Moments Frozen in Time
Moment Ten: All Might
Kagome woke to the feeling of arms curling around her waist. Warmth spread across her back as she was pulled into the familiar embrace of her husband.
The nights they were able to spend like this were rare. Even more so than the brief outings that they would arrange for during the day. His position at U.A. often made it difficult for them to see each other. They could go days or weeks at a time with little more than texts and phone calls to connect them. So when he was home, she enjoyed every second by basking in the warmth of his presence.
"Tough day?" Kagome kept her voice soft as she spoke.
She felt him press his face into the crook of her neck.
The man gave a low grumble, "Young Midoriya got into a fight with the Internet criminal, Gentle."
She quirked a brow at that, "You mean the one that was posting all those weird videos?"
His growl lowered, "The boy didn't stop to contact a single one of us and didn't answer any of my calls. It was by the skin of our teeth that we didn't have to cancel the School Festival."
A blond brow twitched, "I just wish he would've notified us so we could've handled it."
Kagome allowed a smile to spread across her lips, "Well he is your protege. So of course he's going to take after you."
Her husband paused, "What's that supposed to mean?"
She turned within his grasp and pressed her palms flat against his chest.
"I seem to recall a similar incident where I left my phone at home while we were dating," Kagome began. For a second, she thought she saw the life drain from his eyes. "I was only gone for about twenty minutes but by the time I got back you'd called me about that many times and had knocked over a torii gate in your rush to get to the shrine."
"Please don't remind me. Besides, I said I was sorry!" His expression soured at that, "It's been how many years and you're still bringing that up?"
Her smile widened, "And it'll be ninety more that you'll get to hear it."
She flicked his nose playfully, "Midoriya is just like how you were back then. So you've got to think like you did." Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck, "To keep him from doing something crazy, you'll have to learn how to predict him."
He dropped his head back, "Yeah, I know. I just panicked is all. It's not like him to go silent like that."
Her smile softened, "Because you consider him family."
She curled her legs around his waist, "You know, since you've done everything short of adopting that boy, I think it's high time that I met him."
Kagome cast him a playful wink, "I'd like to see my adopted son at least once before he graduates."
It was a long standing joke between them. Due to his line of work as the number one hero, he wasn't able to have a typical relationship. So while they remained together from high school through college and beyond, they'd chosen to not start a family of their own. It'd been a difficult decision but they'd decided that it would be safer in the long run. Even after retiring, people were still clamoring for the man known as All Might.
"I think that's the second time you've asked," He sighed through his nose. "But it wouldn't be a bad idea. I'll talk to the school tomorrow about bringing him over."
"Oooh, now you are spoiling me." Kagome leaned closer to him, "Spoil me any more and I might just have to give you a reward."
Catching her meaning, she felt his hands shift towards her hips.
"I think I'll take that reward now."
A laugh bubbled at the back of her throat as she found herself flung onto her back.
Even if his form had changed and their time together limited, they were still there. No matter the distance or time that separated them, they would always find a way back to each other.
That was just how it'd always been for them.
That was just how it would always remain.
"Toshi," She lowered her mouth next to his ear. "I love you."
