Harry and his new friends Hermione and Ron exited the train at the foot of a large crag in the Scottish Highlands. The rails had entered a narrow valley that had a river running alongside of hem for many miles. The river emptied into a dark foggy lake that sat around the base of the crag coiling like some ancient dragon Harry thought.

The eerie glow that emanated from the castle balanced the moonlight to cause bits and pieces of the structure to flicker in and out of sight. At least Harry hoped it was the lighting that was causing the unnatural sense of unreality he was feeling.

The castle looked like it had grown over the thousand years of its existence. With bits and pieces of each era sticking out in odd yet balanced angles. Filling the entire crag and spilling over it with a small keep at the base of the crag alongside the water's edge.

Harry felt Hermione grasp his arm tightly as a large imposing figure lumbered towards them out of the shadowy gloom. The chill air causing their breath to steam almost as much as the engine of the train they had ridden.

"Ello Harry." Hagrid's grinning face was revealed by the lantern he lofted above his head, "Glad to see you made some friends."

The giant man turned and bellowed for first years to come to him for the journey to the castle. Harry smiled as he felt safer and better with the kindly giant leading the way, and his friends on either side. He did not mind that Hermione had not let go of his arm yet either.
