Clay Mudflow got out of bed, feeling half-asleep. He was definitely not a morning person. As much as he hated getting out of bed, he knew he had to do it. And plus, today was an important day: it was the first day of eleventh grade. Clay put on a red flannel shirt, brown sweatpants, and brown Nike sneakers.

Clay took a seat at the very noisy table. He was the oldest of seven children, and he had several siblings. Their names were Reed, Pheasant, Marsh, Sora, and Umber. They had a sister, Crane, but a few years ago, she had been kidnapped, and was never seen again. They all missed her, but had eventually moved on. Clay, who loved to eat, had a large breakfast before packing up his stuff and preparing to go to school. Just then, his phone dinged with a text from his friend, Starflight Nightfall.

Starflight
Hey Clay! Can you please pick me up? My sister left to go hang out with her friends, and I haven't got my driver's license yet.

Clay
Of course! I'll come ASAP

Clay got in his car and drove to Starflight's house. A few seconds after he pulled up in Starflight's driveway, Starflight ran out of his house, and took a seat next to him. "Hi Starflight, how was your summer?" Clay asked

"Oh, normal, just studying, seeing a friend every now and then..." Starflight replied.

"How is it going with Sunny?" Clay asked mischievously. Starflight had a massive crush on Sunny, one of their friends, but had never found the courage to confess to her.

"I haven't confessed to her yet, I have no idea how," Starflight mumbled shyly.

Clay nearly burst with frustration. "Starflight, you've liked her since, like, grade seven. It's been about four years. Confess to her before I die of her ignorance of your feelings."

Starflight thought about it for a moment, then said, "Okay. I'll try to make a plan to tell her I like her sometime this year."

"Yes! Finally! I'll help you if you want my help," Clay cheered.

"That would be great, thank you," Starflight replied. Clay could tell this was going to be a very interesting year.
