Sonja didn't realize but she was still using the burner phone with the Triple P shadow app. Patton could hear every word that she said between her and Dre. If only he had been listening at the time, but he was sitting in the kitchen at the office with Miss Loretta, anxiously awaiting news on Mama LaSalle. Maybe only then he could've realized what Sonja was about to do.
Nobody seemed to notice that Sonja had slipped out of the hospital. She quietly went to the parking lot, hailed a cab and got inside. She was gone in a matter of moments. Not that anyone could've stopped her, this was her son and she was going to get him back no matter what. It was only when Chris went outside to see if she was off the phone that he noticed she was gone. He went to the security guard.
"Excuse me, but have you seen Agent Percy?"
"Yes Agent LaSalle. She was on the phone by the corner for a few moments and then hailed a cab and left."
"How long ago was that?"
"Thank you," Chris said as he turned and raced back inside the emergency room. Pride looked at him as he burst through the door.
"What's wrong Christopher?"
"Percy is gone."
"What do you mean gone?" Gergorio asked.
"Security guard said she left in a cab about 15 minutes ago."
"Where would she go?" Pride asked.
"I don't know. We were waiting to hear about Mama and then made plans to join the search for Caden."
"Did she go look for him on her own?" Gregorio asked.
"Where would she even know to look?" Pride asked as his phone rang. It was Patton. "What you got P?"
"Did y'all know Percy is on the move?"
"Can you track her?" Pride asked.
"Of course. She still has the burner."
"Where is she Patton?" Chris asked, frantic.
"Headed down to the docks. Why would she be going there when LaSalle's mom is in the hospital?"
"I bet she found Dre. He is the one who took Caden. I bet she went to go get him back," Chris said to Pride as Isler came into the room.
"We just recieved word. Caden was turned into a fire station about 3 miles from here."
"Where?" Gregorio asked.
"Water St. Near the docks."
"She found Dre," Chris said again.
"Who found Dre?" Isler asked.
"Sonja," Pride and Gregorio said together.
"Where is Sonja?" Isler asked.
"Better keep up FBI man, you're about a day late and dollar short," Patton said over the phone, apparently nobody remembering he was on speaker.
"Sonja found Dre and probably offered herself up in exchange for Caden. Now she's gone off and done something stupid," Chris said, kicking himself for not being more aware of the situation. If anything happened to Sonja, he would never forgive himself.
"Patton do you have her exact location?" Chris asked.
"Matter of minutes baby. Never doubt a Triple P shadow app."
"Good. Let us know when you get it," Chris said before hanging up the phone. He turned to Pride. "I'm going after her."
"Not without backup."
Sonja arrived at the docks and paid her cab. She got out and slowly walked down the pier before hearing a gun cocking behind her. She turned and saw Dre standing there, gun trained on her.
"Toss the piece," he told her.
"I ain't carrying."
"Bull. Toss it or I'll kill you where you stand."
Sonja sighed to herself before reaching behind her and grabbing her gun from the holster.
"That's it, nice and easy."
She tossed her gun on the ground and kicked it towards Dre. He bent down and picked it up, weapon still trained on her.
"So where's my son?" Sonja asked.
"Dropped that brat off at the fire house. I bet yo Baby Daddy knows by now that the brat is back."
"He better be in perfect condition or you will pay."
"Nobody gives Dre ultimatims."
"Guess I'm not just nobody then."
"No, you're the lousy bitch who thought she could infiltrate my business."
"Now see I've been called a lot of things in life, you really think being called a bitch bothers me? It doesn't."
"It will be bothering you when your brat is growing up without you in his life."
"I'll always be in my son's life."
"Not once I'm done with you."
"You've always been a lot of talk, you know that?" Sonja asked, starting to get bored. The whole time she was under with Dre's gang before, all he ever was was talk. He never actually did any of his own dirty work. Dre liked to keep his hands clean. Not this time.
Sonja lunged at Dre, knocking the gun from his hand and it skittered a few feet away. She brought her leg up and kicked Dre hard to the cheek. She went to deliver another blow to his gut when he grabbed her hand and threw her to the ground.
"You really think you can beat me? Nobody has ever beaten Dre and nobody ever will. 4th Street Diablos as here to stay forever and there's nothing you can..."
A shot rang out across the pier, an eerie sound echoing in the dim light. It was all happening in slow motion. A red dot appeared on Dre's shirt and slowly the blood began to seep. A small bit of blood trickled out his lips and down the corners of his mouth. He looked down at his chest, dropping his gun in the process. Dre fell to his knees and then fell forward onto his chest and face. Sonja was scared to look up but when she finally did, she saw the most incredible sight.
Chris was behind Dre, weapon at the ready in case Dre tried to get back up. He was down on one knee, his NCIS hat turned backwards and his eyes filled with intense determination. The look on his face said anger, but once he realized Dre was down for the count, a small smile played on his lips. It was the same boyish smile that made Sonja fall in love with him. He holstered his weapon and ran to Sonja.
"Thank God we found you in time," Chris said, wrapping his muscular arms around her smaller frame.
"How did you find me?"
"You still had your burner phone. Patton tracked you with his shadow app."
"But what about Caden?"
"He's fine. Isler is with him at the hospital and he will be moved into Mama's room once he gets the all clear. Isler has guards standing watch."
"Where's the team?"
"Sebastian is with Patton and Pride is here with me and Gregorio."
The other agents ran up to the couple.
"Sonja, are you okay?" Gregorio asked.
"I'm fine."
"And Dre?" Pride asked.
"Christopher took him out."
"It was him or Sonja so I made a judgement call," Chris said, not letting go of Sonja. He always wanted to be touching her, he never wanted to let her go again. Nothing had ever felt so right in his life and now he truly understood that life was short. Losing his father and then Cade started to crack the hard shell protecting his heart but after seeing his mother lying bloody and motionless on the floor and hearing his son was missing, the shell finally broke. He never wanted to be apart for his family again and now that he had Sonja back, he was going to make sure she stayed.
Chris dropped to his knee in front of their friends and pulled a small box from his pocket.
"Sonja, this wasn't quite how I wanted to do this but after everything that happened tonight, I'm not waiting another minute. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I never truly felt love until I felt what I feel for you. Savannah may have been my first love, but I want you and Caden to be my last. If nothing else ever goes right for me in my life, I hope this is the one thing that does."
"Christopher what are you saying?" Sonja asked.
"I want you to marry me, make us a real family. I want us to be parents to Caden together. I want us to have more kids. I want to spend every day for the rest of my life being the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night. I want to live life with you hogging the bathroom in the morning, trying to convince a country boy to try vegan food and falling asleep with you in my arms. Marry me, Sonja."
Sonja was in tears as Chris finished his monologue. He truly loved her, he really did. As long as she had her Country Mouse by her side, there was nothing they couldn't face together. She knelt down to be at his eye level.
"Yes Christopher, I will marry you."
