me or Lorelai." Sam points out. Sure throw me into this.

"Looked pretty aggro from where I was standing." Dean says.

"She didn't hurt me. She didn't even try! So if she didn't wanna hurt me then what did she want?" Sam asks Dean.

A noise comes from a room they are passing. Dean and Laila immediately raise their shotguns and Sam and I flicks on the torches and shines it into the room. We approach a metal bed covered in a ragged sheet, on its side. They see the top of a blonde head behind it. We brace themselves. Sam reaches out and tips the bed over. The girl from earlier is crouched facing the corner. She spins around, terrified and gasping.

"It's alright, we're not going to hurt you. It's okay. What's your name?" Dean asks the girl.

"Katherine. Kat." Kat says. Such irony.

"Okay. I'm Dean, this is Sam, and our little sisters Laila, and Lorelai." Dean tells Kat.

"What are you doing here!?" Sam asks Kat.

"Um. My boyfriend, Gavin." Kat says.

"Is he here?" Dean asks.

"Somewhere. He thought it would be fun, try and see some ghosts. I thought it was all just...you know. Pretend. I've seen things. I heard Gavin scream and..." Kat says.

"Alright. Kat? Come on. Sam and Lorelai's gunna get you out of here and then we're gunna find your boyfriend." Dean says

"No! No. I'm not going to leave without Gavin. I'm coming with you." Kat tells her.

"It's no joke around here, okay. It's dangerous." De says.

"That's why I gotta find him." Kat says.

Dean, Sam, Laila and I all look at each other. Sam and I shrug.

"Alright, I guess we gunna split up then Laila with me, Sam and Lore, you're a team. Let's go." Dean says.

"Gavin... Gavin?" Sam calls out, wandering around.

Laila POV

"Gavin... Gavin?" Kat calls out.

"I got a question for ya. You've seen a lot of horror movies, yeah?" Dean asks Kat and I whack him.

"I guess so." Kat says.

Dean turns to face her "Do me a favor. Next time you see one? Pay attention. When someone says a place is haunted...don't go in!" Dean tells Kat.

As we move on, a dark shape moves across the inside of the window.

Lorelai POV

We see Gavin on the ground unconscious and crouch to shake him. Gavin wakes and freaks out "Hey, Gavin. It's okay, I'm here to help." Sam tells Gavin.

"Who are you?" Gavin asks us.

"My name is Sam, this is my sister Lorelai. Uh, we found your girlfriend." Sam says.

"Kat?" Gavin asks. Gavin gets up. "Is she alright?" Gavin asks.

"Yeah. She's worried about you. Are you okay?" Sam says.

"I was running. I think I fell." Gavin says.

"You were running from what?" Sam asks Gavin.

"There was...there was this girl. Her face. It was all messed up." Gavin says.

"Okay listen, did this girl... did she try and hurt you?" Sam asks.

"What? No, she...uh..." Gavin starts to say

"She what?" Sam asks.

"She...kissed me." Gavin says.

"Uh...um...but...but she didn't hurt you, physically?" Sam asks Gavin as I silently laugh.

"Dude! She kissed me. I'm scarred for life!" Gavin says.

"Well, trust me, it could have been worse. Now do you remember anything else?" Sam asks.

"She uh...actually, she tried to whisper something in my ear." Gavin tells us.

"What?" Sam and I ask.

"I don't know. I ran like hell." Gavin tells us

"Crybaby." I say.

Laila POV

Dean, Kat, and I are in another hallway, Dean leading the way. The flashlight fades.

"You son of a bitch." De says as he shakes the flashlight. "It's alright, I got a lighter." Dean says, reaching into his pocket.

Kat turns to look behind them. "Ow. You're hurting my arm." Kat says.

"What are you talking about?" Dean and I ask her.

We turn to look at each other, realize we're too far apart to be touching, and look down. A disembodied hand is clutching Kat's arm.

Kat is dragged into a room, the metal door slamming behind her. Dean and I race to it and struggle to pull it open, Kat bangs on it from the inside but it doesn't budge.

Dean and I continue to struggle with the door.

"Lemme out! Please!" Kat shouts.

"Kat! Hang on!" Dean says.

Dean and I smash at the door with metal pipes, then tries to jimmy it open. Inside, Kat slowly backs up, looking at the door. Someone stands behind her, breathing heavily. When Kat spins around there is no one there. Dean continues banging on the door. Kat turns again and sees the ghost. Tall, heavyset, long dark oily hair, his face a bloody mess. Kat screams and backs up to the door...and backs into him. She screams again.

Sam and Lore run down hall to Dean and I, followed by Gavin. "What's going on?" Sam asks us.

"She's inside with one of them." Dean tells them.

