Super Shadow 2018: Yeah, lol. 11 and 10 are like, arch enemies and besties at the same time. And with how everyone treated Martha was so wrong, but I feel like her character just wasn't written very well. And didn't 10 take Martha to the past a lot? Like, of course people will be racist.

Anyways, new chapter! This is my favorite episode from 9's season, so I hope this chapter is especially good. It's also so going to be very long, at the time I'm writing this, I've written over 5K words, and that doesn't include the transcript. I'll probably hit at least 15k(in total), because there will be al ittle therapy at the end of the chapter. I would have done a seperate chapter, but I'm way too lazy for that, so you're getting it at the end of this one. I'll try and make it short, but no promises.

Disclaimer: Dark themes. If you get triggered by mentions of being suicidal or by torture, I would suggest skipping this a few parts of the chapter, or skipping the entire thing. I will place markers around where things may trigger you.

"Dude, how the hell do you fall out of your chair when sitting completely still?" Jack looked incredulously at the scene in front of him. 11 was sprawled on the with everyone but 9 and River laughing loudly at his misfortune, them choosing instead to try and look concerned, though it was obviously not working.

"Oi! I'll have you know when I was brought here I had just barely finished the regeneration process!" 11 leapt up to defend himself.

"We've been here for like, 5 hours."

"This is disrespectful. I don't have to deal with this. I can just go." 11 looked very smug after saying that.

"Actually, you aren't allowed to leave until I say so." Zachariah's voice boomed across the room.

11 folded his arms across his chest and sat in his chair, and he was most definitely not pouting.

"Hey, are you sure you should be sitting down? You might fall again." 10 taunted, laughing as his older regeneration threw an apple at him. "Thanks, I love apples!"

11's expression morphed into disgust.

[Museum]

(The Tardis materialises in dimly lit area with carpeting and display cases.)
ROSE: So what is it? What's wrong?
DOCTOR: Don't know. Some kind of signal drawing the Tardis off course.

"Oh... This is... Not a good adventure." 10 grimaced at the reminder of what had happened.

"Why, what happened? Did Rose get hurt?" 9 looked at 10 and 11 with a worried expression.

"Not exactly. This... Will not be good on dignity." 11 smiled, in the crazy way he did when something bad was about to happen.

ROSE: Where are we?
DOCTOR: Earth. Utah, North America. About half a mile underground.
ROSE: And when are we?
DOCTOR: Two thousand and twelve.
(He looks at a display case.)
ROSE: God, that's so close. So I should be twenty six.

"That-that's not how age works when you travel." River was slightly perturbed at the thought of getting older and younger depending on what point in time you were at.

"Well, it kind of is. I mean, I'm 19, so in that year I would meet my 26 year old self." Rose reasoned.

"Also, no. Paradox."

"Well, without the paradox part."

"Also no." 11 blurted out.

"What?" Rose asked. "Did I die."

"Forget I said anything. You did it once already."

"What?"

"Uhm..."

(The Doctor finds the light switch, and things become more clear.)
ROSE: Blimey. It's a great big museum.
DOCTOR: An alien museum. Someone's got a hobby. They must have spent a fortune on this. Chunks of meteorite, moon dust. That's the milometer from the Roswell spaceship.
ROSE: That's a bit of Slitheen! That's a Slitheen's arm. It's been stuffed.
DOCTOR: Oh, look at you.
ROSE: What is it?
(The head of a Cyberman.)

"It's a robot!" Donna realized.

"Technically it's a Cyberman. It's sort of like a robot, but inside the metal casing is shredded human parts and a human brain that doesn't have the capacity for emotions. They're kind of like a hive mind. They mainly kill humans for parts, but they have other enemies, too." 10 explained to the know horrified humans.

"That's sick." Donna muttered, suppressing the urge to puke.

"Who created the Cybermen?" Jack was intrigued, he always wanted to learn about different aliens.

"Another human, probably. Cybermen have always been around, it's weird."

DOCTOR: An old friend of mine. Well, enemy. The stuff of nightmares reduced to an exhibit. I'm getting old.
ROSE: Is that where the signal's coming from?
DOCTOR: No, it's stone dead. The signal's alive. Something's reaching out, calling for help.
(The Doctor touches the display case and an alarm goes off. Armed guards rush in from all sides and cut them off from the Tardis.)
ROSE: If someone's collecting aliens, that makes you Exhibit A.

10 and 11 cringed. 9 just looked confused, but by the reactions from his future selves, he figured that he was going to get hurt somehow.

[Corridor]

TANNOY: Attention all personnel. Bad Wolf One descending. Bad Wolf One descending.

"What's with Bad Wolf? This is the second time it's been mentioned in some sort of way." Amy looked over at 10, figuring that 9 wouldn't know and that 11-well, 11 was 11.

"Spoilers."

River smirked, she couldn't wait until 11 appeared on the large screen.

(A helicopter has landed. Four armed guards line the corridor as a man and his aides stride out of a doorway.)
POLKOWSKI: On behalf of all of us, I want to wish you a very happy birthday, sir. And the President called to convey his personal best wishes.
VAN STATTEN: The President is ten points down. I want him replaced.

"What the-"

"No, shush. He's funny. Sometimes. Be quiet." 11 cut Amy off.

Amy huffed in annoyance.

POLKOWSKI: I don't think that's very wise, sir.
VAN STATTEN: Thank you so much for your opinion. You're fired. Get rid of him.
POLKOWSKI: What?
(An armed guard drags Polkowski away.)
VAN STATTEN: Wipe his memory, put him on the road someplace. Memphis, Minneapolis. Somewhere beginning with M.
(A woman runs up to take Polkowski's place.)
VAN STATTEN: So, the next President. What do you think? Republican or Democrat?

"How can he just-just do that with no empathy?" Amy asked, appalled.

"He's powerful. Anyone with power can do, well, anything." Rory answered hesitantly, looking aver at the Doctors.

"Well put, Rory!" 11 smiled.

GODDARD: Democrat, sir.
VAN STATTEN: For what reason?
GODDARD: They're just so funny, sir?
(Van Statten stops.)
VAN STATTEN: What is your name?
GODDARD: Goddard, sir. Diana Goddard.
VAN STATTEN: I like you, Diana Goddard. So, where's the English kid?
ADAM: Sir! Sir! I bought ten more artefacts at auction, Mister Van Statten.
VAN STATTEN: Bring 'em on, let me see 'em.
GODDARD: Sir, with respect, there's something more urgent. We arrested two intruders fifty three floors down. We don't know how they got in.
VAN STATTEN: I'll tell you how they got in. In-tru-da window. In-tru-da window. That was funny!
(Obedient laughter.)

"He's powerful and disrespectful. I hate him." Jack looked at the screen in anger.

"He's a bad person, doing what bad people do." 10 responded.

11 frowned slightly. But we are bad people. Why is he pretending that we aren't?

VAN STATTEN: Bring 'em in. Let's see 'em. And tell Simmons I want to visit my little pet. Get to it!

"Let me guess, it's an alien and it sent the signal." Mickey was tense, he knew that this episode wasn't going to be a simple rescue mission.

"And that won't even be the worst part, huh?" Martha guessed.

10 and 11 didn't respond.

(Van Statten goes through a doorway. Goddard steps aside to use her headset.)
GODDARD: Simmons? You'd better give me good news. Is it talking?

[Cage]

(Something with blue vision is watching a man wearing a protective suit wielding a chainsaw on itself.)
SIMMONS: Not exactly talking, no.

[Corridor]

GODDARD: Then what's it doing?

[Cage]

SIMMONS: Screaming. Is that any good?

"No-"

"Yes." 11 snapped harshly, interrupting his younger regeneration.

9 looked surprised, but realization dawned on him. "Is it-"

10 nodded quickly before he could finish.

[Office]

(Adam is showing his boss the latest purchases.)
ADAM: And this is the last. Paid eight hundred thousand dollars for it.
(The Doctor, Rose and Goddard enter.)
VAN STATTEN: What does it do?
ADAM: Well, you see the tubes on the side? It must be to channel something. I think maybe fuel.
DOCTOR: I really wouldn't hold it like that.
GODDARD: Shut it.

"Rude." Rose muttered.

DOCTOR: Really, though, that's wrong.
ADAM: Is it dangerous?
DOCTOR: No, it just looks silly.
(The Doctor reaches for the item, and firing bolts click all around him. Van Stratton hands him the curved, palm sized object.)
DOCTOR: You just need to be
(The Doctor strokes the artefact and it makes a note.)
DOCTOR: Delicate.

River thought for a second and grinned. "I have one of those!" She pulled it out and played a few notes, though not as good as the Doctor.

11's face lit up. "Can I see that?"

River passed the instrument to him, and he began playing something, but it sounded foreboding and made everyone feel unsettled.

"Alright, stop it." 10 took it and gave it back to River. "This is why you can't have nice things."

