I absolutely love working at the bakery. Ms. Sue lets me make almost anything I want, but since it's autumn, she asked that I do pumpkin and carrot-flavored things for the most part, which is a simple request.

While the cupcakes and muffins are always a hit, my pumpkin cheesecake roll flies off the shelf. Each day I work, I make more, but we can't keep it in stock all day once I leave no matter how much I make. I've even been asked by some customers to make full rolls to take home to their family, which fills me with so much pride.

Edward said attitude is a big part of my journey to a new heart, so Emmett doesn't mind when I add working on Saturdays to keep up with demand. I teach Ms. Sue my recipes, but she says mine turn out better—which I highly doubt. She's a trained and skilled baker, and I'm just an amateur.

Still, I love the confidence she gives me.

"Bella, you have a customer," she calls from the front.

I wipe my hands on my apron and head up, expecting Emmett or Carlisle since Edward is out of town for his reserve training, but instead, it's Jasper and Seth. I quickly come around the counter, giving them both hugs.

"Thanks for coming by," I say. "Do you want to sit?"

They nod, grabbing their own pumpkin cheesecake rolls and drinks, and we head over to a table to catch up. Everyone's been so busy the past few weeks that we haven't had dinner at Carlisle and Esme's like usual.

"These are amazing, Bella," Jasper says as Seth nods in agreement with a full mouth. "I know you have your dreams, but you could easily make a full career out of this."

I've been thinking more about that. If I get a heart, I'll look into formal training, but the future's so uncertain right now, and I don't want to make plans. I'm kind of just … stuck right now. But at least, I have this. It's enough. It has to be.

"Maybe," I say. "To be honest, I'm just having fun right now. It keeps my mind off things and gives me a purpose."

"How'd the appointments in Seattle go? I haven't really had a chance to catch up with Emmett, and all Dad knew was that it went fine."

"It did. Edward was there, which helped. I'm not nervous around him like other doctors."

A small smirk plays on his lips. "You know Alice thinks you have a crush on him." My eyes widen as he laughs. "But you know how Alice is. She sees what she wants to see."

I sigh in relief. "Yeah, she tried to set me up with nearly every boy I ever talked about in high school. It was a bit embarrassing to have a grown adult ask a teenage boy if he likes me."

"Mom did that?" Seth nearly chokes out. "She just asks me almost every week if I like someone."

"But you do," Jasper says, nudging his son. "Of course, my lips are sealed."

"I knew you were texting with a girl!" I laugh. "Seriously though, don't tell your mom. She'll have your wedding planned in an hour."

He nods. "She should have been a matchmaker instead of an architect since she loves doing it so much."

The kid isn't wrong. Alice is all about people finding their happily ever after. She found hers with Jasper their first year of college, and they've been together since. They even married after only six months of dating. She's been trying like hell lately to set Emmett up with a nurse at the hospital, but he's been resistant. He says now isn't the time, but I wish he'd take Alice up on the match. I think he needs someone, especially if I don't make it.

They spend about twenty minutes with me before I need to get back to work, and I spend the rest of my shift with my mind on Jasper's words. Alice isn't wrong, but I very much need her to keep her mouth shut. Especially around Emmett.

I don't need my big brother killing my doctor after all.
