I don't own these characters or Supergirl.

AN: For context, this Alura Zor-El is more comic compliant rather than the TV show. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. Just imagine her as an older Kara.

When Kara was 15, Kal came to Midvale during summer break before high school. Kara could hear him soaring overhead before the Kryptonian hero touched down in the backyard. She went outside to greet him.

"How are the glasses?" He asked timidly. Clark wasn't sure how to interact with his cousin. He basically abandoned her for selfish reasons. Kara is family. He should have stepped up and not used Superman duties as a scapegoat. And now Jeremiah is gone because of Kara's gifts. He knew he had to show her the Fortress, to give her hope.

"They work." Her voice was thick with emotion. Her black dress swayed slightly in the soft breeze. Today would have been a beautiful day. Would have, had it not been a funeral.

"Come with me. I have something to show you."

Hidden far from civilization, only accessible to the House of El, stood the Fortress of Fortress was designed from a crystal containing her mother's consciousness. All her memories were in the Kryptonian database along with any knowledge known on Krypton.

Which is where Kara found herself a few days after seeing Lena again. Kara didn't believe in chance encounters. She hardly believed in love or soulmates. Growing up on Krypton, Kara knew marriage as a contractual agreement to benefit her home planet. Nothing more. When she arrived on Earth, the humans married out of love. Love? It was a cocktail of hormonal chemicals and electrical impulses zapping from one synapse to the next. Then Lena came along, challenged what she learned as a child, challenged her views.

In front of her stood a hologram of her mother. The woman she took her looks after. Except her nose. She had her father's nose. Faded memories of her mother telling her she inherited her father's brain and his nose, how the older blonde would trace her finger down the bridge of her nose as she told her this.

"What does this mean, Jeju? Why do I feel like this?" the Girl of Steel asked rhetorically, not expecting an answer, but secretly wishing for one. A wish that came true, even if it wasn't what she wanted to hear.

"I cannot tell you without context, Kara." The hologram replied. The young hero huffed in annoyance, but didn't implore further. Shutting the image down, Kara turned in the direction of National City with determination. Where her journey will take her is unknown, but she wouldn't back away. Not now, not ever.

Lena didn't like to broadcast her intelligence. She has above average IQ, and if her achievements weren't enough to prove that, the way she handled the misogynistic, egotistical shareholders with such swiftness and ease would be enough. After a migraine of a meeting, she returned to her office, coffee in one hand, her head resting on the other.

"Miss Luthor, Miss Danvers is here for lunch." Jess's voice chimed in over the intercom. Lena perked up instantly, the corners of her lips twitching upwards into a shy smile.

"Send her in, and Jess? Make a note that Kara Danvers can come in anytime without appointment. So long as I am not in a meeting." Lena replied. A moment passed by before Jess responded.

"Of course." A second later, it was like a mini tornado of sunshine and pastels came into her office in a flourish. Several takeout boxes stacked precariously on one another obscured Lena's view of the blonde. In an instant, Lena was up, helping with the mountain of boxes. She chuckled, making a mental note that Kara probably ate as much as she did because of her powers.

"Are you trying to feed an army, Kara?" Lena asked with a knowing glint twinkling in her pale green eyes. Kara's face dusted a light pink.

"I have a really high metabolism. Alex swears I have two hollow legs." she offered, albeit embarrassed as she did so. Lena laughed merrily, and for the first time that day, smiled genuinely.

"I'm not one to judge, I practically lived off of coffee and granola bars when completing my PhD." And then Kara offered a brilliant and blinding smile. It disarmed the youngest Luthor, leaving her stunned for a moment. And in that moment, Lena was struck at how devastatingly beautiful Kara is. Her skin was sunkissed. It was a stark contrast to Lena's milky white complexion. It only accentuated her blonde hair and ethereal blue eyes she kept hidden away behind her glasses.

"Let's eat." Kara grinned.

They ate in a comfortable silence. It wasn't forced. Honestly, it felt natural being around the blonde hero. Her companionship was easy. Kara made Lena feel safe and at ease, despite how sudden their relationship had formed. It was like she has known the Kryptonian all her life.

"You know, when I moved in with the Danvers, it was around the 4th of July. My parents died in an explosion. So when they started shooting fireworks off, I panicked and hid under the dining table. I had moved from Russia when I was thirteen to the Danvers. I didn't know English very well and they already had a daughter. Alex has been the reason I am courageous. Even if our start was anything but kind." Kara's face was unreadable, and Lena wasn't sure if she should respond or not. When blue eyes glanced in her direction, the CEO knew she should.

"I am adopted too. Technically. I grew up in Ireland, but my mum died when I was four. My dad wasn't in the picture. It wasn't until later I discovered that I'm Lionel Luthor's bastard daughter." Lena chuckled humorlessly. Her eyes were cold and devoid of emotion.

"It explains why Lionel plucked me from the orphanage. The Luthors don't do anything without gaining anything from it." Lena stared out the large windows to the balcony. A warm hand on her knee startled her from her thoughts.

"You may be a Luthor by name, but you're so much more than that. You're Lena. And what I can see, you're kind, dependable, steadyfast. All great qualities in my opinion." the blonde's blue eyes gazed into jade green ones. They held kindness, lacked judgment. Lena felt her resolve crumble. How can this woman before her be the same confident, strong, impartial hero she's seen on TV?

"You know, Supergirl's DEO minions came by to pick up her suit. I suppose they'd need to test it, to make sure it's safe. I didn't even get a chance to tell your sister that if she presses the crest in, it turns kryptonite inert. The nanobot tech will morph to produce a helmet for maximum coverage and protection. Do you think you can tell her?" Kara's expression morphed from confused, to surprise, to glee.

"You did that for Supergirl?" she asked no louder than a whisper. Lena shrugged.

"Supergirl is loved by someone. It's the least I could do to make sure she goes home to whomever is waiting for her." Kara looked like she was about to cry, and Lena smiled. Supergirl is loved and cherished. Even if Lena won't admit it to herself that the blonde had wormed her way through the walls to her heart.

"I'll let her know." she responded, her voice thick with emotion.

Lunch went by too fast for either woman, and with a firm hug, the blonde was gone, leaving the executive office cold without her warm presence.

AN: Hello! Sorry for the MAJOR delay. I've had quite a hectic couple of weeks and been procrastinating. This chapter is a bit shorter, but it sets up the next scene. :)