"Yes, dad." 11 taunted.

"Can someone get me some wine. I'm done with these two." 9 looked hopeful at the thought of alcohol.

"Yeah, someone get mum some alcohol! You know he can't function without it." 11 grinned and 9 groaned.

"Why do I have to be the mum, but he gets to be the dad?"

"Cause he didn't ask for wine like a mum would when dealing with her fighting kids."

(He plays several different notes.)
VAN STATTEN: It's a musical instrument.
DOCTOR: And it's a long way from home.
VAN STATTEN: Here, let me.
(Van Statten's touch is harsher. Not nice sounds are produced.)
DOCTOR: I did say delicate. It reacts to the smallest fingerprint. It needs precision.
(Van Statten finally gets the hang of it.)
DOCTOR: Very good. Quite the expert.
VAN STATTEN: As are you.
(Van Statton casually tosses it aside, onto the floor.)

No, 9 did not squeak in horror, he definitely gasped like a normal person would after seeing there favorite instrument get tossed like that.

"Did you just-"

"No."

VAN STATTEN: Who exactly are you?
DOCTOR: I'm the Doctor. And who are you?
VAN STATTEN: Like you don't know. We're hidden away with the most valuable collection of extra-terrestrial artefacts in the world, and you just stumbled in by mistake.
DOCTOR: Pretty much sums me up, yeah.
VAN STATTEN: The question is, how did you get in? Fifty three floors down, with your little cat burglar accomplice. You're quite a collector yourself, she's rather pretty.

"He deserves a smack on the head for that." Donna looked about ready to fight anyone.

"He's gonna get one if he keeps talking about me like that" Rose joined in.

"I have never supported violence so mush in my life." Rory said, earning a kiss from Amy.

The Doctors nodded. "Agreed."

"All in favor to murder for protection?" Martha asked.

Aye's were spoken around the room (some were a bit my forceful than the others).

ROSE: She's going to smack you if you keep calling her she.
VAN STATTEN: She's English too! Hey, little Lord Fauntleroy. Got you a girlfriend.
ADAM: This is Mister Henry Van Statten.
ROSE: And who's he when he's at home?
ADAM: Mister Van Statten owns the internet.
ROSE: Don't be stupid. No one owns the internet.
VAN STATTEN: And let's just keep the whole world thinking that way, right kids?
DOCTOR: So you're just about an expert in everything except the things in your museum. Anything you don't understand, you lock up.
VAN STATTEN: And you claim greater knowledge?
DOCTOR: I don't need to make claims, I know how good I am.
VAN STATTEN: And yet, I captured you. Right next to the Cage. What were you doing down there?
DOCTOR: You tell me.
VAN STATTEN: The cage contains my one living specimen.
DOCTOR: And what's that?
VAN STATTEN: Like you don't know.
DOCTOR: Show me.
VAN STATTEN: You want to see it?
ROSE: Blimey, you can smell the testosterone.

"You can smell it all the way over here, and we're just watching this like a T.V show." Martha added.

9 looked offended, but found it best not to piss anyone off by opening his mouth to try and defend himself.

VAN STATTEN: Goddard, inform the Cage we're heading down. You, English. Look after the girl. Go and canoodle or spoon or whatever it is you British do. And you, Doctor with no name, come and see my pet.

[Outside the Cage]

VAN STATTEN: We've tried everything. The creature has shielded itself but there's definite signs of life inside.
DOCTOR: Inside? Inside what?
SIMMONS: Welcome back, sir. I've had to take the power down. The Metaltron is resting.
DOCTOR: Metaltron?

"What kind of name is that? At least actual aliens make up cool names for themselves." Jack scoffed.

"Exactly. Some humans are just idiots." 10 gestured to Mickey.

"Rude."

VAN STATTEN: Thought of it myself. Good, isn't it? Although I'd much to prefer to find out it's real name.
SIMMONS: Here, you'd better put these on. (gauntlets) The last guy that touched it burst into flames.
DOCTOR: I won't touch it then.
VAN STATTEN: Go ahead, Doctor. Impress me.
(The Doctor steps through the heavy door.)
VAN STATTEN: Don't open that door until we get a result.

[Trigger warning]

Rose looked angrier than she had in a while. "You could die! And they wouldn't even open the door to save you."

"I would have regenerated." 9 shrugged.

"You would've still died!"

"What's the problem with that?" 10 asked, a confused look on his face.

"I know!" 11 jumped in. "Humans get attached to us for some unknown reason and when other humans die, people feel like, sad, so when we die they get sad! I think?"

"Yes, Doctor. You are correct. Because humans can't become new like Time Lords can." River smiled gently.

"This conversation is not over. We need to talk about how you're obviously suicidal." Amy looked at the Doctor's threateningly. River nodded in approval.

"But we aren't suicidal-"

"We'll talk later!"

[End]

(Van Statten and Goddard go to a desk with monitors on it.)

[Cage]

(It is dark inside. The door clangs shut and locks.)
DOCTOR: Look, I'm sorry about this. Mister Van Statten might think he's clever, but never mind him. I've come to help. I'm the Doctor.
(A white light blinks next to a blue glow.)
METALTRON: Doc Tor?

"What?" 9 made it sound more like a statement than a question.

"Ooh. We should have warned him." 10 grimaced.

"He'll be fine." 11 tried to keep calm, but after hearing the Dalek on screen, he had the urge to kill it. Murderous urges. Semi-new.

"I can hear you. They should be dead. All of them."

"What is it?" Rose asked innocently.

The Doctors were too busy trying to keep calm to answer.

"Don't worry, Rose. You'll have your answer." River told her.

DOCTOR: Impossible.
METALTRON: The Doctor?
(The lights come up to reveal a bad tempered pepperpot being held in chains.)
DALEK: Exterminate! Exterminate!
(The Doctor hammers on the door in terror.)
DOCTOR: Let me out!
DALEK: Exterminate!

"You're scared of it?" Martha looked shocked.

"Of course I'm scared of it. I'm trapped in a room with the one thing that could kill me with no problem and I couldn't do a thing about it." 9 responded harshly.

Everyone could feel the tension in the room rising, especially with 10 and 11 looking like they're trying to restrain 9 mentally.

[Outside the Cage]

GODDARD: Sir, it's going to kill him.
VAN STATTEN: It's talking!

[Trigger warning]

River allowed herself to become angry. This man was going to let her husband die. But River could already see herself ripping the mans body to shreds, poisoning him, stabbing him, making him scream. She could see him pleading for her to just kill him already, she could see him trying to escape, immediately dying from the loss of blood. She could see him writhing on the floor, calling out for help as she dissected him and put him back together in different ways to see if he would live. Conducting different experiments for her own satisfaction. She thought about what it would be like to bash his repeatedly into the floor.

[End]

River shook herself out of it. She wouldn't have to do those things. Yet.

[Cage]

DALEK: You are an enemy of the Daleks! You must be destroyed!
(Its gun arm twitches but nothing happens.)
DOCTOR: It's not working.
(The Doctor laughs as the Dalek looks at its impotent weapon.)
DOCTOR: Fantastic! Oh, fantastic! Powerless! Look at you. The great space dustbin. How does it feel?
DALEK: Keep back!
(The Doctor stands inches away, staring into its eyepiece.)
DOCTOR: What for? What're you going to do to me? If you can't kill, then what are you good for, Dalek? What's the point of you? You're nothing.

"That's a bit... Harsh?" Rory immediately regretted saying anything.

9 laughed loudly, a humorless laugh, though he found it genuinely funny.

"That is the kindest thing I've ever done to a Dalek."

Everyone looked concerned at this, other than the Doctors, thinking about how they should have been more sure about how many Daleks they actually killed.

[Outside the Cage]

DOCTOR [on monitor]: What the hell are you here for?
DALEK [on monitor]: I am waiting for orders.

"Hive mind?" Rose asked.

"No. It's a completely different thing." 10 answered her.

[Cage]

DOCTOR: What does that mean?
DALEK: I am a soldier. I was bred to receive orders.
DOCTOR: Well you're never going to get any. Not ever.
DALEK: I demand orders!
DOCTOR: They're never going to come! Your race is dead! You all burnt, all of you. Ten million ships on fire. The entire Dalek race wiped out in one second.

Mickey was interested by this piece of information. "Was there a war?"

"Yes." 9 snapped.

"But-but why wouldn't you want to help the species? Especially if all of them were wiped out-"

"Cause the war was between the Daleks and the Time Lords. Our two species have been battling each other since each was created. My previous regeneration fought in that war."

"But-"

"You still want me to help it? It tried to kill me. That species has tried to kill me since I started traveling. I eliminated that species in the war. I refuse to help a Dalek. No matter what."

"O-okay. Alright, Doctor." Rose was frightened of how the Doctor was acting, and chose not to protest any longer. Mickey placed a hand on her shoulder.

