Melissa nervously went on the staircase and sat on the stool. Headmistress McGonagall placed the hat on her head.

"Ah!" Melissa was a little scared as the Hat said loudly, "Ah, I see, I see a sharp mind, and I see kindness..."

She realized that only she could hear the hat speaking.

"So I also see a shy girl, waiting for an opportunity to be a great person, good heart and good work. So where shall I put you?"

The Sorting hat was taking long. The other first years were staring at her. And suddenly, she noticed that Professor McGonagall's stern face broke in to a warm smile. Melissa felt a panic attack coming up, maybe she wasn't fit for this school, That's why the hat wasn't choosing anything. Her hair changed from blonde to deep red.

After almost what seemed like an eternity to Melissa, the sorting Hat spoke again.

"It's not Slytherin, It's not Ravenclaw, Certainly a feel of Hufflepuff, but not quite." The Hat said in a sing song voice. Melissa felt as if the hat was mocking her.

"Better be, Gryffindor!"

The Sorting hat took almost five minutes to decide Melissa Dudley's fate. A roar of clap rose from the Gryffindor table, she might have not known what was meant by the long gap of the sorting hat, but many others did. Or maybe some recognized it from McGonagall's face, as she clapped as well.

Melissa joined the Red and Golden flag table, as James called her out. She sighed in relief. She wasn't going home, she belonged here, Lily made place for her, and scooched over.

"Congratulations!" James and other Weasley-Potter-Granger cousins congratulated her. She smiled and sighed. It was like she came Home. Her hair turned from black to back to blonde. Blonde was her happy color.

"Oh my God!" A boy pointed to her, and said. "Her hair color changed."

"I'm not weird!" She suddenly said to the boy as she shrank back. He nodded apologetically, as Lily whispered in her ear,

"No one thinks Metamorphmagus is a freak, Mel!" She told her. "Actually, quite the opposite!"

She smiled nervously.

"I'm sorry,"

Melissa was glad that she had Lily were in the same dormitory. She sat on her bed, and took out her mobile phone from her the pocket inside her robes. As teh mobile chimed, she saw a message appeared on the screen.

"What's that?" Lily asked curiously. "What is ...it?" She stared at the gadget in her cousins hands.

"It's a phone.." She slowly answered, as the other two girls in the dorm gathered around her, and looked at it curiously.
