I don't own these characters or Supergirl.

AN:

Hi everyone! Happy Hump Day. I hope this finds you in good health and good spirits. Read, relax and Enjoy! Suggestions are always welcome here!

When Kara was enrolled in school, Alex was in what the humans called high school. Kara had to be in "middle school" which was horribly insulting to her intelligence. Alex was in the tenth grade, so she couldn't be with Kara as she adjusted. Kara didn't fit in almost immediately. She had a funny accent, a standoffish personality, and kept to herself. She could hear them whispering in the halls.

"That new girl is weird."

"The Danvers adopted her suddenly. I guess she's from Russia."

"No wonder she's weird. She's probably a communist."

Kara tried her best to tune the world out, but it was proving to be more and more difficult. Kal had dumped her with the Danvers. She was their responsibility, and despite Alex promising to look after her, Kara knew the auburn haired girl resented her. For what, she wasn't sure. The more yellow sun radiation her cells soaked up, the more her powers manifested. She was terrified when she could see a bunch of skeletons instead of her fellow classmates one day. The school called Eliza when Kara broke down in the hallway, cowering in a corner with her knees drawn up. Jeremiah finally called Kal for advice, which came in the form of a box hand delivered to the Danvers house when they were leaving to pick Kara up. His dark hair curled on his forehead as he leaned his large frame in the car window to hand Eliza a box containing glasses. She peered at him curiously. She could see familiarity in his facial features. Same expressive blue eyes, strong jaw, same nose just a bit bigger. His blue eyes were filled with regret.

"They're lead lined. It'll help keep her powers dampened until she gets control. I…tell my cousin I'm sorry. I wish I could be here more." Then, he was gone again. Jeremiah sighed and put the car in reverse to save the little girl that fell into their arms, and eventually their hearts.

It was an average Tuesday morning in mid August when Kara found herself outside a little cafe near her office around ten. The sun soaked into her skin like a dry sponge absorbing water. There wasn't a single cloud in the bright blue sky. Birds chirped nearby and somewhere in the distance, Kara could hear butterfly wings. It was her favorite sound in the entire world.

Luckily, Kara didn't need to come into the office that day since she covered a press conference about Luthor-Corp changing ownership the previous day. She needed to edit her article, and with Ms. Grant's blessing, she was allowed to work from home. Thank Rao too, because battling an alien with acid spit took more out of Kara than she cared to admit. After Lex Luthor's downfall against her cousin, the multibillion dollar company needed a new CEO. The new CEO wouldn't be revealed until later on in the day, which Kara was covering along with her cousin from the Daily Planet. He wanted to scope out who would take over the Luthor mantle. It was a bold move to relocate the Luthor-Corp headquarters from Metropolis to National City. Kal feared it was because of Kara and Kara didn't want to speculate.

Outside the cafe with two cups of steaming coffee stood his alter ego. Kara smiled on her approach. She leaned against the building with Kal taking the offered cup with a moan of gratitude. Kal snickered at her theatrics.

"Clark, long time, no see." she teased. The (technically) older reporter rolled his eyes and bumped his shoulder against Kara's.

"Good to see you too, cousin." he leaned down to whisper in an almost conspiratory tone. "Great save yesterday, even if your suit is ruined and all of America was graced with your abs." Kara snorted, spewing coffee from her cup.

"Clark, don't." she glanced down at her outfit and with a whine, exclaimed, "Gosh darn it, Clark! I just bought this top!" Kal threw his head back with a booming laugh that drew some eyes.

"Just button up your blazer a bit and let's go. The conference is about to start and we have to walk like normal human beings." Kara groaned, but followed Kal to the Luthor Building anyway.

"I don't think I'll ever get used to this, Clark." Kara mumbled, knowing he would be able to hear.

"What's that?" He asked in a similar tone, low enough everyone else couldn't hear, but knew Kara could.

"The sheer amount of sound everywhere." she whispered. Out of her peripherals, she saw Kal nod in agreement.

"Me neither, but focusing on a sound that brings comfort helps." he said softly, placing a firm hand on the junior reporter's shoulder. Kara smiled, grateful that she wasn't alone in this. An announcer took to the stage, and began to introduce the new CEO. Lex's sister. Which came as a shock since she was basically unheard of. The Luthors definitely knew how to keep a secret.

