Disclaimer: I don't approve of er underage sex or anything like that. I just have it to where they were raised with Dean fricking Winchester. And it is said in an episode I believe that he was active at 14 sooo... moving on. They originally wanted to say see you later to their baby bros/nephew/nieces. Now they're 17... and hormonal. I am also trying to be realistic because right now they feel emotions... oh and if it's a big if there's a surprise then that's my problem to deal with. Flames and all.
Burkittsville, Indiana – One Year Ago
Third Person POV
April 15, 2005
A married couple, Holly and Vince Parker are leaving a café, which is next to a gas station. With them is an older couple, Harley and Stacy Jorgeson, and their teenage niece, Emily.
"And before you leave, one of our apple pies."Stacy tells Holly. She hands Holly a box. "On the house." Stacy tells Holly.
"Oh, my God, thank you so much!" Holly tells Stacy.
"You're welcome." Stacy says.
"Hey, we should get lost more often. I mean, everyone in this town is so nice." Holly tells Vince.
"Yeah, what's the catch?" Vince asks.
"You're all set." Harley tells Vince.
"Thanks." Vince says. They shake hands. Emily notices an intricate tattoo on Vince's arm.
"That's a cool tattoo." Emily says.
"Thanks." Vince says.
"So, let's get you back to the interstate." Harley tells Vince.
"Yeah, please." Vince says.
"Take Laskey straight out of town." Harley tells Vince.
"And then you're gonna turn right on Orchard Road." Stacy tells them.
"Ok. Thank you." Vince tells wave goodbye and the couple drives away.
The town orchard
The couple's car breaks down.
"What happened?" Holly asks.
"I don't know. Car just died." Vince says. He takes his cell phone out of his pocket. "Cell phone, too." Vince tells his wife.
"How is that possible?" Holly asks. They get out of the car and look around the orchard.
"Come on, looks like a house over there." Vince tells his wife. He starts walking away.
"No, I'm not going down there." Holly tells Vince.
"Holly, we need help, we can't just wait here." Vince tells Holly.
"Ok." Holly says very reluctantly as she follows Vince.)
Another part of the orchard
Holly and Vince stop by a scarecrow raised on a wooden post. They exchange a look and walk closer to it.
"Check it out. If I only had a brain…" Vince says.
"We wouldn't be lost." Holly tells Vince.
"Thanks. That has got to be the freakiest damn scarecrow I've ever seen." Vince tells Holly.
"It scares me." Holly tells Vince. They start walking away, but Holly sees the scarecrow's head move. She gasps. "Please, let's just hurry, okay?" Holly asks Vince. They start walking away. A few seconds later, they hear a rustling in the trees and turn around. No one is there.
"Did you hear that?" Vince asks Holly. Holly nods. "Hello? Who's there?" Vince calls out. Nobody responds. They start running through the orchard. A minute later, Holly turns to Vince, and he is gone. She stops.
"Vince? Vince?" Holly calls out. She starts running in the opposite direction to try and find Vince. She trips and falls on the ground. She turns her head and sees Vince's mutilated body on the ground. She screams and sees the scarecrow towering over her. She continues to scream while Holly's pov now shows the scarecrow's now empty post.

Inside Dean's car
Sam POV
"Alright, so, the names Dad gave us, they're all couples?" I ask Dean, noting the twins absence.
"Three different couples. All went missing." Dean tells me.
"And they're all from different towns? Different states?" I ask Dean.
"That's right. You got Washington, New York, Colorado. Each couple took a road trip cross-country. None of them arrived at their destination, and none of them were ever heard from again." Dean tells me.
"Well, it's a big country, Dean. They could've disappeared anywhere." I tell Dean.
"Yeah, could've. But each one's route took 'em to the same part of Indiana. Always on the second week of April. One year after another after another." Dean tells me.
"This is the second week of April." I tell Dean.
"Yep." Dean says.
"So, Dad is sending us to Indiana to go hunting for something before another couple vanishes?" I ask Dean.
"Yahtzee. Can you imagine putting together a pattern like this? All the different obits Dad had to go through? The man's a master." Dean tells me. I look annoyed, pulls over to the side of the road and turns off the car. "What are you doing?" Dean asks me.
"We're not going to Indiana." I tell Dean.
"We're not?" Dean asks me.
