Hi all, first of, thank you so much for the comments. To answer your question, I imagined Froslass (the specific one in the story) to be the soul of a specific woman who died long before the events of DPPt. I am planning on having a chapter dedicated to her backstory but the gist of it is that I think of all the ghost types as the souls of people and Pokemon who died but did not "cross over the rainbow bridge" and, for some reason, are stuck in the world of the Pokemon universe. Given how important mythology is in these three specific games, I think that this theory for their existence falls within the plot points. But, like I said previously, Froslass (and some other Pokemon) will have a chapter dedicated to how they came to be (I am also a big fan of mythology haha so it will be heavily incorporated in my story). In this chapter, I will gloss over how I think Froslasses come to be in general.

Second of all, I do apologize for this long break in writing this story. I was having severe writer's block and wasn't happy with the way my chapter turned out. I finally started working on it again but tested positive for COVID a couple of days ago. On Monday, I lost my sense of scent and along with it started having brain fog. On top of that, my laptop's charger broke and I've been using my phone's charger to charge it (which takes forever to even get past 10%... It's probably not the best idea but don't have many options right now). I have an idea where to go past the moment where the chapter ends though and I hope to update it soon.

I hope you enjoy this chapter :^)

Celeste wandered around the Obsidian Fieldlands, this time trying to enjoy the scenery. Apart from occasional Pokemon attacks and fights, Hisui was quiet and calm. She decided to walk with Oshawott out of his ball to train him. Thankfully, Oshawott was very friendly and pretty easy to train. She remembered five Eevees that she had when she was younger; she enjoyed spending time with them. They were eager to please and caught onto commands fast. Snorunt on the other hand… was a bit more difficult. Apart from having a lot of attitude- and randomly attacking her mother's Garchomp- she would run away when scared. Thankfully she matured a lot after evolving, but Celeste was still pretty annoyed with her behavior when she was younger.

But Oshawott was incredibly easy to handle and care for. He eagerly attacked nearby trees, allowing various items to fall. On an occasion or two, different colored Burmies would fall out of the trees. She used some to train Oshawott while catching others to fill in her Pokedex. She was pretty proud of her progress. She completed her entries for Oshawott, Bidoof, Starly, Shinx, Wurmple, Silcoon, Eevee, Zubat, Kricketot, Burmy, Geodude, Pichu, Abra, Buneary, Cherubi, Psyduck, Combee, Drifloon, Paraas, Magikarp, Happiny, Machoke, and, of course, Froslass. Anytime she saw stronger Pokemon, or ones much larger than what she was used to, she made sure to quietly leave the area. Oshawott wasn't ready for alphas yet and, in all honesty, she wasn't either.

But, more importantly, she finally got to enjoy the Hisuian scenery. She finally understood what it was that her great-grandmother was so fascinated with. She saw plants that were surely extinct in Sinnoh. Upon entering the Fieldlands, she was first greeted by a pack of Bidoof. The small Pokemon ran up to her eagerly and she petted them while Oshawott clapped its paws eagerly. She continued down a beaten down trail while Starlies flew away from her. An Oran Berry tree grew near some tall grass.

The phone rang again and she looked at the message that popped up- Use the Azure Flute to call Lord Wyrdeer to your service.

Right. Mai gave her a flute. But she called it the Celestica Flute. Whatever, she figured she knew what Arceus was trying to tell her.

She took the flute out and thought for a moment. Mai didn't actually say what she had to play, but surely grandma Caly taught her a piece that would work. Sure enough, after trying different pieces, Wyrdeer ran up to her, ready to carry her around the Hisuian plains.

The party ran over a small, wooden bridge. "Don't let your guard down!" a Galaxy Team member warned her. She rode past Kricketots and a trail full of Geodudes. In the distance, there was a dark field with purple streaks. Celeste shuddered, remembering the energy beams that Giratina released back in Sinnoh. Was he doing the same here in Hisui? Is that why she was sent here?

She rode closer and closer to the energy field. The sky became darker and rain started falling. But as soon as she approached it, the field disappeared.

Must be one of those space-time distortions that everyone is talking about, Froslass muttered, Maybe you can use it to get back home?

Celeste glanced back at Oshawott, who cowered in fear and seemed uncomfortable with the idea. She decided to continue with her travels.

She came across a Kricketot, which Oshawott now easily defeated. After it was done, the small water-type glanced back at Celeste with gleaming eyes.

