The Emerald Forest, And Meeting Your Partners.
Above Emerald Forest, there was a black bird is flying slowly and magnificently, right up to the moment it gives a final shriek and Ruby crashes through it in a burst of feathers as she plummets downward.
"Birdie, no!" Ruby cries before she fires off a few rounds from Crescent Rose to slow her down, then turns the weapon into its scythe form to catch the branch of a tree in her blade and fall downward at a slower pace.
Weiss, armed with Myrtenaster, summons a white snowflake circle under her and leaps off of it to the forest below.
Ren descends, with Nora Valkyrie briefly being seen next to him at a faster speed, and spins in the air, eventually using Storm Flower's blades to spiral around the trunk of a large tree and hit the ground, brushing off his clothes before looking up to see...
"Woo-hoo! Yeah! Alley-oop!" Yang, soaring right over the treetops, is using her gauntlets and its fiery force to push her through the air further and further north, spinning and laughing with each blast, even when she crashes through the leaves of a tree and leaps off two trunks to tumble to the ground "Nailed it!".
Pyrrha, her weapon in sword form and armed with a shield, crashes through several trees and rolls on a branch, immediately shifting her blade into a rifle and looking through the scope at Jaune as he continues to scream and fall helplessly. Pyrrha coolly transforms her weapon again to its spear form, takes a moment to evaluate her throw, and rockets the javelin deep into the forest until a "THUNK!" is heard.
Jaune called out in the distance "Thank you!".
Pyrrha waves "I'm sorry!".
At the same time all of that was going on, Lucina was falling quickly towards the ground. She focused on her Aura for a bit as she managed to adjust her landing, instead of falling straight down, she was going to go forward. As she got close to the ground, she planted her feet to the ground, causing her to slide for several meters, until she finally came to a stop. For any ordinary person, a landing like that would've torn their feet of. But Lucina's aura protected her enough to avoid a fatal impact with the ground.
While Lucina did that, Lyre was cheering as she soars through the sky. Making no effort to slow her fall she just sunk her clawed gloves in to at tree, sliding around it before landing on the ground "Purrfect!".
Meanwhile, Severa was planing her own landing. She took out her sword, and turned it in to it's shield mode, before using it like a surfboard to slow her fall just enough for her to safely land on the ground, performing a quick roll as she did.
And last, Bernadetta was screaming in utter panic as she was falling towards the ground. With no time to think, she pulled out her bow and fired and ice arrow... which hit the ground and resulted in an ice explosion that somehow created and ice slide. Bernadetta slid down on it, and was sent flying forward... only coming to a stop when she slammed in to someone, knocking them both over.
"Ow... did I survive?" Bernadetta wondered.
"Somehow, yes" Came the annoyed voice of Severa.
Bernadetta gasped and got of her "I'm so sorry! I will just go away and never bother you again!".
"Way to late for that now. Didn't you hear what Ozpin said? First person we meet after landing becomes our partner... look I am not to thrilled about this either, I was planing on partnering up with my cousin, since I know she can keep up with me. But rules as rules. Like it or not, we are teammates now" Severa said as she stood up.
"I'm so sorry for ruining your plans!" Bernadetta said.
Severa sighed "Apologize by proving you are still a decent partner. Anyway, my name is Severa".
"Oh, I am Bernadetta... but most call me Bernie" Bernadetta said.
"Well then Bernie, try to keep up. And try to stop freaking out so much, or you are going to attract every grimm in the forest" Severa ordered as she began to walk.
"O-OK!" Bernadetta said as she hurried to follow Severa.
Severa sighed. Of all the partners she could've had. She ended up with someone who was more timid than a mouse. Being scared out here is a bad thing due to the grimm. Since grimm are described as "creatures of destruction" that lack a soul; hence, they are unable to use Aura. They are also drawn to feelings of negativity, such as envy, sadness, loneliness, hatred and. And they are often congregating on the source of these emotions. They are the darkness of the world, and the best way to fight them is to not be scared of them or given them any other negative emotion to be attracted to.
Back with Lucina, she was walking around until she heard growls. She stopped and noticed several Beowolves show up. Lucina narrowed her eyes and pulled out her sword. The grimm attacked her, but she dodged the first and sliced it in half, before putting her sword in to a reversed grip and stabbed another in the chest. She got ready to face the remaining grimm, before something fast showed up and attacked the grimm, slicing one up tackling another one down, digging her claws in to it's chest. The grimm were soon dead and the attacker was revealed to be Lyre.
The Faunus girl looked at Lucina and smiled "Oh, hello there. So you are going to be my teammate. The name is Lyre! Let's work well together!".
Lucina blinked several times "Ummm, sure. If you say so, I am Lucina".
