The Girl Who Loved
chapter two: jealousy begins
I forget to mention that this will be in the movie verse, with some aspects of the books, but limited.
it took me waaaay too long to write the 2nd chapter as soon as I would go to write, I had to end up stopping. I'm glad to have finally gotten it together.
The train ride to school was depressing. Harry, Ron, and Hermione kept talking about what had happened after the tournament. I couldn't tell them what Draco had told me, and I hadn't seen or heard from him since. I was anxious to say the least. Draco knew something was afoot and it only made me wonder what else could be going on. His father has caused so drama already. and what about the other Slytherin's and their parents?
I thought about returning home and just going back to regular muggle school, but then i'd have to deal with my parents. I also don't think i'd feel right leaving Harry when all this uncertainty was surrounding us at the moment. It really wouldn't be me if I was to back down and go take the easy route. Harry must have sensed my uneasy attitude. He bought me some of my favorite sweets. He seemed so keen on getting up and buying. I could hear the giggles from outside the door. must be someone he fancied.
I nodded my thanks and took the sugar quills and fudge. Some times it did pay off to have a famous relation, and that his parents left him money. Any time we are back home in the muggle world I was the one to get almost anything he needed, since my parents were often dickheads. Harry in return almost always got me whatever I wanted here in the wizard world. We had each others back always. last year I did start a little side business at school. Of course it had to be on the hush.
If there was one thing I was good at, it was charms. I was the self proclaimed 'Charm Queen.' I could charm my way through just about anything. Now everything else at school was just a toss up. Potions were probably the worst for me. I think just about every class period, it has ended up in me blowing everything up. Then of course, Snape comes and takes 5 points from Gryffindor. I think everyone dreaded being in class with me. I shivered at the thought of blowing up more potions this year.
The train had arrived, and we were all shuffled quickly to the school. As we were arriving, a huge carriage with flying horses came thundering down. It was a sight to see. I wanted to go straight over so I could pet them. It was enchanting. To our other side, a grand ship emerged from the waters down below. It was majestic with a huge bird symbol on its main sail.
"What in the world is going on around here," I mumbled.
"From the looks of it, I'm sure it's something important," Hermione piped up from behind me. "I never seen anything like this here before."
"Every year it's something different, isn't it." It was more of a statement that meant something to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. They knew what I was getting at. I could feel that this year was going to be a disaster already.
We settled into the Great Hall, the way we did every year. As were waiting for the new students to get situated and sorted into their respectable houses. That's when I finally saw the git. He was at the Slytherin table surrounded with his usual suspects. I felt a light prick in my heart as I saw Pansy sitting next to him. I guess he had not found the time to distance himself from her. Which was fine I suppose. Ugh, why was I fighting with the green eyed monster of jealously right now?
I don't get jealous. I looked for my actual crush, Anthony Goldstein. He was tall, blonde, with a strong looking face. If you didn't know him, you'd probably think he was much older. He is in my year, but a Ravenclaw. So obviously super smart, unlike Draco. I sneered and looked at the center of the table, while Harry and everyone talked around me. I should have sat with my back facing the Slytherin table.
"Speak of the Devil," I whispered to myself. Anthony was calling my name, as he came walking down the lane of tables. Perfect. He and a couple of more students came strolling in. Late I might add, but before Dumbledore has walked in. So they would be getting a pass.
"How was your break? I kind of missed our…" he paused looking for the right word. "Debates." He had a cheeky adorable grin plastered on his face. I beamed.
"Is that what you call arguments? A debate." My face got a little red at the fact he came over to chat before going to sit at his own table. Which was great since Ravenclaw and Slytherins sat right by each other.
"Either way." He gave a small laugh. "Looking forward to starting them up again, Des." Dumbledore finally came walking through the main door for all the staff. He looked like he was concentrating real hard. Probably getting ready to really step up the pep talks for the school year.
"Better go sit down. I'll catch up." I nodded a little hard.
"Bye!" My eyes followed him to his table, but ended up locking eyes with Draco. My smile fell a little and I looked away. The twat. Not even going to acknowledge him at the moment. I looked over at Harry who shot me a look.
"What!" It came out a little too sharp. He nodded in the direction that Anthony had left in.
"It's nothing." He was opening his mouth, but Dumbledore's voice boomed through the Great Hall. We all waited to hear what he had to say for the start of the year and what could possibly be going on with what we saw with the carriage and ship.
"Now that we are all settled in and sorted, I'd like to make an announcement." It seemed like we all scooted a little closer to hear what was coming out of his mouth.
"This castle will not only be your home this year but home to some very special guests as well. Hogwarts has been chosen…" Filch, our very grouchy caretaker came running, well more like a limp run in towards Dumbledore. All of us looked around confused and whispered amongst ourselves. I looked at Hermione and she gave me a confused shrug. Filch ran back out after whispering to our Headmaster.
"Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event. The Tri-Wizard tournament." Excited whispers and quiet chats filled each table. What exactly was this tournament about? Dumbledore went on to explain about three schools competing. So I guess that's what the mysterious carriage and ship was about. They were from the other schools.
"These contests are not for the faint-hearted." I gave a small gulp. Back in the muggle world, school tournaments were at most dangerous only if you were to sprain an ankle or tear a muscle or if you ate too much. I can only imagine what kind of contests would be held here on school grounds. If they were that bad, you'd think they'd be somewhere else entirely and not for us at school.
Just then the doors burst open and a group of girls dressed in gorgeous blue school uniforms came floating in. Their movements were so smooth and fluid. The Beauxbatons Academy of magic. Must be French. They danced down the row releasing butterflies. I was most excited, but of course I was the type to be easily impressed. They were all so pretty and well put together. Hermione, Ginny, and a couple of the other girls looked down at their hands. Probably embarrassed. I beamed at them. Now that seems like a fun school to go to.
Their headmistress, Madam Maxime, came walking down. She was, to say the least, huge. Like tall in a Hagrid way. To be honest, I think she was taller than Hagrid.
"Blimey, that's one big woman," I heard Seamus say. I couldn't agree more. But she was very elegant and seemed fabulous. They finished their dance set and stood waiting in the corner as another group, this time a group of boys came in strong and stern.
"Our friends from the north… proud sons of Durmstrang and their high master, Igor Karkaroff. I snickered to myself that someone would name their kid Igor. He definitely grew up to his name. He looked mean and someone you would definitely not want to run into the dark.
"Blimey it's him, Viktor Krum." Ron practically fell out of his seat. After their Bo staff and fire routine, I wondered about how fierce competitors they would be. Hell, even professor McGonagall looked like the cat had her tongue. And nothing that I knew of ever rattled her.
This was going to be one strange year. How was all of us going to go to classes at the same time and attend these competitions, while also worried about what was going on outside of school. I was sure this wouldn't be the last attack of those people in those horrible masks.
After the dinner and all the chaos from the explanation that only 17 year olds and up could enter, which I thought was great, we all shuffled out of the Great Hall and towards our dorms. It was late and we all had to get up early, like every first day of the school year, to make sure we would all know where we would be going for classes. This year, the fourth years had a jam packed schedule, and I wasn't here for it. Especially since I had to take muggle studies. You'd think I knew enough. It was one of the last classes available. Should be easy enough.
I heard a faint whisper behind me. I couldn't tell where the voice was coming from or who it belonged to.
"Hey, PJ." I rolled my eyes as I came to a full stop. Harry gave me a 'what the hell look.'
"I forgot something on the table, and I forgot to tell one of the professors something. I'll be right up, Harry."
"Okay. Just make it quick. See you up there." I made sure he was walking away before I back tracked. A strong hand pulled me into a corner that was being occupied by one of the many statues in the castle.
"Long time no see," I said with a thick layer of sarcasm. Draco rolled his eyes.
"Just making sure you're alright." I scoffed.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be. Oh, unless you mean after the big scary wizards in masks." Mocking him was too easy. I pretended to quake in fear.
"Well I gave you a heads up, didn't I?" His eyes almost became cross as he snapped.
"Yeah, and we're all very grateful," I continued in my mocking tone. "Doesn't help when I can't really tell anyone and why and how I could come up with the conclusion that something may or may not go down."
"You know, reasonable people would show that they're actually grateful." Draco looked at me tight lipped.
"You know I'm anything but reasonable. Look, I'm sorry. Thank you. Really." It was hard to stay mad at him. I had to check myself real quick. There really wasn't any reason for me to be mad at him. In retrospect.
"Thank you," he said, looking satisfied. "Now what order are your classes in?"
"It's pretty much the same as last year, except I got saddled with muggle studies." Draco let out an exaggerated sigh.
"Same." I raised an eyebrow at him. "I also didn't have a choice, so don't look at me like that."
"So you don't want to know anything about me," I teased him.
"You. Not your little muggle pals."
"You know. Maybe if you opened your mind a little you'd be a little less…tense. You need to loosen up a bit." I wiggled my fingers in front of his face and in turn I had to do a weird little dance. He pushed my fingers away and let out a snort.
"Already losing your mind aye, PJ?"
"You know I have to have my random moments to survive this place. Anyway, better head up before a search team comes after me."
"See you in class." We lingered a little longer. I wanted to ask him about Pansy, but I didn't want to feel silly or stupid. Which wasn't like me. I usually spoke my mind. That's where a good chunk of our house points got taken away. He looked like he wanted say something as well, but just shoved his hands in his pockets and blew air out his mouth.
"See you in class," I spoke slowly and gave him a small smile. He mirrored my facial expression and with that we parted ways. I felt his eyes on me as I practically ran up the stairs to go die in my bed out of pure embarrassment.