"No. We're going to California. Dad called from a payphone. Sacramento area code." I tell Dean.
"Sam." Dean says.
"Dean, if this demon killed Mom and Jess, and Dad's closing in, we've gotta be there. We've gotta help." I tell Dean.
"Dad doesn't want our help." Dean tells me.
"I don't care." I tell Dean.
"He's given us an order." Dean tells me.
"I don't care. We don't always have to do what he says." I tell Dean firmly.
"Sam, Dad is asking us to work jobs, to save lives, it's important." Dean tells me.
"Alright, I understand, believe me, I understand. But I'm talking one week here, man, to get answers. To get revenge." I tell Dean.
"Alright, look, I know how you feel." Dean tells me.
"Do you?" I ask Dean. Dean seems shocked at my tone. "How old were you when Mom died? Four? Jess died six months ago. How the hell would you know how I feel?" I ask Dean.
"Dad said it wasn't safe. For any of us. I mean, he obviously knows something that we don't, so if he says to stay away, we stay away." Dean tells me.
"I don't understand the blind faith you have in the man. I mean, it's like you don't even question him." I tell Dean.
"Yeah, it's called being a good son!" Dean says, angry. I'm angry and I get out of the car. Dean also gets out and watches me unloading things from the trunk. "You're a selfish bastard, you know that? You just do whatever you want. Don't care what anybody thinks." Dean tells me.
"That's what you really think?" I ask Dean.
"Yes, it is." Dean tells me.
"Well, then this selfish bastard is going to California." I tell Dean. I put on my backpack and start walking away.
"Come on, you're not serious." Dean says.
"I am serious." I tell Dean.
"It's the middle of the night! Hey, I'm taking off, I will leave your ass, you hear me?" Dean says. I stop walking and turn around.
"That's what I want you to do." I tell Dean. We stare at each other for a few seconds, waiting.
"Goodbye, Sam." Dean tells me. He closes the trunk, gets in the car, and drives away. I watch him leave, then I start to walk away.
Dean POV
Burkittsville, Indiana
I pull over to the side of the road and pulls out my cell phone. I select the names "Sam Mobile", "Lei Mobile.", "Lore Mobile." and think about calling Sam, Laila, or Lorelai. I change my mind and close my cell phone, then shut off the car and get out.
Outside Scotty's Café
April 8, 2006
Dean POV
Scotty is sitting in a chair on the porch. I walk up to him.
"Let me guess." I say, gesturing to the sign.I point to Scotty "Scotty." I say. Scotty looks at the sign.
"Yep." Scotty says.
"Hi, my name's John Bonham." I tell him.
"Isn't that the drummer for Led Zeppelin?" Scotty asks me.
"Wow. Good. Classic rock fan." I say, taken aback.
"What can I do for you, John?" Scotty asks. I take two pieces of paper out of my pocket. They are Missing Person flyers for Holly and Vince Parker.
"I was wondering if, uh, you'd seen these people by chance." I ask Scotty. Scotty looks at the flyers.
"Nope. Who are they?" Scotty asks me.
"Friends of mine. They went missing about a year ago. They passed through somewhere around here, and I've already asked around Scottsburg and Salem—"I tell him.
"Sorry." Scotty says. He hands the flyers back to me. "We don't get many strangers around here. " he tells me. I nod.
"Scotty, you've got a smile that lights up a room, anybody ever tell you that?" I tell Scotty. Scotty stares at me strangely. I chuckle. "Never mind. See you around." I tell Scotty. I walk away.
Bobby Singer's House
Lore POV
Laila and I have snuck to Bobby's house. One, to see the kids and two, to see our boyfriends. Maybe oh and finally see Bobby's love interest.
Razi sees us climbing up the vines and lets us in. Harry and Laila go to his room.
Seven hours have passed and we have to get back on to the road. Four hours of that was spent with the babies.
Laila and I kiss Harry and Razi and climb down and go to our motorcycles where we meet Bobby's gaze and gulp. He gives us the keys to our cars and he tells us that he's taking our motorcycles for a month as punishment for what we did.
We hang our heads and leave in the cars.
Highway
Sam POV
I am standing on the side of the road. I turn around and see a young girl with short blonde hair, Meg, sitting with her back to me. She is listening to music.
"Hey." I tell Meg. She can't hear me. I walk over to her and put my hand on her shoulder. She jumps and takes off her headphones.