"Alright, Lucina! Let's find the temple and it's relics, and then we can start our journey to become Huntresses!" Lyre said, full of energy.
"Well you don't lack for motivation, that much is clear" Lucina said, almost overwhelmed by Lyre's intensity.
"Sorry, I tend to be more intense after growing up with a very moody sister" Lyre said sheepishly.
"You have a sister?" Lucina asked, curious to know more.
"I do... but we can talk about that some other time. Maybe after we get to know each other a little better" Lyre said.
"Oh, yes, of course" Lucina said, feeling a little bad that she didn't consider the fact that Lyre was still a stranger to her, so of course she wouldn't be trusted with such personal information "Well, like you said. It's time to go".
"Right! Let's go!" Lyre said as she began marching.
"The Temple is the other way" Lucina said with a deadpan.
"Oh, right" Lyre said a little embarrassed as she walked in the correct way.
Lucina sighed before following her.
In the middle of the forest, Ruby lands in a crouch, then darts off with a single mantra in her mind.
'Gotta find Yang! Gotta find Yang, gotta find Yang, gotta find...' She then began shouting "Yang! Yaaaang!" After receiving no answer she began thinking again 'Oh, this is bad, this is really bad... What if I can't find her? What if someone finds her first? Well, there's always Jaune. He's nice. He's funny! ...I don't think he's very good in a fight, though. Ooh! What about Blake?! So mysterious, so calm... Plus she likes books! Then again, I'm not sure I'd be able to hold a conversation with her...Ugh! But there is also Lucina, she seems nice, strong and I could talk to her... as long as she don't take any more of my cookies. Okay... Who else do I know in this school? There's Yang, Jaune, Blake, Lucina. aaaand...'.
Time seems to slow down as Ruby skids to a halt in front of Weiss as she is turning to face her. She stops just in time for their eyes to meet and a pregnant pause follows. This ends when Weiss turns on her heel and walks the other way.
"Wait! Where are you going?!" Ruby kicks the ground dejectedly "We're supposed to be teammates...".
Weiss is seen struggling through the forest, giving an occasional grunt or "Ow!" as she pushes plants out of her way. She brushes herself off and sighs in relief when she hears a voice above her "Come on, come on! Stupid...!".
Weiss sees Jaune hanging a few feet in the air by the spear embedded in his hood and the tree behind him. As he gives up trying to pull it out, he looks down and sees Weiss, giving an embarrassed wave. Weiss simply heads back in the direction she came from and Jaune groans in dejection.
As Weiss passes Ruby she pulls on the younger girl's hood "By no means does this make us friends".
Ruby was overjoyed as she's dragged away into the bushes "You came back!".
"Wait! Come back! Who's going to get me down from here?!" Jaune called out in dispair.
"Jaune?" He looks down at his savior, Pyrrha "Do you... have any spots left on your team?".
Jaune crosses his arms "Very funny...".
He eventually looks down at her and gives a smile, which she returns. Pyrrha had taken an interest to this boy, so she wanted to be on the same team as him. Still, she hoped her cousin was ok.
As for Severa, she and Bernadetta were currently fighting of some grimm. Said monsters were called Mauthe Doogs. Bloodthirsty demon dogs that attack with keen-edged fangs. While not being as big as Beowolves, they are no less dangerous, and can rip someone apart if they managed to swarm someone, so it was best to avoid being surrounded by them.
Severa cut one down before kicking another away "What are you waiting for!? Shoot them!".
Bernadetta gasped as she quickly used her bow and shot Severa ice arrows in to the Mouthe Doogs heads. She was a surprisingly good shot, if only she didn't freak out every time a situation got a little tense. Still, Severa managed to cut down most of the grimm, while Bernadetta provided covering fire... but as soon as all the grimm were dead, Bernadetta ended up fainting.
"You got to be kidding me..." Severa said as she lifted Bernadetta up "HEY! WAKE UP!".
"AAAAHHH!" Bernadetta screamed as she woke up... accidentally punching Severa out of reflex, making the red head stumble back "I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY!".
Severa rubbed her jaw a little "I felt that... Ok what is your problem? You are an exellent shot with a bow and you punch a lot harder than your small size would suggest. So why are you so scared of everything?".
"I..." Bernadetta began but couldn't find the words.
"If you are so scared of everything, why even bother joining Beacon?" Severa demanded.
"It wasn't my choice! I was forced to come here!" Bernadetta answered, sounding a little annoyed, despite being scared.
Severa blinked before she sighs in annoyance "So my partner for the next 4 years is going to be a scared little girl who doesn't even want to be here. Perfect, maybe you will be good for grimm bait since your fear attracts them like a moth to a flame".