DALEK: You lie!
DOCTOR: I watched it happen. I made it happen.
DALEK: You destroyed us?
DOCTOR: I had no choice.
DALEK: And what of the Time Lords?
DOCTOR: Dead. They burnt with you. The end of the last great Time War. Everyone lost.

"Did you do that, too? Did you kill your species-family-in order to kill the Daleks and end the war?" Jack hoped he was wrong.

"It was the only way. Trillions dead. That's what happens in war."

"Don't you regret it? You won the war, but at what price?"

"I didn't win. No one won. It just ended. I, and apparently that Dalek, are the only survivors."

DALEK: And the coward survived.
DOCTOR: Oh, and I caught your little signal. Help me. Poor little thing. But there's no one else coming 'cause there's no one else left.
DALEK: I am alone in the universe.
DOCTOR: Yep.
DALEK: So are you. We are the same.

"How dare-"

"Calm down." 11 sent a sharp look to 9.

How can you tell me to calm down? That Dalek just said that we are like it.

I know. But I think you will be very satisfied with what happens to it.

He's not lying. I know I was happy with it.

We are literally you.

Shush.

DOCTOR: We're not the same! I'm not (pause) No, wait. Maybe we are. You're right. Yeah, okay. You've got a point. 'Cause I know what to do. I know what should happen. I know what you deserve. Exterminate.
(The Doctor pulls a lever on a nearby console and the Dalek is lit up with electricity.)
DALEK: Have pity!
DOCTOR: Why should I? You never did.

"Oh my god!" Martha yelled.

Donna walked up to the Doctor. "How can you just do that?"

"I knew he was cracked in the head." Mickey muttered.

All 9 did in response was frown and say, "I want to hear it scream."

Amy and Rory looked over at 11, who was calmly sitting, not the slightest hint of guilt on his face. Then to 10, who looked like he was watching the best drama to exist one T.V.

River shivered in delight. She loved when the Doctor got murderous.

"I never thought the Doctor could be like this." Jack said to no one in particular.

[Outside the Cage]

VAN STATTEN: Get him out.

[Cage]

DALEK: Help me!
(Guards grab the Doctor as he goes to ramp up the voltage again.)
VAN STATTEN: I saved your life. Now talk to me. Goddamn it, talk to me!

9 rolled his eyes.

(Simmons turns off the electricity.)
DOCTOR: You've got to destroy it!
(The Doctor is dragged out.)
VAN STATTEN: The last in the universe. And now I know your name. Dalek. Speak to me, Dalek. I am Henry van Statten, now recognise me! Make it talk again, Simmons. Whatever it takes.

"Do Daleks have names?" 10 turned to look at his senior regeneration.

"Yeah, but not usually." 11 responded.

[Adam's workshop]

ADAM: Sorry about the mess. Mister Van Statten sort of lets me do my own thing, so long as I deliver the goods. What do you think that is?
(Adam gives Rose an inch think piece of metal.)
ROSE: Er, a lump of metal?
ADAM: Yeah. Yeah, but I think, well, I'm almost certain, it's from the hull of a spacecraft. The thing is, it's all true. Everything the United Nations tries to keep quiet, spacecraft, aliens, visitors to Earth. They really exist.
ROSE: That's amazing.

"I haven't met him yet, but from just watching him, he looks like a red flag, but if I have met I would pay no mind to it. He's cute."

"Agreed."

"I would go out with him if he didn't feel like a red flag."

"The Doctor is cuter."

"He is."

"Amy!"

"What?"

"He was just laughing about this poor alien being tortured. He was the one doing it!"

"And?"

"I'm your boyfriend."

"I know."

"Why'd you say that kid is cute then?"

"Cause I'd be lying if I said he were hot. That's your job."

"I- oh. O-oh. Oh! Okay, uhm. You're uh- hot as well?"

"Thank you, Rory."

ADAM: I know it sounds incredible, but I honestly believe the whole universe is just teeming with life.
ROSE: I'm gobsmacked, yeah. And you do what, sit here and catalogue it?
ADAM: Best job in the world.
ROSE: Imagine if you could get out there. Travel amongst the stars and see it for real.
ADAM: Yeah, I'd give anything. I don't think it's ever going to happen. Not in our lifetimes.
ROSE: Oh, you never know. What about all those people who say they've been inside of spaceships and things and talked to aliens?
ADAM: I think they're nutters.
ROSE: Yeah, me too. So, how'd you end up here?
ADAM: Van Statten has agents all over the world looking for geniuses to recruit.
ROSE: Oh, right. You're a genius.
ADAM: Sorry, but yeah. I can't help it. I was born clever. When I was eight, I logged onto the US Defence System. Nearly caused World War Three.

"That's who that was?" 9 was shocked.

"Apparently." 11 shrugged.

"You knew that." 10 looked at 11, confused.

"Eh, forgot."

"You- We have an eidetic memory."

"Even people with eidetic memories forget a few things sometimes. You should know that."

"Shut up."

ROSE: What, and that's funny, is it?
ADAM: Well, you should've been there just to see them running about. Fantastic!

Donna laughed. "He took your line, Doctor."

"And? You're Scottish with red hair. You don't have a line to lose." 9 responded.

"You think you're so funny-"

"I don't. I'm the least funny person here. Other than you obviously."

"Obvious? In the future you're going to go to a museum where aliens are killed or tortured. Guess what? You're an alien."

"Not very fun at parties are you? Can't go two seconds without complaint."

"I'm surprised anyone can go 5 seconds in your company."

"You annoy everyone when you talk."

"As if you don't do the same."

"Well-"

"Oh, my god, shut up! You two are never allowed to talk to each other again." Zachariah groaned. He was too tired for those two to be fighting.

ROSE: You sound like the Doctor.
ADAM: Are you and him?
ROSE: No, we're just friends.
ADAM: Good.
ROSE: Why is it good?
ADAM: It just is.
ROSE: So, wouldn't you rather be downstairs? I mean, you've got these bits of metal and stuff, but Mister Van Statten's got a living creature down there.
ADAM: Yeah. Yeah, well, I did ask, but he keeps it to himself. Although, if you're a genius, it doesn't take long to patch through on the comm. system.
ROSE: Let's have a look, then.
ADAM: It doesn't do much, the alien. It's weird. It's kind of useless. It's just like this great big pepper pot.

River found herself suppressing an amused smile at this. She took out her psychic paper and wrote a message to the Doctor, telling him that she would only call the Dalek a pepper pot from now on.

The three Doctors took out their papers simultaneously and laughed. However, 11 was the only one to respond.

'If you call it to anyone but me, I'll be very angry. I've never had an inside joke before.'

River couldn't stop her huff of laughter.

'Alright, sweetie.'

(They watch the Dalek screaming as Simmons takes a big drill to its casing.)
ROSE: It's being tortured! Where's the Doctor?
ADAM: I don't know.
ROSE: Take me down there now.

[Lift]

DOCTOR: The metal's just battle armour. The real Dalek creature's inside.
VAN STATTEN: What does it look like?
DOCTOR: A nightmare. It's a mutation. The Dalek race was genetically engineered. Every single emotion was removed except hate.
VAN STATTEN: Genetically engineered. By whom?
DOCTOR: By a genius, Van Statten. By a man who was king of his own little world. You'd like him.
GODDARD: It's been on Earth for over fifty years. Sold at a private auction, moving from one collection to another. Why would it be a threat now?
DOCTOR: Because I'm here. How did it get to Earth? Does anyone know?
GODDARD: The records say it came from the sky like a meteorite. It fell to Earth on the Ascension Islands. Burnt in its crater for three days before anybody could get near it and all that time it was screaming. It must have gone insane.
DOCTOR: It must have fallen through time. The only survivor.
GODDARD: You talked about a war?
DOCTOR: The Time War. The final battle between my people and the Dalek race.

"Bad move." Rory nervously looked at the screen.

"Yeah. I don't talk about it to people like him." 9 said, acknowledging 11's companions for the first time.

"Figured." This version of the Doctor is more intimidating than anyone ever.

VAN STATTEN: But you survived, too.
DOCTOR: Not by choice.
VAN STATTEN: This means that the Dalek isn't the only alien on Earth. Doctor, there's you. The only one of your kind in existence.

[Doctor's cage]

(So the Doctor is stripped and chained spread-eagled.)

"That's just sick, what they've done to you." Mickey clenched his fist. Even he wouldn't go so far to chain up the Doctor to learn about him.

"They're going to torture you like the Dalek!" Rose shouted in disgust.

River was more furious than ever. "I will kill him."

"Uhm... Doctor. Sorry about our argument." Donna felt herself become queasy at the thought of what would happen to the Doctor.

"I've never been more ashamed to call myself a human in front of the Doctor." Martha looked sadly at the three aliens seated in the front of the room.

