Chara rested there, behind the pillar. Nestled between the rock blocking one side, and the opening of the other. Back pressed against the wall, mostly out of sight from anything beyond this point.
She had been waiting for...well, she had no idea how long. At one point she paced around and dragged the remains of the stick across the wall. She, at one point came to the center of the hall.
She held the stick out, and imagined herself in a fight against someone. Side-stepping imagined arcane blasts. Diving out, to slash at the imagined target. Yet, even in her imagination, the strange spellcaster was eternally one step ahead of her.
She swung low, imagining something rising from the ground beneath her. Forcing a step back, avoiding blades from beneath the surface. Her eyes aglow with light as she did, and odd smile forming on her face.
Towards the end of the fight she stood still, unmoving for a time. Head low, waiting. And then...a moment. A resolution. Her chance to strike. The snap forward saw the stick spin in her hand, held like a dagger under rather than over. Dragging it down through the imagined foe, and then...well, she couldn't imagine what came next.
However, she was left panting in the aftermath of her little game, and didn't care anymore. She wandered over behind the pillar she was at now. Tired, resting there. Waiting.
Sometimes she looked over at the opened pathway leading out, or over the rock at the dark she'd come from. She would imagine creatures, strange things, big and small. She imagined one, like a television set, sprung forth like a twisted tree.
She imagined things like feral hounds. Things like moths of sickening flesh. Her thoughts spiraling into angels. Horrible, horrible things, with millions and millions of eyes. Watching her, leaving her skin crawling in the process.
"What'cha lookin at?" A voice said, causing her to jolt, and swing. "H-hey!"
Flowey narrowly dodged the stick, as Chara let out a scream of panic. The flower having popped into the ground, and out of a crack nearby. He gave her a look of bewilderment, watching her pant and twitch.
"That's a great way to greet someone." Flowey remarked with a huff. "What the hell Chara?"
"I thought you were an angel." She explained.
"An angel?" He asked.
"Ya know, those freaky things with like hundreds of eyes, who kill people when they look at them?" Chara commented, hand on her chest, working to calm herself down. "Y-you know...th-they're like...freaky and...have you never heard of them?"
"Usually people say they like them, or something." Flowey commented. "Find them reassuring, or whatever. Think one'll save them."
"They creep me out." The girl noted, shaking herself. "Freaky...awful creepy..." She took a few breaths, and calmed down some. "O-oh...also, Howdy Partner."
"Howdy?" He responded.
"I-I dunno...you were weird when I said greetings." She reminded him.
Flowey shrugged. "Fair point...so. Can't help but notice, she just left you here?"
As he spoke, she got up to her feet, working to clear her mind of imagined horrors. Adjusting the wrappings on her arms, in the process. Something noticed by the flower, who frowned at the sight of them.
"Well...she had to go do stuff." She replied. "Cleaning, I think."
"Right...well, at least she seemed happy to see you." Flowey said in mild sarcasm. "Left you with a whole new look." The girl glanced away. "Also, before you ask...I was around. I just...doubt she'd be as glad to see me. And considering-" He motioned to the bandages. "I don't know think I'd get the same 'leniency' ya know?"
Chara laughed nervously. "She's...she's usually pretty friendly." He gave a doubting expression. "Hey, I get it, you're shy. No worries Petals."
"That is...not my concern." Flowey then added. "And that's a terrible nickname."
"But not inaccurate." She smiled some.
"Ughh." He sighed.
The two were quiet for a moment, Chara fixing up some of the wrap on her left arm. A strand having come loose.
Flowey looked over towards the path leading out, bearing hearing a clicking noise. He watched as Chara held a phone in her hand, looking it over. Fidgeting with it, before putting it in her pocket, looking dejected. Afterwards, she noticed, and picked up a rock from the ground.
"Hey Flowey-" She examined the rock. "Check this out."
She felt the weight of the stone in her hand, tossed it up and caught it a couple times. Turning her focus to the wall across from her, she focused on the memory. Doing her best to mimick the way Mychal had been standing.
The Flower watching curiously, as she tossed it out. It skipped across the floor, smacked and smacked against the wall. The force prompting it to bounce, and fall about halfway back to her.
"Uhm...neat." He replied unenthusiastically.