"You're ready to evolve?" she asked encouragingly, "Go for it!"

Of course, evolving is a physical, spiritual, and mental change that Pokemon experience. All Pokemon that change this dramatically need to be a certain age before doing so. This is Pokemon-dependent, but the general trend is that the longer the average life span, the longer it takes for the Pokemon to be "mature" enough. On top of that, some need special items. For Snorunt to evolve, Celeste needed a Dawn Stone, which was theorized to "awaken" the soul of the Pokemon that it is used for. For example, the spirit of the woman who died and ultimately became Froslass was trapped in the body of Snorunt, who was physically very limited. Touching the stone allowed the soul to become stronger until the Pokemon took shape that is comfortable for it. Kirlias work a little differently. Researchers theorize that these intelligent Pokemon have both an anima and animus; that is, a masculine and feminine soul. When evolving naturally, even for male Kirlias, the feminine soul ultimately dominates, resulting in the shape known as Gardevoir. But, when exposed to the Dawn Stone, the masculine soul is prioritized, resulting in Gallade.

The girl frowned. How long was she missing again? Her semester at Canalave must be almost over. Right. The university. It's not like she would have passed anyway. She missed so many days when she was walking aimlessly around Sinnoh and now she's completely gone; vanished into thin air. Still, she missed attending her lectures, especially Dr. Akagi's. Sure, the man is terrifying and has done questionable things, but he sure was intelligent and knowledgeable. Not like he would ever see her as an equal anyway.

But still, evolution is a fascinating field. She was somewhat familiar with Oshawott biology: they generally evolve as they age and get stronger. She just has to make sure he's comfortable and has enough food and energy. But does this mean that this evolution line has a short life span overall? Or maybe it spends most of its life as Samurott.

The small water-type seemed to really like the taste of Oran Berries so she gave it five berries. The Pokemon eagerly munched them down and she looked around, hoping to set up camp. Right. She didn't have anything to set it up with. Even though they called themselves explorers, the Galaxy Team didn't supply her with a tent or food or even water. If she wanted any of that, she needed to return to an official Camp set up by Rei and Akari. She frowned. What kind of an expedition wouldn't give its members the basic-most needs?!

She sat down next to Oshawott and stroked its soft fur. Froslass floated around her, keeping guard. Finally, Oshawott started stretching. In a blink of an eye, he appeared to become bigger: his white fur turned blue and white whiskers grew out of his snout.

"Dewott!" Celeste said, taking out the paper Pokedex that Professor Laventon gave her.

She wrote down her observations on a random right-sided page and left the left side for a photo that the professor will take once she sees him again. She frowned; it seemed strange that he wanted her to fill in the Pokedex yet refused to give her her own camera. Surely it would be more efficient for her to take all the pictures? That way she won't need to catch every Pokemon. She can just take their pictures out in the wild, out in their natural habitat.

After Dewott formed, the party continued until she got to a Bibarel dam. Noticing that the Pokemon was much larger and had glowing red eyes, she crouched down, trying to walk around it. Smaller Bidoofs happily walked up to her and chattered. She picked up her pace and tried shushing them but, no luck. The Bibarel noticed her.

"Great. Good job," she snapped at the wild Bidoof.

Wi-wooo! a Bidoof responded.

"Alright, let's get this over with. Go, Dewott!" she said and the newly evolved Pokemon ran up in glee.

The wild Bibarel roared, throwing rocks in the direction of Dewott. Dewott evaded them.

"Oh shit, you only know water type moves," Celeste rubbed her forehead, "I guess use aqua tail? You don't have much choice."

The Dewott's tail glowed and whipped it at the Bibarel, unsurprisingly doing little damage. The Bibarel roared and let out a large and powerful stream of water. Despite the move- water pulse- being the same type as Dewott, it seemed to do a great amount of damage.

"I think Dewott will need some help," Celeste turned to Froslass.

You should try catching the Alphas. I'll definitely kill it by accident, she murmured back.

"Hmm… how about you just use confuse ray? Then the Bibarel will do the damage itself."

Girl, you have any idea how long it's been since I've used that move? I don't remember it! You really should start carrying around those other Pokemon that you caught… It's not fair for me to fight in battles against such young ones.