"You scared the hell outta me." Meg tells me.
"I'm sorry. I just thought you might need some help." I tell Meg.
"No, I'm good, thanks." Meg tells me.
"Uh, so where you headed?" I ask.
"No offense, but no way I'm telling you." she says.
"Why not?" I ask Meg.
"You could be some kind of freak. I mean, you are hitchhiking." She tells me.
"Well, so are you." I tell Meg. Meg laughs. A van honks its horn and pulls over.
"Need a ride?" The van driver asks.
"Yeah." We both say.
"Just her. I ain't takin' you." The van driver tells me. Meg gathers her things and gets in the van.
"You trust shady van guy and not me?" I ask Meg.
"Definitely." Meg tells me. They drive away.
Jorgeson General Store, Burkittsville, Indiana
Dean POV
"You sure they didn't stop for gas or something?" I ask. Harley shows the pictures to Stacy. Stacy shakes her head.
"Nope, don't remember 'em. You said they were friends of yours?" Harley asks me.
"That's right." I say. Emily comes downstairs carrying some boxes.
"Did the guy have a tattoo?" Emily asks.
"Yes, he did." I tell her. Emily puts the boxes on the counter and looks at the picture of Vince.
"You remember? They were just married." Emily tells her aunt and uncle.
"You're right. They did stop for gas. Weren't here more than ten minutes." Harley says "suddenly remembering."
"You remember anything else?" I ask.
"I told 'em how to get back to the Interstate. They left town." Harley tells me.
"Could you point me in that same direction?" I ask.
"Sure." Harley says.
Inside Dean's car
I am driving by the orchard when I hear a noise coming from the backseat. "What the hell?" I ask. I pull over and reach into my bag. I pull out the EMF meter, which is beeping frantically.
Orchard
I am walking around and see the scarecrow on its post. I walk over to it and look at it for a second.)
"Dude, you're really ugly." I tell the scarecrow. The scarecrow doesn't move. I notice a sickle in the scarecrow's hand and a design on its arm. I take a ladder from a nearby tree and climbs to the top so that I am eye level with the scarecrow. He moves its clothing and recognizes the design from Vince's tattoo. He pulls out Vince's flyer and compares the designs, which are exactly the same. He looks at the scarecrow again. "Nice tat." I tell the scarecrow.
Burkittsville gas station
Laila POV
Dean pulls up in his car and gets out. Emily is standing by the gas pumps.
"You're back." Emily tells Dean.
"Never left." Dean tells Emily.
"Still looking for your friends?" Emily asks Dean. Dean nods.
"You mind fillin' her up there, Emily?" Dean asks Emily, noticing her nameplate necklace. She grabs a pump and starts filling up Dean's tank. "So, you grew up here?" Dean asks Emily.
"Can we get gas in our tanks too miss?" Lore and I ask.
Dean looks our way with a stern look and stern tone.
"Lorelai Freyja Winchester! Laila Melek Winchester! You are so grounded for two months!" Dean tells us.
"I came here when I was thirteen. I lost my parents. Car accident. My aunt and uncle took me in." Emily tells us.
"They're nice people." Dean tells Emily.
"Everybody's nice here." Emily tells us.
"So, what, it's the, uh, perfect little town?" Dean asks her.
"Well, you know, it's the boonies. But I love it. I mean, the towns around us, people are losing their homes, their farms. But here, it's almost like we're blessed." Emily tells us. Dean, Lore, and I nod.
"Hey, you been out to the orchard? You seen that scarecrow?" Dean asks Emily.
"Yeah, it creeps me out." Emily tells Dean. Dean laughs.
"Whose is it?" Dean asks Emily.
"I don't know. It's just always been there." Emily tells us.
"That your aunt and uncle's?" Dean asks, nodding towards a red van parked by the garage.
"Customer. Had some car troubles." Emily tells us.
"It's not a couple, is it? A guy and a girl?" Dean asks. Emily nods.
"Mmhmm." Emily says. Dean, Lore, and I look concerned.
Bus Station
Sam POV
I am talking to the clerk.
"Sorry, the Sacramento bus doesn't run again till tomorrow." the clerk tells me. She checks the schedule. "Uh, 5:05 PM." The clerk says.
