The Island of Paradise was a shithole. The worst place on Earth. Eldians were everywhere, Gabi Braun thought, as she took a long drag out of her cigar that she had just bought from an Eldian merchant. She watched as the people circled a statue of Ymir, chanting her name. It made her feel sick to her stomach.
Everywhere she looked there were Eldians. Eldians who did not feel shame and contempt for their history. Eldians who took pride in who they were. Eldians who celebrated the tyrant Eren Jaeger, who would have destroyed the world if it had not been for the unstoppable might of the Kingdom of Marley.
It was incredible. She thought. How there was only one good Eldian left in the entire world. Herself.
The attack on the Walls had been an impeccably planned operation. Warriors Reiner, Annie, and Bertolt were to enter the Devil's Paradise and seize the founding titan, which would render the Eldians completely incapable of making war. It had taken the operatives over five years before they discovered the Founding Titan, residing inside a man named Eren Jaeger. They, and the Beast Titan Zeke, had done everything in their power to seize it from him.
But Jaeger had been too much for them. He killed Bertolt, devoured Zeke and Piecke, and forced Leonhart to betray Marley and serve him. That filthy degenerate Historia Reiss seduced the Marleyan Ymir and, upon learning of the outside world, they launched an offensive and seized the last of the Nine, the Warhammer, as well.
Marley was on the verge of crumbling. Without the power of the titans, they had no way of asserting their military dominance over other countries. In other words, it was only a matter of time until the Kingdom fell, and the Eldians reasserted control.
It would be, in all likelihood, the end of all diversity and culture on the planet. It was in their nature, to fight and kill until someone stood up to them. They would devour the entire world if they could.
She was done with her cigar. She tossed it aside, hoping vainly that it would somehow set an Eldian an fire, and then stomped away. The chants of Ymir's name lingering behind her, long after they were out of sight.
This island was filled with nothing but Eldians, and traitors who had procreated with them. It was appalling to her how many new born Eldian children she saw as she made her way back to her home, Little Marley.
She felt a strong sense of relief as she left the well kept streets of the city into Little Marley proper. There were no children or Eldian patriots here… the last remnants of the great Kingdom of Marley lived here.
Trash filled the entire street from both directions, making it virtually impossible for carts or transports to deliver food or supplies. Emancipated Marleyan loyalists sat around on the side of the road, smoking whatever they could find and reminding each other that the Islanders were to blame for this. No one worked.
It was the closest thing to paradise on the Island of Paradise, Gabi liked to remind everyone. Here, they could still pretend to be human.
"Gabi!"
She looked up to see a gaggle of beggars walking towards her. She recoiled, slightly. Although this was Little Marley, everyone here was still an Eldian. They were just as dangerous and unhinged as everyone else.
Ignoring their requests for food and money, Gabi quickly made her way past them and hurriedly made her way back to the Rebellion's Barracks… where all of the finest warriors of Marley gathered.
She entered the building to find no one standing guard, no one preparing for the new attack on Eldian forces, no one planning recruitment, and no one documenting the lives of every titan shifter on the Island. All she found was a couple of drunks passed out at a table. She was about to wake them up and reprimand them for trespassing, only to realize that they were her superior officers. Grimacing, she had no choice but to her plan her genocide of the Eldian people alone.
It was a daunting task: She was on enemy territory with no allies, no titans, and no real resources. Nevertheless, it had to be done. If she could simply find a way to kill Eren Jaeger, she would be able to put an end to the hated Eldian race.
She sat there for hours, thinking up schemes to eliminate Eren Jaeger, longing for a world without Eldians.
When she slept, still at work, dead Eldians danced in her dreams. They were the most wonderful dreams she had ever had. She initially woke up smiling, and went to check the local paper.
The entire thing was filled with advertisements about how wonderful life outside of Little Marley was. Disgusted, she almost threw out the paper entirely before something caught her eye.
THE NEW WORLD
She stopped, the breath hitching in her throat as she stared at the headline. Ever since the Island had been ripped from their old world and placed into this new one there had been no hope to ever eliminate the hated Eldians. Without the united offensive of the entire outside world, they had no hope of ever overcoming the Founding Titan.
But there was a world outside. One that would be under attack from the titans, and the evil of Eren Jaeger. They too, would rise up against the Eldians, and do everything in their power to destroy them all.
She ran her eyes over the article and began to read.
…
She read until the early hours of the evening. The outside world was more wonderful than she had possibly imagined. Entire countries she had never heard of, with advanced weapons that could level entire cities. The thought of the United States of America, the greatest military power in the planet, could level the entire island of Paradise with a single phone call made her feel more elated than she had been when she had killed her own Eldian.
The idea that the Eldians could be completely eradicated in one fell swoop made her feel excited in a way that she had never had before. The people in this world were GOOD, and they were CAPABLE of stopping the Eldian menace.
But the more she read, the more she began to realize that Eren Jaeger was putting on a front of normalcy for the new outside world. As far as the rest of the world was aware Jaeger was nothing more than a monarch from a small island nation. There was no possibility that they knew the truth.
