Kai and Ethan had now made their way into the forest that was located at the base of the mountain. The path leading through the forest would take them directly to Cherrygrove city, bringing Kai closer to completing the job that had been given to him by Professor Elm.

"Man, I sure am hungry after all that battling," Ethan said, feeling his stomach rumble.

Kai had to agree, seeing how that hadn't eaten since the morning.

"Yeah, it's getting late anyhow, so how about we stop and set up camp for the evening," Kai suggested, seeing that it was already 5 pm.

"Sounds good to me!" Ethan yelled, throwing his backpack off before Kai could even say another word.

"Leave it to me and Cyndaquil to get a fire going!" Ethan yelled, running off to find some firewood, leaving Kai to set up the tents.

Kai nodded, seeing that Ethan was the one with the fire Pokemon afterall.

With that Kai took both his and Ethan's tents from the bags, setting them up next to each other. Once that was done Kai called out Sandshrew to dig a small pit for the fire, making sure it was safe and wouldn't spread to the tents.

"There, all set," Kai said, clapping the dirt off his hands as he looked over the small camp he had built single-handedly with pride.

Speaking of, Kai couldn't help but wonder where Ethan had gotten to, seeing that it had been a while now.

Surely he didn't get lost... Kai wondered, looking around in the direction he had run off in.

"Yo, Ethan you there!" Kai yelled, hearing nothing in return.

Kai looked to his Sandshrew who looked back at him, getting a bad feeling about this whole thing.

"Hmm... Where could he have gotten to." Kai said, not sure what to do about it.

"Ah, that's it." He suddenly said, realising he had his Snubbull.

"Come on out Snubbull," Kai said, releasing the Pokemon.

"Snub!" The pink bulldog said, happy to see its trainer.

"Alright, Snubbull. I need you to sniff out Ethan for me, think you can do it?" Kai asked, showing his Snubbull Ethan's bag.

"Snub." Snubbull nodded, taking a couple of sniffs of Ethan's bag before it got the scent.

"Looks like he's got something," Kai said, seeing Snubbull start moving in the direction he could smell Ethan in.

"Sandshrew, you stay here with the camp and make sure no one steals our stuff!" Kai yelled, quickly running off with his Snubbull, leaving Sandshrew alone to guard the camp.

Snubbull ran through the forest as it sniffed the ground, keeping track of Ethan's scent, followed closely by Kai.

"Ethan!" Kai yelled, trying to see if he could hear him, still getting nothing for the moment.

"Snub!" Snubbull suddenly said, stopping for a moment as it looked up at a large tree.

"What is it Snubbull?" Kai asked, looking at the tree himself, trying to see what was bother Snubbull.

Suddenly the tree morphed and formed a face on its trunk, scaring the hell out of Kai and Snubbull alike.

"What the hell is that!" Kai yelled out, trying not to jump out of his skin.

"Arghh!"

Kai snapped out of his fear hearing the yell come from the distance, knowing that it was Ethan.

"Come on Snubbull, this way!" Kai yelled, quickly making a break for it to get away from the monster tree and head towards the direction of the scream.

However, the tree's terrifying face appeared before Kai, stopping him and Snubbill in their tracks as it appeared all around them in a circle.

"What's going on?" Kai asked, feeling the fear set into his chest.

"Snubbb!" Snubbull yelled, acting brave as it dived at the ghost tree face to attack it, only passing through it before landing back onto the ground.

"It didn't work..." Kai said, trying to take a deep breath so he could calm down for a second and assess the situation.

"It's like an afterimage, but it looks real..." Kai said watching Snubbull try to attack again, only to fail once more.

Like a ghost... Kai thought, seeing the images appearing all over, feeling the word click in his mind once he said it.

"Ghost! It's a ghost Pokemon!" Kai yelled, clocking on to what was going on.

"Snubbull it's not real!" Kai yelled, trying to get Snubbull to listen.

"Look out!" Ethan yelled, taking Kai by surprise as he ran toward him through the woods, heading right for him with his arms extended.

"Look out!"

Ethan crashed into Kai, hitting him hard enough that they both fell to the ground before they rolled around holding onto each other.

"Don't let it get me!" Ethan yelled, clearly scared out of his mind.

"Calm down, it's not real!" Kai yelled, pushing Ethan off of him before slapping him around the face, snapping him out of it.

Ethan's face went blank for a second before he stood up, taking a look around to see what was going on.

"What happened?" He asked.

"What do you mean what happened, you went to get some firewood and got lost," Kai said, slowly getting back up himself, dusting himself off as he did.

"Wait... I did." Ethan said, remembering that he had indeed done that.

"I think you got confused," Kai said, looking around to see if he could see anything out of the ordinary.

Ethan took a moment trying to remember what had happened, scratching his head for a minuet before Kai watched the light bulb shine above his head.

"That's right... I heard a strange voice and the next thing I knew I was getting chased by this horrible monster." Ethan said, shivering at the memory of the thing.

"I think there are ghost Pokemon in this forest, and I think they used confusion on us." kai said, remembering seeing something like this happening in the anime one time, knowing that ghost Pokemon could also disappear when they wanted to.