"Help me!" Kat screams.

"Kat!" Gavin says.

Kat slides down against the door as the ghost approaches. "Get me outta here!" Kat screams.

"Kat, it's not going to hurt you. Listen to me. You've got to face it. You've got to calm down." Sam tells Kat.

Dean turns to Sam, astonished. "She's gotta what?!" Dean asks.

"I have to what?!" Kat asks, shouting it.

"These spirits, they're not trying to hurt us, they're trying to communicate. You gotta face it. You gotta listen to it." Sam tells Kat.

"You face it!" Kat tells Sam.

"No! It's the only way to get out of there." Sam tells Kat.

"No!" Kat says.

"Look at it, come on. You can do it." Sam tells Kat.

Kat, taking deep breaths, turns to face the ghost. He leans in close to her face.

"Kat?" Gavin asks.

"Man, I hope you're right about this." Dean and I tell Sam.

"Yeah, me too." Sam says.

They wait outside the door in tense silence. The lock clicks and the door slowly opens. Kat is standing in the doorway.

"Oh, Kat." Gavin says.

Sam and Lorelai go inside to check out the room. They come back out, shaking their heads at Dean.

"One thirty-seven." Kat tells us.

"Sorry?" Dean asks her.

"It whispered in my ear. 137." Kat tells us.

"Room number." Dean, Sam, Lore, and I say in synch.

Sam, Dean, Lore and I crouch against the wall where we can't be heard.

''Alright. So if these spirits aren't trying to hurt anyone..." Sam starts to say.

"Then what are they trying to do?" Dean asks.

"That's the question big brother." I tell Dean.

"Maybe that's what they've been trying to tell us..." Sammy says.

"I guess we'll find out." De says.

"Alright." Sam says.

"So, now, are you guys ready to leave this place?" Dean asks Gavin and Kat.

"That's an understatement." Kat tells us.

"Okay." Dean says. "You and Lore get them outta here. Laila and I are going to go find room 137." De tells Sam.

Lore POV

Sam and I lead Kat and Gavin down a hallway.

"So. How do you guys know about all this ghost stuff?" Kat asks us.

"It's kinda our job." Sam says.

"Why would anyone want a job like that?" Kat asks us.

Sam huffs out a laugh "We had a crappy guidance counselor." Sam says.

"And Dean? He's your boss?" Kat asks us.

Sam looks down at her "No." Sam tells her

Lei POV

Dean and I move down a hallway and shines our torches on room 137. We push against the door, using our weight to push aside the broken furniture blocking it. The room is a mess, filing cabinets pushed over, papers everywhere, the walls stained. We shine the torches around, flicks through some folders lying in a cabinet, and keep on looking.

Lore POV

Sam and I march down a hallway and try the door, but it's locked. We try another one, also locked.

"Alright. I think we have a small problem." Sam says.

"Then break it down." Gavin tells us.

"I don't think that's gunna work." Sam tells Gavin.

"Then a window." Gavin tells us.

"They're barred." Kat tells us.

"Then how are we supposed to get out?" Gavin asks.

"That's the point. We're not. There's something in here. It doesn't want us to leave." Sam says.

"Those patients..." Kat says.

"No. Something else." Sam tells Kat.

Lei POV

Dean and I are still searching the room. We find a loose panel and pries it off. Behind it is a satchel full of papers.

"This is why I get paid the big bucks." De says and I clear my throat.

Inside is a journal with many notes and hand-drawn pictures of medical instruments. DEAN pulls up a chair and starts reading, looking concerned.

"Well, all work and no play makes Dr. Ellicott a very dull boy." Dean says.

A noise makes us look up quickly.

Lore POV

Sam and I are moving back down a hallway toward Kat and Gavin. "Alright, I've looked everywhere. There's no other way out." Sam says.

"So, what the hell are we gunna do?" Gavin asks us.

"Well for starters, we're not gunna panic." Sam tells Gavin.

"Why the hell not!" Gavin asks.

Sam's phone rings and he answers.

"Hey." Sam says.

"Sam, it's me. I see it. It's coming at me." "Dean" says on a bad line.

"Where are you?" Sam asks Dean.

"I'm in the basement. Hurry up!" "Dean" says.

"I'm on my way." Sam says.

Sam hangs up and looks at Kat and Gavin.

"Alright, can either of you handle a shotgun?" Sam asks them.

"What? No!" Gavin tells Sam.

"I can." Kat tells Sam.

Gavin looks at her in amazement.

"My dad took me skeet shooting a coupla times." Kat says.

"Alright, here. It's loaded with rock salt. It may not kill a spirit, but it will repel it. So, if you see something, shoot." Sam tells them.

"Okay." Kat says.