"Tomorrow? There's got to be another way." I tell the clerk.
"Well, there is. Buy a car." the clerk tells me. I'm annoyed and I leave the ticket window. I take out my PalmPilot and selects Dean's phone number.
Meg is sitting on the floor with her bags. "Hey." Meg says. I look at her, confused, and turn off my PalmPilot without calling Dean.
"Hey." I tell her.
"You again." Meg tells me.
"What happened to your ride?" I ask her.
"You were right. That guy was shady. He was all hands." Meg tells me. I raise my eyebrows. "I cut him loose." Meg tells me. I look around, disappointed. "What's the matter?" Meg asks me.
"Just trying to get to California." I tell her.
"No way." She says surprised.
"Yeah." I tell her.
"Me too." She tells me. She stands up and walks toward me. "You know, the next bus isn't until tomorrow." She tells me.
"Yeah. Yeah, that's the problem." I tell her.
"Why? What's in Cali that's so important?" She asks me.
"Just something I've been looking for. For a long time." I tell her.
"Well, then I'm sure it can wait one more day, right?" She asks. I laugh. Meg extends her hand and I shake it. "I'm Meg." Meg tells me.
"Sam." I tell Meg.
Inside Scotty's Café
April 14, 2006
Lore POV
Scotty is serving the couple whose car broke down. He puts two plates of apple pie in front of them.
"We're famous for our apples. So, you gotta try this pie." Scotty tells the couple.
"Oh, no. It—please." The woman says.
"It's on the house." Scotty says. Dean, Laila and I walk in.
"Oh, hey, Scotty. Can I get a coffee, black? And a coke and root beer too?" Dean asks. Scotty walks away to get it. "Oh, and some of that pie, too, while you're at it." Dean says as Laila starts to paint. He sits at a table next to the couple. "How ya doin'?" Dean asks the couple. The couple waves and smiles. "Just passing through?" Dean asks.
"Road trip." The woman says.
"Hm. Yeah, me and my sisters too." Dean tells them. They nod. Scotty walks over to refill their cider.
"I'm sure these people want to eat in peace." Scotty says.
"Hey Scotty, get that stick out of your rear end." I tell him.
"Just a little friendly conversation." Dean tells him. Scotty walks away. "Oh, and that coffee, root beer, and coke, too, man. Thanks." Dean says. Scotty looks agitated. Dean keeps talking to the couple. "So, what brings you to town?" Dean asks the couple.
"We just stopped for gas. And, uh, the guy at the gas station saved our lives." The woman tells us.
"Can I at least get blueberry pie?" I ask innocently.
"Or pumpkin pie?" Laila asks.
"Is that right?" Dean asks the couple, ignoring the couple.
"Yeah, one of our brake lines was leaking. We had no idea. He was fixing it for us." The male tells us.
"Nice people." Dean tells the couple, concerned.
"Yeah." The male says.
"So, how long till you're up and runnin'?" Dean asks them.
"Sundown." The man says.
"Really." Dean says. He thinks about it for a minute. "To fix a brake line?" Dean asks. I shake my head to give him an excuse. The man nods. "I mean, you know, I know a thing or two about cars. I could probably have you up and running in about an hour. I wouldn't charge you anything." Dean says, wanting to spout his knowledge of cars.
"You know, thanks a lot, but I think we'd rather have a mechanic do it." The woman says.
"Brother, I know you go to school for mechanics, but it's not the time to get practice to see if you can pass the final exam." I tell Dean.
"Sure. I know." Dean tells the woman. He pauses and glares at me. "You know, it's just that these roads. They're not real safe at night." Dean tells them and I groan. The couple exchange a look.
"I'm sorry?" The woman asks.
"I know it sounds strange, but, uh—you might be in danger." Dean tells the couple.
"Look, we're trying to eat. Okay?" The man says, annoyed.
"Yeah." Dean says. He looks disappointed. The couple seems worried by Dean. "You know, my brother could give you this puppy dog look, and you'd just buy right into it." Dean tells the couple. The bell above the café door jingles and someone walks in. Scotty comes out from a back room.
"Thanks for coming, Sheriff." Scotty tells the Sheriff. Dean, Laila, and I look nervous and frustrated. Scotty whispers something in the sheriff's ear, and they both look at Dean, who looks away. The sheriff walks over to us.
