Chapter 4: Movie Night

"Alright, are you guys ready to watch some of the greatest movies this one planet Earth has to offer?" Sonic asked as he leapt onto the couch, squeezing between Tails and Knuckles as he held a large bowl of popcorn in his hands.

Tails nodded excitedly. "You bet!" He smiled, taking a handful of popcorn and stuffing it in his mouth.

"I am indeed curious to see what kind of entertainment on this planet is like." Knuckles stated, eating some grapes.

Tom let out a chuckle as he pulled Sonic and Tails into his lap, earning a startled laugh from both of them. "Well, get yourselves comfortable, boys, 'cause it's going to be a long night." He then turned to Sonic with a weary eye. "No 'Speed', tonight."

Sonic's face fell. "What?! It's the greatest movie ever! Tails and Knuckles have gotta see Keanu at least once!" He cried dramatically. "C'mon, Dad!"

"Who is this 'Keanu' you speak of?" Knuckles asked, leaning against Maddie as she scrolled through the TV.

"Only the greatest action movie star of all time!" Sonic exclaimed before turning to his parents. "We gotta at least show Knuckles and Tails one of his movies! Pleeeease?"

Maddie chuckled. "Maybe someday, but for tonight, why don't we go with something a bit more… classic." She then scrolled down until the marker rested on 'Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope'.

Sonic's eyes immediately lit up. "Oh, yes! Next best thing! I love Star Wars!"

Tails and Knuckles both glanced at their blue hedgehog brother in confusion. "'Star Wars'?" They both asked.

"What's that?" Tails asked curiously, shuffling in Tom's lap closer to Sonic.

"Oh, nothing much. Just one of the most iconic franchises ever!" Sonic explained giddy. "Trust me, you'll love it."

"Very well. Then let us watch this 'Star Wars'." Knuckles declared while Maddie pressed the play button.

Once the Twentieth-Century Fox logo had played (to which Sonic jokingly sang along, much to Tails, Tom, and Maddie's amusement while Knuckles simply rolled his eyes), the screen went completely dark for several seconds.

"... Hey, did the TV turn off?" Tails asked, tilting his head in confusion, shifting around in Tom's lap.

"Don't worry, bud. It's all part of the movie." Tom smiled, fondly ruffling Tails' bangs, earning a few surprised giggles from the little fox.

Just then, a short sentence of blue text appeared on the black screen.

"'A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. Dot. Dot. Dot." Knuckles read the text with squinted eyes before the text faded.

Sonic grinned, struggling to keep himself from laughing as he nudged Tails with his arm, getting the fox's attention.

Tails watched curiously as Sonic held up three fingers before counting down. Three. Two. One.

Suddenly, the screen lit up with a vast sea of stars as the backdrop for the main title. Loud drums and numerous instruments echoed through the room as it cut to the main title of 'Star Wars'.

The sudden and loud music caused both Tails and Knuckles to jump, the young fox almost falling out of Tom's lap while Sonic laughed along with Tom and Maddie.

As the opening crawl passed by, Tails and Knuckles quickly noticed something a bit off about it.

"Why does this one say it's episode four?" Knuckles questioned.

"Yeah, are we viewing these out of order?" Tails also asked.

"Eh, kinda. It's complicated." Sonic explained while Maddie paused the TV. "See, the original trilogy, these movies, came out first. But then they made a whole prequel trilogy so they had to renumber them." He then quickly interrupted Tails and Knuckles before either of them opened their mouths. "Now, I know that probably sounds confusing but trust me, you don't really need to watch the prequels to understand this movie."

Tails sighed in relief. "Well that's good." He said.

"So, are we gonna keep watching or what?" Maddie asked, holding up the remote.

"Yes, Mother. Let us continue." Knuckles nodded.

Maddie had to hold Knuckles tightly in her lap when the stormtroopers attacked as the echidna warrior claimed he needed to 'save the little men in the tiny box'.

As the battle on screen continued, a certain imposing and intimidating dark figure stepped aboard the ship, much to the surprise of Tails and Knuckles. His mechanical breathing sounding from his mask and echoing through the corridor of the ship sending chills down the fox and the echidna's spines while Sonic himself looked giddy, practically bubbling with excitement.

"Woah…" Tails gasped, staring at the dark figure with wide eyes. "Who is that?"

"That, my fluffy little bro, is Darth Vader!" Sonic said, practically geeking out at this point. "Only one of the most badass villains ever!"

"Language." Tom lightly scolded, though he and Maddie were quite amused by the hedgehog's excitement.

"Hmm, still, you are correct, hedgehog. This 'Darth Vader' character is most certainly the villain. A diabolical fiend if I ever saw one." Knuckles stated, folding his arms over his chest.

Sonic and Tails both winced as they watched Vader choke out Captain Antilles, the squelching sound of the dark lord of the sith crushing the captain's windpipe making them feel more than a little frightened.

"Yeesh, he doesn't mess around, does he?" Tails asked, feeling slightly fearful of the dark lord.

"Nope." Sonic shook his head, still grinning ecstatically. "And I love it!"

The family of five continued watching the movie with only a few interruptions. Said interruptions being whenever Tails pointed out or criticized the inaccuracies about technology.

"How is it R2 and that other droid haven't been turned into scrap metal from the crash?" Tails questioned skeptically. "In fact, how is the escape pod still intact?"

"Well, it's an escape pod, so…" Sonic said, waving his hand in a so-and-so gesture.

"They literally fell from orbit!" Tails exclaimed exasperatedly.

"It's just a movie, bud." Tom chuckled, finding his youngest son's fussing rather amusing as Tails folded his arms, pouting adorably.