Jack didn't say anything, opting instead to get up and force the Doctors in a hug, to which 9 denied, but he found it made him feel better when Jack persisted.

"Disgusting. Don't you think?" Amy asked Rory.

"Horrendous."

"Alright, stop. We've been through worse than that. Thank you, but we really don't need it." 10 felt discomfort and annoyance at the attempt at comfort they were being given.

River scoffed. "There is a reason why we're all here watching this. Now, sweetie, let us help you."

11 shook his head and smiled. "Alright, honey."

9 and 10 just rolled their eyes, but allowed themselves to be hugged by River as well.

VAN STATTEN: Now, smile!
(A painful laser scan runs down the Doctor's body.)
VAN STATTEN: Two hearts! Binary vascular system. Oh, I am so going to patent this.

"Patent it? That's your body!" Rose cried in horror.

"I'm also alien. Humans like to take ideas from aliens, and if that means using my biology, then so be it." 10 responded, slightly resigned to the fact that people would rather "patent" him than use him.

"But-but that's terrible. People would rather kill you and stuff you than actually learn anything. Doesn't it bother you?"

"I'm 905 years old. The only thing that bothers me anymore is the death of the people I care about."

"Doctor, we should talk more about this later." River, now making it clear that she planned to talk to all the Doctors about their obvious problems.

DOCTOR: So that's your secret. You don't just collect this stuff, you scavenge it.
VAN STATTEN: This technology has been falling to Earth for centuries. All it took was the right mind to use it properly. Oh, the advances I've made from alien junk. You have no idea, Doctor. Broadband? Roswell. Just last year my scientists cultivated bacteria from the Russian crater, and do you know what we found? The cure for the common cold. Kept it strictly within the laboratory of course. No need to get people excited. Why sell one cure when I can sell a thousand palliatives?

"That's just pure evil." Martha glared at the screen.

DOCTOR: Do you know what a Dalek is, Van Statten? A Dalek is honest. It does what it was born to do for the survival of its species. That creature in your dungeon is better than you.
VAN STATTEN: In that case, I will be true to myself and continue.
DOCTOR: Listen to me! That thing downstairs is going to kill every last one of us!
VAN STATTEN: Nothing can escape the Cage.
(He blasts the Doctor with the laser again.)
DOCTOR: But it's woken up. It knows I'm here. It's going to get out. Van Statten, I swear, no one on this base is safe. No one on this planet!
(Van Statten runs the laser scan again, just to hear the Doctor scream.)

"So it does hurt. And I'm not just being dramatic."

"Of course it hurt, didn't you see us squirming like that?"

"Not the worst pain we'll have felt yet."

[Outside the Cage]

BYWATER: Hold it right there.
ADAM: Level three access. Special clearance from Mister Van Statten.

[Cage]

ADAM: Don't get too close.
(The door closes behind Rose and Adam.)
ROSE: Hello. Are you in pain? My name's Rose Tyler. I've got a friend, he can help. He's called the Doctor. What's your name?
DALEK: Yes.
ROSE: What?
DALEK: I am in pain. They torture me, but still they fear me. Do you fear me?

"Deserves all the pain it gets." 11 muttered darkly.

Rose turned to glare at him. "That Dalek hasn't done a thing yet."

11 tensed, Rose was the last person he wanted to get angry at. He calmed himself down enough to not make her feel threatened by him. "That Dalek came straight from the war. Every Dalek killed hundred-maybe thousands of Time Lords. Even not in the war, that's how it's been. When I say something deserves torture or death, they deserve it."

"And what? You're the ultimate judge?" Mickey said to defend Rose.

"Of course I am. Do you know why? Because I now what I deserve as well."

ROSE: No.
DALEK: I am dying.
ROSE: No, we can help.
DALEK: I welcome death. But I am glad that before I die I have met a human who was not afraid.
ROSE: Isn't there anything I can do?
DALEK: My race is dead, and I shall die alone.
(Rose reaches for the Dalek's head.)
ADAM: Rose, no!
(A brief touch leaves a golden handprint which quickly fades. The Dalek becomes more animated.)
DALEK: Genetic material extrapolated. Initiate cellular reconstruction!

9 looked down at his hands, and clenched them into fists. "Only human."

10 and 11 looked over at him, before turning back to the screen, realizing that he was just talking to himself.

(The Dalek breaks its chains. Simmons enters.)
SIMMONS: What the hell have you done?
(He goes to the Dalek, carrying his drill. The Dalek raises its sink plunger.)
SIMMONS: What are you going to do? Sucker me to death?

"Yes."

(However did you guess? The sucker covers his nose and mouth and the Dalek creates a vacuum inside it.)

"That's probably the worst way to go." Jack shook his head.

"No, not the worst way." River smirked.

[Outside the Cage]

ROSE: It's killing him! Do something!
BYWATER: Condition red! Condition red!

[Doctor's cage]

GUARD [OC]: I repeat, this is not a drill!
DOCTOR: Release me if you want to live.

"You look terrible." Donna stated bluntly.

"Thank you." 9 almost sounded sincere.

"You're welcome."

[Office]

(The scene in the Cage is on a large wall TV.)
DOCTOR: You've got to keep it in that cell.
ROSE [on screen]: Doctor, it's all my fault.
GUARD [on screen]: I've sealed the compartment. It can't get out, that lock's got a billion combinations.
DOCTOR: A Dalek's a genius. It can calculate a thousand billion combinations in one second flat.

[Outside the Cage]

(And that is precisely what the Dalek uses its sucker to do.)

"So it kills with the plunger and it uses it as, I don't know, fingers?"

"Never anywhere would anyone call the manipulator arm on a Dalek, a plunger. I like it though. I'll call it that. Maybe." 11 replied to Jack.

"Look at that. I got the approval of one of the Doctors."

BYWATER: Open fire!

[Office]

VAN STATTEN: Don't shoot it! I want it unharmed.
DOCTOR: Rose, get out of there!

[Outside the Cage]

BYWATER: De Maggio, take the civilians and get them out alive. That is your job, got that?
(The woman guard obeys.)
DE MAGGIO: You, with me.

[Outside the Cage]

(The Dalek glides up to the wall monitor and smashes it, absorbing the electricity. It's battered armour starts to mend, turning from brown to golden.)

"Is it... Regenerating?" Martha asked, hoping to use that term correctly.

"In a manner of speaking. The Dalek is just healing itself. That's the best way to explain it." 10 said, finding it difficult not to go into full detail about what the Dalek was doing and how exactly the Dalek was able to do it.

"Oh, that makes a lot more sense."

BYWATER: Abandoning the Cage, sir.

[Office]

GODDARD: We're losing power. It's draining the base. Oh, my God. It's draining entire power supplies for the whole of Utah.
DOCTOR: It's downloading.
VAN STATTEN: Downloading what?
GODDARD: Sir, the entire West Coast has gone down.
DOCTOR: It's not just energy. That Dalek just absorbed the entire internet. It knows everything.

"Imagine having the whole internet in your mind. You'd know everything, well, everything you could cause it's only the information about the Earth." Mickey whispered in wonder.

"Your mind would explode. The human mind is not made to know that information. That's why you have different people for different specialties. A Time Lord is made to know everything, hence why we're called 'Time Lords', literally the lords of time. We figured out how time works exactly, and the only way we were able to figure that out was to know everything else." 9 explained, almost kindly, to Mickey.

[Outside the Cage]

DALEK: The Daleks survive in me!
(The Dalek uses its weapon on its surroundings.)

[Office]

GODDARD: The cameras in the vault have gone down.
DOCTOR: We've only got emergency power. It's eaten everything else. You've got to kill it now!

"The Dalek is one of the most powerful aliens ever, isn't it?" Amy asked.

11 was confused and slightly concerned, but 9 spoke again. "They are-were. Only thing that's more powerful than them is the Time Lords, but even then it's a hard bargain for who is actually the most dangerous."

GODDARD: All guards to converge in the Metaltron cage, immediately.

[Corridor]

DE MAGGIO: Civilians! Let them through!
(Rose and Adam, and de Maggio, run through the incoming phalanx of guards.)
BYWATER: Cover the north wall. Red division, maintain suppressing fire along the perimeter. Blue division argh!
(The guard dies the traditional extermination death, by turning black and white and having his skeleton exposed. The guards open fire, but the Dalek just absorbs the bullets. It kills another man. More guards come up behind it, so it swivels its eyepiece around then its middle section turns to open fire on them. Back and forward it alternates, killing someone each time.)

Rose gasped. "That's terrifying! You could see his skeleton!"

"The most terrifying way to die, I think." 11 said, though he sounded distracted.

[Office]

VAN STATTEN: Tell them to stop shooting at it.

"I want to kill him more and more the more he talks." River gripped her gun.

"Yeah, I could go for some murder right now." Donna agreed.

Jack took out his own gun and shrugged. "Yeah, might as well kill him."