"I'd like a word, please." The sheriff tells us.
"Come on. I'm having a bad day already." Dean tells the sheriff.
"You know what would make it worse?" The sheriff asks. Dean nods slowly.
Interstate
The sheriff's car is following Dean's, Laila's and my car to make sure Dean, Laila, and I leave. When he is gone, the sheriff turns around and drives back to Burkittsville.
Bus Station
Sam POV
Meg and I are sitting at a table with beers and different foods around them.
"So, what, are you on some kind of vacation or something?" I ask Meg. Meg laughs.
"Yeah, right. It's all sipping Cristal poolside for me." Meg jokes. We laugh. "No. I had to get away from my family." Meg tells me.
"Why?" I ask Meg.
"I love my parents. And they wanted what's best for me. They just didn't care if I wanted it. I was supposed to be smart. But not smart enough to scare away a husband." Meg tells me. I smile. "It's just…because my family said so, I was supposed to sit there and do what I was told. So I just went on my own way instead." Meg tells me. I stare at her. "I'm sorry. The things you say to people you hardly know." Meg tells me.
"No, no, it's okay. I know how you feel. Remember that brother I mentioned before, that I was road-tripping with?" I tell her. Meg nods. "It's, uh, it's kind of the same deal." I tell her.
"And that's why you're not riding with him anymore?" Meg asks me. I shake my head. Meg raises her beer bottle. "Here's to us. The food might be bad, and the beds might be hard. But at least we're living our own lives. And nobody else's." Meg says. I tap my bottle against hers and we both drink.
Interstate, Night
Laila POV
Dean, Lore, and I are driving back to Burkittsville.
Orchard
The couple's car has broken down and they are walking through the orchard.
"I can't believe it. We just got the car fixed." The woman says.
"This way." The man says. They start walking towards a clearing. The scarecrow moves quickly behind them. The woman gasps and they turn around.
"Steve?" The woman asks. They hear more noises.
"Who's there?" Steve asks. They look around and the scarecrow comes out from behind the trees. It begins walking towards them, and they start running away. They are almost at the clearing when Dean, Lore, and I run in front of them. They stop.
"Get back to your car." Dean tells the couple. The couple looks behind them and sees the scarecrow getting closer. "Go! Go!" We tell them. The couple runs away. Dean cocks his gun and shoots the scarecrow while Lorelai throws knives at the scarecrow, which stumbles but keeps walking. I shoot arrows at the scarecrow. He stumbles but he stays up. Dean, Lore, and I begin running, Dean cocks his gun again, and shoots. Again, the scarecrow keeps going. Dean, Lore and I try with the gun, knives, and arrows one more time, but the scarecrow keeps moving. Dean, Lore and I keep running. "Go! Go!" We tell them. Finally, Dean, Lore, and I and the couple reach the clearing. Dean cocks his gun and looks around, but the scarecrow has disappeared.
"What—what the hell was that?" Steve asks, panting.
"Don't ask." Dean tells him.
Bus Station, Middle of the night
Sam POV
Meg is sleeping on the floor. I am sitting by my bags, on the phone with Dean.
"The scarecrow climbed off its cross?" I ask Dean.
"Yeah, I'm tellin' ya. Burkittsville, Indiana. Fun Town. Oh and Laila and Lore had snuck off to Bobby's. They returned." Dean tells me
"It didn't kill the couple, did it? And tell them they are grounded." I tell Dean.
"No. I can't cope without you, you know." Dean tells me.
"So, something must be animating it. A spirit." I tell Dean.
"No, it's more than a spirit. It's a god. A Pagan god, anyway." Dean tells me.
"What makes you say that?" I ask.
"The annual cycle of its killings? And the fact that the victims are always a man and a woman. Like some kind of fertility right. And you should see the locals. The way they treated this couple. Fattenin' 'em up like a Christmas turkey." Dean tells me.
"The last meal. Given to sacrificial victims." I say.
"Yeah, I'm thinking a ritual sacrifice to appease some Pagan god."Dean says.
"So, a god possesses the scarecrow..." I say.
"And the scarecrow takes its sacrifice. And for another year, the crops won't wilt, and disease won't spread." Dean tells me.
"Do you know which god you're dealing with?" I ask Dean.
"No, not yet." Dean tells me.
"Well, you figure out what it is, you can figure out a way to kill it." I tell Dean.