"'kay." Sam says.

"Dean!" Sam calls out as he searches through hallways and rooms.

Our flashlights flicker and fade. We shake and tap them. A door behind us swings open. We raises our shot guns and approach carefully.

"Dean?" Sam asks.

A shadow moves behind a ragged curtain, drawing his attention. When we pull the curtain back there's no one there. We turn...and an old beaten-up man with ragged hair and clothes grabs our faces. His hands start glowing.

"Don't be afraid. I'm going to make you all better." the man tells us.

Laila POV

Gavin paces, Kat crouches against the wall holding the shotgun.

Kat sighs "Hey, Gavin?" Kat says.

Gavin comes to crouch beside her "Yeah?" Gavin asks.

"If we make it out of here alive...we are so breaking up." Kat tells Gavin.

Gavin stares at her. They hear a noise around the corner and they both rise.

"Did you hear that?" Kat asks, raising the shotgun.

"Something's coming." Gavin says.

Dean and I come around the corner and see Kat just as she pulls the trigger. We throws ourselves back around the corner.

"Damn it, damn it, don't shoot! It's us!" Dean and I say, crouched against the wall.

"Sorry! Sorry." Kat says.

"Son of a ..." Dean starts to say. We come around the corner and looks at the marks left in the wall "What are you still doing here!? Where's Sam and Lorelai?" Dean asks.

"He went to the basement. You called him." Gavin tells us.

"And Lorelai went with. Oh, Imma kill her." I say.

"I didn't call anybody." Dean tells them and I would know. I pranked his phone.

"His cell phone rang. He said it was you." Kat says.

"Basement, huh?" Dean asks.

Dean and I look around and grab some extra weapons. "Alright. Watch yourselves...and watch out for me!" Dean tells the couple.

Dean and I are looking around in the basement) "Sammy? Sam, you down here? Sam? Sam." Dean calls for Sam.

"Lorelai! Lore!" I call out for Lorelai.

As he turn, Sam and Lore is standing right in front of us. Dean and I jump back, automatically raising our shotguns.

"Man, answer me when I'm calling you! You guys alright?" Dean asks them as I try to make sure Lorelai is okay.

"Yeah. I'm fine." Sam says.

"I'm fine Laila. Don't fret." Lore tells me.

"You know it wasn't me who called your cell, right?" Dean asks Sam.

"Yeah, I know. I think something lured us down here." Sam tells De.

"I think I know who. Dr. Ellicott. That's what the spirits have been trying to tell us. You haven't seen him, have you?" Dean asks Sam and Lorelai.

"No. How do you know it was him?" Sam asks us.

"'Cause I found his log book. Apparently he was experimenting on his patients, awful stuff. Makes lobotomies look like a coupla aspirin." Dean tells them.

"But it was the patients who rioted." Sam says.

"Yeah. They were rioting against Dr. Ellicott. Dr. Feelgood was working on some sort of, like, extreme rage therapy. He thought that if he could get his patients to vent their anger then they would be cured of it. Instead it only made them worse and worse and angrier and angrier. So I'm thinking, what if his spirit is doing the same thing? To the cop? To the kids in the seventies, making them so angry they become homicidal... Come on, we gotta find his bones and torch 'em." Dean tells them as I already know.

"How? The police never found his body." Sam says.

"The log book said he had some sort of hidden procedure room down here somewhere where he'd work on his patients. So, if I was a patient I'd drag his ass down here, do a little work on it myself." De says.

"I don't know, it sounds kinda..." Sam and Lore start to say.

"Crazy?" Dean and I say.

"Yeah."Sam and Lore say.

"Yeah. Exactly." Dean says.

Dean and I open another door, and look inside, then gesture with our heads for Sam and Lore to follow. Sam and Lore are giving Dean and I a stealthy, sly look unknown to us.

We all enter the room

"I told you we looked everywhere. We didn't find a hidden room." Sam tells us.

"Well, that's why they call it hidden..." Dean says. We hear a windy noise "You hear that?" Dean asks.

"What?" Sam and Lore ask.

Dean and I look around, and crouch and hold our hands out "There's a door here." Dean and I say.

Sam and Lore points their guns at Dean and me. "Dean. Laila." Sam and Lorelai say. A trickle of blood runs from their noses. "Step back from the door." They say.

We rise to our feet, our eyes going from the guns to Sam's and Lore's faces "Sam, Lorelai, put the guns down." We tell them.

"Is that an order?" Sam asks for both of them.

"Nah, it's more of a friendly request." Dean says

"What would Raziel think?" I ask Lorelai.

Sam raises his gun to point at Dean's chest but Lore has yet to raise her gun. "'Cause I'm getting pretty tired of taking your orders." Sam says

"I knew it. Ellicott did something to you. And good girl Lei." De whispers.