"Put away your guns." 10 demanded, looking as though he wanted to be anywhere else. Which was completely accurate, he wanted to leave.

River laughed lightly. "You're no fun."

GODDARD: But it's killing them!
VAN STATTEN: They're dispensable. That Dalek is unique. I don't want a scratch on its bodywork, do you hear me? Do you hear me?
(The gunfire stops, but only because there is no one left to shoot. Goddard calls up a schematic of the base.)
GODDARD: That's us, right below the surface. That's the cage, and that's the Dalek.
DOCTOR: This museum of yours. Have you got any alien weapons?
GODDARD: Lots of them, but the trouble is the Dalek's between us and them.
VAN STATTEN: We've got to keep that thing alive. We could just seal the entire vault, trap it down there.
DOCTOR: Leaving everyone trapped with it. Rose is down there. I won't let that happen. Have you got that? It's got to go through this area. What's that?
GODDARD: Weapons testing.
DOCTOR: Give guns to the technicians, the lawyers, anyone. Everyone. Only then have you got a chance of killing it.

"The only time I will ever permit gunfire, mind you." 9 said before anyone could call him a hypocrite.

[Staircase]

ROSE: Stairs! That's more like it. It hasn't got legs. It's stuck!
DE MAGGIO: It's coming! Get up!
(They run a flight and look down on the Dalek.)
ADAM: Great big alien death machine defeated by a flight of stairs.

"If only it were that simple."

"Why can't it ever be that simple?" Amy groaned.

"Then it wouldn't be fun."

"How can you call this fun?" Rory demanded.

"It isn't. But it could be."

DE MAGGIO: Now listen to me. I demand that you return to your cage. If you want to negotiate then I can guarantee that Mister van Statten will be willing to talk. I accept that we imprisoned you and maybe that was wrong, but people have died, and that stops right now. The killing stops. Have you got that? I demand that you surrender. Is that clear?
DALEK: Elevate.
(The Dalek glides up the stairs, just like its forebears did at Coal Hill School.)
ROSE: Oh my God.

11 flipped his sonic screwdriver and buzzed it subconsciously. "It can fly! Now it's a party."

10 just looked at him. "Why'd you buzz the screwdriver?"

"No, the real question is, why didn't you? We've got a flying Dalek, and I know it isn't actually here in front of ud, but you dtill have the urge to murder it. And what do we us for most of our thinking and knowledge of things?"

"You aren't smart. You're incredibly stupid."

"And guess who I got that from?"

10 crossed his arms. I'll get you back for that.

No, you won't.

DE MAGGIO: Adam, get her out of here.
ROSE: Come with us. You can't stop it.
DE MAGGIO: Someone's got to try. Now get out! Don't look back. Just run. (Despite the closing range, de Maggio doesn't hit the eyepiece. She suffers the usual fate.)

[Office]

VAN STATTEN: I thought you were the great expert, Doctor. If you're so impressive, then why not just reason with this Dalek? It must be willing to negotiate. There must be something it needs. Everything needs something.
DOCTOR: What's the nearest town?
VAN STATTEN: Salt Lake City.
DOCTOR: Population?
VAN STATTEN: One million.
DOCTOR: All dead. If the Dalek gets out, it'll murder every living creature. That's all it needs.
VAN STATTEN: But why would it do that?
DOCTOR: Because it honestly believes they should die. Human beings are different, and anything different is wrong. It's the ultimate in racial cleansing and you, Van Statten, you've let it loose! The Dalek's surrounded by a force field. The bullets are melting before they even hit home, but it's not indestructible.

"Doctor?"

"What?" The three asked Rose.

"Do you have... Do you have uhm, PTSD? Because there is no way that you could just come out of a war without scars. I know you have all these different personalities because of your regenerations, but I seriously doubt that you could be so angry and defensive and smart without, I don't know..."

The aliens were quiet, silently pondering over this accusation. They hadn't thought about the fact that they could be mentally ill from the war. They had dismissed the thought in their guilt, believing that they didn't deserve an explanation for the way they felt. And with no one to actually prescribe them with it...

"Maybe." 11 was the first to say anything out of the three. His voice was tired, but he sat up, feeling somewhat better at the thought of having an answer to himself.

10 nodded, and 9 voiced his own agreement. "I mean, it is possible. I never thought about it."

[Loading bay]

DOCTOR [OC]: If you concentrate your fire, you might get through. Aim for the dome, the head, the eyepiece.

[Office]

DOCTOR: That's the weak spot.

[Loading bay]

COMMANDER: Thank you, Doctor, but I think I know how to fight one single tin robot. Positions!

Amy held back a laugh. "Hey, 11. I guess you do just have a face no one listens to."

11's eyes widened slightly before smiling. "I knew it! No one listens to me. Well, sometimes they do, but they don't a lot of the time.

10 himself was confused, but realization took over him. "I've got an inside joke haven't I?"

"Huh, I guess I do, don't I? Look at that, I don't think I've ever had an inside joke before. Well, other than with myself that is, when I was a kid and didn't have any friends."

(His men take cover behind various corners, packing cases, boxes and up on a catwalk with him. Rose and Adam run into view.)
COMMANDER: Hold your fire! You two, get the hell out of there!
(Rose and Adam run past a guard at the entrance. The Dalek enters, turns and zooms in on Rose's face. They get out of the bay.)

[Outside the loading bay]

ROSE: It was looking at me.
ADAM: Yeah, it wants to slaughter us.
ROSE: I know, but it was looking right at me.
ADAM: So? It's just a sort of metal eye thing. It's looking all around.
ROSE: I don't know. It's like there's something inside, looking at me, like, like it knows me.

Rose shivered. "That's creepy."

"Maybe it's got some of your DNA in it now and it suddenly has emotions." Mickey laughed.

He is so much smarter than we gave him credit for.

Yeah.

Ricky the idiot? Smart?

Shush. You're young. You don't understand these things.

I'm only four years younger than you.

Four years too young.

[Loading bay]

COMMANDER: On my mark. Open fire!

[Office]

GODDARD: We've got vision.
DOCTOR: It wants us to see.

[Loading bay]

(The hail of bullets is having no effect. Then the Dalek starts to rise straight up into the air. It zaps the fire alarm and the sprinklers are set off. Once the concrete floor is covered with a layer of water, it fires downwards and electrocutes every wet person on the ground.)
COMMANDER: Fall back! Fall back!
(The Dalek exterminates kills him and the rest of his men with another strategic shot, then continues to hang there, water pouring down its shell, crying in the rain.)

"The Dalek's only emotion id hat. But it's mocking the Doctor." Rory whispered to Amy. "Seems a bit suspiscous to me."

"Yeah. You can see the Doctor getting angrier by the minute." He nodded.

[Office]

VAN STATTEN: Perhaps it's time for a new strategy. Maybe we should consider abandoning this place.
GODDARD: Except there's no power to the helipad, sir. We can't get out.
DOCTOR: You said we could seal the vault.
VAN STATTEN: It was designed to be a bunker in the event of nuclear war. Steel bulkheads
GODDARD: There's not enough power, those bulkheads are massive.
DOCTOR: We've got emergency power. We can re-route that to the bulkhead doors.
GODDARD: We'd have to bypass the security codes. That would take a computer genius.

"The Doctor is an all-around genius, completely mad, but a genius." Martha commented.

"Thank you, but this next few minutes id going to be very bad on dignity, so I would take back that compliment before it's too late." 11 sat awkwardly in his chair, uncomfortable with how he acted back then.

"You saved an entire hospital that was transported to the moon, I'm sure that it's fine to call you a mad genius."

"Mad? Yes. Genius? Also yes. A savior? Unlikely. Just take it back before you regret it."

"No."

10 sunk in his chair and groaned, along with 11 who shifted to an even more awkward position.

VAN STATTEN: Good thing you've got me, then.
DOCTOR: You want to help?
VAN STATTEN: I don't want to die, Doctor. Simple as that. And nobody knows this software better than me.
GODDARD: Sir.
(The Dalek is back on the ground.)
DALEK [on screen]: I shall speak only to the Doctor.
DOCTOR: You're going to get rusty.
DALEK [on screen]: I fed off the DNA of Rose Tyler. Extrapolating the biomass of a time traveller regenerated me.

"Just how much of the DNA did it absorb?" Mickey asked, in a jokingly horror-like tone.

All of it.

Stop spoiling it, I want to see what happens.

No, you don't. Stop pretending you don't want to leave.

Can we all just... Be quiet for once?

No.

DOCTOR: What's your next trick?
DALEK [on screen]: I have been searching for the Daleks.
DOCTOR: Yeah, I saw. downloading the internet. What did you find?

[Loading bay]

DALEK: I scanned your satellites and radio telescopes.