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles watched the screen intently as Ben Kenobi took Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, and C-3PO to his hut, telling the young Skywalker about his father before he stood up.

"Which reminds me, I have something here for you." Ben stood up and walked over to a large wooden chest, opening it and rummaging through it. "Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it." He said before pulling out a small metal tube. "He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did."

After Luke allowed Threepio to power down, he stood up, gazing at the tube curiously. "What is it?" He asked, tentatively taking the proffered tube in his hand, feeling its weight.

"Your father's lightsaber." Ben explained. "This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon for a more civilized age."

Luke pushed the button on the handle, causing a long blue beam of light to shoot out into a sort of blade, the device emitting a loud humming sound that overpowered any other noise in the room.

"Oooooh!" Tails gasped, stars practically shining in his eyes as he gazed completely enamored upon the weapon onscreen.

Knuckles gave a stiff nod, showing clear interest in the lightsaber. "I have seen weapons like that before, but not in that style." He said. "I remember I hired a group of hunters who wielded such weapons before I came to Earth."

Sonic whipped his head towards Knuckles, mouth gaping. "Lightsabers are real?!" He screamed, jumping to his feet, startling the echidna as well as nearly hitting Tom in the nose.

"Oh, this I have to make!" Tails exclaimed with a giddy smile, grabbing a pen and paper on the table and jotting it down.

"Uh-uh. You are not making a lightsaber." Maddie said sternly, shaking her head.

Sonic and Tails both groaned in disappointment. "But, Moooom!" Tails whined, his ears folding down.

"C'mon! Imagine how cool having a lightsaber would be!" Sonic said exasperatedly.

"Sorry, buddy. But we don't want you slicing holes in the house again." Tom told them.

Sonic and Tails both huffed as they sat shoulder to shoulder, pouting immaturely. "Party poopers." Sonic grumbled.

"Yeah, you guys are no fun!" Tails added, equally grumpy.

As they continued watching the movie, it was very clear that Tails and Knuckles were very clearly enjoying the film as much as Sonic was, watching each scene of the movie with great interest.

Knuckles seemed very intrigued by the concept of the Force, even going so far as to compare it with his, Sonic, and Tails' own powers, or as it was otherwise known to him as the 'Chaos Force'.

Tails, while still sometimes criticizing the physics of the movie, couldn't deny that he was fascinated by some of the technology in the movie. Even wondering if he could recreate parts of it.

Sonic, who had already seen the movie, was just having the time of his life. Especially since he had his brothers to enjoy it with him as well.

And during the entire attack on the Death Star, Sonic and Tails were practically bouncing in their seats. So much so that Tom had to hold them down a bit. And when the planet-destroying space station was finally blown up, Sonic and Tails were cheering loudly, laughing and hugging like they had actually won some major battle themselves.

By the time the credits were rolling, Sonic and Tails had somewhat settled down.

"So, what'd you guys think?" Sonic asked his brothers inquisitively.

Tails was bouncing on the balls of his feet, his twin namesakes wagging as he smiled brightly. "It was amazing!" He exclaimed ecstatically. "I mean, a lot of the effects are outdated, the depiction of the technology is inaccurate most of the time, and its depiction of the galaxy is also mostly inaccurate. But there was also a lot of great production value, likable characters, and good writing. Overall, I loved it!"

Knuckles nodded. "I couldn't have said it better myself."

Sonic laughed, wrapping his arms around his brothers' shoulders and pulling them close. "Well, then I bet you'll be excited for the next one!" He said.

Tails nodded eagerly. "You bet!"

"I too am curious to see how this story continues." Knuckles stated.

"Well, you'll have to wait, because it's bedtime and you all have school tomorrow." Maddie told them, shutting off the TV before picking up Sonic and Tails and carrying them upstairs to their room while Knuckles went down to his room in the basement.

Once she had taken them upstairs, Maddie gently placed Sonic and Tails into their respective beds.

"Love you, boys." Maddie smiled, giving the hedgehog and the fox a respective kiss on the forehead.

"Love you too, Mom." Sonic and Tails both said as they snuggled into their beds.

As soon as Maddie left, though, however, Sonic and Tails were already up again.

"You're totally gonna make those lightsabers, aren't you?" Sonic asked, getting out of his bed and zipping over to Tails', sitting down next to his fox brother.

"Totally." Tails smirked, earning a laugh from his big brother.

"But, seriously, it was really fun watching that movie with you, bro." Sonic said, his happy expression softening.

Tails' smirk melted into a soft smile. "I really enjoyed it too. I've never had anyone watch anything with me before back in my village." He said emotionally, playing with his gloves a little.

Sonic continued to smile as he wrapped an arm around Tails' shoulder, pulling him into a half-hug. "Well, now you do." He said cheekily, causing Tails to giggle cutely.

Tails nuzzled his fluffy cheek into Sonic's shoulder affectionately, smiling happily. "I've got the best family in the world, heck, the whole galaxy!"

"And we've got the most fluffy and adorable fox in the whole universe." Sonic added affectionately, settling his chin on Tails's forehead.

They stayed like that for a few minutes before pulling apart. "Want me to sleep with you, tonight?" Sonic asked.

Tails' eyes shifted away as he thought about it before he looked back to his big brother. "Sure." He smiled with a nod.

Sonic nodded back with a smile before wrapping his arms around Tails and pulling him back onto the bed, earning a surprised squeal from the kit followed by a laugh.

Tails snuggled into Sonic's chest while the hedgehog pulled the blanket over them, the two brothers getting as comfortable as possible before they were eventually out like lights.

Tomorrow would be a new day.

And the Force would be with them. Always.
