AN: Sorry that this took so long. Midterms and all. Also this chapter was going to go into the sorting ceremony but then it started getting too long so I'll make that a separate chapter and it'll be posted soon.

On the Hogwarts Express

As the Hogwarts express pulled away from the station, Jazlyn and Harry sat down across from each other. Jazlyn felt a rush of excitement and was bouncing in her seat ready to talk to Harry about it when the compartment door opened. A red-headed boy their age stood at the door and looked between the two of them.

"Would you mind if I sat here?" The boy said. "Everywhere else is full."

Jazlyn and Harry both shook their heads and he sat down next to Jazlyn. Jazlyn noticed that he glanced at Harry before quickly looking away. She also noticed that he had a little smudge of dirt on his nose and wasn't sure if she should point it out. The compartment door opened and the two twins from before appeared again.

"Hey Ron," one of them said. "Listen, we're going to the middle of the train if you need anything. Lee Jordan's got a giant Tarantula that we'd like to see."

"Alright," the boy, Ron, nodded.

"Oh and Harry," the other twin said. "I'm not sure we introduced ourselves. We're Fred and George Weasley. And this is our little brother, Ron. And you are?"

He looked pointedly at Jazlyn.

"I'm Jazlyn," she replied. "Can I come with you to see the tarantula?"

The Weasley twins shared a look of surprise and looked back at her.

"Do you honestly think you'll be up for it?" The twin who had asked her for her name shrugged.

"Is it poisonous or could it kill me in any way?" She asked.

The twins shook their heads. So Jazlyn hopped off her seat and pushed passed the twins out the door.

"Well are we going or not?" She said. The twins shrugged and led her down to the middle of the train.

"You never specified," She said as they walked down the train corridor. "Which one of you is Fred and which one is George?"

"Oh we didn't, did we?" One twin said before looking at his brother. "I'm George."

"And I'm Fred," the other one said.

She looked between the two of them completely unimpressed.

"Let me guess. You're Fred," she said pointing to the one who called himself George. Then she pointed to the one who called himself Fred. "And your George."

"Merlin," The one Jazlyn identified as Fred said, "why bother asking if you're just going to ignore us and mix us up anyways?"

"Why bother answering if you're just going to try and trick me?" She shot back.

"And now she's accusing us of lying, Georgie," George said.

"Maybe because you are?" She rolled her eyes.

"What makes you think you're so clever?" Fred said.

"My brothers are twins," Jazlyn said in a matter of fact tone. "They do the exact same thing."

"Alright, fine. you're right I really am George," The real George said.

"But by tomorrow you'll mix us up anyways," Fred added with a shrug.

"I bet I won't," Jazlyn replied confidently.

"Ooo we've got ourselves a cocky little first year, George," Fred said. "Alright then 5 sickles says you will. We wouldn't want to break your pockets."

"5 sickles for the both of you?" Jazlyn asked.

They both nodded together. She shook both their hands to seal the deal.

"It's not my pockets you should be worried about breaking." She smirked and pushed passed them into the door they had stopped in front of.

The compartment was over crowded with loads of students trying to get a look at the tarantula. Students were squealing and taunting each other. Fred let out a loud whistle and the compartment quieted.

"Alright you lot," he said.

"Move aside," George continued.

"We've got ourselves an ickle first year who thinks she can handle the giant tarantula." They finished together.

Fred pushed the crowd through and made a path for Jazlyn as if she were the main event. He bowed mockingly as she passed. But she didn't dare falter. Spiders were not something she was afraid of. The boy, who Jazlyn suspected was Lee Jordan and that was previously the center of attention, carefully lifted the lid of the large box he held in his lap. Immediately the tarantula darted out of the box in an attempt to escape. Most of the students shrieked and fled while a couple of them drew their wands, including Fred and George. Jazlyn however calmly and quickly bent down and scooped the giant bug up. She let it crawl up her arm and rest itself on her head. The twins, and the remaining occupants gaped at her.

"Blimey, Fred, George," Lee Jordan said. "Where'd you pick up this one?"

"In a compartment with Harry Potter and our brother Ron," George replied casually.

Immediately the compartment broke out in whispers and Jazlyn fixed a fierce and protective glare on her face. She whipped her wand out and waved it between the whispering students. The spider that still sat on her head made her look even more fearsome.

"He's my cousin and if any of you bother him or gawk at him you should know that my uncle taught me a few hexes that I'm not afraid to use on you." She warned. The whispering students all nodded.

"Alright shows over," Lee approached her and carefully lifted the tarantula back in its box. "Run along."

Several students grumbled and soon all that was left in the compartment were the Weasley twins, Lee Jordan, Jazlyn, and two other girls.

"You know, you're quite the first year," Fred stated. He indicated for her to join so she did. He introduced her formally to Lee Jordan and the two girls, Angelina Johnson and Alicia Spinnet.

They all started quizzing her about herself. Jazlyn shifted uncomfortably whenever a question came up about her surname or her father. She simply attempted to avoid those questions. Eventually George and Angelina noticed her getting uncomfortable and would change the subject or interject with their own questions until Lee and Fred caught on.