Celeste thought for a moment. Sure, it was unwise of her to carry a party of only one. But she didn't feel that attached to the other Pokemon- she only caught them because Laventon and Arceus want her to do that. It doesn't feel fair to force Pokemon that she doesn't feel attached to to fight for her. Hell, she didn't even feel that close to Dewott. But it's not like she has another choice.

"Okay, I'll pull up a YouTube video of another Pokemon using confuse ray. Will that help?" she asked sarcastically.

Ha ha ha, Froslass rolled her eyes, Good luck finding YouTube two hundred plus years in the past.

Her master took out the phone that Arceus handed her. The black screen reflected the red, setting sun. She turned it on and was greeted with a map and an arrow- probably to show where she's standing and what direction she's facing. She tried exiting the map but no luck.

"Why did we agree to call this a phone?" she asked out loud, "It's clearly just a GPS."

Because Arceus uses it to communicate with you? Froslass suggested.

"Can he communicate how to use confuse ray?"

Maybe you should communicate some commands to Dewott. He's going rouge.

Celeste looked back at the battle. She forgot that she was doing this. But Dewott seemed to have an idea of what to do; he was limited by all his moves, yet the Bibarel hasn't knocked him down yet. This alpha didn't seem as powerful as the Lopunny. While the two weren't paying attention, Celeste took out a PokeBall and flung it at the wild one.

"...And caught!" she exclaimed in happiness and ran up to the ball. Despite looking tired, Dewott still found the energy to cheer.

Celeste looked back at the crafting kit that Volo gave her earlier. Thankfully there was a recipe for a potion: all she needed was an Oran berry and a medicinal leek. She got to starting a fire and held the kit over it so that she could brew one.

Once all was done, she gave the drink to her Pokemon and continued past the dam. Up a hill, past sleeping Bunearies and swimming Psyducks, there was a clear path marked with torches and a staircase. She figured she was heading in the right direction and followed the path until she reached some broken down columns.

In front of them stood… a child. A literal child in a pink tunic and an oversized cowboy hat. She looked back at the phone- she definitely walked to the Heartwood.

"Hi there," she said, "I'm Celeste, a member of the Galaxy Team. Do you know where Warden Lian is?"

"I'm Lian of the Pearl Clan!" the boy responded loudly and proudly, "I am the warden, the guardian, and the protector of Kleavor, the Lord of the Woods."

Celeste raised an eyebrow, "Okay… Uhh, you got a mom or dad that I can talk to?"

"My parents died in an accident long ago!" the boy announced, "But you… you think that you're worthy of seeing our Lord Kleavor?"

Celeste and Froslass glanced at each other.

Impeccable first impression. As always, Froslass sneered.

"Uhh, yes," Celeste responded, ignoring her Pokemon's remarks.

"Of course you think so! And I'm not surprised. The powerfully awesome Kleavor has become ever more awesomely powerful!" the boy grinned.

"Oh, okay," Celeste responded meekly, not expecting this answer.

"I believe that the strange light-eh-ning is Almighty Sinnoh co-mmu-nicating with us. I don't know what he said but he struck Lord Kleavor and now Lord Kleavor became more awesome! Un-fortu-nat-ley, he also became stronger. So I don't think you should meet my Lord right now."

"Oh that's okay," Celeste said confidently, "I think Lord Kleavor wants to see me."

"Okay!" the boy's eyes shone, "Un-for-tu-nate-ly, Irida told me that under no circumstance should anyone see Lord Kleavor."

That bitch, Celeste thought.

"But I see you have passion! I will fight you myself to see if you are worthy of seeing Him!"

"Okay," Celeste shrugged. What kind of Pokemon could this kid possibly have, a Magikarp?

"Fine!" he folded his arms, "But I'm strong! So I suggest you turn around now. Or else!"

"Uh, no. Let's battle."

"Huh?" the kid stroked his chin, "I was hoping you'd turn away… for your own sake… but fine! Come out Goomy!"

The child sent out a small, purple blob that glanced at Celeste judgmentally.

"Go Froslass," Celeste said simply.

Me?! Froslass exclaimed incredulously.

"Yes, you."

Maybe you should be a little fair? I'll definitely kill his Pokemon!

"Froslass, for the love of the gods above, stop arguing with me," she pulled the Pokemon closer to her and whispered, "Look, this is just some dumb kid that's standing in the way. The quicker I beat him the quicker I can see Kleavor and the closer I get to finishing Arceus's mission so that I can return home. So go!"