"I know. I'm actually on my way to a local community college. I've got an appointment with a professor. You know, since I don't have my trusty sidekick geek boy to do all the research." Dean tells me. I laugh.
"You know, if you're hinting you need my help, just ask." I tell Dean.
"I'm not hinting anything. Actually, uh—I want you to know….I mean, don't think…." Dean tells me.
"Yeah. I'm sorry, too." Dean tells me.
"Sam. You were right. You gotta do your own thing. You gotta live your own life." Dean tells me.
"Are you serious?" I ask Dean.
"You've always known what you want. And you go after it. You stand up to Dad. And you always have. Hell, I wish I—anyway….I admire that about you. I'm proud of you, Sammy." Dean tells me.
"I don't even know what to say." I tell Dean.
"Say you'll take care of yourself." Dean tells me.
"I will." I tell Dean.
"Call me when you find Dad." Dean tells me.
"OK. Bye, Dean." I tell Dean sadly. We hang up. Meg wakes up and moves next to me.
"Who was that?" Meg asks me.
"My brother." I tell her.
"What'd he say?" Meg asks me.
"Goodbye." I tell her. We exchange a look.
Community College, Day
April 15, 2006
Lorelai POV
Dean is with the college professor.
"It's not every day I get a research question on Pagan ideology." The professor tells us.
"Yeah, well, call it a hobby." Dean says.
"A weird one, but a hobby all the same." I tell the professor.
"But you said you were interested in local lore?" The professor tells us.
"Mmhmm." Dean says.
"I'm afraid Indiana isn't really known for its Pagan worship." The professor tells us.
"Well, what if it was imported? You know, like the Pilgrims brought their religion over. Wasn't a lot of this area settled by immigrants?" Dean asks.
"Well, yeah." The professor says.
"Like that town near here, Burkittsville. Where are their ancestors from?" Dean asks.
"Uh, northern Europe, I believe, Scandinavia." The professor says.
"What could you tell me about those Pagan gods?" Dean asks.
"Well, there are hundreds of Norse gods and goddesses." The professor tells us.
"I'm actually looking for one. Might live in an orchard." Dean tells the professor.
College classroom
The professor puts a large book down on a table and opens it.
"Woods god, hm? Well, let's see." The professor says. He leafs through some pages. On one page, Dean notices a picture of a scarecrow on a post surrounded by farmers in a field.
"Wait, wait, wait. What's that one?" We ask
"Oh, that's not a woods god, per se." the professor says.
"The V-Vanir?" Dean reads. The professor nods. "The Vanir were Norse gods of protection and prosperity, keeping the local settlements safe from harm. Some villages built effigies of the Vanir in their fields. Other villages practiced human sacrifice. One male, and one female." Dean reads. and points to the picture. "Kind of looks like a scarecrow, huh?" Dean asks.
"I suppose." The professor says.
"This particular Vanir that's energy sprung from the sacred tree?" Dean reads.
"Well, Pagans believed all sorts of things were infused with magic." The professor tells us.
"So what would happen if the sacred tree was torched? You think it'd kill the god?" Dean asks.
"Son, these are just legends we're discussing." The professor says, laughing.
"Oh, of course. Yeah, you're right. Listen, thank you very much." Dean tells the professor. He shakes the professor's hand.
"Glad I could help." The professor says. Dean walks to the classroom door. When he opens it, the sheriff hits him on the head with the end of his rifle and points it at me and Laila. Dean falls to the ground, and the sheriff and the professor exchange a knowing look.
Streets of Burkittsville
Third Person POV
Stacy, Harley, Scotty, and the sheriff are standing in the rain, upset.
"You don't understand, Harley. All of us here—It's our responsibility to protect the town." Scotty tells Harley.
"I understand. Better than all of you. I'm the one that gives 'em directions. I'm the one that sends 'em down to the orchard." Harley tells the others.
"Harley, please." The sheriff says.
"We all close our doors. Look the other way. Pretend we can't hear the screams. But this is different, this—this is murder." Harley tells the others.
"It's angry with us. Already the trees are beginning to die. Tonight's the seventh night of the cycle. Our last chance." Stacy says.
"If the boy has to die, the boy has to die. But why does it have to be her? Why didn't it choose one of the twins?" Harley asks. They say nothing, but stare at the ground, disappointed.