Soon enough the compartment door opened and another girl came in. Jazlyn recognized her as Katie Bell.

"I heard you tried to get a tarantula to attack a first year," Katie said, "but now that I know who the first year is I feel like it was the other way around. Hey Jazzy! Glad you could finally join us at Hogwarts."

Jazlyn grinned up at Katie as she came and sat down next to her.

"Hi Katie!" Jazlyn said.

"We didn't set a tarantula on anybody," Fred defended.

"She's the one who insisted on seeing it!" George added.

After a moment they looked between the two.

"Wait a minute! You two know each other!" They exclaimed together.

"Of course! My dad works with her mom sometimes," Katie replied casually. "Besides Jazzy should've been in my year."

"That's what I've been saying!" Jazlyn exclaimed.

"And just why is that?" Fred asked.

"I'm 12," Jazlyn said. "Not eleven."

"Today's her birthday," Katie elaborated at their confused faces. "Missed coming with me last year by one day. Oh that reminds me, Happy Birthday!"

The rest of the compartment joined in wishing her a happy birthday. Which also included Fred and George Weasley singing a birthday song to her about being one year closer to her grave like it was a funeral March. Charming.

Jazlyn decided to stay in the compartment with the Weasley Twins and the others. She found out that they were all third years (except for Katie who was a second year) and that the twins, Alicia, and Angelina were all on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. After talking a little longer, Katie left to be with her own friends. In the early afternoon a woman with a trolley cart full of treats came by. Jazlyn ended up buying quite a few things for everyone (even after they insisted she didn't need too).

Then Neville Longbottom came in looking very distraught.

"Jazlyn!" Neville said. "There you are! Have you seen Trevor?"

"Trevor?" Angelina Johnson asked. "Is that a friend of yours?"

"Not it's his toad," Jazlyn answered. "And I'm sorry Nev, I haven't. You lost him already?"

Fred, George, and Lee started snickering when she said it was a toad. Jazlyn glared at them.

"Yes!" Neville whined. "Gran is going to kill me when she finds out."

"You're better off without it, mate," Fred said.

"And why is that?" Jazlyn challenged.

"Because it's a toad," George answered as if it were obvious.

"So?" Jazlyn asked haughtily. "I have a toad."

The boys all gapped at her.

"Why would you get a toad?" Fred snickered.

"Why wouldn't you?" Jazlyn fired back.

"Touché," Fred replied approvingly.

Jazlyn stood up and grabbed Nevilles arm. "Come on. I'll help you find him."

She left the third years' compartment dragging Neville behind her. They walked through each compartment asking if anyone had seen a toad. Most people said that they haven't. And some people jeered at them unkindly.

They had been going along towards the back of the train. When they opened the door to a new train car Jazlyn saw the familiar head of bushy brown hair from the girl she had met at Madam Malkin's surrounded by a pale blonde boy her age and two large bodyguard looking boys. She unfortunately recognized them too. Her eyes darkened quickly.

"Get out of my way, Mudblood," the boy drawled as if he owned the train.

Jazlyn was quick to whip out her wand.

"Scourgify." She yelled. Draco Malfoy's mouth filled with pink bubbles and he started to choke on them. The two large boys looked around fearfully. Hermione also turned to see who the attacker was. Jazlyn moved forward and grabbed Hermione's arm. She pulled Hermione behind her.

The door to a nearby compartment opened up. And an older girl with a prefect badge pinned to black and blue robes came out.

"What is going on here!?" The girl exclaimed. She waved her wand and cleared the bubbles away from the Blonde boy.

"She cursed me!" He cried pointing at Jazlyn. "She tried to kill me!"

The prefect girl looked over at her. And Jazlyn shrugged innocently.

"I'm a first year. I don't know any spells," she lied easily. "We just came through the door to find my friend's toad. But we did pass by a couple of boys trying to clean a mess in the next car, they must have missed and hit this boy on accident."

The prefect girl seemed to accept this and walked into the next car to warn the made up students to be careful. Draco Malfoy glared at her.

"How dare you!" The boy said. "Do you know who I am?"

"I know exactly who you are, Malfoy." Jazlyn glared back. "And I would watch your mouth if I were you."

Malfoy sized her up before his eyes seemed to click in recognition. He glared back at her.

"Defending mudbloods, Black," Malfoy jeered. "Tch. Your father would be disappointed in you."

"That's kind of the idea," Jazlyn drawled back. "But I'm sure your father is quite proud of you, isn't he?"

"You better watch yourself, Black," Malfoy said. "You should know that these freaks are beneath our kind. Wouldn't want you making friends with the wrong sort."

"I know exactly who the wrong sort is, Malfoy." Jazlyn stared at him darkly. She felt Hermione tug on her arm again.

"Stop it," she said in a bossy tone. "You can't fight on the train."

"Better listen to the mud—" he was met with Jazlyn's wand pointed at his nose. One of the large boys tried to grab Jazlyn's wrists but she side twisted and elbowed him away.

