Chapter 7
Office
A few months earlier….
"Have you seen what a nice ass James has?"
I rolled my eyes. Jessica had no tact in expressing herself, she didn't care if she was being listened to.
James's face reddened completely as he walked past our table. And how could he not? Jessica hadn't stopped harassing him since he joined the company.
"You should keep your comments to yourself," I said.
"I don't have to," she replied cynically, "can you imagine how he must move? Wow, I love that guy, he's stupidly hot. He must be a stud when he's fucking."
I pursed my lips. I was really embarrassed by her vocabulary.
"Jess shut up."
The blonde leaned over my shoulder and whispered:
"Haven't you ever thought about giving yourself a break with someone?"
Offended I immediately turned and faced her blue irises.
"You idiot! I'm married and very much in love with Edward."
"Isabella don't be boring," she teased. "I mean, imagine enjoying the bed with someone else just for a few minutes, it would be glory. What do I say glory? heaven itself!"
"You knew you were too stupid to express yourself," I said. "I'm not just anyone, Jess. I don't have to look for what I have at home."
I pocketed my cell phone and stood up. James smiled at me, and I was only polite and smiled back. After a few light sips of coffee I decided to leave the coffee shop with Jess walking beside me.
"Isabella, tell me, what number do you give your husband in bed? I mean, compared to some others you've had."
I narrowed my eyes. If she knew I had no reference at all… My Edward was the only man in my life.
I had lost my virginity to him when I was eighteen. Just two months into our relationship, it happened in the back of his car.
I laughed to myself.
It had perhaps been the least romantic and most awkward experience, but he took great pains to bring beautiful new moments in our intimacy. He was a crazy romantic who always accomplished what he set out to do and I loved him for it.
At twenty-eight I couldn't imagine my life without my boys.
"That damn laugh of yours."
I snapped out of my musings as I focused on Jess's shrill voice.
"What are you talking about?" I asked embarrassed.
Surely my cheeks were red as I reminisced about such good times.
"So others have fucked you better than your husband?" she insisted.
I shook my head, shaking my head.
"I think we'll be working together tonight," James muttered, interrupting, and walking up beside us. He had easily caught up with us.
"No, I can't," I replied. "It's my husband's party and I have to be there early."
"How strange," he said. "Eleazar explained that it was my turn to work with you to help me with the mercantile operation," his shoulders squared before he continued walking ahead of us."
Jess nudged me just as James left our sight to go into the restrooms,
"He likes you," she whispered amidst applause. "He doesn't know how to get close to you and he's so dumb he'll make up any excuse to talk to you, he's a sweetheart."

I had given James the briefest summary of how we worked at the shipping company. He picked up on it right away and I thought that was all we would be doing for the rest of the afternoon, however, Eleazar, our boss, put us in roles that did not pertain to our area.
I nervously looked at my watch. I was two hours late.
[Why aren't you here?]
I read the message quickly and put the phone aside, concentrating on the laptop screen.
I had over twenty unanswered messages and calls from Edward. I knew what each one would generate for me, but I couldn't stop. I needed to finish my work and get to his birthday party.
"Isabella," I heard my boss say, he leaned over the desk, his black eyes sparkling fire. "You have a call from your husband," he handed me the phone and I looked at him with my eyebrows close together. "Your husband is impatient because you don't answer his calls and messages."
I mumbled an apology to Eleazar.
"Edward..." I barely uttered and he interrupted me.
"You're not coming, are you?" his voice was cold.
"Of course I will," I whispered down the line, turning my back to James and Eleazar as they looked at me expectantly. "I'm finishing a few things, just give me a few minutes."
"This time will be the last time, Bells. If you're not here in half an hour, you'd better not come."
I bit my lip hard.
"I'll be there, love," I promised.
He snorted loudly.
Edward was too angry to listen to me. After ending the call, I turned to the two men in my office.
"I need to leave," I spoke as I gathered my things from my desk and placed them in my briefcase.
My boss nodded slightly.
"Your husband should respect your work schedule," he said.
"My work hours were supposed to end two hours ago," I clarified. "It's normal for him to be upset."
"When you got the promotion, I told you what it was about," Eleazar added. "That's why I hired James to work as a team for the company. I want you guys with me 100 percent. And keep your problems out of my business."
I barely managed to give James a brief glance and a pat on Eleazar's arm, and I was out of there almost running.
.

.
I hit the steering wheel when the car wouldn't start.
I was still in the desolate office parking lot and Edward wasn't answering my calls, I was starting to get impatient. I had to call an uber.
The sound at the window alerted me and my cell phone fell from my hand, it was James.
"Do you need help?"
I nodded.
"I need to get to a bar."
His smile spread across his lips as his eyebrows arched. It was useless to hide my smile, he had a funny gesture.
"It's my husband's party and I need to get there," I added.
"Okay, I'll give you a ride," being a gentleman he opened my car door, helping me out.
I know that this is probably not what you expected, but it is necessary for the story. Thank you for reading