"For once in your life, just shut your mouth." Sam says.

"You shut your mouth Samuel Winchester!" I tell him.

"What are you gunna do, Sam? Gun's filled with rock salt. It's not gunna kill us." De says.

Sam shoots Dean and I in the chest. The shot blasts us backwards through the hidden door to fall on the floor.

"No. But it will hurt like hell." Sam tells us.

Hidden Room

Dean and I lie on the floor, coming to and gasp for breath.

"Sam!" Dean and I call out.

Sam stands over us.

"We gotta burn Ellicott's bones and all this will be over, and you'll be back to normal." We tell Sam, Lore behind him.

"I am normal. I'm just telling the truth for the first time. I mean, why are we even here? 'Cause you're following Dad's orders like a good little solider? Because you always do what he says without question? Are you that desperate for his approval?" Sam asks Dean, and I sigh.

"This isn't you talking, Sam." Dean tells Sam.

"That's the difference between you and me. I have a mind of my own. I'm not pathetic, like you." Sam tells De and I growl at that.

"So what are you gunna do, huh? Are you gunna kill me? Are you gunna kill Laila?" Dean asks.

"You know what, I am sick of doing what you tell me to do. We're no closer to finding Dad today than we were six months ago." Sam tells De.

"Well, then here. Let me make it easier for you." De tells Sam. He holds his Smith & Wesson toward Sam. "Come on. Take it. Real bullets are gonna work a hell of a lot better than rock salt." Dean tells Sam. Sam hesitates "Take it!!" De says.

Sam points the gun at Dean's face.

"You hate me that much? You think you could kill your own brother? Then go ahead. Pull the trigger. Do it!" Dean tells Sam.

Sam pulls the trigger. The chamber is empty. He tries again, and once more. Dean uses a right cross to knock Sam to the ground and struggles to get up.

Dean moves to stand over Sam "Man, I'm not going to give you a loaded pistol!" Dean tells Sam.

Sam stares up at him. Dean delivers a vicious right cross to knock Sam out, almost falling as he does so.

Dean pats Sammy. "Sorry, Sammy." Dean says.

Dean and I begin looking around the room, pushing back ragged curtains with our pistols. Dr. Ellicott glides past but Dean and I don't notice. We sees a tuft of something poking out of the corner of a closed cupboard and moves closer. We open the door to find a mummified corpse and flinch back from the smell, gagging.

"Oh, that's just gross." Dean says

"Really gross." I say.

Dean and I salt the body. "Soak it up." Dean says.

Dean drops the salt container and grabs a small tin of kerosene, squirting the body. In the background his torch flicker, unnoticed. A gurney comes flying across the room and knocks him to the ground. Dr. Ellicott grabs our faces and his hands light up.

"Don't be afraid. I'm going to help you. I'm going to make you all better." Ellicott says.

Dean and I struggle to reach his bag with one hand, Dean finds his lighter, flicks it on and tosses it at the mummified body. Dr. Ellicott lets go of us as his remains start to burn. Dean and I crawl out of the way and watches as Dr. Ellicott's ghost turns black and falls to the ground, crumbling on impact.

Sam wakes up and Lore has a headache and Dean and I look over at Sam as he flexes his jaw painfully. And at Lore as she clutches her head, trying to fight the whole dang time.

"You're not going to try and kill me, are ya?" Dean asks Sam.

Sam raises his hand to push at his jaw. "No." Sam says

"Good. Because that would be awkward." De says and I smack the back of his head.

Outside Asylum

"Thanks, guys." Kat tells us.

"Yeah. Thanks." Gavin says.

"No more haunted asylums, okay?" Dean says.

They watch Gavin and Kat walk toward their car, then turn to the Impala.

"Hey, Dean?" Sam asks.

Dean turns to look at him.

"I'm sorry, man. I said some awful things back there." Sam tells De.

"You remember all that?" Dean asks Sam.

"Yeah. It's like I couldn't control it. But I didn't mean it, any of it." Sam tells Dean.

"You didn't, huh?" Dean asks.

"No, of course not! Do we need to talk about this?" Sam asks Dean.

Dean is moving to get in the Impala. "No. I'm not really in the sharing and caring kinda mood. I just wanna get some sleep." Dean says.

Inside the Motel Room

Lore POV

I can see Dean, asleep in bed, as I read my book.

Dean's phone rings.

"Dean." Sam tries to wake Dean.

Dean doesn't move. Frowning, Sam grabs Dean's phone from the end table and checks the number, then flips it open.

"Hello." Sam answers.

He listens, then sits straight up in bed.

"Dad?" Sam asks and that gets my attention.