Kara already had her recorder out, when a familiar face came out from behind the stage divider. Her jaw dropped and Kara could see Kal's eyes flicker to Kara's dumbfounded expression.

"My name is Lena Luthor." Jade green eyes grazed over the crowd of reporters before landing on Kara. They darted to the badge on her lapel, noting she was a reporter now, and not some lowly assistant. The thought made her signature ruby lips curl into a small smile. She nodded at Kara.

She remembers me. The thought warmed Kara. Kal elbowed her ribs to grab her attention. Hard.

"Ow! What the hell, Clark?" she hissed, tearing her eyes from the woman standing at the podium. She quickly paused the recorder and tucked a pen behind her ear.

"Do you know her?" he whispered. Kara gave a short nod.

"I'll explain later." she replied harsher than she meant to. She frowned slightly and resumed her recorder.

"I want to move this company towards a brighter, safer, and kinder future. No longer with we contribute to the xenophobia. Which is why I moved to rebrand Luthor-corp to L-corp. Leading the market with cutting edge medical technology. To start rebuilding trust between the Luthor name and the Supers, I have an offer for Supergirl. If she can hear this, or is watching, have your people contact my people. I have a new suit for you. From the news yesterday, I'd say it's good timing too." Lena Luthor winked. She winked at the camera. Kara blushed when Kal snickered again.

"Told ya so." Kal remarked. Kara ground her teeth to bite back what would have been a snarky retort. Kara shifted her focus back on the raven-haired beauty from the bar.

"Hopefully, together, we can rebuild trust with the public. Questions?" Miss Luthor asked the crowd and all at once, reporters clamored to be first. Kara raised her hand, pen between her index finger and thumb. Lena's eyes landed on Kara, pointing to the blonde.

"You, Blonde with glasses." Kara smirked, but quickly switched back into meek Kara Danvers.

"Kara Danvers, Catco Worldwide. You mention Xenophobia in the same breathe as quote 'cutting edge medical techology.' Would this technology cater to both humans and aliens? Also, how affordable will it be to the general public?" Lena paused for a moment to fully process the questions. Clearly she wasn't expecting this line of questioning. Kara surmised she felt she would be bombarded with inquiries about Lex's crimes.

"That is a great question Miss Danvers. To answer simply, yes. My R department is developing a line of technology to help alien refugees in the event of an emergency. As for accessibility to the general public, I am hoping to donate any devices found to be effective in treating aliens to the local hospitals here first. Anything we come up with will be rigorously tested before being distributed. As for other hospitals, I will push to make our inventions affordable. Healthcare is a right, human or alien." satisfied with her answer, Lena smiled, signaling she was done.

"Thank you, Miss Luthor." Kara snuck a peek at Kal. He seemed impressed. Wary, but impressed. More reporters chimed in, some asking about Lex, others following Kara's line of questioning, Kal included. Kara continued to listen, but her mind was elsewhere.

She wanted to soar in as Supergirl, accepting the gift Lena Luthor offered earlier, but decided against it for now. Lena doesn't know why Kara didn't call her and Kara desperately wanted her to know why, but she didn't want to reveal her secret in the process. After ten minutes of questioning, Lena thanked everyone for coming, effectively sending everyone on their way. Kara felt Kal tug her sleeve, signaling it was time to go, but she shook him off as she made her way over to the CEO. The raven-haired woman was chatting with a dark brown haired woman with glasses in front of the stage. Kara crossed the pavilion quickly, determined to make things right, and Superman will not stop her. It's common knowledge she could punch his lights out any day and Kal didn't want to push his luck. He hung back and waited to see if there was a need for intervention.

"Okay, is there anything else I can do for you Miss Luthor?" The woman asked.

"No thank you, Jess. I am going to head to the R department." Lena spotted Kara approaching, which the woman took notice of too and offered for security to escort the reporter away.

"No, Jess, that won't be necessary. I know Miss Danvers personally." she replied, a small smile graced her normally schooled features. The woman, Jess, eyed the blonde curiously. To her knowledge, Miss Luthor didn't have many personal relationships. She kept to herself and the only other person she knew of was Samantha Arias. Confused but satisfied by her visual assessment, Jess nodded and scurried off to attend other pressing matters.