[Office]

DOCTOR: And?
DALEK [on screen]: Nothing. Where shall I get my orders now?
DOCTOR: You're just a soldier without commands.
DALEK [on screen]: Then I shall follow the Primary Order, the Dalek instinct to destroy, to conquer.
DOCTOR: What for? What's the point? Don't you see it's all gone? Everything you were, everything you stood for.

[Loading bay]

DALEK: Then what should I do?

[Office]

DOCTOR: All right, then. If you want orders, follow this one. Kill yourself.

"Doctor!" Donna yelled in complete shock. She couldn't believe the Doctor would even think of saying that, even to his enemy.

I get it now.

"I definitely regret complimenting the Doctor now." Martha shivered, her anger rising.

9's realization left him still and afraid. He wasn't afraid of what the people in the room with him thought, he hadn't made a connection with them yet, he had to live his life for that, but he was terified for what the Dalek would say in response to that. He figured it would say something about the daleks needing to survive. He knew he wouldn't normally be analyzing this, he knew the emotions he was feeling on screen, because he felt them now, but he also knew that he wasn't thinking it through like he was. He wouldn't be thinking it through if it hadn't been for Donna. She had knocked him away rom his emotions for the time to think what he had been.

What he didn't realize in his whirlwind of thought, was that he was breathing heavily now, almost like he was going to have a panic attack. He felt people looking at him, the eyes of his two regeneration burning him more than the eyes of the human and half alien.

"I-I won't apologize for it. I am justified in telling that thing to kill itself. It's race killed so many of my people, it's killed me before. Daleks have cause pain and misery to every single species in the universe. Even my enemies would praise me for asking it to kill itself."

Rose was unable to contain her anger. "That doesn't make it right!"

"Have you not seen the people it killed? That's all a Dalek wants!"

"What if I told you to kill yourself, huh? You've killed so many before! The Daleks have brought pain and misery cause it's hard-wired in their DNA! You can't blame it for doing something it can't control it's actions-"

"And what? Even without anyone of its species being alive, it kills anyway. You'd think that even a Dalek could control itself from taking a life when it has nothing and no one else! And if you would tell me to kill myself, you don't think I haven't-"

"Stop!" Zachariah appeared in the room. "Now is not the time for fighting. I would try and electicute you, but you all need to be talked to without violence. You have repeatedly said that you would talk about things at the end of this episode, so leave this until the end. Emotions are running high this episode, I get it, but there is a time and a place fore when these things get discussed. Which will be later. Number 9 and Rose, you two need to calm down and sort out your differences before I start the nest episode, or else everything will get messed up. The reason I brought you here isn't clear to you yet, and it will be at some point. You'll talk about what you need to soon. No more fights, okay? Am I understood?"

Everyone nodded and turned back to the screen.

[Loading bay]

DALEK: The Daleks must survive!

[Office]

DOCTOR: The Daleks have failed! Why don't you finish the job and make the Daleks extinct. Rid the Universe of your filth. Why don't you just die?

9 flinched, still afraid of what the Dalek would say. Rose glared at him.

[Loading bay]

DALEK: You would make a good Dalek.

River couldn't stop her gasp. Even with having heard it before, 10 and 11 cringed at what the Dalek said.

9 began shaking, trying to control his breathing. He closed his eyes and gripped the edges of his leather jacket. At this point he wasn't able to control his breathing. He was not a Dalek. He wouldn't make a good Dalek. He wasn't anything close to a Dalek, he wasn't-he couldn't be-

And someone was gripping his shoulders, shaking him lightly. He heard a voice in his ear, but he couldn't make out what it was saying. All he could think was that he wasn't a Dalek, he couldn't be and that he wouldn't make a good Dalek. Because he wasn't anything like a Dalek.

"-tor! Doctor!" 9 snapped his eyes open, his vision was unfocused, but soon he was able to see a face in front of him-Rose.

When she saw he was focused on her, she sagged in relief. "Doctor, I am so sorry. I didn't-I didn't realize that you would react like this if you were going to be called a Dalek. I just-I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was such a bad thing. River told me though, and so did the other two of you. They told me just how evil they are, and you were completly right to say what you did, and you didn't deserve to be called a Dalek. You know how I know that? Cause you're the Doctor. You aren't a Dalek. And maybe you won't react like this on the screen, but I know you'll want to. I-"

9 didn't understand why she cut herself off. He was listening, he didn't say anything. It comforted him, to hear her words. Maybe she hadn't meant them, but she touched his face, under his eye. He was crying and she wiped away his tears. "Rose-"

"Sh. You're alright. Don't apologize to me."

9 shook more, holding back the rest of his tears.

"I'm going back to my seat now, the other two of you will make sure you don't break down again. You're fine, okay? Don't listen to the Dalek."

9 only managed a shaky nod.

11 and 10 themselves were doing their best to avoid River and Jack, but they eventually gave up and sat down. They saw 9, and they felt a little guilty about not warning him properly, but they weren't allowed to, 11 knew what would happen, but 10 just wanted to be safe, and he trusted his newest regeneration-well, as much as one can trust themself.

Hey. Sorry. For not warning you, we couldn't have, I hope you understand.

It's fine. I'm fine now. We'll talk about this later, after the episode.

... Looking forward to it?

No, of course not.

[Office]

(The screen goes blank.)
DOCTOR: Seal the Vault.
VAN STATTEN: I can leech power off the ground defences, feed it to the bulkheads. God, it's been years since I had to work this fast.
DOCTOR: Are you enjoying this?
GODDARD: Doctor, she's still down there.

[Staircase]

(Rose's phone rings.)
ROSE: This isn't the best time.
DOCTOR [OC]: Where are you?
ROSE: Level forty nine.

[Office]

DOCTOR: You've got to keep moving. The vault's being sealed off up at level forty six.

[Staircase]

ROSE: Can't you stop them closing?

[Office]

DOCTOR: I'm the one who's closing them. I can't wait and I can't help you.

Everyone (except those who knows what's going to happen) tense up, somehow knowing this wasn't going to end up very well.

[Staircase]

DOCTOR [OC]: Now for God's sake, run.
(The Dalek is at level fifty one.)

[Office]

VAN STATTEN: Done it. We've got power to the bulkheads.
GODDARD: The Dalek's right behind them.

[Level 46]

ROSE: We're nearly there. Give us two seconds.

[Office]

VAN STATTEN: Doctor, I can't sustain the power. The whole system is failing. Doctor, you've got to close the bulkheads.

"Well, he sounds slightly worried?" Mickey guesses, before shaking his head. "Or maybe scared of you'll do if he doesn't listen to you."

11 smirked and tilted his head down slightly. "Yeah. Everyone loves the messing with the Doctor until he gets angry."

"Like that, you look angry."

"I'm not angry. You'll know when I'm angry."

"You've used that line to scare your enemies, haven't you?"

11 just shook his head and held back a laugh.

DOCTOR: I'm sorry.

[Level 46]

(The Doctor hits Enter. A klaxon sounds and the bulkhead starts to lower.)
ADAM: Come on!
(Adam rolls under the bulkhead with eighteen inches to spare.)

[Office]

VAN STATTEN: The vault is sealed.
DOCTOR: Rose, where are you? Rose, did you make it?

[Level 46]

ROSE: Sorry, I was a bit slow.
(The Dalek comes round the corner.)
ROSE: See you, then, Doctor. It wasn't your fault. Remember that, okay? It wasn't your fault.

9, already in a fragile state of mind, nearly has another panic attack, but when he looked at his older regenerations, he calms slightly. They didn't look nearly as worried as he'd thought they would if Rose had actually died.

[Office]

ROSE [OC]: And do you know what?

[Level 46]

ROSE: I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

[Office]

DALEK [OC]: Exterminate!
(Zap!)
DOCTOR: I killed her.
VAN STATTEN: I'm sorry.
DOCTOR: I said I'd protect her. She was only here because of me, and you're sorry? I could've killed that Dalek in it's cell, but you stopped me.
VAN STATTEN: It was the prize of my collection!
DOCTOR: Your collection? But was it worth it? Worth all those men's deaths? Worth Rose? Let me tell you something, Van Statten. Mankind goes into space to explore, to be part of something greater.
VAN STATTEN: Exactly! I wanted to touch the stars!
DOCTOR: You just want to drag the stars down and stick them underground, underneath tons of sand and dirt, and label them. You're about as far from the stars as you can get. And you took her down with you. She was nineteen years old.

"But, I haven't died, right? I don't-I can't die there! Not yet. I-I have a whole life to live!" Rose started to cry, trying not to sob in despair.

Mickey wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled Rose into a hug. She sobbed quietly into his jacket, Mickey already knowing he was going to kill the Doctor and whoever else that was responsible if she was actually dead.

The three aliens seemed to flinch as her sobs got louder, but they calmed after few minutes when she stopped and pulled away from her boyfriend.

[Level 46]

ROSE: Go on then, kill me. Why're you doing this?