Froslass muttered something under her breath. Before any of the trainers said any commands, she let out a powerful force of freezing wind- a blizzard- and Gloomy quickly fainted.

"What?!" the child exclaimed, "I've been… defeated?!"

"I did have the type advantage," Celeste shrugged, "So, where can I meet the real Warden Lian?"

"I am Warden Lian," the child said sadly, "How could I have been defeated? And so fast? I don't understand…"

Celeste glanced at his outfit again- the tunic was very similar to the style of Tunic that Mai had, yet simultaneously it seemed to be a direct opposite… Maybe this kid was telling the truth. Tears welled up in his eyes and his cheeks turned a bright red color. Froslass looked back at her master, Are you done making little kids cry? She asked.

"Hey! You actually did a good job battling!" Celeste quickly said, "Well… I'm sure you would have. Froslass just has a type advantage, that's all. And she's super strong. Once Gloomy evolves I'm sure that he'll be a lot stronger-"

"I'm not sad because you won," the boy sniffled, "I'm sad because I can't let you see Lord Kleavor… Because he's out of control!" he sat on the ground as the tiny tears in his eyes turned into large streams rapidly falling down his cheeks. The boy bawled and Celeste kicked the ground awkwardly.

"It's too dangerous to meet him," he said in between tears, "You'll only be met with blows and hits and scratches and kicks! Usually I leave him an offering… It always makes him feel better… but he won't even accept the offerings from me! His own warden!" He started noisily sobbing again and Celeste felt her heart drop, "I'm a failure! I was defeated in this battle! And I can't even help my own Lord get better!"

"Hey, hey, hey, there's no need to cry," Celeste walked up to him and squatted to be eye level with him, "What kind of offerings did you give him? You know, maybe we can figure something out together."

"Usually honey… grains… beans… Those are his favorite foods..."

"Okay… hmm," Celeste thought for a moment, remembering Cyllene's tip, "You know, Captain Cyllene suggested quelling Kleavor with his favorite food. Maybe in his rage, he can't notice that you're leaving offerings for him. What if we throw them at him instead?"

"Throw them?" Lian frowned.

"Yeah… Honey is very sticky, right? So we can mix his favorite foods into a ball and throw them at him. It'll be like a food fight!"

"Yeah!" Lian wiped his tears away, "Food fights are fun!"

"Exactly," Celeste smiled. She caused some damage to Pokemon by throwing rocks and sticks and acorns at them. Will this honey-grain-bean concoction be hard enough to deal damage? Only trying will tell.

"I can gather all the honey and beans and grains! Just wait here!" Lian grinned from ear to ear and ran off into the wilderness.

The two spent all night putting small balls together from the materials. As the sun rose, Celeste tried brushing off how tired she felt. She stared at a big tree in an empty area- where Kleavor was said to live- and walked forth with confidence and fatigue.

She walked past the entrance and was greeted with a loud GRAAASHAAA. She walked up to the tree and touched its bark. There was a strange energy coming from it, but nothing that would indicate the presence of a Pokemon. Behind her, the ground shook. She looked at the perimeter of the area- following its circular shape, a golden being quickly ran and cut a tree in half. It then jumped high up to the sky and fell with great force and grace right in front of her.

Celeste had a hard time making out its shape and face. Its golden body didn't help. She could see how it resembles Scizor and Scyther, but it looked a lot older and wiser. Its two arms were similar to axes. It banged them on the forest floor, resulting in a deep sound thst vibrated to the rest of the forest. It let out a roar- probably as a warning- and Celeste opened her bag. The sweet scent of the balls that she and Lian and Froslass made overwhelmed her and she realized that she didn't even have breakfast yet.

What are you doing?! Froslass shrieked, Throw a balm!

Celeste caught her breath and took one of the balms from her bag. Kleavor looked as if he were positioning himself to run into her. She threw a balm, then another. The Pokemon let them hit him, then sprinted straight into her direction. She yelped and jumped out of the way, causing Lord Kleavor to hit the edge of the arena. It sat on the ground, clearly dazed and confused, so Celeste sent out Dewott.

"Dewott! Use aqua tail!" She yelled.

Dewott's tail became a fluorescent blue color and, with the great force of water, he hit Kleavor. Kleavor raised one of its arm-axes and, with an even greater deal of force, swung Dewott into the tree.

"Dewott!" Celeste screamed.

The Pokemon groaned but got up, willing to continue fighting.