Cellar
Laila POV
Dean is with Lore and I in a cell. Suddenly, the cellar door opens, and Emily is there, being held by her aunt and uncle. She is crying.
"Aunt Stacy. Uncle Harley, please." Emily says. They bring her down the stairs, next to Dean and go back upstairs. "Why are you doing this?" Emily asks.
"For the common good." Stacy tells Emily. She shuts the cellar door and Dean, Emily, Lore, and I are left in the dark.
Bus station
Sam POV
Meg is gathering her things. I am trying to call Dean on his cell phone.
"Hey. Our bus came in." Meg tells me. I hang up the phone, shaking my head.
"You better catch it. I gotta go." I tell Meg. I put on my backpack.
"Go where?" Meg asks.
"Burkittsville."I tell her.
"Sam, wait." Meg tells me.
"I've been trying to call my brother for the last three hours. I'm just getting his voicemail. I can't even get in touch with my sisters." I tell her.
"Well, maybe their phones are turned off." She tells me.
"No, that's not like them. Meg, I think they might be in trouble." I tell her.
"What kind of trouble?" Meg asks.
"I can't really explain right now. I'm sorry, look, I don't want you to miss your bus." I tell her.
"But I don't understand. You're running back to your brother? The guy you ran away from? Why, because he won't pick up his phone? Sam—come with me to California." Meg tells me.
"I can't. I'm sorry." I tell her.
"Why not?" Meg asks.
"He's my family." I tell her. I leave. Meg watches him go, close to tears.
Cellar
Laila POV
Dean, Lore, and I are trying to open the cellar door, but we fail.
"I don't understand. They're gonna kill us?" Emily asks.
"Sacrifice us. Which is, I don't know, classier, I guess?" Dean says. He walks over to her. "You really didn't know anything about this, did you?" Dean asks Emily.
"About what? The scarecrow god? I can't believe this." Emily says.
"Well, you better start believing, cause I'm gonna need your help." Dean tells Emily.
"Okay." Emily says.
"Now, we can destroy the scarecrow, but we gotta find the tree." Dean tells her.
"What tree?" Emily asks.
"Maybe you can help me with that. It would be really old. The locals would treat it with a lot of respect, you know, like it was sacred." Dean tells Emily.
"There was this one apple tree. The immigrants brought it over with them. They call it the First Tree." Emily tells Dean.
"Is it in the orchard?" Dean asks.
"Yeah, but I don't know where." Emily says. The cellar door opens, and the four elders are standing there.
"It's time." Stacy tells us, going to make Lorelai and I watch. Dean, Emily, Lore, and I look at each other, nervous.
Orchard
The elders are tying Dean and Emily to two adjacent trees as Lore, and I cry.
"How many people have you killed, Sheriff? How much blood is on your hands?" Dean asks the sheriff.
"We don't kill them." The sheriff tells Dean.
"No, but you sure cover up after. I mean, how many cars have you hidden, clothes have you buried?" Dean asks. The sheriff walks away.
"Uncle Harley, please." Emily begs.
"I am so sorry, Em. I wish it wasn't you." Harley tells Emily.
"Try to understand. It's our responsibility. And there's just no other choice. There's nobody else but you." Stacy tells her.
"I'm your family." Emily tells Stacy.
"Sweetheart, that's what sacrifice means. Giving up something you love for the greater good. The town needs to be safe. The good of the many outweighs the good of the one." Stacy tells Emily. The four elders walk away, leaving me and Lore tied up to witness the scarecrow murdering my brother and Emily.
"I hope your apple pie is freakin' worth it!" Dean yells at them.
"So, what's the plan?" Emily asks.
"I'm workin' on it." Dean tells Emily.
Orchard, Hours later
"You don't have a plan, do you?" Emily asks Dean.
"I'm workin' on it. Can you see?" Dean says, slightly panicked.
"What?" Emily asks.
"Is he moving yet?" Dean asks.
"He better not be!" I tell Dean.
"I can't see." Emily says. A shadow is seen moving near the trees. "Oh my God." Emily says. As it moves closer, Dean tries to untie his ropes. "Oh my God!" Emily says. Sam comes out from behind the trees.
"Dean? Laila? Lorelai?" Sam asks.