It was decided, then. She would have to warn the outside world if she were to overcome Jaeger and kill every last Eldian on the Island. Once they were aware of the danger they faced…. Surely, surely, they would act.
But who would she contact for assistance? Who could possibly help her? Was there anyone on the Island from the outside world now? Her eyes greedily ran over the page, trying to come up with a plan.
Her eyes fell on a single word. Superman.
The World's Strongest Man.
She clutched the paper in her hands, thinking. If Superman was as great as they said… if he truly was the greatest that this world had to offer… than surely, surely. He would eliminate the Eldians before they could do any lasting damage. If he truly was the hero they said he was…
But how to contact him? How could she contact him? Could he… hear her?
She found herself staring out over the horizon from the top of Wall Maria, staring out into the beautiful outside world. They were no Eldians past these walls, she thought. It was a world worth protecting.
"Superman!" She screamed out, over the horizon. "Help me!"
She stared out hopefully, expecting him to fly out of the sun, as she had been told he had been known to do. There was nothing.
"Superman!" She called out again. She raised one leg and stuck it out over the side. "Heeeeeeelp Me….!"
She threw herself over the side of the wall and began to tumble. The life almost flashed before her eyes when strong powerful arms wrapped around her and lifted her up. She blinked, hardly daring to believe it, as Superman set her back down gently on the wall.
"You are fortunate that I was watching the wall." Superman admonished her, raising a finer towards her. She stared at him faintly, hardly daring to believe it. "But you can't just put yourself in danger to get my attention."
"It's important." Gabi said breathlessly, hardly daring to believe her luck. Although she had survived, Superman had appeared. Just as the stories said he would.
Superman peered closely at her. He seemed to be taking in all of her features.
"It must have been." He said at last. "To put yourself in danger like that."
She stared up at him. He was here. He had come. He had really come. If she could convince him… if she could tell him… every Eldian on the island would be dead before the sun set.
"Superman." She said, her voice urgent. "You must listen to me. The entire world is in danger. You do not know the threat that waits within these walls."
"Are you referring to these giants?"
She gave a startled jump.
"You already knew?"
"Of course." He said. He turned away from her and glanced down at their feet. "These walls are filled with them. But what are they?"
This was her chance.
"They're titans." She blurted. "Weapons of the Eldian King."
"Weapons?"
"He can unleash them upon the world whenever he wants." She said. "He'll destroy everything! You… you have to kill him, and everyone else here!" She was so excited, the words came out in a kind of babble. For a moment she feared that he had not understood her. He was looking at her rather strangely. She fought back her own ecstasy and tried to calm herself down.
"We have to destroy the Eldian people." She said. "The entire fate of the world hinges in the balance. Eren Jaeger can unleash these titans into the world at any time.
He cast his eyes across the walls again. He was clearly thinking deeply.
"I believe that these titans are dangerous." He said at last. "I believe that they would do untold amounts of damage, if unleashed into the world."
Gabi's face widened into a smile.
"But." Superman continued. "Why hasn't Eren Jaeger unleashed them into the world already?"
Her smile faded.
"From what I understand." Superman said. "Jaeger has done nothing but attempt to make peace with the outside world. He has brought a select few individuals onto this island, and has begun a cultural exchange. He is in Gotham City now, meeting some of the richest and most powerful people on the planet. He would have no reason to destroy the world."
"You're wrong!" Gabi blurted out. "Eldians… they're all the same! Eldians… they'll eat you all! You have to believe me!"
She reached out a hand and grabbed Superman's costume. She stared up at him pleadingly.
"Please." She said. "You have to kill them all."
Superman raised his hand and squeezed her wrist. Gabi let out a gasp. His grip was tighter than any she had felt before.
"Aren't you Eldian?" Superman asked, a little disparagingly, as she lowered her wrist to her side.
She froze. She hated to be reminded that she was one of them.
"I'm a good Eldian." She said, stiffly.
"And you believe that the rest of you… are not good?"
She stared at him. She found herself reaching for her pocket, where the little pistol she had kept stashed away was stored.
"Listen to me." Superman said. "I'm more concerned about you than anything else right now. Let's talk… alright?"
He was reaching out a hand to grab her again. There was only one thing to do. She had to make him see. Make him see that she deeply believed what she was telling him.
"There are no good Eldians." She blurted. She raised the pistol to her face and shoved it in her mouth.
BAM.
Superman cried in shock as her body reeled and fell backwards over the wall. He watched, horrorstruck, as she tumbled, slamming into the ground with a sickening crunch.
Her body lay limp on the stone below. She was dead.
Superman stared down at her, unable to comprehend just what he had seen.
"Eren Jaeger…" He murmured. "Who was this girl?"
…
A/N
Not super happy with this chapter, which is why it took so long. People kept requesting asking me questions about the current state of things on the Island, and I tried my best to try and answer. I had wanted to write this chapter for a long time, but unfortunately I didn't touch on half the topics I wanted to. However, hopefully you have a better idea of what the current Eldian leadership is like, and how things diverged from canon.
We will return to Gotham next chapter. Thank you for your patience.