"Water pulse!" she commanded.

Dewott let out water, hitting Kleavor. Although it seemed to do a lot of damage, Kleavor was left standing.

The Noble Pokemon roared again. This time, it charged at Dewott and flung it out of the arena. He then looked back at Celeste, You can assume your little friend fainted, he seemed to snarl.

"Welp, that's not good," Celeste said to herself, "Okay!" she added out loud, "Froslass! Let's show him how we do things back in Sinnoh!"

Froslass's eyes were wide open from fear. Kleavor was big. Plus, the golden shell surrounding its body made him difficult to look at. Nonetheless, she floated in front of her master, ready to defend and attack. She let out a strong beam of ice, which seemed to do enough damage for the Kleavor to retreat.

"Nice!" Celeste praised her.

I don't think we're done, Froslass turned to her master, He looks like he's about to attack again. Get the balms ready.

Sure enough, she was right. Kleavor raised its axe-arm again and tried hitting Celeste. She quickly jumped out of the way and grabbed a handful of balms. Froslass took as many as her arms could fit and the two attacked the raging Noble from different directions.

Lord Kleavor grew angry. He ran fast across the arena, trying to get behind Celeste. The sun shined off his glowing body and Celeste tripped over a tree root. Froslass continued throwing balms at the Pokemon but Celeste sat down.

"My glasses!" she exclaimed, realizing that she lost them.

She crouched down and tried to make herself as small as possible then squinted her eyes, hoping that at the very least she could find them. She felt the warm, muddy ground looking for them. They seemed to be gone, almost as if the trickster Giratina took them. The area suddenly became quiet. She turned around, fearing the worst.

Right above her, up in the air, mid-jump, was Lord Kleavor, with his axe-arms raised, ready to slam on the girl. Paralyzed with fear, she took a deep breath, cowered, and braced for the attack.

"Ugh," she was happy to feel a nice, dry mattress beneath her body. She woke up and saw blurry Froslass floating over her, with her hands folded and her eyes slanted in anger.

"Did we win?" she asked her Pokemon.

Well… Kleavor literally flung Dewott out of the arena and gave you a concussion that left you in a week long coma so… no, I don't think we won, she said.

"Kleavor? What the hell is that?" Celeste muttered, her head hurting from a pounding headache.

"You're awake!" a singsongy voice chirped from the side. Celeste looked over. Pesselle the Nurse grinned widely at her, "Oh, I am so happy! We really thought that you will die!"

"What happened?" she groaned.

"I believe that you were attacked on a mission. No worries! It happens to the best of us," Pesselle smiled warmly and walked out of the room.

You were attacked by one of the Nobles- whom, by the way, you chose to face with only one Pokemon- and you lost, Froslass sighed bitterly, Truth be told, you didn't even need to defeat him in a battle. I think those balms were working quite well. But he got to you anyway. I had to drag your body back all the way to Jubilife!

Celeste tried to say something but Professor Laventon, Cyllene, Rei, and Akari walked into the room.

"Ah, there's our Sleeping Beauty!" Professor Laventon smiled, "Look at that, she's awake and alright."

"Alright except for that large scar on her forehead," Akari giggled.

"I've never seen anyone who had to get that many stitches," Rei gasped, "And so much blood! I thought I was going to vomit!"

"Don't mind him," Akari smiled, "He's just scared of blood."

Only Cyllene didn't appear happy.

"You went after a raging Noble without letting anyone know first?" she said quietly through her teeth, scaring Celeste, "Have you no mind?"

"I thought you guys told me to quell him!" she responded defensively.

"Not without warning us first! We didn't expect you to just go for it, we thought you would let us know right before! We didn't even know where you were. What if Kleavor attacked your Pokemon. Who would have brought you back?"

Arceus, after all He did want me here anyway, Celeste thought.

"Next time, you must report everything that you do to Professor Laventon. No excuses and no exceptions. You could have died, Celeste, you have any idea what that means? This was completely irresponsible and selfish. As if I need more Corps members who try to play the hero only to end up severely disfigured or dead. You should be grateful that you're even alive with the state we found you in. No more," Cyllene snapped, "Do you understand me?"

I wish you would just yell at me, Celeste closed her mouth shut as to not accidentally say something that would further provoke Cyllene.

"I said," Cyllene repeated, "Do you understand me?"

"Yes, ma'am."
