CHAPTER 3
*Leah*
Startled, he clamped his hand over my mouth, pushing us both further into the shadow of the ship. Looking over I saw him looking up above us. Listening carefully, I could hear someone walking across the roof of the crashed ship. How could I have missed that? They're right above us and I completely missed it, was I that distracted? Did he distract me that much?
We stayed there until they walked away. I could hear Jack looking for me now, the moment was ruined.
With one last smirk at me, he stalked back out into the light to where Johns had the battery cell waiting for him. I wandered back over to Jack.
*Riddick*
Dragging the cell across sand was more annoying than anything else. The sun was beating down harshly on all of us and majority of the group had started complaining. Great!
I could see her just ahead of me, away from Johns, good. I suppose there is one benefit of dragging the cell at the back of the group, great view. The heat couldn't be good for her, I need to find water and shelter soon. Where are these thoughts coming from? A few days ago, I wouldn't of cared about anyone but myself. Survival, nothing more, nothing less. I suppose that's what happens when you meet your mate. My focus and attention were completely on her.
A glass bottle fell and slid down the sand hill to stop at my feet. And the skittish man follows desperately, trying to retrieve his possession before it reaches me. Ha, tough luck. Picking it up, I made eye contact with her. I'd give it to her, but for some reason she had a thing about alcohol. She already declined it from the others, but it was more than that, it brought bad memories out. I'll have to touch on that when we get out of here.
"Paris P. Ogilvee, antiquities dealer, entrepreneur "
Smirking, I reached my hand out to him, I love these types. All you had to do was smirk and they turn jumpy.
"Richard B. Riddick, escaped convict, murderer"
It was a shame to miss out on a lovely liqueur. So, I drained the last drop.
*Leah*
The village (if you could call it that) didn't inspire confidence. Deserted years ago, it looked as if everyone had left in a hurry. What happened here? Did they find the things under the ground? Or was there something else to worry about? Something we hadn't thought about yet?
Some of the others were trying to get a water filter to work, in this heat that would be our life saver, or at least give us more time to get off this retched planet. I'm sure Fry and Johns were busy in the skiff, whispering away. Riddick and I were wandering around looking at buildings. I could hear the kids following us (or more particularly, Riddick) across the rooftops. In such a short time frame he had become their idol, ha ha, bet he loves that.
Footsteps proceeded Johns coming around the corner.
"you're missing the party, come on boy" He said to Riddick, as if he were calling a dog. I growled lowly at Johns in response.
Riddick pulled the tarp off showing Jack to the world
"You're missing the party, come on"
Walking past me he gave me his trademark smirk hearing me growl at Johns, causing me to flush pink in embarrassment.
He always causes these feelings in me and these growls, I just can't seem to help myself.
We all congregated in a small room filled with rock samples. Imam had found some glasses so we could all have a drink of water. I was dying for a drink, picking up a glass I went and found a seat near where Riddick was loitering. And in walks Jack.
Smirking, I turned to see Riddick's reaction of his little mini me. Of course, nothing but a raised eye brow from him. It was absolutely adorable. Yes, I know that it's dangerous for Jack to get this attached. But I couldn't help it, she was too cute.
"it's the winner of the lookalike contest" says Paris, snorting quietly to myself.
I turned toward the others, paying attention to them now.
"Nice of them to leave so much stuff here" yes, it's just lovely, we get to see a snap shot of our future. Thanks
"why'd they leave their ship?"
"it's not a ship, it's a skiff, and it's disposable really" Johns sounds like his trying to reassure himself more than anyone else
"You leave skiff's lying around?" I questioned John's. Although he ignored me. hmmmm
"it's more like an emergency life raft" sighing, I turned away from them. If they're not going to pay attention to me…
"Yeah, they probably had a big drop ship take them off planet"
"These people didn't leave, come on. Whatever got Zeke got them, they're all dead" I snorted, leave it to Riddick to shove the obvious under everyone's noses.
"You don't really think they left with their clothes on hooks, photos on the shelves"
"Maybe they had weight limits, you don't know" I know I could smell the fear on her.
"Are you losing it?" I questioned her
"I know you don't prepare your emergency ship, unless there's a fucking emergency"
"he's fucking right" hmmm perhaps this mini me thing isn't such a good thing after all. Although we are all going to die soon anyway so, perspectives I suppose.
"Watch your mouth"
"Hey, he's just saying what we're all thinking" I really don't like her.
"So, what happened? Where are they?"
"Has anyone seen the little one? Ali?"
"Has anyone checked the coring room?"
There was a blood chilling scream that made us all jump up running towards the coring room. I was up and running before my brain caught on to what I was doing.
Johns shot the chain off and we pushed the doors opened. Next thing I know I'm grabbed from behind and shoved behind what I now realise is Riddick. They come screeching out, forcing us to back out. Riddick stood his ground protecting me. The Holy Man has made his way inside, on his own and without realising it I'm breathing quickly and clinging hard onto the back of Riddick's shirt.