"Oh! Oh, I take everything back I said. I'm so happy to see you. Come on." Dean tells Sam, overjoyed. Sam begins untying Dean from the tree. "How'd you get here?" Dean asks Sam.
"I, uh—I stole a car." Sam tells us.
"Haha! That's my boy! And keep an eye on that scarecrow. He could come alive any minute." Dean tells Sam.
"What scarecrow?" Sam asks. Dean gets up and sees the scarecrow's post is empty. He, Sam, Lore and I exchange a nervous look.
Orchard
Sam, Dean, Emily, Lore, and I are running.
"Alright, now, this sacred tree you're talking about—" Sam says.
"It's the source of its power." Dean tells Sam.
"So, let's find it and burn it." Sam tells Dean.
"Nah, in the morning. Let's just shag ass before Leather Face catches up." Dean says. The five of us reach a clearing. Waiting for us are the elders and a few other townspeople. "This way." Dean says. We turn around but we are blocked in all directions.
"Please. Let us go." Emily says.
"It'll be over quickly, I promise." Harley tells his niece.
"Please." Emily says.
"Emily, you have to let him take you. You have to—" Harley starts to say. All of a sudden, the scarecrow sticks his sickle through Harley's stomach. Emily and Stacy scream, then Stacy is captured by the scarecrow, too. Emily runs into Dean's arms while her aunt and uncle are dragged away by the scarecrow. The rest of the townspeople run away in fright.
"Come on, let's go." Dean tells us. Sam, Dean, Emily, Lore and I start running. They hear a noise and turn around, but the scarecrow and its victims have disappeared. The three of them stay there and look around.
Orchard, Morning.
Sam, Dean, Emily, Lore, and I walk to the sacred tree with gasoline and a lighter. The tree is marked with Vince's tattoo design. Sam goes to the tree and pours the gasoline on it. Dean picks up a long branch and lights it.
"Let me." Emily says. She takes the branch from Dean.
"You know, the whole town's gonna die." Dean tells Emily.
"Good." Emily says. She throws the burning branch onto the tree, and the three of them watch it go up in flames.
Bus Stop
Emily is getting on a bus to Boston. She smiles at Dean, who waves to her. She waves back and takes a seat. Dean and Sam watch the bus leave.)
"Think she's gonna be alright?" Sam asks us.
"I hope so." Dean tells Sam.
"And the rest of the townspeople, they'll just get away with it?" Sam asks.
"Well, what'll happen to the town will have to be punishment enough." Dean tells Sam. We start walking to our cars. "So, can I drop you off somewhere?" Dean asks Sam.
"No, I think you're stuck with me." Sam tells Dean. We stop at the cars.
"What made you change your mind?" Dean asks.
"I didn't. I still wanna find Dad. And you're still a pain in the ass." Sam tells Dean. Dean nods. "But Jess and Mom—they're both gone. Dad is God knows where. You and me. We're all that's left. So, if we're gonna see this through, we're gonna do it together." Sam tells Dean. Dean pauses.
"Hold me, Sam. That was beautiful." Dean tells Sam. He puts his hand on Sam's shoulder, who hits it away. We all laugh.
"You should be kissing my ass, you were dead meat, dude." Sam tells De.
"Yeah, right. I had a plan; I'd have gotten out." Dean tells Sam.
"Right." Sam says. We smile and get in the cars.
Highway.
Another shady guy is giving Meg a ride.
"So, where to, pretty lady?" the van driver asks.
"How about you pull over?" Meg asks.
The van driver looks at her. "Okay. That works." He speaks. He pulls over. Meg reaches into her bag and pulls out a silver bowl. "What's that?" He asks.
"I've got to make a call." Meg tells the van driver. She reaches into the bowl to get something.
"I've got a cell phone you could use." He tells her.
"It's not that kind of call." Meg tells him. She pulls out a knife and slits the van driver's throat. She holds the bowl under his neck and lets his blood pour into it. "Thanks for the ride." She begins stirring the blood in the bowl with her finger. "Tire quiero patem me a di." Meg says. The blood swirls around and a silver orb appears in the middle of the liquid. "It makes no sense. I could've stopped Sam. Hell; I could've taken them both. Why let them go?" Meg asks. She pauses. "Yes." Meg says. She pauses again. "Yes." Meg says. She pauses one more time. "Yes, Father." Meg tells her father.