"That wasn't the trick, petals. So...hang on, I got this." She stated, picking up another.
"What are you trying to do?" He inquired.
"Just give it a moment, you'll see." The girl readjusted herself.
She took a moment, noting that she was off somewhat. She examined the distance between her and the wall. Using her fingers as a sort of guide for where she wanted it to go, she held out her hand. The world seemed to slow, as she imagined the different ways she could throw it. Until, at last, only one remained.
Flowey raised a brow. "What are you doing?"
Taking a breath, she pulled her arm back, and to the side. Taking a breath, she let it out, before flinging it forward. The rock hitting the ground at an angle, ricocheting against the wall, before bouncing back. Only this time, it sailed back properly and, with a quick motion, she snatched it from the air. Smiling proudly, at her execution of the trick this time.
"Tada!" She exclaimed.
"H-how did you know it would do that?" Flowey asked, looking genuinely surprised. "That was so cool!"
"Well you know," She got a devious look. "Being amazing is one of my Chara-cter traits."
"And you ruined it...good going." He said back. "Still neat, I guess."
Chara shrugged. "Well, I'm known to do a Gneiss Job."
"Was...Was that a pun?" Flowey asked dubiously.
"Sorry, It's just...we've been off to a rocky start-" Chara noted casually. "So, I figured I'd brighten the mood."
The flower seemed annoyed. "Stop."
"What, I thought they were rock solid." Chara grinned, hearing him groan.
The response earned an enthusiastic laugh from her. The girl stepped back, sliding against the wall, down to the ground. The two eventually coming to wait there, with little to do.
Every now and then, she'd toss the rock, catching it, repeating. At a point, she offered Flowey to try. Though, he just shook his head, declining the offer.
Waiting as it turned out, was not the childs strongest suit. Her mind, her soul kept pressing her to continue on. And when she wasn't, or when she wasn't talking, or distracting herself, her mind went to...unpleasant places.
And after letting the rock drop, she began rose and pacing. The Flower watching her move back and forth. Somewhat confused looking.
Chara gave a glance to the doorway. How long had it been? 20 minutes, thirty? She took out her phone, and began pressing the buttons until it brought up Toriels number. Putting the phone on speaker, as the ringing began to fill the empty hall. The duo watching it with mixed anticipation. And then...it clicked. Nobody answered.
Flowey blinked a few times, noticing Chara mumbling something. He couldn't quite make it out. He attempted to listen in and was able to piece together that she was muttering about whether or not Toriel was alright.
"You shouldn't worry about Toriel." He said knowingly. "She's...pretty strong, she'll be fine."
"But what if-" Chara began.
"She'll be alright," Flowey assured her, almost amused. "Nobody who lives here, or in Old Home could hold a candle...seriously."
Finally, she stopped pacing, and looked to the door out. With a huff she started walking towards the door. The Flower giving a surprised look, diving into the soil, before appearing in front of her.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"But she didn't answer the phone-" She stepped past him. "What if something bad happened?"
"C-Chara-" The Flower groaned, appearing in the next room with her. "Just slow down would ya?" He then huffed. "Look...I don't really like the idea of you being around her right now...but that hardly matters. Listen, given her...experience...there's nothing in this place that could hurt your mom. I promise."
"Ugh, why did you even show up, if you don't wanna help me?" The girl asked, crossing her arms.
Flowey blinked, and frowned. "I didn't say...I don't wanna help you. I was there to try and keep you safe, until your mom showed back up." He then muttered. "So long as she was...safe to be around this time."
Chara hardly cared at this point, and looked around the next room. Briefly noticing something shining at her side. The same purple star, shining brightly upon her entry. Resembling something she could barely recall.
She was uncertain precisely what it was, or why it felt familiar and unfamiliar all at once. But as before, it indicated a save had been performed. And then she made a move to ignore it. After all, it didn't seem to matter much at the moment.
"Are you going to come with me, or are you going to run away?" She demanded.
"Of course I'm gonna go with you." Flowey sighed in defeat.
"Well great cuz-" The world suddenly flashed, turning red and dark. "I...what?"
Her attention turning to a rather beat up looking monster. Like a frog, with what could best be described as 'fangs.' Her surprise matched by Floweys.
It seemed...they were about to be in a fight.