"I wouldn't finish that sentence unless you want a repeat of earlier," Jazlyn warned. "And you should know that I know quite a few other spells."

Malfoy stared at the end of the wand still pointed at his nose. He grabbed his two friends and pulled them away, muttering about how Jazlyn was as crazy as her father. She tried to ignore that comment. Perhaps she went too far.

"You cursed him," Hermione exclaimed accusingly. "He'll tell the professors when we get to school and you'll be in trouble."

"He deserved, Hermione," Jazlyn said. "He called you a, well, I can't repeat it. But you know."

"A mudblood?" hermione said questioningly. "What does that mean? It wasn't in any of the books I read and you didn't say anything about it anytime I called over the phone."

"It's a foul word for someone who is a muggle-born," Neville quietly supplied. He had come closer as soon as Malfoy and the others left.

"Wizards like Malfoy and his family use it because they think they're better for being pureblood." Jazlyn said.

"Like you?" Hermione said. She recalled Jazlyn saying she was a pureblood when they met in Diagon Alley. She knew that Jazlyn grew up in the wizarding world. That was why Hermione had called her almost everyday since they met with questions she had about the books she read and about the Wizarding World.

"Well I'm a pureblood yes," Jazlyn answered awkwardly. "But I certainly don't think that makes me better than everyone else."

"But you already know so much!" Hermione exclaimed. "And you can already do magic! I've been trying to practice all summer with the spells from our books to catch up but I've barely been able to do it!"

"That's just Jazlyn, though," Neville said in a nervous voice. "I'm a pureblood too. But I can't do magic like that yet."

"I'm also older than most first years," Jazlyn started to explain. "We can start controlling our magic at age 11. That's why most Hogwarts students start when they are 11. But with the way the year starts at Hogwarts, some people start school later than most. Like me. I'm 12 as of today."

"I turn 12 in a couple of weeks," Hermione said.

"And you've been able to do some spells right? Have you noticed any control of your accidental magic?" Jazlyn asked.

"Yes I've been able to do some things and I've been trying some spells in the books so I could catch up." Hermione replied

"Right. See you've had more control since turning eleven. It's probably why you've been able to have control over your wand and practice spells without any instruction. I had my uncle start teaching me things (without my mother knowing of course) after he caught me trying to steal his wand last year to do magic on my own. Most families, like Neville's, don't do that. And I really can only do a couple of spells successfully. Probably the same as you if you've been practicing too. I certainly struggled to master using a wand at first and still have difficulty doing some of the spells in our books. My cousin who only turned 11 in July and is a first year too, couldn't control his magic as much as I could until recently."

"Isn't that a bit unfair though?" Hermione asked.

"I guess, it could be seen that way," Jazlyn said. "But not necessarily. Like I said, I can't do many spells. You'll see when the school year starts in classes, you'll probably do better than me."

"And I can't do anything," Neville supplied.

"Yet," Jazlyn added for him.

Hermione didn't seem like she believed Jazlyn . but she still relaxed a little bit.

"That boy, Malfoy," Hermione started. "Called you Black. Is that your surname? I've read that name before. Quite a few times actually but I can't exactly remember where?"

"It's an old wizarding family. You probably would've read it in loads of different places. I think a distant relative was a Hogwarts Headmaster." Jazlyn said quickly and dismissively. She shared a nervous glance with Neville. Then quickly changed the subject. "This is Neville Longbottom, by the way, I should have properly introduced you two. Neville, this is Hermione Granger, I met her when we went school shopping this summer. We are looking for Neville's toad Trevor. You haven't seen a toad on the loose, have you?"

Hermione hadn't. But she thankfully forgot to ask Jazlyn more about the name 'Black' and quickly volunteered to help. Jazlyn thought it might be a good idea to split up. So she turned around and ran to the front of the train to start looking.

When she was far enough away from Neville and Hermione and found herself alone in a train corridor. She stopped to let out a shaky breath. She brushed away the tears that tried to spill out as she thought of the things Malfoy said about her father and about Hermione saying she read the name. She probably had read about Sirius Black either from the books she had collected on the Wizarding War, or from some muggle news. He had killed 12 muggles after all. If Jazlyn remembered quickly, they claimed that He had caused nearby gas pipes to explode. When Hermione figured out exactly where she had heard the name Black and who her father was, she'd probably hate her and want to stay as far from her as possible. Jazlyn wouldn't blame her if she did.

She kept herself distracted looking for Trevor the toad. But to no avail. Eventually they were nearing Hogwarts and Jazlyn stopped searching and changed into her robes. When she spotted a dejected looking Neville she tried to reassure him that they'd find his toad eventually.

When they arrived, they followed the crowd out to a small platform. There the giant man Jazlyn and Harry had met at Diagon Alley stood gathering the first years. It was when they crowded around him that Jazlyn met up with Harry again.

An: If your waiting for more Jane and Sirius. Fear not I will switch every few chapters to her perspective. But you might want to pay attention Jazlyn's storyline too. ;)
