Where Are They Now – Nami
/Somewhere High Above The Seas Of The Grand Line/
When Nami first came to, she honestly thought she was dead. The place she'd woken up was a far cry from anywhere they'd been before on their journey, it almost did look like heaven.
But then her mind recalled another place that was somewhat similar, another place that seemed to look like heaven.
Skypeia, the Sky Island above Jaya.
It didn't take Nami long to figure this out and once she did, she immediately began piecing together the similarities and differences between the two.
Where Skypeia was stagnated due to the more tribal centric culture, and then due to Enel and the Thunder Titan's influence, this place was highly futuristic. It was a dozen smaller clouds connected to a massive central cloud; houses situated on top of the outer clouds with the centre possessing a giant futuristic looking machine.
The denizens were equally as different, all being old men dressed up like Wizards from a storybook, complete with stereotypical robes and pointed hats. She swore she actually saw a few black cats as well.
Initially, Nami was hesitant to approach the denizens of this Sky Island, her experiences with the last one at the forefront of her mind. But once she actually saw what these people were capable of doing … that had her attitude changing pretty quickly.
These people could use technology to bend the weather to their will.
Being a Navigator, this technology intrigued her to no end. To see these people being able to flip a switch and generate rain, snow or severe heat and reverse it back as they pleased … she needed that tech.
And so, she did what her epithet as the 'Cat Burglar' bade her to do … try and steal the technology for herself.
It went over about as well as she could have expected in hindsight.
She first broke into a few houses to test security and found them to not even lock their doors. She would have called them foolish, but they did live on a Sky Island and had a tight knit community so it made sense.
She then waited until nightfall and broke into the place they store their food, again, not triggering any kind of security measures at all. This was more puzzling as it would make sense to lock it to avoid anyone being greedy and having more than their fair share.
This led her to the conclusion that these people had no concept of crime up here, that they couldn't even comprehend someone taking extra food or stealing from someone else. It was like crime didn't exist to them.
With that in mind, she walked right up to the giant weather machine at the centre of the central Sky Island and tried to enter … only to be immediately frozen from the neck down as alarms started blaring across the Sky Island.
Which leads to the present, Nami being cuffed in a rather lavish jail of sorts that looked more like a house than anything else. She had been dragged here by many of the locals and locked in where their supposed leader would decide her fate.
A rather tall old man wearing a blue robe and pointed wizard's hat came through the front door, startling Nami out of her musings. The old man looked at her for a moment, his eyes seemed to be surprised at what he was seeing, almost as if he did not believe she was actually there.
"Oi Oi Oi Oi Oi Oi Oi … I had assumed Cael conjured you up to justify his faulty alarm system, yet here you stand … a Blue Sea Dweller," the old man muttered as he stroked his impossibly long beard that almost hit the floor. "Who are you girl?"
"My name is Nami …"
"Nami," the old man repeated slowly, as if testing the name. "How did you get up here on our Sky Island? We have not set down for almost half a year now to resupply, so there's no way you could have snuck on back in the West Blue."
"I didn't sneak on here, I only arrived here about three days ago …"
"By what means," the old man asked curiously, not showing any sign he believed her or not.
Nami then proceeded to tell the old man about the events of Sabaody, about everything that led her here. The old man's expression did not shift at all throughout her tale, seemingly reserving any response for after she finished.
"And that's basically what happened," Nami sighed. "I suppose I should apologize for trying to steal your weather tech, I just haven't seen anything like it before, it's brilliant."
"So, you were sent here by the power of a Devil Fruit, your friends being flung elsewhere … How interesting," the old man muttered softly to himself. "Under normal circumstances, I'd just call you crazy and dismiss what you are saying, but I can tell you aren't lying. The way you speak, the conviction in your eyes, the firmness of your tone … I believe you."
"Thank you."
"I'll let you free on one condition Nami," the old man continues with the orange haired teen nodding slowly in response. "I want you to apologise to the others for giving them a fright."
"Umm … Sure, that sounds fair to me."
"Good. We are old men, Scientists," the old man replied as he uncuffed her. "Most of them were fearing we were to be attacked so it would go a long way to apologize."
"Don't worry, I'll apologize Mister …"
"Oh, right, I haven't introduced myself, have I," the old man replied quickly before stroking his beard again.
Chief Scientist Of The Weatherian People
A Master Of Weather Manipulation
Mayor Of Weatheria
Haredas
"Well, its nice to meet you Mister Haredas, sorry again for what I did …"
"Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey … I do not believe in holding grudges Nami. So long as you apologize to the others and promise not to try steal anything else from us then I consider it water under the bridge," Haredas replied with a small smile.
"Don't worry Mister Haredas, I'll definitely apologize for what I did and definitely won't steal anything else," Nami responded with a slight sigh.
"Excellent. Then that means you can be released from our jail, though its not like you have anywhere else to go for the moment so I suppose we could use this place to house you for the time being?"
