Field Trip.

Following the Beacon Dance, it turns out that someone had infiltrated the school while everyone were busy with having fun. However, Ruby was the only one who noticed the intruder and set out to stop them. But she was unable to prevent the intruder's escape, and was caught by Ironwood, making her unable to return to the dance. Inside Ozpin's office, he along with Ironwood and Glynda where discussing what happened last night. And it was safe to say that Ironwood was less than pleased about the fact an intruder was able to sneak in and do who knows what from right under their noses.

"They were here... Ozpin, they were here!" Ironwood said as he angrily slams his fist against Ozpin's desk.

"We're very much aware of that! Thank you, James" Glynda said, annoyed by the General's tone.

"Fantastic! You're aware! Now are we going to do something about it or should we just stay the course and continue to ignore what's right in front of us?!" Ironwood demanded.

An alert sound plays, signifying that someone has arrived on the elevator, so Ozpin stands up "Come in".

Ruby steps out and into the room "Sorry it took so long. Someone accidentally hit all the buttons on the elevator on the way up here" She pauses before quickly explaining herself "It wasn't me".

"Thank you for coming, Ruby. How are you feeling?" Ozpin asked.

"Okay, I guess. I'd feel better if my bad-guy-catching record wasn't O-for-three" Ruby said trying to lighten the mood. Everyone stares at her silently, making her falter in her attempt to be funny and rubs her neck "Okay, so that's the tone we're going for, got it".

"Ruby, I feel it's appropriate to let you know that I think what you did last night is exactly what being a Huntress is all about" Ironwood began as he walks up to Ruby and puts a hand on her shoulder "You recognized a threat. You took action. And you did the very best you could".

"Thank you, sir" Ruby said, grateful for the comment and relieved that Ironwood wasn't upset with her being in the Cross Continental Transmit System Tower.

"Now, the general here has already informed us of the events that... transpired last night, but now that you've rested, we were wondering if you had anything to add" Ozpin said.

"Was anyone else with her? Did she look familiar to you at all?" Glynda asked.

"I... I don't know. She was wearing a mask, and she never said anything to me. But I know she fought with glass. I don't think that was her Semblance, though. Her clothing lit up whenever she attacked" Ruby explained the best she could.

"Save for the glass, that sounds like the woman I fought the night we met Ruby" Glynda remembered.

"Embedding Dust into clothing is an age-old technique. It could have been anyone" Ironwood said, slightly frustrated by the lack of useful information.

"Wait. You think this girl is connected to Torchwick and the White Fang?" Ruby asked.

"It's possible" Ozpin said before noticing a look on Ruby's face "But we still lack the required evidence to link the two together".

"Actually, I... I think I remember her saying something about a hideout, or something, in the southeast. Just outside the Kingdom" Ruby said emphasizing her point by pointing behind with her thumb.

Ozpin smiles "Interesting".

"I thought you said the intruder never—" Glynda began but Ozpin cut her of.

"Thank you for your cooperation, Ruby. Why don't you go and spend some time with your team? You have a big day ahead of you" Ozpin instructed.

"Any time" Ruby said as she began to leave, but was stopped when Ozpin spoke again.

"And Miss Rose, please try and be ... discreet about this matter" The Headmaster ordered.

"Yes sir" Ruby said as she finally leaves.

She headed back to her team, who understandably had questions for her. Back in Ozpin's office, Ironwood was leaning on the window as he and the others processed what Ruby had just told them. If their enemy had an hideout somewhere in the southeast, then they finally have a lead.

"Well there we have it. We send as many troops as we can to the southeast, find out exactly what's going on, and eradicate any forces that stand in our way" Ironwood said in a no nonsense tone.

Glynda growls in frustration "Why must your answer to everything involve a triumphant display of military bravado!? You treat every situation like it's a contest of measuring di—!".

"Glynda!" Ozpin interrupted, stopping Glynda from finishing her inappropriate comment.

Glynda crosses her arms "Well, he does".

"She's right. As much as I too would love to end this situation once and for all, we must remember that this may go beyond Vale. Beyond Beacon. And if this truly is part of some master plan for which we know not the final move, we mustn't be so bold. Nor can we risk the spread of panic" Ozpin said and as he spoke, Ironwood grew more and more frustrated.

He finally walks up to Ozpin "I have served you faithfully for years... but if you mean to tell me that your plan is to really hold the defenses, and wait—!".

Ozpin abruptly stands from his chair, and slightly raised his voice "It is not! You're a general, James. So tell me, when you prepare to go to war, which do you send in first? The flag bearers, or the scouts? And besides, the southeast is not my only concern. I have rechived reports that a particularly dangerous grimm has been sighted not far from Vale. It is getting closer by the day, and if left unchecked, it could become a serious threat. But if this is the same grimm I'm thinking about, then there is only one team I know of who has faced it and survived. And there is only one huntress I know who could help them take it down".