"Ghost Pokemon?" Ethan asked, not liking that one bit, seeming to shiver at the thought of it.

"Oh, man... We will never get out of this place if we can't counter them." Ethan said.

"How do we do that?" Kai asked, not knowing the answer.

"Well, we need a Pokemon that can learn the move foresight, allowing us to break through the ghost types advantage and get rid of their illusions," Ethan said, explaining what needed to be done.

"Great, where are we going to find a Pokemon like that?" Kai asked, knowing there was a slim chance they would be getting out of this place easily.

"Hoot."

"Hoot."

"Hey, did you hear that?" Kai said, hearing the chirping of a bird as he looked around.

Ethan jumped a little, being on his toes as he was scared still.

"Calm down and help me look." Kai said.

Ethan took breath before he did the same, scanning the area as they both heard the sound again.

"Over there!" Ethan said, pointing to one of the tree beaches above them.

"It's a Hoothoot!" Ethan said, pulling out his Pokedex to scan it.

"Hoothoot, the small owl Pokemon. It likes to stand on one leg at all times. This Pokemon can also sense time, hooting at the same time every day." The Pokedex said.

"This is perfect, Hoothoot can learn the move foresight!" Ethan yelled, seeming to know a lot about it.

"How do you know that?" Kai asked.

"What, didn't you go to school?" Ethan asked.

"Well yeah, but I just can't remember what moves every Polemon learns," Kai said.

"Well, luckily for us, I remember that Hoothoot can. And I'm going to catch it!" Ethan yelled, throwing his Cyndaquil's Pokeball.

"Lets do it Cyndaquil!" Ethan shouted, getting the Hoothoot's attention.

"Cyndaquil use ember and knock it out of that tree!" Ethan yelled.

"Quil" Cyndaquil yelled, shooting a small blast of fire, taking the Hoothoot by surprise as it connected, blasting it out of the tree and onto the ground.

"Alright, we did it, now use quick attack!" Ethan said, getting his Cyndaquil to slam into Hoothoot, knocking it back again as it cried out in pain.

"That should do it, go, Pokeball!" Ethan yelled, throwing a Pokeball at the Pokemon, watching as it hit the Hoothoot, bursting open and sucking it in.

The Pokeball rolled to one side and the back to the other before it dinged, signalling that the capture was successful.

"We did it!" Ethan yelled, running over to the Pokeball as he picked it up.

"Wow, Ethan you made that look super easy." Kai said impressed.

Suddenly creepy noises started to form in the darkness of the trees, alerting both Kai and Ethan to it.

"Oh no, its back!" Ethan yelled, seeing the monster take shape as it walked out of the trees toward them, causing both of their bodies to freeze in fear.

"Use the Hoothoot!" kai yelled, also feeling his body freeze from the fear, trying to take control of his body back.

Ethan did his best to move his hand, dropping the Pokeball onto the ground as it opened, revealing the Hoothoot he had just captured.

"H-Hoothoot use foresight!" He yelled, watching as the small bird's eyes started to glow before it scanned the area around them.

Both Kai and Ethan felt the strain on their bodies lessen as the illusions also vanished.

"Hey look, it's a Haunter!" Ethan yelled, pointing towards one of the trees.

"And Gastly too!" Kai said, seeing that there were more of them.

"I'll teach you to scare me!" Ethan yelled.

Cyndaquil, use ember!" Ethan shouted.

"Quil!" Cyndaquil roared as it blasted the Haunter with its flame attack.

"Come on Snubbull we can't let them get away with this either, use bite!" Kai said, getting his Snubbull to unleash its powerful jaws on some of the Gastly, doing a lot of damage as it was super effective.

Both the Haunter and Gastly were quick to flee, not liking their odds now that they couldn't hide thanks to the Hoothoot's foresight.

"Yeah, you better run!" Ethan shouted watching as the Pokemon fled.

"Kai was also happy to see them go, glad to know that the illusions had been put to a stop too.

"Maybe we can finally get that fire going and eat in peace now." Kai said, seeing that Ethan had calmed down.

"Oh boy, those things really give me the creeps. If it wasn't for this little Hoothoot here, we would have been done for." Ethan said, patting his new Pokemon on the head in praise.

"Hoot." The small bird Pokemon said, happy to be of help before Ethan returned it to its Pokeball.

"Just one thing Kai. How the hell are we supposed to find our way back to camp..." Ethan said, seeing nothing but trees all around them and having no idea where to go.

"Leave that to Snubbull here," Kai said, flashing him a smile.

"Snubbull!" Snubbull said, nodding its head in confidence before it started sniffing around, picking up the trail.

The group finally returned to their camp, thanks to snubbulls sense of smell having led the way.

"Shrew!" Sandshrew yelled happy to see Kai return as it dived into his arms.

"good to see you too, Sandshrew," Kai said, spinning his Pokemon around.

"Wow, nice job Kai," Ethan said, seeing the camp he had set up for them.

"All we need now is that fire," Kai said, putting his Sandshrew down.

"We're on it, go Cyndaquil get that fire going!"

That's the end of this chapter!