"Thank you, Mister Haredas, that's really kind of you, considering what I was going to do …"
"We all make mistakes Nami, don't worry about it," Haredas replied with a wave of his hand. "Though I'm curious, would you still like to see inside our machine and learn a bit about this place?"
"I would, yes. What is this Sky Island, I've only ever been on one other one before and it looked nothing like this one?"
"Really? You have been on another Sky Island?"
"It was a place called Skypeia," Nami replied with Haredas nodding immediately.
"Ah yes, that is a rather large Sky Island compared to ours," Haredas explained as they walked outside. "You see all the miniature clouds tied to this one? They are artificially created Sky Islands we made using our science!"
"You artificially created Sky Islands," Nami gasped, having not conceived such a thing. "Wow, your technology must be impressive!"
"It is. We reverse engineered it from the technology at the centre of our great machine, something we found long ago when we first came to this Sky Island," Haredas explained as they walked toward the machine. "It appears that long ago, there were others who sought to manipulate the weather and they had constructed a rudimentary device that could make the weather change briefly. We built upon that foundation, thus forming our home of Weatheria."
They walked inside the machine, Nami momentarily flinching as they entered as if she was about to get blasted by ice again. Sighing once she made it inside, they walked down a long corridor with many of the old men tinkering about until they reached a door.
"Peer through the window Nami and you can see the initial device from which all Weatheria's technology is derived!"
Nami nodded and peered through the window, seeing a strange metal sphere that appeared to pulse and beat like a heart. She squinted and could just barely make out writing on the plaque beneath the device.

Room Two
Object: Heart Of Meteorokinesis
There were clearly other things meant to be on the plaque, but they appeared to have been damaged or faded over time. She could tell a side plaque that had been severely damaged was something meant to describe the device and another was meant to say something else and had a piece of some kind of emblem on it, though it was severely damaged.
"So, you just found this place and that device was here?"
"Yes."
"That plaque in there says Room Two on it, so where are the other rooms?"
"That we do not know I'm afraid," Haredas admitted. "When we arrived here, that one room was all that existed at the centre of this Sky Island, everything else was natural."
"So, you're telling me that you all just started messing with weird tech you guys found on a Sky Island, not even knowing a single thing about where it came from?"
"In our defence, we are scientists," Haredas replied quickly only for Nami to shake her head with a sigh.
"Honestly, no one knows how to be safe anymore, do they? What if that thing had caused the end of the world when you switched it on?"
"We knew it wouldn't, the manual said it wouldn't."
"…"
"What?"
"There's a manual for this thing!?"
"It is rather old and we cannot understand all of what it says, because it is in a language we don't recognize. But the symbols pointing to corresponding weather effects were enough to give us a start. We now know exactly how to use that machine."
"Can I see this manual," Nami asked curiously, wondering what this mystery language looked like. "I have a few friends who know a whole bunch of languages and I've seen a lot of them so you might get lucky and one of them might be able to read it."
"Of course, the manual is in my home, let us go and find it," Haredas said as he and Nami left the machine and went back to his home which doubled as the Town Hall of sorts.
Haredas moved toward his bookshelf and withdrew an old, black book from it and passed it to her. Almost immediately, she could tell that this book was made by a group that did not want random people reading it.
It was an intimidating black colour with white lines across it. Eyeing it further, she was surprised to see she could read the white fine print at the top.

CLASSIFIED
Reading the 'CLASSIFIED' part, she knew this device belonged to a serious organization, but she still chose to open the book regardless since it seemed like they were long gone.
"Hmm …"
Her eyes read the first line of page one, the language seeming familiar yet she couldn't read it herself.
"I've definitely seen Natsu, Seilah and Mordred reading stuff in this language," she mused. "I can't remember what they called it though …"
"You know people who can read this language," Haredas gasped in shock. "Would it be possible to have them translate this text!?"
"I don't see why not," Nami replied with a shrug. "I'll just have to get back to my friends first."
"Then in the meantime, perhaps you'd like to study the weather with us," Haredas asked curiously. "I can tell you find our machine and technology interesting, even if you judge our methods on creating said technology."
"Hold on … you'd actually offer to let me work with you on that thing," Nami asked as they walked back outside to stare at the machine. "Isn't that a little TOO generous?"
"Perhaps. But remember Nami, we are scientists and as such we know that sometimes when one introduces new stimuli it can produce a new result. What that result ultimately becomes, what fate we befall as a result of it and what discoveries actually are of note … all are desirable outcomes."
"Really?"
"If we can help just one struggling kingdom in the future by using our science and technology to stave off drought, flood, blizzard or any other kind of natural disaster … it would all be worth it in the end, even if we died as a result."
"Wow," Nami muttered as she looked toward Haredas. "You are a rather selfless guy, huh? Most would just want to make something like this to either use as a weapon for themselves or sell it to someone else to use for profit, not actually use it to help people. You know the World Government will probably come after this device if you ever did manage to get it to work as you want it to, right?"