Ironwood looked confused until the elevator came back up and someone walked inside, surprising him "You...".

"Hello James. You wanted to see me, Ozpin?" Came the voice of the huntress.

Ozpin smiled "Indeed, glad you could make it. I have a very important mission for you".

In Team LSBL's room, the team were getting ready for the field trip. Lucina finished putting on her battle outfit, while her team where finishing up as well. Most of them were in a decent mood thanks to the night of fun they had. Even Bernadetta was less shy now.

"Back out in the field after a night of fun and a nice long rest. I'm feeling pretty pumped up" Lyre said as she was slightly bouncing on her feet.

Lucina smiled "Save some energy for the trip, Lyre. But I have to agree, last night was fun, we really needed it".

"Speaking of last night, I saw you dance with that transfer chick" Severa said.

"You mean Cinder? Yeah, she asked for a dance and I saw no reason to say no" Lucina said, remembering her rather intense dance with Cinder.

"Well she is certainly a looker. So I see you have an eye for hot chicks, Lucina" Lyre said with a teasing smile.

Lucina blushed a little "It wasn't like that. I just danced with her to be polite".

Lyre smirked "Sure, you were so polite you even let her hug you. If I wasn't so busy with Weiss, I would've liked to see what happened next. Did she kiss you?".

"Lyre!" Lucina said loudly, growing more red.

"But she does bring up a point, even though she clearly didn't mean to. Did you notice anything suspicious about her?" Severa asked.

"What do you mean?" Lucina asked.

"Don't you think her wanting to dance with a stranger like you is a little bit suspicious?" Severa asked.

Lucina thinks about it "A little bit, sure. But other than being very forward with what she wanted, she didn't do anything bad".

"Why are you so suspicious of her, Severa?" Bernadetta asked.

"I don't know. There is just something about her and her friends that rubs me the wrong way. I can't put my finger on it, but I just feel like something isn't right" Severa admitted.

"Well they are a strange bunch, no denying that. Then again, aren't we a strange bunch too? And I say Cinder is just someone who knows what she wants and don't beat around the bush" Lyre said with a shrug.

"Maybe..." Severa said, but she clearly wasn't convinced.

"You don't think they are dangerous, do you?" Bernadetta asked in concern.

"Calm down Bernie. If they were dangerous, I'm sure the teachers would've noticed that by now. They are just different, that's all" Lucina said, trying to reassure her small teammate.

Suddenly, Glynda's voice was heard over the intercom "Would all first-year students please report to the amphitheater?".

"You heard her, team. Time to go" Lucina said and her team nodded before leaving the room.

Lucina lingered for a bit to think about what Severa said before shaking her head and followed them. She locked their dorm room and began heading down the hallway to catch up with her team. But as she was trying to put her scroll away, she accidentally dropped it. Sighing at how she could be so clumsy, she bent over to pick it up...

"My my, that's quite the view you are giving me, Lucina" Came a familiar voice behind her.

Lucina quickly stood up straight, knowing full well what the person behind her was looking at, and she quickly turned around "Cinder?".

Cinder smiled at her "Hello again, Lucina".

"Why are you here?" Lucina asked.

"Why to see you of course. You are going on a field trip today, right? Wanted to see you before you left" Cinder answered in a calm yet almost flirty tone.

"Th-thanks, but I need to hurry or I'll be late" Lucina said, feeling a little nervous.

"Why of course, I wont keep you. But I do need to ask something of you" Cinder said as she walked up to Lucina and put her hand on Lucina's cheek, making the blue haired girl blush "Please do come back safe. I was serious when I said I wanted to get to know you better".

"D-Don't worry, I'll be fine" Lucina said as she tried to back away from Cinder, but the young woman wouldn't let her as she put her other hand on Lucina's shoulder.

"Good..." Cinder said before leaning to whisper in Lucina's ear "I'll be waiting for you".

With that Cinder let go of Lucina who was now very flustered "R-right! See ya!".

Lucina hurried away, while Cinder watched her leave... with and evil and hungry smile on her face. Lucina really has caught her interest. Little did Lucina know... catching Cinder's interest was never a good thing.

Lucina enters the auditorium with other students and hurries to her team.

"What took you so long?" Severa demanded.

"Sorry... got held up" Lucina said, trying to cool down from her encounter with Cinder.

Before her team could question her Glynda spoke up "Quiet! Quiet please. Professor Ozpin would like to share a few words before we begin".

