"Arrest Eren Jaeger."

Commissioner Gordon sat back in his chair, considering the officers in front of him.

"That's an order." He said. He was not surprised by the response. The three stared at him, as if they could not believe what he was saying.

"We can't do that."

"People will riot."

"He's a hero, Commissioner."

"He is not a hero." Gordon said, trying to keep his patience. He stood up and turned his back to them, facing the city through the window behind him. He was trying to rationalize how best to explain his mindset to his people.

"Eren Jaeger." He said. "Took the law into his own hands. He acted outside the bounds of how a foreign dignitary should act within the borders of a foreign country. We cannot allow him to simply walk free."

"Gordon, people are dancing in the street."

"Eren has done more for Gotham than Batman ever has."

Gordon whirled around.

"Don't say that." He snapped. "Never say that!" The officer who had spoken recoiled, in surprise at his outburst. Gordon turned back around.

"Eren Jaeger will not be sent to prison." He said. "He will not be sentenced. We simply need to… bring him in. We need to prevent people from feeling as if they can take the law into their own hands."

"This is… for the greater good?"

Gordon turned around.

"Yes." He said. "For the greater good."

He was relieved to see that they were finally convinced. They left to make their preparations, and Gordon sat down at the desk with a sigh, pouring himself a drink. The phone rang. He had every intention of ignoring it, until he saw the name registered. He picked it up in a hurry.

"Oh, Mr. Wayne…"

"Hello Commissioner." The pleasant voice of Bruce Wayne came from the other end. "Exciting night, huh?"

"You're telling me." Gordon sighed, shaking his head. "What can I do for you, Mr. Wayne?" He knew perfectly well that Bruce Wayne wanted something from him.

"I've only just heard from Alfred…" (His Butler, Gordon thought with a shake of his head) "But is it true that the Joker is dead?"

How very like Wayne. Gordon thought bitterly. He could easily turn on the news or check the internet for the details, but instead used his connections to contact him directly. It was shameful.

"It is." Gordon said.

"Oh, wow." Bruce said. "I might save the several million I donate to the city every year to repair the damage he causes."

The millions that you should have just paid in taxes, Gordon thought, getting increasingly annoyed.

"Did Batman do it?"

Leave it to Bruce Wayne to ask such an ignorant question.

"No, it was a man named Eren Jaeger." Gordon said. "The King of Eldia."

"Oh yes, I took his wife out to dinner the other night." Bruce said, sounding surprised. "She was very lovely… wonderful girl."

"Did you really?" Gordon was not amused.

The conversation continued this way for some time. As busy as he was, Gordon could not refuse one of the richest, most powerful men in Gotham. The man whose money, it was said, singlehandedly kept the city running.

"Now that Joker is dead." Bruce said. "What now?"

"We need to get people to calm down." Gordon said. "Killing the Joker isn't going to fix this city's problems. It's only going to create a power vacuum." Much more organized criminals would soon fill the void that the Joker had left. He wouldn't be surprised if, in the morning, an entire gang of Joker Wannabes hit the streets, causing violence and mayhem purely for the fun of it.

"Hm." Bruce said. "Well, feel free to contact Alfred if the city needs any more grants."

Gordon thanked him, hung up, and palmed his face.

Eren Jaeger stood on the balcony of his hotel room, staring down at the cheering crowd down below. Mikasa stood beside him, considering them quietly.

"They're happy."

"They wanted this for a long time." Eren said, as he stared down at them. "But their leaders did nothing."

They were shouting his name now, throwing confetti into the air. Eren nodded at them, and then turned around to his room.

"There is work to be done." He said to Mikasa, who followed him back inside. "I am sure the Joker had some powerful allies. Perhaps they will come after us as well."

Historia walked into the room, rubbing her eyes. She looked exhausted.

"I've been taking phone calls all day." She complained. (She had taken the time to learn how to answer a phone, although she still had not memorized a single phone number) "People won't stop calling to thank us. They're swarming the hotel lobby too… I just spoke to the manager. If they knew what floor we were on they would probably be outside of our room."

"We should consider changing buildings." Mikasa suggested. "Until things quiet down."

"We've only just settled in!" Historia said, alarmed.

"We shouldn't get too comfortable." Mikasa said, eyeing Eren. "We will have to return home eventually."

"I agree." Eren said, quietly, "Perhaps sooner than later."

"Why would we?" Historia asked. "This city has been good to us." Eren turned back around. The atmosphere outside seemed to have quieted. A little bit too quickly. There were a handful of angry shouts.

"Eren?" Historia asked.

"Historia." Eren said. "Stay here. Remember that we did nothing wrong."

She stared at him as he went into the other room with Mikasa. She really had no idea what to make of those words. The phone rang again and she moved, automatically, as if to answer.

"This is Historia." She said promptly.

"Your Majesty." The man at the front desk rasped. "The police… they want to take your husband in. They want to bring him in for a statement."

Historia's responded immediately.

"Eldians." She said promptly. "Are free."

And she hung up the phone.

She turned around to see Eren and Mikasa had changed into their full ODM gear. She sighed, shaking her head with a smile.