Kara reached Lena Luthor near the front of the stage. She could hear her cousin cursing her under his breath and she tried to keep a neutral expression despite his rant going on several yards away.

"Miss Luthor. I had hoped you recognized me." The blonde stated, her ethereal blue eyes twinkling not unlike they did eight months ago.

"I did. And you didn't call. Congratulations on your promotion to reporter, Kara Danvers." the CEO teased. Kara chuckled. She glanced at green eyes and sighed.

"I wanted to, but I lost your number in an accident." she replied. "I haunted that bar for weeks hoping I would see you again." Kara admitted. Her face flushed. "Not in a stalker way. Sorry that sounded so creepy." Lena tilted her head to the side to observe the blonde. There was something familiar about her, something she couldn't quite place and it kept nagging at her subconscious. She wracked through her memories, pictures of Supergirl and Superman from Lex's tedious notes that she promptly destroyed. If Lena could superimpose Supergirl over Kara, she was looking at the same person without glasses. Realization dawned on her face, but the youngest Luthor schooled her features. A tactic she learned in the Luthor manor for self-preservation. Kara shifted under the scrutiny, but didn't run. Admirable. Many people flee from Lena when her face shifts to a neutral look. Granted, none of them are Supergirl.

"That's fine, Kara. I wasn't mad. I hoped you would, but understood if you didn't." Kara was relieved to hear Lena wasn't upset. She had worried she burned her bridges with this one, metaphorically and literally since the CEO's number went up in flames.

"Trust me, I did want to call. I still do." Something else dawned on the blonde hero, "Hey! You called me Kara. Just Kara." Lena cracked a grin. "I am personally glad I know your last name now. I called you Lena No-Surname for longer than I would like to admit." This time, Lena laughed. A deep laugh that caused some of her employees to eye her in concern.

"I wish I didn't have my last name to be frank. The Luthor name is a curse and a burden. I would like to change that. As for your name, it was simply a slip. I could keep calling you Kara Danvers, or…" Lena trailed off, allowing the blonde to dictate the direction. Kara definitely heard the husky undertone the CEO's voice took and despite not being from Earth, she could tell when someone flirted with her or not. The thought of Lena flirting with her made Kara strangely excited. She didn't receive many suitors. Playing the part of bumbling, awkward Kara Danvers tended to put her in the best friend slot more often than not. Not that she minded. She had a city to look after. A romantic partner would complicate many things, but when she looked at Lena, the city didn't matter. And that made her nervous.

"I-um…Kara. Just Kara is fine." she paused, "and don't do a dad joke and start calling me 'Just Kara'. First name basis is perfectly fine. That's if you want to be." Kara stammered. "Sorry, foot in mouth syndrome strikes again." she mumbled, fiddling with her glasses, averting her gaze to a very interesting leaf. Lena cleared her throat to grab the blonde's attention. When blue eyes met green, Lena gave her a gentle smile.

"Foot in mouth syndrome. Interesting. I don't think I will cure that. I happen to find it endearing." Kara's shy smile was an award of its own. It beat out any of her blue science ribbons, the countless trophies, and titles. Kara chuckled. Her eyes turned to the man that was with her. Lena followed her line of sight.

"Forgive me, but I am with my cousin, Clark. He's also a reporter. I promised to get dinner with him while he's in town. May I see your phone?" Lena snapped out of her observation of the man. Deduction suggests he's Superman. Her eyes say he absolutely is. What is with the Kryptonians and their glasses, anyway? She glances at Kara and realizes she didn't respond.

"I'd like to put my personal cell number in there. Save us the trouble of losing numbers." Kara teased, but Lena could tell she was nervous. Lena handed her L-Phone over to the blonde with a reassuring smile. Kara delicately and swiftly inputted her number before locking the phone and handed it back to the CEO.

"Of course. Don't let me keep you. Expect me to text you later and ask about your day." Lena said with a wink. Lena watched as the blonde Kryptonian's pupils dilated. Oh, that is interesting.

"I look forward to it. See you around, Lena No-Surname." the blonde backed away with a teasing smirk, turning on her heel and disappeared around the corner with her cousin. Her very angry cousin.