"Or maybe you are the one who attracts them!" Bernadetta finally shouted back "You are always so angry! And that also attracts the grimm! So maybe it's your fault they keep showing up!".
Severa glared and opened her mouth to say something... but she then realized that Bernadetta had a point... she had been unreasonably angry this whole time. And of course that would help attract the grimm. And Bernadetta had more guts that Severa realized, given she was able to speak against her like that, despite being scared.
"Oh... S-sorry, I didn't mean to say all that" Bernadetta said in worry.
"Let's... just go" Severa said in a more somber tone as she walks away.
"I hope I didn't hurt her feelings" Bernadetta whispered to herself as she followed her partner.
Little did she know, Severa's feelings wasn't hurt. Only her pride. She wasn't used to people telling her of, and it made her realize how far behind her mother she really was. Not just as a fighter, but also as a person.
Jaune and Pyrrha are standing at the mouth of a dark cave, where drawings are seen to the side involving armed men against giant beasts.
"Think this is it?" Jaune asked before he makes a torch and they both head inside.
"I'm not sure this is it" Pyrrha said in some concern.
Jaune sighs "Pyrrha, I made the torch. Could you at least humor me for, like, five more feet?".
Suddenly and completely unexpectedly, Jaune trips on the ground, and the torch flies into a small puddle, extinguishing the flame so the two are cast in darkness with only their eyes visible.
"Do you... feel that?" Pyrrha asked.
"Soul-crushing regret?" Jaune asked.
"No, it's... warm" Pyrrha said.
Regardless they continue onward through the cave until they see a large glowing point of gold right in front of them, illuminating Jaune's excited features.
"That's the relic!" He slowly reaches out to grab it, but it moves away from his swipe "Hey! Bad... relic!" He tries to get it again, then jumps forward and hangs onto it as the object raises him above the ground "Gotcha!".
Pyrrha looked worried "Jaune...?".
Jaune's catch lowers itself so he is dangling right in front of the now-glowing red lines and eyes of a scorpion looking grimm, called a Death Stalker.
Back with Lucina and Lyre, they were walking through the forest, and haven't encountered to man grimm along the way. Suddenly they hear a high pitched scream echo through the forest, making both of them jump a little.
"Who was that?" Lucina asked.
Lyre shrugs before she noticed something "Hey look what I found!".
She had seen something that looked like a metal spike. Curious as the cat faunus she was, she tried to pull it free, but it seemed to be stuck. She pulled more and even began using her feet, but the spike wouldn't budge... And she didn't even notice that she was being lifted in to the air, as the owner of the spike stood up.
Lucina got wide eyes "Lyre!".
"Almost got it! Almost... Hold on, why am I feeling warm breath all of the sudden?" Lyre asked before she heard a growl and looked down.
A massive Grimm revealed itself, it had the body of a reptile, with strong white scales going from it's neck all the way down to it's tail. It also had spikes on it's back and head... what Lyre was pulling on... was it's large horn. This Grimm was called Demonic Beast, a truly massive grimm that earned it's name due to being one of the most aggressive and brutal grimms around. As well as one of the most dangerous.
Lyre gulped "O-Oh. H-hello there! Nice weather today, ain't it? Oh, sorry for pulling your horn. No hard feelings, right?" The Demonic Beast growls as it swings it's head around, causing Lyre to be thrown away "Soooooorrrryyyyy!".
"Lyre!" Lucina called after her partner before looking back at the large beast who rose on it's hign legs and let out a loud roar. Lucina smiled nervously before having to avoid it as it came crashing down.
She then had to run away as the large grimm chased her, knocking over trees like they weren't even there. Lucina ran between two large boulders, narrowly avoiding the Demonic Beast's snapping jaws. He growls as it tried to force it's way through the boulders before letting out a another loud roar.
"Crap, crap, crap!" Lucina said as she continued running, but the grimm broke free and as she headed down a hill it chased after her, but it's weight caused it to slide down the hill.
Lucina wasn't able to dodge in time as the Demonic Beast slammed in to her back, causing her to sit on it's snout. When the sliding stopped, Lucina was thrown in to the air, and the Demonic Beast let out another roar, and the sheer force from the roar sent Lucina flying away.
"OH NOOOO!" Lucina screams as she flies away.
Safe to say, this wasn't really what she expected to happen.
.
Well, the partners have met. Bet many were expected Lucina and Severa to become partners, while Lyre ends up with Bernadetta. But I like to subvert expectations.
.
And you might've noticed grimm you don't recognize. And that's because they are monsters from the Fire Emblem series, brought in to this story and turned in to grimm. The Demonic Beast already looks like a Gimm to me, making it perfect for this.
.
Tell me what you think.
