The gates to the cell doors opened. The Scarecrow blinked. He had been sitting on his rocking chair, awaiting his meal. He must have dozed off. He had gotten too comfortable in his cell in Arkham.
He half expected a guard to speak to him, but there was nothing. He turned, and saw that there was no one there.
It must be one of the Joker's getaway schemes. He thought. By unlocking all of their doors, he guaranteed that the guards of Arkham would not be able to catch them all. Well… never look a gift horse in the mouth, as they say.
He stood up and walked to the door. He stepped out of his cell and into the hall.
There were no guards. He was completely alone.
It was quite the pleasant surprise. He had been planning his latest escape from Arkham for weeks now, but it would seem his plans would have to wait until after he was reincarcerated. He giggled to himself as he made his way down the hallway, wondering when he would encounter his first opponent. Another inmate he could deal with, but an armed, or worse, Batman, would put an end to his little excursion.
The door at the end of the hall was meant to be heavily locked and guarded at all times, but was now wide open. This must be part of the Joker's plot. Scarecrow thought, as he slipped out into the main building.
Being a medical professional (The best there was at what he did) he had little trouble entering a room filled with ordinary medical chemicals, mixing them, and coming out with vials of fear toxin that could be injected into the skin through a needle, or through the nose in a gaseous form. He found a plastic bag and cut eyes into it, and put it on. Now, he truly was Fear.
…
The Guards of Gotham sat sitting in a circle outside the main building, smoking and chatting. The rank and file of the Asylum had simply been told that their shift schedule would be changing and that they should sit and wait. They had no idea that all around the prison, the most dangerous super criminals in the world were wandering around the Asylum, completely unsupervised. In fact, the Warden himself was holed up in his office, with nothing but the Commissioner for company.
"I don't like this, Gordon." The balding, older man complained. He poured a flask of wine with a shaking hand.
"Batman has everything under control." Gordon assured him. "This is done on his orders."
The Warden, Quincy Sharp, squinted at him.
"You're not Clayface, are you?" He asked suddenly. "This isn't a trick, is it?"
Gordon was about to answer, when the ground began to shake. He frowned, turning towards the heavily barred iron windows.
The monstrous face of a green eyed titan was leering at him.
"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRDOOOOOOON!"
Commissioner Gordon barely had time to react as the Titan punched through the iron bars and grabbed hold of him completely. Every bone in his body broke into pieces as the monster ripped him out into the rain and threw his body into the dirt.
Quincy Sharp backed into the nearest corner, terrified, as the monster let out another unearthly screech. A number of people wearing motorized grappling hooks and swords leapt into the Asylum, advancing into the office.
"You are Quincy Sharp, the Warden?"
The Warden let out a shaky nod.
"I am Mikasa Ackerman." The girl said, as she saluted him. "I have been ordered to exterminate every super criminal in this Asylum, to protect the people of Gotham City. You will provide the details on each and every one of them. If you do so, you will allowed to live. If not-"
The Monster behind her roared again.
"Yes… Yes!" The Warden said at once. "Yes, right away!"
He fumbled through his files and managed to procure the files requested. When he handed them to her she passed them off to a smaller blonde man to her immediate right.
"Please hide here and wait for the extermination to end." She said formally, and then raised a firearm and kicked down the door to the office. The rest of the troupe followed suit.
The giant, leered once more at Quincy Sharp before turning and thundering its way to one of the neighboring buildings.
…
Mikasa led the Survey Corps down into the Asylum.
"Most of the Super Criminals are located in underground facilities that would be difficult to exterminate with the Attack Titan." She explained. "Eren is providing a mere distraction- Our role is to provide results."
She nodded her head.
"Armin, you will take the men and handle the Victor Friez. I will handle Bane alone."
"Bold words."
She looked up and leapt out of the way as a large mass of flesh and muscle descended on her. Her first instinct was to assume it was a titan, and readied her blades, but she quickly realized that this was Bane.
"Go!" She said to the others, and they scattered. She took a fighting stance and stared up at her adversary.
"I do not know you." Bane said, as he stared down at her. "What quarrel do you have with me?"
She was not expecting a conversation with her enemy.
"I am here to kill you." She answered. "Along with the rest of the inmates."
"Pah." Bane said. "That did not answer my question."
"Those are my orders." She said.
He looked at her darkly.
"Are you a member of the League of Shadows?" He asked. Mikasa glowered at him.
"It does not matter." He said, more to himself than to her. "I must escape this place, and if you mean to stop me…"
He charged. A lesser fighter, such as Batman, would have jumped out of the way, or avoided the attack. Mikasa leapt at him, and in one spinning motion severed each and every one of the venom tubes connected to his body.
"GAAAH!"
Mikasa turned and watched as Bane fell to his knees and began to deflate.
She stepped up to him and in one fluid motion and cut off his head. Bane would never again threaten Gotham.
Her next target… Killer Croc. She made his way to his lair, ignoring all of the DANGER and warning signs she passed by. She was fiddling around with the elevator, trying to get it to work, when a large wooden bat hit her on the back of the head.
