Moment Twenty-Two: Tenko Shimura (My Hero Academia)
Higurashi Kagome could only stare, her bright blue eyes filled with amusement, at the scene before her. There in the kitchen making a mess was her father, Toshinori Yagi, and her adopted brother, Shimura Tenko.
Both had specks of pancake batter on their faces and down the front of their pink aprons which had cats on them. Arching an ebony eyebrow she let out a small giggle as she approached them, mirth in her eyes.
"What are you two doing in my kitchen and did you really buy matching cat aprons?" Her voice was layered with her amusement.
Both males flushed as she leaned against the island counter, crossing her arms under her bust. It was easy for them to tell she wasn't really mad, but pretending to be just to tease them.
Even though he knew she wasn't really upset, Tenko still lowered his gaze, a flush on his cheeks. "We were trying to surprise you with breakfast in bed and yeah, dad got them for us." He hadn't wanted to wear the overly girly apron but their dad had been so proud when he showed them to him, he couldn't say no to him.
He had after all saved him, found him on the streets and took him in despite knowing why and how he ended up on the streets. He had welcomed him with open arms, bringing him home to raise alongside his only child.
She was a lot like her father, welcoming him with open arms and a gapped toothed smile. She used to live with her mother until she had remarried, even so she had kept her mother's maiden name. The relationship between the two females was still strained to this day. More then once he ended up holding her as she cried herself to sleep.
He mused that it was those times that made him realize the love he had for her was not that of a sibling but that of a man. He'd been struggling with it ever since, the guilt he felt was enormous, he was meant to be Kagome's brother, not her lover. Their father saw them as his children, yet here he was in love with her.
He'd been struggling with it for the past five years. In fact today was Kagome's fifteenth birthday, thus their father's bright idea to make her breakfast in bed. While it hadn't been intentional Kagome had taken up the mantle of being the 'housewife' in their home. She did the wash, the cooking, the cleaning, and the shopping.
Of course he did his best to help her but sometimes he would forget to put on his gloves that stopped his quirk from activating. Thus she often shooed him away when he offered to help and instead settled for just keeping her company as she worked.
Yet today was her birthday and they wanted to treat her to a day of relaxing. So as she arched a raven brow at them he couldn't help but to be flustered.
"Honestly you two...what would you do without me? Starve, that's what." Answering her own question so approached her dad and held her hand out. "Apron now." It was a demand not a question and her father had the decency to look embarrassed as he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
"But Kagome it's your birthday! Let us take on your chores today!" Kagome leveled him with a blank look, her eyes mirroring his own. "Look I know you guys meant well but if I let you do my chores it's going to take me even longer to fix everything." She wasn't trying to be mean but she knew her father and Tenko. They were not made for housework.
She watched them visibly deflate, making her feel bad. "Mm, how about I let Tenko help me and you can be our supervisor?" She smiled as both males perked up, they were both so easy for her to read.
"Great idea my dear! Here!" He quickly handed her the pink apron and took a seat at the kitchen island with a large grin on his face. Kagome smiled as she donned the apron, pulling her waist length black hair into a low ponytail.
Turning to Tenko she gave him a bright smile, pausing to reach out to wipe the pancake batter off his cheek, her finger lingering a second longer then it had to. She couldn't help but to grin as he blushed but settled next to her in front of the stove, watching and learning as she showed him the proper way to make pancakes.
"You know, you two look like newly weds! It's cute!"
Kagome squeaked, almost dropping the bowl of batter in her hands at her father's nonchalant comment, her face turning red.
"Dad!" She huffed as he gave a hearty laugh at the way she flushed, Tenko stood stock still next to her. His red eyes wide open in shock. He merely stared back innocently.
"What? Back in the day families used to adopt the person they wanted their child to marry!" Sure, he hadn't intended on things turning out that way but he was used to rolling with the punches.
Now if only the two teens would just admit their feelings then he could tease them even more! Though he would have to have a talk about house rules with them, he was far too young to be a grandfather.