Ozpin walks up and began his speech "Today we stand together, united. Mistral. Atlas. Vacuo. Vale. The four Kingdoms of Remnant. On this day, nearly eighty years ago, the largest war in recorded history came to an end. It was a war of ignorance, of greed, and of oppression. A war that was about much more than where borders fell or who traded with whom, but about the very idea of individualism itself. We fought for countless reasons, one of which being the destruction of all forms of art and self-expression. And as you are well aware, that was something many could not stand for. As a result, those who opposed this tyranny began naming their children after one of the core aspects of art itself: color. It was their way to demonstrate that not only would they refuse to tolerate this oppression, but neither were the generations to come. And it was a trend that is held to this very day. We encourage individuality, expressionism, and unity through diversity. As I have said, today we stand together, united. But this bond cannot exist without effort. Which is why today, while the rest of the world celebrates peace, Huntsmen and Huntresses will work to uphold it. As first year students, you will be tasked with shadowing a professional Huntsman or Huntress on a mission. Some of you may be taken out of the Kingdom for several days. Others may work within the walls for the rest of the week. But no matter which path you choose, remember to be safe, remember your training, and remember to do your very best".

Ozpin steps away as the students all begin to file out of the amphitheater.

"Alright team, let's see what we have" Lucina said as she walks up and checks one of the screens "Hmm, that's strange. Looks like we already have an assignment. We are going to hunt down and kill a different type of grimm".

"What? Don't we get to pick what we want to do?" Severa asked.

"Normally yes. But I figured you four would be the perfect ones for this mission" Everyone turned and saw Ozpin.

"Headmaster Ozpin? You are the one who put us on this mission?" Lucina asked.

"Yes, sorry I did not inform you earlier. I could not risk a less qualified team going on this dangerous hunt" Ozpin answered.

"What makes this grimm so special that you wanted us to hunt it specifically?" Severa asked.

"I am not certain yet. But if this grimm is what I think it is, you four may be among the few huntresses who has ever faced it and survived" Ozpin said, making the team look at each other "But do not worry. You will be accompanied by one of the best huntresses I know, so I am confident you all will be perfectly safe".

"If you say so..." Lucina said, still confused.

"Good luck. Now I need to make sure Team RWBY do not break the rules" Ozpin said before he walks away.

"Any idea what that was about?" Lyre asked.

"Beats me" Severa said.

"Oh no, I really don't want to go" Bernadetta whined.

"Relax Bernie. Remember what he said, we are going with one of the best huntresses around. I'm sure everything will be fine" Lucina assured.

"Well no point in standing around. Let's go" Severa said, earning nods from her teammates and they headed out.

Once outside, the team were on their way to the airship that will take them to their destination. On the way they encountered RWBY.

"So, you girls got you mission?" Yang asked.

"Yeah, we are going grimm hunting" Lucina said.

"So are we... and we hope to learn more about what Torchwhick is planning" Ruby said.

Suddenly a student runs past the teams "Hey! Team CFVY is back!".

Beacon students gather around to witness the return of Team CFVY. But something was wrong. All of them looked really down. Like something really horrible had happened.

Blake hurries up to Velvet "Velvet? Are you okay?".

"I'm fine. I had Yatsuhashi to look out for me" Velvet said as she motions to her very tall teammate.

"Your mission was supposed to end a week ago! What happened?" Weiss asked.

"Nothing happened. It was just ... there were just so many..." Velvet said as she down for a moment, but when looks up she notices the younger Teams' worried expressions "Oh, but don't worry. You first-years are just shadowing Huntsmen, so you should be fine".

"Right" Yang said.

"I should go. Be safe, okay?" Velvet said as she began to leave.

Lyre puts a hand on Velvet's shoulder "Are you sure you're ok, Velevet? All of you look so gloom. Even Coco wasn't smiling".

Velvet gently removes Lyre's hand and holds on to it "I'll be fine, Lyre. Don't worry. Just be careful out there".

With that, Velevt walks away. Leaving the teams to hope Team CFVY would be alright.

Ruby decided to speak up to lighten the mood "We can do this. We've never backed down before, and we're not going to start now".

Blake nods with a smile "Right".

"Besides, it won't only be us out there! We'll be fighting alongside a genuine Huntsman!" Ruby added.

"Yeah!" Yang agreed.

"Wonder who we will be going with" Bernadetta said.

"You will be going with me" Came a female voice behind them

Everyone looked and who they saw made them very surprised. It was a young woman, who didn't look much older than a newly graduated student, her hair looked like a small mix between green and light blue and her eyes looked indigo colored, though it was hard to make out. She was also wearing an outfit that would earn the looks of both boys and girls alike... And they knew who she was. Ozpin was not joking when he said one of the best huntresses would go with them.

"Wait... you are..." Lucina trailed of.

The woman smiled "Hello kids. My name is Byleth, and I will be in charge of you during this field trip".

.

And Byleth joins the story. I went with Female Byleth mainly because that was the gender I picked for my first playthrough of Three Houses.

.

Tell me what you think.