Rose and 9 both released a breath and smiled happily. She's still alive.

DALEK: I am armed. I will kill. It is my purpose.
ROSE: They're all dead because of you.
DALEK: They are dead because of us.
ROSE: And now what? What're you waiting for?
DALEK: I feel your fear.
ROSE: What do you expect?
DALEK: Daleks do not fear. Must not fear.
(The Dalek shoots at either side of the bulkhead door.)
DALEK: You gave me life. What else have you given me? I am contaminated.

"Wait-I was right! It got emotions from Rose's DNA!" Mickey gloated to the Doctor.

"Yes, Mickey. You were... Right about something." 10 felt naeseous after having said that.

I'm so sorry you had to say that.

I feel sick.

"So you admit it! That means... I've earned your approval and trust! I win, I'm now his favorite."

10 was frozen in shock for a few seconds, all Mickey wanted was his approval and to have hist trust, which he only had one of those. Then the rest of the statement registered. "No, you don't have my trust, and no you are definitely not the favorite. There's already someone in that spot."

River, knowing it was Rose, felt confronted. "Yeah, and it better be me at some point."

11 laughed nervously.

[Office]

(Adam enters.)
DOCTOR: You were quick on your feet, leaving Rose behind.
ADAM: I'm not the one who sealed the vault!
DALEK [on screen]: Open the bulkhead or Rose Tyler dies.
DOCTOR: You're alive!
ROSE [on screen]: Can't get rid of me.
DOCTOR: I thought you were dead.
DALEK [on screen]: Open the bulkhead!
ROSE [on screen]: Don't do it!
DALEK [on screen]: What use are emotions if you will not save the woman you love?

10 sat up. "That question-we'll need an answer to that."

Rory sighed. "You'll get one, Doctor. With the conversation we're apparantly going to have with Zachariah."

DOCTOR: I killed her once. I can't do it again.
(The bulkhead opens. Rose and the Dalek walk through.)
VAN STATTEN: What do we do now, you bleeding heart. What the hell do we do?
ADAM: Kill it when it gets here.
GODDARD: All the guns are useless, and the alien weapons are in the vault.
ADAM: Only the catalogued ones.

[Adam's workshop]

DOCTOR: Broken. Broken. Hairdryer.
ADAM: Mister Van Statten tends to dispose of his staff, and when he does he wipes their memory. I kept this stuff in case I needed to fight my way out one day.
DOCTOR: What, you in a fight? I'd like to see that.
ADAM: I could do.
DOCTOR: What're you going to do, throw your A-Levels at 'em? Oh, yes. Lock and load.

"Once again, the only time I will permit gun usage."

[Lift]

ROSE: I'm begging you, don't kill them. You didn't kill me.
DALEK: But why not? Why are you alive? My function is to kill. What am I? What am I?

[Office]

ROSE: Don't move. Don't do anything. It's beginning to question itself.
DALEK: Van Statten. You tortured me. Why?
VAN STATTEN: I wanted to help you. I just, I don't know. I was trying to help. I thought if we could get through to you, if we could mend you. I wanted you better. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry! I swear, I just wanted you to talk!

"Still makes me nauseous, the way he talks." Donna huffed.

Martha nodded. "Yeah, I'd argue to say he's worse than the Dalek."

"Oh, nothing is worse than a Dalek." River corrected her.

(Van Statten is backed up against the wall.)
DALEK: Then hear me talk now. Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!
ROSE: Don't do it! Don't kill him! You don't have to do this anymore. There must be something else, not just killing. What else is there? What do you want?
DALEK: I want freedom.
(The Doctor is running up the stairs with his honking big gun.) {What is with these descriptions? Like, I'm not writing these out of my ass, these are official transcripts.}

[Level 1]

(The Dalek blasts a hole in the roof, and a shaft of sunlight streams down straight onto its eyepiece.)
ROSE: You're out. You made it. I never thought I'd feel the sunlight again.
DALEK: How does it feel?

Amy gripped Rory's hand. "A Dalek never leaves that cage, does it?"

"No, cause then it would be vulnerable. The cage is protection and defense." 11 responded grimly.

(The Dalek opens its middle and dome sections to reveal the one-eyed mutant within. It holds out a tendril.)
DOCTOR: Get out of the way. Rose, get out of the way now!
ROSE: No. I won't let you do this.
DOCTOR: That thing killed hundreds of people.
ROSE: It's not the one pointing the gun at me.
DOCTOR: I've got to do this. I've got to end it. The Daleks destroyed my home, my people. I've got nothing left.

Guilt was evident on all the Doctors faces. Even though it was true, it wasn't all the Dalek's fault, despite the hate they had for the species.

ROSE: Look at it.
DOCTOR: What's it doing?
ROSE: It's the sunlight, that's all it wants.
DOCTOR: But it can't
ROSE: It couldn't kill Van Statten, it couldn't kill me. It's changing. What about you, Doctor? What the hell are you changing into?
DOCTOR: I couldn't. I wasn't. Oh, Rose. They're all dead.

"You didn't realize everyone else was dead until that moment, huh?" Rose asked, delicately.

"They-oh, they're all dead. I knew that. I knew they were dead. I just-I just can't-"

10 put a hand on 9's shoulder, and squeezed tightly.

DALEK: Why do we survive?
DOCTOR: I don't know.
DALEK: I am the last of the Daleks.
DOCTOR: You're not even that. Rose did more than regenerate you. You've absorbed her DNA. You're mutating.
DALEK: Into what?
DOCTOR: Something new. I'm sorry.

"We all heard that? The Doctor just apologized to a Dalek." Donna loudly said.

"It isn't a Dalek anymore. It's-it's wrong now. That's why he apologized." River explained.

ROSE: Isn't that better?
DOCTOR: Not for a Dalek.
DALEK: I can feel so many ideas. So much darkness. Rose, give me orders. Order me to die.
ROSE: I can't do that.
DALEK: This is not life. This is sickness. I shall not be like you. Order my destruction! Obey! Obey! Obey!
ROSE: Do it.
DALEK: Are you frightened, Rose Tyler?
ROSE: Yeah.
DALEK: So am I. Exterminate.
(The Dalek shuts its eye. Rose retreats as it closes up its armour again then rises into the air. The balls on its lower body spread out around it creating a forcefield, then it implodes safely.)

Jack sniffed. "This is so sad. Anyone with a phone: play Despacito."

River shot him, the Doctors flinched at the sudden sound.

Jack gasped as he woke up. "That was just uncalled for, but you're really pretty, so I won't be mad."

"Flatterer, are you?"

Jack winked at her. "The best around."

"Sorry, I'm married."

He pouted in disappointment.

[Corridor]

(Van Statten is under guard, wherever they came from.)
VAN STATTEN: What the hell are you doing?
GODDARD: Two hundred personnel dead, and all because of you, sir. Take him away, wipe his memory, and leave him by the road someplace.
VAN STATTEN: You can't do this to me. I am Henry van Statten!
GODDARD: And by tonight, Henry van Statten will be a homeless, brainless junkie living on the streets of San Diego, Seattle, Sacramento. Someplace beginning with S.

"Honestly, She should've said somewhere beginning with M, it would've been a nice callback, but whatever." Amy leaned back in disappointment.

Rory held her hand. "I think she was referencing the first letter of his last name. You know, Henry van Statten?"

She sighed dramatically. "Yeah, whatever."

[Museum]

DOCTOR: A little piece of home. Better than nothing.
ROSE: Is that the end of it, the Time War?
DOCTOR: I'm the only one left. I win. How about that?
ROSE: The Dalek survived. Maybe some of your people did too.
DOCTOR: I'd know. In here. (his head) Feels like there's no one.

"I have a question. Don't be offended. Uhm, so, it sort of sounds like you have a psychic link with all the Time Lords, or maybe just a subconscious connection. Uhm, did you feel it when all of your people died?"

11 sighed and smiled slightly. "Yes. It was one of the most painful things I've ever gone through. And you, Rose Tyler, you are absolutly fantastic. Because no human has ever made me go through such heartache like that before. One of the other most painful things to happen to me was you. Don't worry, it wasn't death, but it was one of the few things that can make me panic and or cry. Sorry, I probably said too much. Don't worry. You'll be happy."

10 perked up. "She will be?"

11 gave him a sad smile.

ROSE: Well then, good thing I'm not going anywhere.
DOCTOR: Yeah.
ADAM: We'd better get out. Van Statten's disappeared. They're closing down the base. Goddard says they're going to fill it full of cement, like it never existed.
ROSE: About time.
ADAM: I'll have to go back home.
DOCTOR: Better hurry up then. Next flight to Heathrow leaves at fifteen hundred hours.
ROSE: Adam was saying that all his life he wanted to see the stars.
DOCTOR: Tell him to go and stand outside, then.
ROSE: He's all on his own, Doctor, and he did help.
DOCTOR: He left you down there.
ROSE: So did you.
ADAM: What're you talking about? We've got to leave.
DOCTOR: Plus, he's a bit pretty.

