Chapter 5

Movie Night

Angela was not outside Bells' house as she was every Wednesday.

I had sent her several messages and she had not responded, so after fifteen minutes of waiting, I decided to go to the door.

I pressed the doorbell several times. I couldn't tell if Bells was home, since there was a garage, it was always hard to guess.

After ten minutes of insisting. Angela parked behind my car and came with Eric; my son immediately ran to me.

"Hi champ" I held him with me and my son hugged me tightly. I looked at my friend and she seemed a little overwhelmed. "Why is Eric with you?"

"I'm sorry I didn't answer the messages," she apologized, and I noticed the grocery bags she had with her.

"Mommy is sick," Eric spoke, gaining my attention.

I played with his hair and tousled it with my fingers as he laughed.

"What's wrong with Bells," I asked my friend.

Angela adjusted the black frame of her magnifying glasses that slid down the bridge of her nose.

"She's a little under the weather," she said. "She's... well, Bella's not doing well."

"What's she got?"

"A bad flu, you know how her defenses tend to go down when..." she kept silent as she bit her lower lip. "Do you want to come in?"

I sighed.

Before I was tempted to go inside I decided to walk to my car.

"We're going for pizza and we're running late," I said the worst excuse.

"Okay, Edward," Ang exhaled. "Have fun."

At the pizzeria Eric kept mentioning Bells.

He explained to me in his short words that he had seen her vomiting and crying on the toilet. That she had snot running out of her nose and was just shaking on the bed, that he had even covered her with the Batman blanket.

"Why does Mommy cry so much?"

Eric's cheeks were splattered with ketchup.

"Maybe she has a headache," I explained as I gently wiped his cheeks. My son frowned and gave me second thoughts. "Eric, does Mommy go for a walk by herself?"

I knew it was mean to use my son, but I was extremely interested to know what Bells' routine was like when she wasn't in her role as mommy.

She was beautiful in every way and not only that, but smart. Maybe her personality was one of the reasons she was so besieged by the male guild.

"No," he shrugged, "we always go together."

"You must take good care of her, Eric. And shower her with kisses, okay?"

I wanted to tell him to give her the kisses I couldn't give her. After a long sigh, I preferred not to say more.

"Grandpa Charlie says I'm the man of the house."

"And he's right."

My boy took a long sip of his juice.

"Daddy, when are you going to live with us?"

"That's not going to happen, champ. Remember I have one house now and you have two houses."

He watched me curiously as he continued to sip from the straw and his cheeks sagged. Suddenly he spit some juice on the table.

"Would you like to watch a movie with me?"

I smiled. He was speaking so fast that his pronunciation wasn't the best.

"Of course."

After seven o'clock in the evening, Eric came running into the house. He did it so hard that he threw the door open, and I saw Bells lying on the couch.

Startled, she sat up, dropping the Batman blanket on the floor. She looked haggard and her nose was red.

"Daddy and I will watch movies!" he exclaimed to Bells, showering her with kisses.

Bells gave me a sad look and stood up lifting the blanket.

"How are you?"

She sneezed.

"A little sour, but I'm fine. How are you?"

"Fine," I replied tersely. "I'll just watch a movie and go."

She started sneezing and coughing at the same time and didn't answer but slipped into the room.

"Here, Daddy," Eric patted the couch in front of the TV. "It's called Paw Patrol."

I sat down next to him. It was all so strange; the comfy couch, the huge screen that I clung to buy and that provoked some arguments with Bells.

It was a real movie night where we ate treats to our heart's content and Eric fell asleep in my arms.

As I left him in the room I shared with Bells, I saw her small body shaking under the covers.

Bells had a fever. I made sure as I touched her face and she shivered.

"Wake up," I whispered, moving closer to her face. "You have a fever; you must take something."

Her teeth chattered incessantly as she shivered.

"Bells, wake up," I insisted, moving her body slightly.

It was that one of her hands captured mine; her skin was extremely hot.

"Forgive me, Edward..." she mumbled in unconsciousness, "I love you."

Well… let me assure you that we're getting closer to discovering what happened between them. As for now, the story has 35 chapters, and all are quite short so… I'll update 3-5 chapters each time