"Surprise!"
The bat broke in two as Mikasa slowly turned around to see a blonde, grinning woman, holding the broken remains of the Bat. Mikasa glared at her. The smile began to fade from her face.
"Who-"
Mikasa grabbed her neck and lifted her off the ground. The woman yelled out in pain and shock as she began to kick powerlessly at Mikasa.
"What are you doing?"
"How do I get to Croc's Lair?" Mikasa demanded.
"Just… press the down arrow!"
Mikasa tossed the girl aside and turned, pressing the down arrow on the elevator. The elevator clicked on.
"What do you want with that monster, anyway?" The woman asked, as she rubbed her neck. "Who are you?"
"I could ask you the same question."
The woman puffed up. "I'm Harley Quinn, the Joker's Lady!"
Mikasa stared at her. "The clown that Eren killed?"
Harley Quinn looked shocked for a moment as the elevator door opened. "Mistah J is… is… dead?"
Mikasa stepped into the elevator.
"Yes." She said bluntly, as the elevator door closed. She could hear Harley Quinn sobbing as she descended into Croc's lair.
The elevator door opened and she found herself in a wide open, spacious sewer. They had been right to avoid sending Eren down here. She must have been very far underground.
She ignored even more blatant signs as she pushed her way through the grate and into the next room. The tunnel expanded into a sort of underground waterway. She could sense it. He was here.
She stepped out beside the side of the stream and bent over, undoing the straps on her boots. She kicked it off, rolled up her pant leg, and then held it over the side.
She waited, watching her own foot dangle in mid-air. And then Killer Croc leapt upward.
She pulled back quickly, reaching for her swords, and then swung them wildly in an arc. Although Killer Croc's hide was meant to be tough and almost impenetrable to cut through, the specially made steel designed to cut down titans had no trouble cutting his head off.
The body crashed back into the water, and Mikasa turned around, put her boot back on, and made her way back to the elevator. She managed to figure out how to operate it on her own this time, with just a little bit of effort, and as the elevator rose she could hear Eren's roars in the distance. The thought made her feel a little bit more comfortable: She disliked being away from Eren for any length of time.
When she stepped out of the elevator she was somewhat surprised to see that the girl she had left crying was now a corpse. Mutilated beyond all recognition, the body of Harley Quinn had been impaled into a door, her arms and knees bent in such a way that she still looked as if she was crying.
That wasn't something the Survey Corps would do, Mikasa thought, but it was no concern of hers. She reached past Harley Quinn's body, grabbed the doorknob, ripped it open, and then stepped through. She found herself back in the hall where she had first split up from Armin. Having accomplished her tasks, she thought it best to meet up with Eren.
An entire gang of criminals were roving around the entrance hall, brandishing weapons they had doubtlessly seized from the guards. She readied her blades.
"Where's Harley? I wanna take a ride-"
The men barely had time to react as Mikasa's ODM gear attached into the far wall, pulling her along to them. In five quick spinning strikes, all of their heads were taken clean off.
She landed on the opposite end of the hall and hit the ground, pulling back the ODM gear and exiting the building. She looked up to see Eren demolishing one of the other buildings. She jumped up to meet him, and landed on his shoulder.
"It is done." She shouted over to him. He turned to look at her, and then his eyes narrowed.
"I don't know where Armin is." Mikasa explained. "We split up."
Eren's eye roamed the estate, searching for any sign of their people. But as they searched, the sound of an incoming object began to hit their ears. Mikasa flinched as a heavy bullet tore through Eren's body, ripping his Titan form to shreds.
The bullet somehow turned in midair and Mikasa realized suddenly that it was a person. With fiery red hair and glowing green eyes, the girl turned back around and threw a green bolt directly at them.
Mikasa spun forward with her blade and hit it, thankfully dispersing it into sparks. She glowered up at the girl, who swerved out of the way as Mikasa shot out her ODM gear, catching her on the leg.
"Ah-!"
Mikasa had expected to pull her down towards her: she had not expected to go soaring into the sky. The girl whirled and swerved, throwing Mikasa completely off balance as the ODM gear pulled. She had no choice: rather than utilize her blades, she waited until she and the girl were nearly touching before grabbing hold of her, in an armlock.
Again, she was taken aback by the girl's strength. She struggled vainly as Mikasa held on for dear life, trying desperately to wrap her arms around her neck. But then, finally… the girl managed to elbow Mikasa in the face, dislodging her and sending her spinning into the air.
Eren's titan form was barely standing: It hadn't had time yet to regenerate from the girl's surprise it. But Mikasa was able to fire her ODM gear onto it, swing onto its body, and then swing to safety onto the destroyed Arkham Asylum roof. Steam began to rise from the Titan, and Eren leapt out to join her.
"Best disappear." He murmured to her quietly. "Come on."
She nodded, and the two of them dove into the shadows of Arkham Asylum. The girl, Starfire, rather understandably, turned her attention on the giant form of the Attack Titan. She did not notice the Eldians make their escape.