Jack raised and eyebrow. "The Doctor is gay, confirmed?"

Donna shook her head. "No, that doesn't fit. I'd say he's asexual and panromantic."

"Oh, that does fit!" Amy clapped happily.

Are they deciding our sexual orientation for us?

Well, we haven't figured it out yet.

God, I'm and idiot. I have had 903 years to figure it out.

To be fair, we've always been a bit busy with other stuff.

The real question is, are we asexual and panromantic?

Probably?

"I mean, I do get married twice in the future. It was to females though.

Well, I'm not straight.

Jack caught your eye, didn't he?

Yeah... But so did River.

Shush, shut up. I think we should just go along with it. It makes sense for us to be asexual and panromantic.

Yeah, I'd say so.

Agreed.

Jack looked over to the Doctors. "So, have you figured it out yet?"

"Yeah, we think that Donna is right." 10 looked away. "Uh, we should finish this episode so that we can get the therapy over with."

ROSE: I hadn't noticed.
DOCTOR: On your own head.
(The Doctor unlocks the Tardis.)
ADAM: What're you doing? She said cement. She wasn't joking. We're going to get sealed in.
(The Doctor and Rose go inside the Tardis.)
ADAM: Doctor? What're you doing standing inside a box? Rose?
(Adam creeps inside the Tardis, and it dematerialises.)

Zachariah appeared again. "Therapy session begins now. Everyone will participate."

He made the sofas and chairs disappear and put metal chairs in a circle in their stead. Everyone took a seat, the Doctors next to each other, the couple sat across from them, Jack and River sat on either side of the Doctors, and Donna and Martha sat next to each other.

Zachariah made a clipboard and pen appear in his hands as he sat down. "Okay, first question. It was asked earlier. Why do we have emotions? Feel free to talk whenever you'd like."

Donna was the first to speak. "To keep ourselves from turning into crazy killing machines like the Daleks, Slitheen, and any other killer alien race. And serial killers, too."

"That's good, let's add on that. Doctor, any of you, I'd like you to answer this one."

"Uh..." 10 started. "Well... Cause if you didn't have emotions then we wouldn't all be different."

11 nodded. "Cause you humans, you like to form opinions on otherwise non-controversal things. If you didn't have those emotions tied to your opinions, then you wouldn't form opinions at all. And that's the silliest thing about you. Some of you like to act like emotions don't bother you, but the moment someone opposes your world view, you get all defensive and angry. But when someone agrees with you, you feel powerful and happy. People can die and you wouldn't bat an eye, but when it's someone you know, suddenly it's the worst thing to ever happen."

"Pause, Doctor. You say 'you humans.' Are a Time Lords' emotions different than human emotions?"

9 scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Of course they're different. Humans and Time Lords are synonymous, but even synonyms are different. We have the same basic needs; food, water, sleep, and our bodily autonomies are practically the same. Obviously, Time Lords need less of everything a human does, because we're more equipped to store what we need and to live off what we have. If we went and did what humans did, eating three meals, drinking at least 3 liters of water, and getting 8 hours of sleep, we'd die. Because we're meant to store and function of little things. Sometimes, we do need a little more of everything. Take the oldest one of me-he stopped time for a bit too long and he had just finished regenerating. That combo of things naturally amke us tired and we need slepp to restore ourselves and set us right. So you can't expect for us to transmit emotions the same way humans do every time. We have opinions on things, non-controversal things, but we don't starte legitamte fights over it. We just state why we think that way and move on. The only opinions we ever really get emotional over is the ones that personally and politically apply to us. It's why the Last Great Time War started. It's why I get involved in terrifying things so often. Alright, now take this information and apply it to something. Someone died. A Time Lord thinks you either care or you don't. If you decide to care this time, you care every other time. If you decide not to care, you don't care every other time. If you get happy for someone because they got engaged, you're happy for every other other person. Even if it's someone that you wanted to marry. That's how it works, if you get angry about guns for killing, then you're angry at guns even if they aren't killing. Of course, you cann change your opinions, justify things you wouldn't normally justify on rare occasions. Humans do that too, but they constantly do it. Time Lords are very direct about what they think and they rarely try and change the way they do think. So, yeah. We may have the same emotions, but we deal with them differently. That's not to say that the three of us aren't different cases becasue of our prolonged exposure to humans. But even then, we still trnsmit emotions differently."

Everyone other than a select few were shocked at how much the 9th Doctor said, he was quieter than the rest of the Doctors, and it didn't sit right with them how much he said. Zachariah was shocked as well, but composed himself quickly and began writing on his clipboard. "Open question, except for the Doctors. This is going to be a bit of a shock what I'm going to say next, so just try and not freak out. The Doctor killed most of the Daleks attacking Gallifrey, In order to do so, he also killed every single living thing that was alos on Gallifrey. He did it to end the Time War. Was he justified or should he be feeling as guilty as he does?"

They all thought in complete silence, they had a feeling the Doctor had probably done that, and they weren't all thet shocked when it was confirmed. River spoke up. "The Doctor feels guilty about all deaths that he had indirectly or directly caused. Even without having killed the trillions he had in the Time War, he's already killed thousands. Most of them were very bad people, some were good people caught in collateral damage. The Doctor should feel guilty for having everyone in his species killed in the collateral damage of killing the Daleks; however, the Time War was not started by him. He didn't even want to fight it. But the Doctor never starts fights, or wars, he ends them. So the Doctor did. He didn't want to kill them, he lost everyone, he's alone, but if he hadn't ended it then someone else would have and the Doctor wouldn't be alive. As punishment for the murder, the Doctor has to live. Because he truly wanted to die along with everyone else. And thank someone he lived because he has saved so many lives."

Zachariah nodded and began writing. They all sat for a few seconds before Mickey couldn't help say something. "But... If you were able to save as many people as you've killed... Wouldn't that, I don't know, resolve yourself?"

"I'd rather have saved group question for each after I was finished, but go ahead. Just do whatever." Zachariah muttered grumpily.

10 stared at Zachariah for a moment before returning his gaze to Mickey. "No. No, there is one thing that will resolve me for what I've done. And it's the one thing that terrifies me more than anything. Dying. The moment I die for good, is the moment that I will rejoice and fear. I don't want to die or be gone from the universe. But-but if I'm careless with my life, and help people and die doing it, then at least I've done one thing right in my stupid life."

"And this is why we are doing therapy. Okay, Doctor. You want to die because you feel guilty, yes?" Zachariah asked, to which the Doctor nodded. "You don't deserve it. You don't deserve to die, and you think you do, but there are other way to resolve your guilt, even slightly. You've been doing it, saving people. Taking humans with you to show them the universe so that you could amaze them and make them happy. But, in doing so, they start to care about you. That, you fear. So then they do things to save you, and you think that you should feel guilty, but everyone feels guilty about that. You don't have to feel guilty about people saving you because you care. Everyone also fears death, and many want it. You Doctor, want to die but fear actually dying. The Doctor is not suicidal. He wants to live and die at the same time. Which isn't being suicidal, well, not actively. He has passive suicidal thoughts, not actively trying to die, but not actively trying to live. There is a piece of the Doctor solved. I will say this, for another piece of him solved. He most definitely has PTSD and each of his regenerations either has an explainable human mental disorder or doesn't. They all have PTSD in common, remember that."

11 huffed and smirked. "Well, that was easy. Anyone have questions or something they need to get off their chest?"

"I was going to ask that." Zachariah snapped quietly.

"Uhm... Does travelling with the Doctor give any of us PTSD or some other disorder?" Rory asked, hugging Amy's shoulders.

Zachariah perked up, and wrote something down on his clipboard. "Yeah, some of you. Not all of you, though. Can't say who. One of you actually gets a hero complex."

Jack coughed into his arm and sniffed. "What?"

"One of you will die."

River shifted in her seat.

"Four of you will leave. Two because they couldn't take it or because they didn't se a life with the Doctor anymore. One is taken away and the last goes after the other was taken, but they weren't exactly ripped away."

Martha and Amy frowned in concern, while Mickey and Rory just looked at each other, suspiciously. They don't like each other very much.

"One of you will forget him."

Donna stood in protest. "How could anyone forget about the Doctor?"

"And the last one of you will be ripped away from the Doctor, never able to return to him."

Rose sucked in a breath. "That sounds terrible."

"And the worst part is: the 11th Doctor knows who fits each category, except for two. But I'm sure he'll have figured it out by now."

Well, I hope that was sad. I don't think it was proper angst/whump, but I hope everything I put into the descriptions all sounds correct.

Also, since it's summer, I'm going to try and update this at least once a week, and we should be on season 2 pretty quickly here.

Have a good day! Or night? Idk.

We didn't hit 15k. :(