"I don't think now is the best time to tell you that I'm pregnant." She said, as she leaned forward and kissed him. She turned to Mikasa and gave her a hug as well. "But make sure you're both there when the baby is born… okay?"

Eren actually smiled. Mikasa returned the hug, and Historia stepped back.

There was a hammering at the door.

"This is the police!"

Historia turned around to face the door as Eren and Mikasa, along with the rest of their fully uniformed Scout Regiment, leapt out into the streets of Gotham.

"Hold on, I'm coming!" Historia said. She reached the door and unlocked it, opening it wide.

"Hello, Officer." Historia said politely. "What is your business here?"

It was not long before they were accosted by Batman. They had barely swung across five buildings when they noticed him swooping in behind him. It was clear that the ODM gear far outstripped his own: there had never been a need for Batman to evolve to swing around as fast as they. Eren signalled they stop.

He, Mikasa, Armin, and the others touched down on the roof of the building. Batman landed down across from them. He was quickly accompanied by Robin, and then another Robin. No one had ever informed them that there was more than one.

"The police." Batman rasped. "Want to see you."

"And I." Eren said. "Have no business with the police."

He gestured Mikasa to step forward, and she did so, weapons at the ready, staring all three of them down with an icy glare.

"Do you have any idea what you've done?" Batman asked. "The public are starting to riot. You've caused the people to lose faith in the police."

"I did nothing of the sort." Eren said. "The police have lost the trust of the public because they are more interested in securing pensions and donations from billionaires than serving the public."

Batman glowered at him.

"Why is it." Eren continued. "That you are so angry? Perhaps… you resent the fact that the legend of Batman can not possibly live up to what ordinary people can accomplish. There was no reason to allow the Joker to run amok for as long as you did. No reason other, than I suspect, to satisfy your own ego…"

Batman raised his hand, and a swirling batarang came twirling towards them. Mikasa knocked them aside with her sword and stood her ground.

"You find yourself." Eren continued. "Unable to face reality that none of your actions since your parents were murdered have amounted to anything."

"Titans, GO!"

A blast of intense energy hit the ground at his feet. Dust from the particles fell upwards, creating a dust cloud that covered the entire group so thoroughly none could see. Eren could hear Mikasa grunt: Batman had obviously moved in to attack under the cover of the smokescreen. He could hear the soldiers around him struggling as well. He stood there, anticipating an attack, and soon got it.

"Hiiiii-yah!"

It was one of the Robins. Eren blocked the arm and returned the strike. But Robin retaliated, slamming his fist into his chin.

Eren staggered. Robin moved in to restrain him, but Eren quickly remembered the teachings of the best martial artist he knew.

Robin moved to grab him, but Eren dove into him. With one smooth motion, he used his weight to throw Robin onto the ground.

"ACK!"

Eren adjusted his arms to choke him and held the position. All around them energy blasts and roars filled the air.

"You'll never get away." Robin said. "You're surrounded."

Eren adjusted his arm to tighten his grip. Robin gagged.

"Listen to me." Eren said. "I am not your enemy."

Robin struggled to escape the grip, but Eren kept him firmly restrained.

"You must understand this better than anyone." Eren said. "Tell me… are you doing the right thing?"

Robin froze. Satisfied, Eren released him and rolled off of him. He got to his feet as the dust began to clear.

Robin had been right. They had been completely overpowered. Batman had brought so many heroes with him that his own people couldn't have possibly have won. Only Mikasa seemed to be putting up a fight, and that was likely because no one was yet aware of how strong she truly was.

A hooded figure approached him now, and Eren got into another fighting stance. He was more concerned with his friends than about himself, and his thoughts were more on how the others were faring then himself.

The figure surprised him.

"If you wish to save your friends, your best bet would be to surrender." It was a girl. She raised her hand and pointed long, elegant fingers at him. "I promise you… they will not be harmed."

"It is a little late for promises." Eren said. The girl thought for a moment, before responding.

"You are not an evil man." She said. "Please…"

Eren shook his head.

"I married the worst girl in the world." He said. "And… I like her. I must be evil."

He was surprised when she let out a small laugh. It was surprisingly cute.

"No, I can tell." She said. "You must… you don't need to fight us. Let me help you."

Mikasa whirled around. The ODM gear attached to a building across the street from them, and she yanked herself away from Batman, soaring through the air towards the girl in question. She kicked her so hard in the head that she went sprawling.

"Scatter!" Eren commanded, and each of every one of the Survey Corps took off, using the route Mikasa established to escape the circle, but immediately upon hitting the open streets swung away in different directions.

"After them!" Cyborg called, and Starfire took off after them, throwing green starbolts at the escaping Eldians. She missed, hitting instead the size of a building, causing rubble to fall onto the street below.

"They weren't so tough." Beast Boy said confidently, as he resumed his normal form. "They're just… quick. That's all."

Raven sat up, rubbing her head. Her first thought that she had never been hit so hard in her life. Her second thought was that, whatever his reasons, Eren certainly did not behave like someone they should have been fighting.
