27. Confession

He felt it the moment Maguro opened her eyes. The power he has been bestowed upon birth lifted, even for just a while under her Nullifying powers. It felt much lighter and brings him a sense of peace.

No anxiousness, no fear of cursing other people.

Just…quiet.

But, to what extent?

As far as he understands his family's technique, the Snake and Fang seal is also known as the Words of Gods. No one in his family has ever had the privilege to meet up with someone like Maguro, who has the power to Nullify. In fact, this power was so rare that the last Nullifier was born almost 300 years ago.

She is the first person alive in this era that he had ever heard of who possesses the Nullifying power.

And he is grateful he chanced upon meeting her by fate.

But yes…to what extent indeed?

"I…" Inumaki started, torn between wanting to be cautious and wanting her to know desperately. His heart pounded in his chest as he contemplated on how to start. "I-I…Maguro…I…" he stuttered, hands clenching tight on either side of her on the bed as she sits on it. He gritted his teeth and chided himself at chickening out.

No.

Not that.

He's not chickening out. He's just too… restrained.

For 17 years of his life, he had had countless accidents where he accidentally cursed someone when he speaks. He could not help it. Accidents do happen, and it made him feel an immense guilt sinking his heart down to the bottom of the dark ocean where he couldn't breathe no matter how many times the people around him tells him it's alright.

To him, it was never alright.

Hence the onigiri ingredient terms.

He couldn't bear it if he accidentally curses someone, more so to the people close to him. His family, his baby sister and brothers at home, his friends, and teachers.

And her.

He was most afraid of tying her down onto something she wasn't willing. Not that she wasn't willing right now, with her reciprocating his feelings earlier. But he was most afraid of the long-term effect his spells will hold onto her.

No one knows how far the Words of Gods holds onto something that is not a physical command.

And again, they never bothered to experiment her powers. He didn't know just how long his spells could have a hold on her. And they didn't know if she could Nullify them now, or after the spells sets in. Could she even do that? Nullify a spell that is already casted out? Back then when she first joined the school and fell into the water, she could not Nullify his command.

But that was back then.

Months have passed since then. Maguro's powers has expanded into an entirely different terms as compared to before the school started. She could flex her powers in ways Gojo-sensei would scream with pom poms at the side-line in excitement whenever she did something new. Though her stamina could still barely catch up to the extent of the powers she has in store, her Nullifying powers has evolved to the point that it doesn't even require her to use an ounce of her stamina.

It will be as easy as breathing for her to Nullify curses now.

He was most afraid… what if… what if she is okay with him right now, but as time goes by, she changed her mind or something. What if they could not stay together for long? What if she doesn't want him anymore? What if-

A soft touch on his cheeks breaks his train of thoughts. He looked up and found Maguro smiling at him gently.

Oh, I must have thought those out loud, he thought quietly this time.

Leaning in, Maguro gently caresses Inumaki on both his ears and cheeks and kisses him softly in between his brows.

It was so mesmerising that momentarily, it had him stunned to the point that he could no longer think of anything else but her smiling face right now.

It was as if she calmed him down just by the simple act of looking at him.

"I like you, Maguro," Inumaki said in a daze, enamoured by how she has suddenly become the most perfect and beautiful in his eyes in the short timeframe she is here with them. "I really like you. So much. Do you… feel the same towards me?"

The Curse from Inumaki's words didn't get cast out. Instead, it appears as normally as if he was speaking… normally. He felt a sudden burden lifted from his chest. He knew what that was; it was his yearning. He had wanted to speak normally for once in his life, and he couldn't because he was born with the Snake and Fang mark.

And for once, because of Maguro, he could speak without fear.

At first, he just wanted to treasure this kind person. But overtime, as various events pulled them together and of course, Maki and Panda's endless teasing about his favourite Tuna ingredient in onigiri, he gradually found himself thinking about her more often than he like.

Then, it changed to wanting to see her every day and thought about her all the time.

Was this what they say about love?

Was this even love?

He was someone who couldn't speak out normally due to his family's cursed seal. She was someone who can Nullify all curses and spells if she so wishes to.

He was not sure at first and ignored his pounding heart whenever Maguro is near him, but when he looked at Maguro for real right in front of him now, he knew that he liked her more than friends.

Fate placed them together in this time and this school. Fate brings them together to meet up there at the river and sealed it with an underwater kiss. Fate brought her powers to this world in this era, where he and Maguro are alive at the same time.

Where she could Nullify him whenever he wanted so he wouldn't be forever burdened with his Cursed Techniques.

Where he wouldn't always need to watch his words.

Inumaki smiled at his quiet thought.

They were destined to collide.

Maguro didn't say anything. Or rather, she just lifts his hand and places it nonchalantly on her chest.

And pressed his hand into her soft breasts.

Almost instantly, Inumaki flushes red from neck to ears when he felt the soft mounds of Maguro's breasts.

"When…when you said you liked me, Inumaki-kun, my heart beats fast, just like this, if you can feel it. I'm nervous, yet happy, and ecstatic that you liked me back the way I do you, Inumaki-kun," Maguro said in a sweet, shy voice, lowering her face down to hide her blush, but occasionally her eyes darted up to look at him. When she found he's still looking at her, she bites her lips and replied, "I like you too. Really, really like you. And I'm really, really happy you like me too."

Inumaki's heart beats fast. He smiled. Looks like they have fallen for each other the same time.

Mirroring her, Inumaki grabbed her hand and places it on his chest where his heart beats fast and hard for her. Covering her hand on his chest, he smiled at her and said, "Let's go on a date, Maguro."

Maguro nodded her head happily, smiling widely at him.

"But," she started. Inumaki waited. "I've been wanting to do this for a while now, but it's a little embarrassing because I'm so spineless back then. Can we…well…since we're sort of official now…"

"What is it?" Inumaki asked. He felt a bit weird that he could now speak a normal language, but relaxed when Maguro held his hand in her small ones. It assured him that with her here, he can speak as much as he wants to. Rubbing his thumb on the back of her hand, he leaned into her face and asked again, "Anything else, Maguro-chan?"

Maguro nodded with a shy smile. "Yes," she answered. Then looked up into his eyes. "Can we k-kiss, T-Toge- kun?"

Inumaki was stunned. This marks the first time she had called him by his name.

With two fingers, he tilted her chin up towards his and leaned in, pressing his lips onto hers.

No more hesitation, and no more doubts.