"That may indeed happen one day, and we will do all that we can to ensure they do not gain access to it, even if it means destroying it," Haredas replied firmly. "We know they would use it to further grind the population into subservience by unleashing the horrors of nature upon resisting lands. Believe me Nami, we know and understand the full scope of what we have here, the consequences of what could happen should our device fall into the wrong hands."
"Well, as long as you understand that, I don't mind helping you guys out with this device," Nami said with a small smile. "But what exactly do you expect me to do, I'm not exactly a scientist?"
"We do not require another scientist Nami, what we need is a person skilled with knowing the weather," Haredas replied as they began walking toward the machine again. "You said you were a Navigator for your ship and that you'd gotten your crew through some tough times on the Grand Line, a place notorious for random and chaotic weather changes. We need someone like you to help us test our device, someone who can predict future weather before it happens so we don't make mistakes."
"Well, that makes sense. I am skilled at doing that, but surely one of you guys is a good weather analyst too, right?"
"Not to the degree you would be Nami. You have real, practical experience in the field, we are a bunch of old men up on a cloud who study weather. Sometimes, experience trounces data and this is one of those cases."
"I see. Alright then Haredas, I'm in!"
"Excellent! Then how about we test a device right now!"
"Right now? Okay, what are we testing," Nami asked curiously, but also somewhat cautiously.
They made their way back into the main building where the large device was but instead of going down the main corridor, they turned into a side room where a large lab was located. They walked to the end and to a large room filled with strange gadgets and gizmos of which Nami had absolutely no clue of their purpose.
"Wow. Can all these do weather manipulation?"
"They can indeed," Haredas replied with a nod. "The left section is for devices we've tested that are failures. They either don't work, don't do much of anything or are far too dangerous. The wall on the right is devices we've tested and know that work perfectly to what we designed them for-."
Haredas paused and picked up what looked like a regular garden hose attachment that would change the water into various streams when the nozzle was rotated.
"Take this for example. This device can be used like an ordinary garden hose without actually needing to draw from a direct water source. Instead, it draws from the water in the air all around us in a safe and natural way. Basically, it is recyclable and permanent water as you can spray it on something, it evaporates then you can use it again in an eternal cycle."
"What!? But that could benefit drought stricken countries," Nami gasped as she took the device from Haredas and sprayed it in the testing zone. "And you guys made this from that massive machine down the hallway!?"
"That we did. However, we have not released it yet because it requires a local test to see what many devices across an area would do to the local climate in the long term. One might prove beneficial, but imagine one hundred of them, or a thousand, all located in a single area?"
Nami understood what Haredas was saying. It would undoubtedly mess with the natural cycle that worked to form rain clouds if too many of these existed. Although, there were certainly other ways she could see this kind of device being integrated.
"I get what you're saying, but what if you had a device that could generate rain clouds?"
"We actually do have one of those," Haredas replied as he took the hose back and put it on the shelf before walking to the middle set of shelving. "This middle area is our current projects board. Things were are currently working on or that we feel we must complete."
Haredas then picked up a fire extinguisher and handed it to Nami.
"This is our rain cloud generator device."
"…"
"What?"
"It's a fire extinguisher."
"It was a fire extinguisher, now it's a device that blows out clouds."
"…What?"
"Come outside and see for yourself," Haredas said as they both walked back outside and into a small open area designated as a testing zone. "Just aim the nozzle up in the air and use it like a regular fire extinguisher."
Nami nodded and did as Haredas instructed, shocked when a fully formed white cloud started to come out of it. She held the trigger for about thirty seconds before stopping, now gaping at the sizeable cloud right in front of her.
"Impressive, isn't it?"
"I can't believe this," Nami said as she touched it, her hand going through it, becoming wet. "It is a real cloud! Haredas, why is this still in the testing section, you can make actual clouds from nothing!?"
"It remains there because whilst yes, that is a real cloud, we cannot seem to be able to form one that has the capability of raining on demand. If we can create a setting where it can form rain clouds, we can essentially end the concept of droughts forever as well as release several of our other devices such as the infinite water hose you saw inside."
"That's amazing," Nami muttered as she pondered the possibilities. "I'll definitely help you guys out; this stuff is just … gah, I can't even find better words but it's amazing!"
Haredas chuckled as he stroked his long beard, watching as Nami poked and prodded the cloud. Little did he know however that she was thinking about other things, like how she could use this technology to better help her friends.
In her mind, as a Navigator, she'd struck gold. She would learn all she could from these scientists and perhaps they might even let her build devices to help her friends. But, even if they didn't let her do so, she could still potentially help a lot of people, so she was sold on the idea.
"Alright Haredas, let's get to work," Nami grinned as the old man chuckled, the pair walking back into the large building as they spent the rest of the day tinkering.
Hope you all enjoyed and I'll see you in the next one!
